Rejected:
• No Lumber Cores or Pruning Shears. We count these as trophies used for guild hall decorations which I already mentioned we opted to not include.
• No Golden Fractal Relic + Integrated Fractal Matrix. I discussed these with the Fractals team extensively throughout the process and they opted to investigate other solutions.
• No Writs and Tomes. I do not want to put in consumables of this nature.
• No Strategic Defense Map of the Mists. Used in very few things at a low cost.
• No Toys and Tonics. These are so outside of any of our qualifications for going into storage that I can’t believe I am having to explain why they aren’t going in.
• No Essence of Time. It is a trophy used in two things, one of them being a decoration.

Things to think about a bit more:
• Miyani Items. A lot of folks have rightly pointed out that all of Miyani’s items should go into storage. I haven’t made a final determination on this yet, but it’s likely that we will cut at least some of these from the list.
• Indigo Mushrooms + Mushroom Milk. I’m really on the fence about this one. I had wanted to allow them to keep dropping because they do make foods that can continue to be used, but I don’t particularly want to include them in storage because of how you start acquiring them. I’ll think about it more though.
• Badges of Tribute. We said no to these largely because of how you get them and use them. They are bought from a vendor and can be immediately consumed by crafting low-ish cost items with them. I will check in with the WvW team to see if they disagree with that sentiment.
• Mystic Runestone. If I am going to put in Icy Runestone, I should probably put in this one as well.
• Marks, Talismans, Seals, Medallions, and Crests. I have almost zero desire to put all 25 into storage, but I will rethink Crests specifically because of their inclusion in Amalgamated Gemstone crafting.
• Ascended crafting materials that make Grandmaster Marks. This is going to be a tough one. There are a lot of items here. I’ll consult with the PvP team and my fellow rewards folks.

> you can’t really remove any once they have been added

Then please, please, please don’t add yet other legendary crafting components for the new legendaries to the storage (ala Shard of Friendship and alike). Those are against everything I read here. They are only used for one specific thing, which I daresay most players will never do anyway, and even if they do, they do it usually only once and are then done with it.

Every time I see those empty material slots it reminds me that there are tons of other things that would be more useful in there instead. I get that they cannot be remove without a major overhaul of the whole system, and that’s not going to happen. But please: don’t add new ones with each new legendary!

We have already headed down the road of including them, we aren’t going to stop now.

Yes these are niche items, used for one thing. The reason why I still think they are valid to go into storage, is because they are part of long tail rewards where you might have a stack of them sitting around for a long time before using them. There are a few other things like this that we have chosen to include.

Similar to mystic clovers?

Not exactly because clovers are used in all legendary weapons, but sort of.

Can you add Black Lion Salvage Kits to the storage? I know the tech exists, you used to be able to put PvP Salvage Kits into storage if they hadn’t been used yet.

See notes:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Salvage_Kit

“Used to” being the operative words here. There are reasons you can’t anymore and I believe one of them has to do with exploitability.

We used to have (and I still have several) miniatures in Material Storage. Thus, if those slots can never be (truly) removed, how about one for Queen Jennah and maybe Risen Priest of Balthazar (I don’t think many use the recipe for Obsidian Shards with the value of Mystic Coins)?

How about asking whomever would be in charge of item IDs to stack (or move to storage) the L20 (at least) scrolls?

Again, thanks for all your hard work.

To both your questions: that’s not how this works on the back end. I can’t use old mini storage or move a couple of minis out of it. There isn’t anyone “in charge of item IDs” and there is no ability to make two different item IDs stack.

My concern with all of this is as you have said in the past, the space available is limited and you can’t really remove any once they have been added. So while you may be able to fit all these new mats in for now, when the expansion pack hits and inevitably many new crafting mats are added, will they all be able to fit? How about 2-3 expansions down the line? Has there been consideration for the long term implications of this system?

