REAPER WvW Frontliner Build

in Necromancer

Posted by: LionChain.7694

LionChain.7694

Here’s my Reaper WvW Frontliner build (work-in-progress):

TRAITS:

Reaper: Augury of Death (adept), Soul Eater (master), Blighter’s Boon (grandmaster)

Soul Reaping: Soul Marks (adept), Vital Persistence (master), Death Perception (grandmaster)

Curses: Chilling Darkness (adept), Master of Corruption (master), Weakening Shroud (grandmaster)

SKILLS:

Heal: Consume Conditions

US 1: “Nothing can save you!”

US 2: “Suffer!”

US 3: Well of Power

Elite: Plague

WEAPONS: Greatsword/Staff

RUNES: Superior Rune of the Traveler

SIGILS: Superior Sigil of Strength and Hydromancy on Greatsword/Strength and Energy on Staff

BUFFS: Lemongrass poultry soup, Potent Superior Sharpening Stone

GEAR: TBA, but you’ll probably want a mix of Soldier’s Berserker’s, Valkyrie’s and Knight’s (for trinkets, Berserker’s + Valkeryie’s and maybe some Captain’s)….as long as you’re maintaining that 3k armor and above 20k health…and you’ll still have high power and high crit chance/damage

NOTES (not organized): I know that the instinct with a shout reaper is to use Trooper runes, or to use Hoelbrak or Melandru runes because it’s a frontliner. However, I chose to use Traveler runes for the movement speed because otherwise, you’ll be slow as hell if you use those other rune sets.

Yes, you could substitute the staff for axe/warhorn or dagger/warhorn (although axe would probably be better than dagger because of the axe 3 skill), and substitute Well of Power for Spectral Walk, and/or you could rely on your zerg for stacking swiftness.

HOWEVER, this strategy is going to be a pain in the kitten for when you have to run back to your zerg for any number of reasons and you’re slow as a turtle. Also, with using Spectral Walk and Axe/Warhorn, you’ll be able to maintain swiftness, sure, but having Well of Power and a staff equipped will be so much more useful to your zerg during fights (WoP being like the necro version of Purging Flames and your staff providing so many useful marks that give regen, put poison/chill on foes, transfers conditions, fear people, which will then chill them and damage them).

I chose Consume Conditions for the heal, because that’s still going to be the best necro/reaper heal as it clears all conditions off of you and heals you for each condition you consume. I chose Plague, because even though that elite shout looks really cool, Plague is going to be one of your main forms of stability along with Shroud 3 (Plague is also going to allow you to chill enemies every time you blind/poison them with Plague 2 skill, which in turn will damage them).

Plague is going to be your most useful choice for an elite skill as a frontliner Reaper because it can be used in so many ways: to escape, to push in with your tag and other frontliners (you’ll want to stay right on or close to the tag…your blind/chill will not only prevent enemy frontliners from escaping you and your tag, but you will also be able to protect your tag from enemy frontliners with your 20-second constant blind), to use as a safe stomp, to protect your backliners from enemy gank squads, to prevent enemies from escaping.

The reason why I chose Death Perception over Foot in the Grave is because yes, FitG gives you a stun break and a few secs of stability, but it’s only one stack of stability and the stability is only applied when you pop into Shroud; it does not pulse. In my opinion, having that 50% increased crit chance is going to be so much more useful, especially when you pop Shroud 3 (each stab stack lasts 3 sec and the stability pulses every second for 8 seconds), then Shroud 2 to leap in and spin on the enemy using Shroud 4; you’re going to be dealing massive DPS with the DP grandmaster trait.

For your attack rotation, I think it’s going to look something like this:

Start off on your staff and throw out your marks as you get closer to your enemy. Once you’re within range of your enemy, pop “Nothing Can Save You!” Then, go into Shroud and use Shroud skills 3, 2 and 4. Then pop out of Shroud, switch to GS (activating your Hydromancy sigil), use GS 5, “Suffer!” + GS 4 (the blind at the end will chill them again) and finish with GS 3 and 2. Use Consume Conditions and WoP as needed to condi cleanse/heal.

Your second attack rotation is going to be more simple, with you starting off on staff again and throwing out your marks, then popping Plague and just staying close to the tag while spamming Plague skill 2 Once the Plague ends, switch to GS and just swing your GS around. This allows you to immediately push in with your melee a second time while also giving you increased toughness/vitality and a chance for your skills to go off cooldown.

Anyway, that’s all I have for now. Let me know what you guys think.

