Its already been stated by the dev that the forge is the only way to get them. However, they throw around so many half truths (like this thread, and the one about no DR on the forge), anything they say can be taken with a grain of salt at this point.
What “half truths” are you talking about? Everything I have said here and about DR in the Mystic Forge is 100% true to my knowledge, and I happen to know a lot about these things.
As a quick note, the higher the level and rarity of the things you are throwing into the forge, the better your chances of getting a Legendary Precursor.
- Fixed recipes for the Mystic Artifact, Mystic Barricade, and Mystic Trident.
In the 9/25 build
Those recipes are very specific to the dropped item. Cobbling one together using transmutation stones and a sigil, isn’t going to work.
We’ve seen players discussing the topic of crafting legendary precursor weapons and claiming that we’ve made changes to make this more difficult. We’d like to be clear that we did not make any across the board changes to reduce the drop rate, nor was it our intention to significantly increase the difficulty in acquiring these precursor weapons.
We did fix a few bugged recipes that were rewarding Legendary precursors more often than they should have been. These recipes were mostly using Rares in the level 70-75 range and mostly affected the precursors for the greatswords and the dagger. This has had some effect on the drop rate when using lower level rares to attempt to get a precursor but it was never intended for that to be the best way of acquiring these weapons. The recipes for throwing in level 80 exotics have not changed at all.
We have been watching the prices climbing on Legendary precursors and share your concerns about some of them becoming too expensive. We will continue to monitor the situation and will make any adjustments we feel are necessary.
We did not make any changes to the salvage rate of ectos. You just had a string of bad luck.
Looks like our support team as put out an explanation for the Deadly Blooms issue here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/10uk5u/a_big_thank_you_to_anet_support_for_awarding_me/c6h9cee
It was just a case of the reward taking longer to appear. So yeah, support really does not have the ability to place items into players inventories. Sorry for the confusion!
After reading this post and other post’s about the mystic kitten forge if kittening, I have come up with the worst possible scenario imho.
Your going for eternity, the forge has been super nice to you so far (between 50-100 tries for dawn and dusk). You get all your mystic clover’s at about 40% success rate. You also manage to get both sunrise and twilight made.
Now the kicker you find out the 2 other item’s you need, put all 4 item’s into the mystic kitten forge of kittening and get nothing.
There have been report’s of people not getting anything back from the mystic forge, so why can’t it happen when crafting a legendary?Again this is the absolute worst scenario happening with the mystic forge, great idea very bad implementation.
My 2 cent’s.
I’ll tell you why it can’t happen. Because the issue is in certain instances in the recipe database that deal with chucking random items in. None of the specific recipes have this issue. ESPECIALLY not the Legendaries.

Interesting point about the damage types. I’ll look into it.
Ratto, I’ve said it many times before and I’ll keep saying it, do not trust those 3D previews. They really really do not do the weapons justice and they are really bad at communicating effects.
It’s not awesome, that’s for sure! :P
I’m looking into this. Thanks for the reports, guys!
No! We do care! I promise!!
I’m working on getting in fixes for the few instances were the system allows for this, but unfortunately, the fix is going to take some time. It’s not an easy one.
I’ve seen some mentions that there are Diminishing Returns on the Mystic Forge and wanted to clear up that this is not true. I have confirmed it with Izzy and we felt it important to note.
I’ll take a look, thanks for the report!
Having strong coin sinks in the game is very important to the overall health of the economy. This is a great reason why we don’t make everything available for both coin and karma, particularly when it comes to crafting materials.
Here are some ways that I disagree with you on karma not being useful:
- There are stat combos that are only available for karma.
- There are many armor and weapon skins that are only available for karma. Some pretty sweet ones too.
- Rare and Exotic recipes for all crafting disciplines that aren’t Chef, require karma to learn.
- There are many fun and interesting bundles (environmental weapons) that are only available for karma.
- Stated aqua breathers are currently only available for karma (though I could see this potentially changing in the future).
Sure Karma rewards could be expanded, and I am sure they will be as the game grows, but they aren’t useless for anyone who is 80, doesn’t want a legendary, or isn’t a chef. Just remember, the game maybe be officially released, but it is NOT done growing. We are continuously adding, fixing, and improving!
Thanks for the feedback!

“No shiny or glowy thing to it”?? Clearly, you haven’t seen it. Maybe you are familiar with the Fiery Dragon Sword from the Hall of Monuments? Jormag’s Breath is an icy version
I disagree kKagari. We never had an item generation tool in GW1 because we never wanted it to be abused, hacked into or anything else to otherwise compromise the GW1 economy. That’s not lying or not being prepared. That was being cautious. Of course, GW2 is a different game with different needs. I’m just, frankly, not fully up to date on what tools support has and what it doesn’t. I was told that we have no way to give players items based on them being caught by a bugged Mystic Forge recipe. Perhaps, I shouldn’t have said anything at all since I clearly don’t have all the facts, but I wanted to at least give some response to the thread. I’ll try not to make the same mistake again.
Yes, I am sure. I personally made the change that went into that patch and it was just for the Weaponsmith vendor who was mistakenly selling tools for karma. I was also personally in the rewards meetings for every map, in which we planned which Heart vendors would get which gathering tool. Granted, I wasn’t the one who hooked them all up, but I just did a quick check on the database and yes, they are still there.