Part of this project for me was determining a total budget and breaking it down into chunks for future use in addition to this phase of additions. So, I budgeted about 100 items to add now with separate budgets for all future projects. Now, I am clearly over budget here but it isn’t looking like the expansion will use their full budget and it is unlikely that Season 4 will use its entire budget as well, so I am borrowing a bit. Regardless, I believe that we have enough space to be able to add these kinds of materials to material storage as we release them moving forward.

I’d also like to suggest Aetherkey pieces.
I know many will say that they belong on a keyring, but:

  1. They are not keys, just pieces, and
  2. People have been wanting a keyring for a while now, it still hasn’t happened, and removing them from mat storage in case a keyring is added doesn’t sound too hard.

Key ring or equivalent is coming soon. Pieces are like sand, just use them and make the keys. Opening Aether chests isn’t worth it nowadays anyway

WHOA WHOA WHOOOOOOA there. A key ring is NOT “coming soon”, please manage your expectations. I have indicated that I would prefer to address keys through a key ring, however, I have NOT found anyone to do that work and it can’t be me personally. Considering that, a key ring is currently in indefinite limbo until I can find someone willing to take it on as a side project.

As far as Marks to Crests, those really need a spot as there are a ton of those.
Mark (level 20)
Talisman (level 35)
Seal (level 50)
Medallion (level 65)
Crest (level 80)

There are 5 of each type. That’s 25 total.

You probably don’t realize it but you just made an excellent case for them to NOT go into storage. That said, I will consider the level 80 Crests since they go into Amalgamated Gemstones, but I have almost zero desire to put all 25 into storage.

12. Experience data loss, resetting progress back to step 7, thus undoing all the hard parts I just did
13. Experience crushing demoralization and wallow in sadness for days while numerous people try to help recover work. This is why you should never save your docs locally and nowhere else.
14. Acceptance of lost data and thorough avoidance of redoing work while advancing through stages of grief

Data loss sucks, and I don’t know your infosec/IA plan, but do you guys not do nightly offsite backups or was there a backup failure? O_O I mean, I can see full revolt in the art department if a server failed and several days of paintings were lost in the mist. They’d come for your CIO armed with styluses and cintiqs, thirsty for blood, demanding revisions to your BC/DRP.

The problem was that I did not check it into our file share or save it on the network. It was ONLY on my local machine. LIFE LESSON LEARNED.

The plan adds way more than I expected!

It also adds more sass than I anticipated. Hee. Thanks, Linsey!

I’ve got sass in spades.

i would also love to see infinite stacking, instead of the default of 250

No. A thousand times to the ends of eternity, no.

Just out of curiosity though, if something can’t be deposited and isn’t stackable (like salvage kits, mining tools or ascended rings of the same type), how hard is it to make them stackable?

Very VERY hard. Like, never going to happen, hard.

Is there any possibility of a few, perhaps a dozen, uncategorized storage slots? That would take a stack (or expanded stack) of whatever was put into them first. When the stack of items was removed, it would be available for a stack of other stuff. This would be useful for holding those items that we collect incessantly with no clear goal in mind (Blade Shards). It would also allow each player to customize their bank to best serve their needs.

Nope! That’s what regular bank tabs are for.

I’ve got a bunch of replies saved up, so I am going to blast through a bunch of them now and circle back when I have time for a few topics I still want to touch on.

• No Instant Repair Canisters, Bank Access Express, Trading Post Express, Merchant Express, Revive Orb. Please just use these.

How about you add a check and if the account has , say a permanent Bank Access or other permanent, it quits dropping them and drops something useful or make them so you can sell them for something instead of just flushing them to make room.

Interesting. I don’t know if this is a desirable change on our end, but I will talk to some folks about something like this. We recently got some tech that MIGHT make it TECHNICALLY possible, so I can at least make a promise that I will poke the Commerce team about the idea. No promises beyond that.