Hoping devs see this and give necro warhorn 4 blast finisher and warhorn 5 area swiftness instead of just swiftness to necro himself. This would make the necro a more effective team player in wvw seeing as how right now necros are one of the more selfish classes. Please please please give necros warhorn blast finisher and ability to grant area swiftness!

LionChain.7694

Looking to join a friendly, organized guild that does PvE, PvP, regular WvW raids/roaming and multiple guild mission runs throughout the week. Ideally, the guild would have 24/7 buffs for members.

About me: I play everything in GW2…dungeons/fracs, SW, WvW, PvP, etc. When I roam, I usually run with my mesmer or ranger, although sometimes I like to mix it up and roam with a class I don’t normally roam with (just to learn something new). When I zerg, I like to run with my guardian, elementalist, ranger or necromancer. For PvP, I’m open to playing any class, although currently I’m really fond of playing my guardian or necromancer (for a while i just PvP’ed on ranger or mesmer, so I’m trying something new).

I like to keep things drama-free; don’t disrespect me and I won’t disrespect you. I don’t care about swearing or whatever, but I draw the line at derogatory comments, phrases or terms toward race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.

I am able to get on TS during raids/guild missions and follow instructions, but I have no mic. For WvW, I generally run the meta builds for classes more or less; I like to make a few tweaks here and there like run a different US or trait or whatever just because that feels more comfortable to me and therefore makes me more effective. And to be honest, I’m not really willing to completely conform to the meta in order to join a guild (I know that for some guilds, it’s required to strictly run the exact meta without any deviations, no exceptions).

Overall, I’m not like a super pro PvP/WvW player, but I am somewhere above the average, casual player. I like to be competitive and I’m very enthusiastic about GW2, but also I like to have fun.

So, if you’re a guild in FA and you’re looking for a new PvX/WvW player, please let me know.

PS, Not looking for a guild where I have to fill out an application and go through some probation period or something.

LionChain.7694

Like the title says, I’m looking for an active NA DB server PvX guild that does regular guild missions (preferably after reset on Sundays) with friendly, experienced players who don’t troll and who aren’t jerks and/or obnoxious.

About me: I play Guardian and Warrior, and I mostly like doing dungeons and fractals (I’m slowly working my way toward my Dungeoneer title). Sometimes I do PvP and WvW. I regularly do Triple Trouble and multiple Teq events, and sometimes I’ll do other boss events like Jormag or Karka. When I need a break from dungeons, I like to farm SW or EotM. I have/use both TS and mumble. Currently, I’m working on my Sunrise legendary. I’ve been playing for over half a year now and I have over 5,200 AP.

LB + a/w-WvW-Signet Might build

in Ranger

Posted by: LionChain.7694

LionChain.7694

Hi,

I’m working on a might build for my ranger, but I’m having trouble trying to figure out how to increase ferocity without sacrificing too much armor, or sacrificing a trait I want to keep, or my rune set or some other piece of this build that seems vital. Anytime I try to increase ferocity, I suddenly see my armor drop by 200-300 or I lose my -40% condition duration, or I have to swap out the critical strength rune set, or I have to sacrifice traits and I feel like that’d make this build weaker.

But I was also thinking that even though my ferocity is just 150%, I’m stacking so much might with this build that I may not need high ferocity, especially considering my signets, trait and runes increase my damage output and my power will be so high that even with a lil over 150% ferocity, I’ll still do decent damage. What do you guys think?

Also, if there’s anything you think I should switch out or if you have any tips you think would help improve this build, please let me know.

Finally, as always, please don’t be a butt when you reply. Being a butt includes but is not limited to: being rude, condescending, rude, uppity, rude, elitist, rude, insulting, rude. Oh, and also please don’t be rude :-P.

P.S. This is an exotic build, so if you’re posting an edited version of this build or something, please make sure it’s set to exotic gear so the stats are accurate. I don’t have legendary/ascended gear yet.

P.P.S. If you think something won’t work or something will work better, please provide reasons…don’t just put something down or tell me to do something else without saying why.

Thank you in advance to all who reply and help! :-)

Oxtred, thanks for the notes. Some of them were helpful, especially about the runes and the traits. I do think you’re exaggerating though when you say that this won’t work at all in PvE; I’m sure you meant that it’s not as effective as another build. Can you explain why you don’t think it would be effective enough? Also, can you clarify if you meant PvE in general or specifically dungeons and events? In either case, can you provide specific reasons why you don’t think this build would be good for PvE?