Well, color me surprised! I must be behind the times. I’m not on the rapid response team, so if they got new tech, I wasn’t around to hear about it. Even still, I have inquired in the past about doing something for people who were given the wrong item from the Mystic Forge and was told that we had no way of getting the correct item to them. Maybe that has changed, I don’t know. You could put in a support ticket to find out.
You are missing one and also, clams are not a farm material
When they say that we have no tools to give players individual items, they really mean it. It’s not just an excuse. We currently have no method of generating items on Live. In this case, even if we were able to do something like mail you the correct item if you mail us the incorrect item, there would be no way to know if you got that item from the intended recipe or from the bugged one. It’s not a great answer, I know, but all we can do is fix these bugs as soon as possible. In this case, I fixed the recipe as soon as I knew about it and pushed the fix into our Live build queue. I am very sorry that this bug fell through a crack and went Live, but it’s a really huge game.
In general, I prefer to avoid putting any dates on future updates/fixes. Things change all the time in development, it’s just part of how this whole “making games” thing works. It can be a real bummer for players to hear a date, get excited about that date, and then have it changed on them. I don’t want to give you guys a date because my years of experience as a developer means that I know that things can change unexpectedly, but I will say that the fix for the recipe is on our Dev server, has been verified by our QA testers and is currently in staging for a future Live build. My hope is that it will be included in our next Live build, but I recommend you watch for an update note on it.
Also, Giant Eyes are used in multiple recipes. Including ones that aren’t bugged
There are some recipes that use a Gift for a named Exotic weapon. Jormag’s Breath is not one of them.
There are Heart vendors in every map that sell gathering tools for karma.
As I have said before, do not trust the 3D previews from that database. I just took a look, and the preview for Azureflame is definitely not accurate.
It is not a drop.
You need to use the venom sacs to make an insignia and that is what you use to discover with. If an item does not appear in the discovery pane, that means there aren’t any recipes you can still discover using that item.
When it comes to specific weapon recipes, it is very specific. We took what we felt were the coolest skins and built a specific weapon with a name and stat combo and then built recipes for them. If you love the skin but not the stat combo, you’ll need to transmute a different stat combo onto it.
Congrats on your Sunrise!!!!
You caught me at a good time! I don’t have a lot of time to spend on the forums, my job is development behind the scenes, but I try to make sure to check them every morning when I first get into the office.
Looks like some of the text descriptions on Miyani’s recipes are a smidge out of date. I’ll get a fix in the queue, but it is going to take a little while to be published Live, so I will tell you this:
Liquid Flame is also used in the creation of the Legendary Rodgort.
Thanks for the report!!
Personally, The Bifrost might be my favorite Legendary. I wants one soooo bad. The model itself, the rainbow footsteps, rainbow trail and the swoosh rainbow that appears over your character when you stand still… super rad and imo totally worth it. Sometimes I go on our Dev client just so I can run around with one, but of course it will never be the same, I just have to have it on Live. I’m sure it will take me much longer to get, though.
*psst, Incinerator is also a favorite.
I guess not EVERY recipe has been tested…
Woot! Congrats on your Bifrost!!! I am very jealous.
“Everyone” is making a lot of assumptions about Legendaries. Assumptions based on pure conjecture. “Everyone” is not always correct :P
It basically looks like a large icicle. No particle effects or glowing.
I got a bug in on this yesterday and I’m working on getting a fix into the queue. Thanks for the report!
So I dug through all the recipes that Orichalcum Ingots are referenced by and the recipes for bolt conversions and I’m not seeing how this is possible. I want to track down the issue, since what you describe isn’t awesome. Could you give me some more details so I can track this down? What EXACTLY did you put into the forge to get those ingots?
Most of the recipes are actually correct. It looks to be only the ones made by Weaponsmiths that are the problem. We didn’t stealth fix anything. It’s just partially bugged, not fully bugged.
Looks like the recipes for Berserker and Valkyrie are swapped. I submitted a bug and I’ll work on getting a fix into the queue. Thanks for the report!
Don’t always believe what you see in those 3D previews. They do not do justice to the models or their effects.
When drawn, that blade bursts into flames. It is based on the Fiery Gladius from GW1, if you are familiar with it.
Since it is an item we are talking about, once it is consumed (read: learned), it no longer exists.
Are you talking about Flamebelcher? If so, it does not have particle effects. I couldn’t find the word “Flamebringer” in the weapons folder of our database.
We have a fix for this coming!
We have a fix for this slated to go into the next build.
Obsidian Shards and dungeon tokens are both Account Bound now. (We are fixing the issue with existing items not being converted to Account Bound)
We have a fix coming that will convert the existing items to be Account Bound. I believe it is scheduled for the next build.
Agreed. They should be account bound. I also noticed this and felt the same way. I don’t know WHEN we can get a fix in for this, but I’ll try to get it into the queue.
Superior Rune of the Eagle is not a craftable Rune. I’m looking at it in code right now and there are no recipes attached to it, it comes from Exotic loot drops.
We can’t have any recipes that are karma/coin only due to the ease in earning karma and coin. The change with butter (and the other ingredients that were moved off karma) were the fewest amount of items needed to be moved to address the recipes that were an issue. The alternative to butter was both flour and sugar. I will not move butter back to karma, but I can look at other potential solutions to the surplus.
Thanks for the feedback all! I’ll discuss things with Izzy and see if any action is needed. As a note, I did not put any butter or chocolate in the bags dropped from Undead. It just felt too icky.