Consider removing Unidentified Fossilized Insect and have someone make it so its vendor equivalent (3x Sandy Bag of Gear) drops instead once the Ambrite weapons collection is completed. Would probably make Dry Top-dedicated guilds even happier.

A replace on the drop table might be possible because of that previously mentioned tech, but I don’t know if it is in scope for me to make such a change.

15. Put on big girl pants and redo steps 7-11

I question the need for pants for this step. Pants are never necessary.

I normally agree thoroughly, however, in a professional environment not wearing any kind of bottom coverings is frowned upon.

Thanks for your work! May I also suggest the Ascended crafting materials you need for the Grandmaster Marks? Those are:
Carbonized Mithrillium Ingot
Square of Vabbian Silk
Blended Leather Sheet
Empowered Mithril Ingot
Empowered Cured Thick Leather Square
Bolt of Empowered Silk
Composite Wood Board
Weaponized Elder Wood Plank
Weaponized Cured Thick Leather Square
Weaponized Mithril Ingot

Ah ha! Now THIS. THIS is a suggestion. These did not exist when the project came up and were thus not even considered. I’m not going to make a promise right now that I will include them as I have not done my investigation, but I will promise to thoughtfully consider them and discuss it with the PvP team.

Lindsey, have you considered adding some more regular cooking materials? Things like Bottle of Rice Wine and Stein of Hearty Ale, that are used in recipes, but cannot be stored in the material storage.

I did but decided the use case wasn’t quite robust enough to include.

If anything, I am looking for cuts to this list, not adds.

Why should we suggest cuts??

Oh, I wasn’t necessarily asking for cut suggestions. Just indicating that I am not super interested in adding to the list, far more interested in removing. To be perfectly honest, I did not need to include the community in this project at all. I could have come up with this list on my own by just talking to folks internally. I just think it is more fun and inclusive doing it with community input and buy-in, so I took the opportunity to do that instead. It probably would have been easier for me to do it all internally.

Spiritwood Dowel

Deldrimor Steel Plated Dowel

What’s the difference between these?

Ha! Excellent catch, they are indeed the same. I had caught that before posting, fixed it on my spreadsheet but missed it on my post draft. Fixed!

Love this list and would applaud if even half of these items made the final version.

As far as things to cut, I would question the need for space for stuff you buy from Miyani (eldritch scroll, philosopher stones, etc). Given that those items are only used in the mystic forge, having them purchasable right next to the forge makes them easy enough to get to as is.

Just my input though. Maybe someone had a good reason for including them.

They were very popular suggestions and the way I figure it is that you can often be left with extras or be holding on to them for a long time before use. Those are the lowest priority items and I would cut them first if I find myself in an absolute NEED to cut anything. Right now, I am OK with shipping this list as is.

Here are some notes on how we chose what:
• No “components” has been my go to up til now but you will notice there are a bunch of things here that might be called “component”. The ways I softened but did not eliminate this rule is two fold: 1) allow a second tier of refinement like dowels and patches which are used cross discipline, 2) allow a number of scribing and cooking components that feel very core to the disciple and are used over and over throughout but did not have OTHER components in their ingredients which are also being added to storage (eg no herbed stocks because base stocks go in).
• No Inscriptions and Insignias. I just felt that there were too many and there were more important things that crafters were more likely to be holding on to for longer.
• No sigils and runes. I believe there are WAY better solutions to this problem.
• No legendary gifts. Too many. Too niche.
• No Piles of Silky Sand. Just consume them, geez.
• No SAB Baubles and Bubble Baubles. I spoke with the SAB designers and this is a technical limitation with how that stuff all works in SAB.
• No WvW Blueprints. I spoke with the WvW designers and they felt that this would create a bad user experience for players who legit use blueprints.
• No Black Lion stuff. There is a combination of technical issues and a lack of desire for those to work that way.
• No Boosters, Tonics, Foods (general food consumables not the core cooking ingredients), utility buff, and potions. Just no. Seriously. There are way too many and there is a whole host of reasons why you just get a no.
• No Instant Repair Canisters, Bank Access Express, Trading Post Express, Merchant Express, Revive Orb. Please just use these.

EDIT: This was partially cut off.

• No Luck. Just no.
• No trophy items that make specific decorations etc for the guild hall. Too many. Too niche.
• No keys. There are better solutions for keys that we have not yet had time to pursue and I want to leave room for us to do those things instead.

EDIT2:

Reminder: Once an item has been added to Material Storage, it can never be removed or moved to a different category. However, I did get a small piece of tech to allow me to re-organize within each bucket and I’ll be doing some re-ordering work as part of this update.

Ok folks, here is where we are at with this material storage side project that I originally outlined here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/What-s-Missing-from-Material-Storage/first

1. Determine need for side project
2. Work with programming to investigate the backend and define limitations
3. Ask for suggestions from playerbase <- LAST TIME WE TALKED
4. Collate suggestions from all sources
5. Refine data to determine popularity of suggestions
6. Refine list to remove suggestions that are impossibilities for whatever reason
7. Research every suggestion to fully understand their use cases
8. Meet with experts to better understand the needs of their area of the game (WvW, Fractals, Scribes, SAB)
9. Refine data list to remove suggestions that are unfavorable for whatever reason
10. Discuss and plan alternative solutions to suggestions that are unfavorable but could be addressed in another way
11. Assign Materials to specific material storage collections
15. Put on big girl pants and redo steps 7-11
16. Document proposed changes
17. Present final list to design team for last minute objections and additions
18. Present final list to playerbase for last minute discussion and final appeals <- WE ARE HERE
19. Adjust design as needed.
20. DO THE WORK <- the easy part

More than I should do from a pure numbers standpoint, so if you are going to try making a case for adding anything else to this fairly exhaustive list than you should know it will be an uphill climb. I’ll hear you out, but know I will be a hard sell. If anything, I am looking for cuts to this list, not adds. We’ve spent a ton of time thinking this through. I’ll post some notes on those choices in a reply post since the forums are telling me this is too long.

I’ll personally be paying attention to discussion here and on The Inevitable Reddit Thread™ for the next week. I’ll be finalizing the list in the following week and finding the time to DO THE WORK after that. When it comes to timeline, I normally say “no promises!” but in this case, I promise that I refuse to let this go a whole year since my original post without shipping.

Ok folks, this has been a very productive conversation and I would like to thank you all for participating! Our EU folks have sent me the top list for EU players and I have pulled down all the suggestions in this thread as of right now. I still need to pour through the Reddit thread suggestions as well, but my spread sheet is already up around 3k lines (includes duplicate suggestions) just from this thread and it is clear that there is a large consensus on many items. Since I am primarily leading the Living World teams, which is a fast paced and high energy project, with this as a side project it’s going to take me at least a couple weeks to fully sort through all the suggestions and come up with a plan. As of this moment, consider this thread closed and once I have completed my work, I’ll kick off a new thread with the results.

It would be extremely hard, if not impossible to make those things stack.

Unrelated to the primary thrust of this topic, but couldn’t you add a Mystic Forge recipe to combine 4 25-use BL kits into 1 100-use BL kit, and then 2 100-use BL kits with 2 25-use BL kits to get a 250-use BL kit? That would be pretty legendary if so, because I currently have ~30 BL kits and they’re way too valuable to just waste.

yeah if i could replace my 25-use kits with 10x less 250-use kits that would be pretty swell

I’m happy to poke the Commerce Team about adding some kind of conversion to allow folks to condense multiple 25 use BL salvage kits into one larger kit. I only promise to poke, I can’t promise they will do it

Can you all just do some data analytics and view what’s in player’s bank slots / guild banks and then remove the already in storage inventory / any weapons/armor/chests?

Example, if Tattered Bat Wings shows up in 20% of bank storage (and it’s used in a recipe), wouldn’t that be a solid flag?

I am not coming to the community for suggestions because I don’t know how to build a proper list myself. I am doing it because I thought it would be a great opportunity for community engagement and a win all around. You folks get to be heard and included in this project that is very much a Quality of Life issue and I get to follow through to make it happen, which gives me warm fuzzies.

I agree about blade shards, chak eggs, mysitic forge stones, etc. I also suggest resonating slivers.

I undertsand why you don’t want to put crafted things in. Would it be hard to at least make more things stackable in the bank, like the various salvage kits, harvesting tools, etc.?

Every month I end up getting quite a few BL salvage kits. It’s great to get them for free, but it would be even better if they stacked.

It would be extremely hard, if not impossible to make those things stack.

Hey, just a quick thought and a little bit off topic, what about all the level 80 food and potion buffs. Might be easy to just add them to the material deposit so it’s easy to make alot of them just to deposit for other characters to use.

Definitely not. There are way too many of them and I don’t think Material Storage is an appropriate place to store that stuff.

Please remember that this is “Material Storage”. Not “Stuff I Don’t Want To Spend Bank Slots On Storage”. Items that are not used in crafting or mystic forge recipes are VERY unlikely to be chosen. Sigils, Runes, Tomes of Knowledge, Boosters, etc are all not going to be chosen to add.

EDIT: That said, I am still very seriously considering things like Chak Eggs, Blood Rubies, and Petrified Wood.

Alright folks, here we go. I have said that we would look into the material storage system to determine if we could reduce the current restrictions on what is allowed to be deposited there. We have completed that investigation and are ready to talk about what all of you wish could be deposited into storage that currently cannot be. So, please, post your suggestions in our official forums—offered in English, French, German, and Spanish—or post in the inevitable Reddit thread that links back to this post. The Comms team and I will be monitoring those places for your suggestions and gathering your feedback. In about a week or so we will pool those suggestions in order to weigh their validity, and if there are any popular suggestions that are not desirable or possible, I will follow up to explain why. If I find that the number of valid suggestions exceeds the quantity we reasonably can add, we might have to talk about priorities. But for now, let’s pretend that the sky is the limit for the purposes of this discussion.

Here are some guidelines, to head off any paths that will not be fruitful for you:
• No Crafted Components. There are simply too many of them and I categorically refuse to add them all. I will not budge on this. There might be some one-offs I am willing to consider, but if your suggestion is that every single Boot Sole, Soup Stock, Jewelry Setting, and Weapon Haft should go in, you have become Sisyphus and that boulder is never making it to the top of the hill. Give up now.
• No Keys. I totally understand how much folks want this (my shared inventory slots are largely taken up by keys, so I get it!) but putting keys into material storage is not a viable way for you to get a key ring. Sorry.
• No pure Salvageables. I’m looking at you, Lumps of Raw Ambrite. If an item’s only use case is to salvage it into another item that can be put into material storage, then just salvage those items if you want them out of your inventory.

And now, commence with the suggestions!

I’m talking about the recipes to make the items. Gift of Souls, Gift of the Moon, and Gift of Spiders.

In game, players are saying to make the recipes it takes 100, not 10.

I am looking at Recipe: Gift of Souls, Recipe: Gift of the Moon, Recipe: Gift of Spiders, Gift of Souls, Gift of the Moon, and Gift of Spiders. Both the items and the crafting/mystic forge recipes themselves. No where does it say it takes 100 instead of 10. Players talking in game are incorrect based on the bad information from the update notes.

Someone makes a typo, we bring it up. A forum mod/dev reads it and thinks ‘this can’t be right…’ and emails the appropriate people to confirm this is a typo. They take a while to email back because busy with other stuff/out of office/forgot to have outlook open, then a day later the reply comes through.

That’s right! In this case, the issue of “players think this is too expensive” was raised to the coordinator of the team that worked on this update. He then raised that issue to me, the point of contact for all rewards. I said “Holy monkey face, that’s not what it was when I reviewed that stuff! Poop! What happened!? We gotta fix that asap!” and started an email thread about how to fix it, who should fix it, when we could get it into a hotfix, if we should kill switch the recipe to prevent anyone from doing it before we fix it, and discussions about pulling data in case we needed to do a refund for any poor souls who might have already done it. Then we asked the designer on that team to get in the fix and start working it through the approval process to hotfix it. It was at that point when the designer said “but it is already at 10 on Dev, not 100”. We verified that was the case in the Live code and I immediately hopped on here to post that it was a simple update notes typo while the community team worked to update the update notes. I think a days turn around is actually pretty good and I am very pleased that it was not a problem in the code, but rather a simple update notes typo.

Everything is a process. We work really hard to listen to our playerbase and be responsive to their needs. Time is always a mitigating factor and even information takes time to move from one place to another.

And just to add a little fyi here, we didn’t get a patch in game for this, and asked around in game, and it is still 100k to make, not 10k.

No patch needed. It was never 100k. I am looking at the Live code as I type this and it is most definitely not 100k.

What items say that in game? I’m poking at the items in code and I’m not seeing it. If you could point me in the right direction, I can look into getting that fixed as well.

There is a ton of feedback to filter through and raise to the appropriate people, especially after a build, so it just takes a little time. Responding to that feedback also takes time since we have a lot of work previously scheduled on other upcoming builds that is in progress throughout any given day, so it’s not like people are just sitting around waiting for things to do.

The good news is that the recipe never costed that much, no changes to the game were required.

Could we please get an official response if this is an intended nerf or an overlooked mistake?

It is neither. It just takes time to build these items and there is a huge amount of stuff on our list of things to do. We aren’t done adding stat combos. We will continue to add them as we have time to do so. With this batch, we wanted to even out the spread of primary stats and we already had a lot of stats with Power or Condition Damage as primary (more than any other, in fact), but I’ll be sure to get Valkyrie and Carrion into the next batch.

Hey guys! Very sorry about this. Looks like the Shortbow had been using the Longbow model and I fixed that when I hooked up their new icons to use the correct model file, not realizing that the Shortbow was so different looking from the Longbow (usually the shortbow versions are just a little shorter than the longbow). You are absolutely correct to be bummed out, the Longbow has a lot of majesty that the Shortbow does not. So we are going to adjust the Shortbow model to look a lot more like the Longbow. Very very sorry about this! It was certainly not my intention to nerf your awesome bows. We are working on this fix as I type. It might be too late to get it into our next bug fixing build (today or tomorrow) but it will definitely get into our February build at the latest. Again, so very sorry!

We already have a really good and comprehensive list of what weapons need icons that we are working off of, so you guys don’t need to report weapons without icons. I haven’t had the time to make that same list for armors or all the consumables and trinkets. It takes days to dig through all the files and cross reference everything to make lists like that, but I’ve already done it for weapons. I’ll do armors next when I find the time in between my assigned tasks. I would say that the top priority in reports would be things like the Ash Legion Spy Kit and Whispers Spy Kit. Those are the kinds of things that slip through the cracks. Weapons and armors don’t really slip through per se, there are just so many of them to get through that it’s going to take a long time before all of them have icons that match their models.

Our Goddess of Icons, Maryeli, is going to be keeping an eye on this thread as well, so by all means, heap on the praise. She is amazing and she totally deserves it!

omg, any chance I can get this post noticed by Linsey?

Can you please make the sPvP locker come in columns of 12? Armor sets come in a set of 6 pieces, and having 10 columns just makes the arrangment all out of whack. It would be much, much, much, much more easier to track if it were in columns of 12 (two sets per row).

That would be a major UI change. I don’t think that is something we can do. Sorry. There might be changes in the order that could help make it more manageable, I’ll look into if that is something we can do.

Linsey, I understand GW2 is very large and the sheer volume of items in it that sometimes things here and there can be misplaced/misaligned, whatever word you want to use for the mix-up of icons; but don’t you think the people that were hired for this should have got it right the first time around? While icons are not specifically high on the to-do list, how can they manage to only get 5 of 6 armor pieces correct or to forget a whole set of weapons? I understand the odd one here and there but there has been a lot of muck-ups and they should be fixed asap, not waiting until there is a new monthly patch.

This was not a case of us mucking things up and not getting it right the first time. There are literally tens of thousands of items in the game. We simply could not generate unique art for all those items in time for ship and did not feel that not having unique icons for all the items in the game warranted pushing back our release date. Each icon is hand painted by one of our concept artists and they take pride in their work, which is why we are making an extra effort, in addition to all our other duties, to fill in the holes that we know are there. That takes time. It’s not like we are just waiting to do it, we are generating new icons every day and we push them Live in the soonest patch we can.

Hooray this thread! Yes, we are wanting to address as many icon issues as we can, but it’s such a huge game that it can be hard for us to find all the anomalies ourselves. We have a pretty good handle on what weapons don’t have unique icons that match its model and we are slowly working our way through that list. We’ve been updating various weapon icons in pretty much every patch.

Things that are particularly helpful:

  • Icons for Karma Accessories or Consumables that make no sense for what it is.
  • Weapon icons that are wrong when you KNOW there is a correct icon out there, it just hasn’t been matched up correctly.
  • Armor icons that don’t match their model. Particularly if the icon looks like it belongs to a different weight class.
  • Anything else that doesn’t make sense :p

Keep this stuff coming, we will be watching this thread for sure!

Not entirely accurate Lindsey, a lot of recipe items were soulbound just after release, leaving me stuck with a couple of jeweller and artificer recipes on a character that did not have those professions.

It’s not really a reason not to have it in the Mystic Forge. It’s more the reason why we never needed to ask the question “should we have DR in the Mystic Forge or not”.

Good point. But that still means there could be a glitch that shouldn’t be there. Unfortunately this is really bad time to buy large scales so I’ll have to wait before I can record my findings on… a large scale.

But like I said, we looked into it and there is no bug. The systems are so far removed from the DR code, it’s not remotely possible that they are touching in any way that could allow for DR in Salvaging or the Mystic Forge.

I want you guys to think about this a bit. Seriously. Why would we ever want to systematically discourage you from chucking things into the Forge or salvaging them as often or as fast as you want to? It is SO SO SO (I can’t stress this enough) important for items to be leaving the economy at a healthy ratio to the items being created and entering the economy, otherwise, there would be no economy. Everything would pile up and pile up until everything was worth nothing because the supply would be endlessly higher than the demand.

Bottom line, DR systems exist to prevent players from generating too much currency and destroying the economy. Why would we have DR on the things that balance and fix the economy?

There a simple answer to that last question: to limit income of new items/resources to players via Mystic forge. By your own logic: less items – healthier the economnomy is.

I suppose that is a fair enough point. Though then I would ask if that works when it also has the side effect of causing people to stop using it altogether.

Anyway, my personal logic for why DR in Salvaging and the Mystic Forge isn’t the point. The point is that it just plain is not there. Intentional or not. It does not exist.

I just walked over to the programmer who implemented the DR system to ask if there is ANY way that there is some hidden bug that could be causing DR in Salvaging or the Mystic Forge. We discussed the way the system works and I am here to assure you all, that this is not possible. There is no hidden bug. The DR system does not come anywhere close to the Mystic Forge or Salvaging systems AND there certain triggers that are required for the DR system to kick in which simply can’t possibly be set by the Mystic Forge or Salvaging.

If we had DR in Salvaging or the Mystic Forge, we would tell you, just like we told you about the DR in other areas of the game. But for the sake of argument, let’s assume that you just don’t remotely trust what we say, and let’s look at this from another angle.