LionChain.7694

Hi,

First things first: I’m not claiming originality on this build. Someone out there probably came up with something similar to this before me, so please don’t be all like, ‘You ripped this off of so-and-so and you’re claiming it as your own!’

This is a build in progress, so any notes are welcome.

When replying, please don’t be a butt (i.e. being insulting, condescending, and generally unpleasant and thinking it’s okay because you’re behind a computer screen). You’re a person and I’m a person, and this is just a game (a game that I very much love and am very enthusiastic about like a lot of people – hence the build post – but still just a game at the end of the day, so please…there’s no need for any nastiness).

With that said, let’s get into this build…

This is a build that utilizes both shouts and meditations – in combination with virtues – to give a player decent survivability through stun breaks, blocking, condition cleanses, healing and damage reduction, while also dealing decent damage itself through might-stacking via attacking, blocking, weapon-swapping and Empowering.

The staff on this build, combined with the shouts and virtues, is meant to give decent support to teammates through condition cleanses, healing, and boon application.

This build is designed for WvW zerg runs (this build should be helpful to other players both in and out of combat via swiftness/mobility and good support/damage), and also for PvE (this build should be helpful to fellow players during dungeons and world bosses while dealing decent damage itself via might-stacking).

In short, this build is meant to be both offensive and supportive (to yourself and to allies). Maybe it doesn’t do either as well as if I did just one or the other purely, but this build is meant to find a good medium between the two while still doing both at a decent effective level.

So, as I said, notes are welcome. Please let me know what you think and how I can improve this build.

Hello, all! This is a build-in-progress for PvE and WvW. My goal is to make an ele with lots of survivability and good damage output…the survivability is especially important because ele’s naturally don’t have a lot of vitality or armor. Anyway, please provide feedback…if you are posting alternate builds, please make sure they’re exotic…also please make sure it’s an updated version of the posted build…please don’t just post an entirely different build and tell me to use that instead as it’s not very helpful feedback…I really need help making THIS build more viable. Thank you!

So I took a look at what some of you said, and tried to incorporate your notes into this updated build.

Please take a look and see what you think.

Changes: Improved power and armor over precision (still at 30%), changed shield to warhorn, changed some of the traits around a bit (i.e. add merciless hammer and quick breathing), changed sigils to intelligence and renewal on both weapon sets

UPDATED: changed the stats again so I have increased ferocity…at base level I have 14% precision, but with perma-fury, I have 34%, so I figure I’m crit-hitting every third attack…I figured with sigil of intelligence, this would be enough

So I saw a video of a shout heal tank warrior by SirKoroshi posted a while back and wanted to post my own version with some differences. Some of these differences include:

-Using a hammer instead of a GS. Yes, I’ve heard all the arguments why I should use GS instead of hammer, but personally, I just really like the hammer (way more than the GS…it’s not a matter of DPS or anything like that for me…it’s just a matter of personal taste and playstyle). It’s a great weapon in WvW, PvP and PvE (especially against mobs). I’ve heard people tell me to use GS in dungeons and against bosses, and in those cases, yes, they’re right. That’s why I’m keeping a GS in my inventory as a backup in such cases. But my default main weapon will always be the hammer.

-Using Opal Jewels instead of Rubies…this is to get extra precision.

-Using Assassin weapons instead of Berserker’s…again, to get more precision.

-My traits are slightly different…0/0/4/6/4…my major traits are Dogged March and Cleansing Ire in Defense (although I’ll switch Cleansing Ire for Merciless Hammer if I’m playing with supportive players/players with lots of group condi cleanse)…Lung Capacity, Shrug it Off and Vigorous Shouts in Tactics (although I’ll trade Lung Capacity for Leg Specialist if I’m using GS so I can root someone while using Hundred Blades)…and Warrior’s Sprint and Inspiring Shouts in Discipline.

Anyway, please take a look and let me know what you think.

Stealth Tank Thief (d/d and sb) - exotic

Before I begin, I want to state that I’m NOT claiming this to be an ‘original’ build. I’m sure someone else at some point came up with an idea for a similar build such as this. I’m just sharing this build because this is my variation on it and I wanted to see if anyone had any feedback to help improve it. With that said, let’s get into it!

So this is a thief build I’ve been working on. It focuses on stealthing, healing and has a secondary focus on initiative regain (so you can use more weapon skills and heal faster). It also focuses on getting the most out of the ‘steal’ profession skill. The armor on this build is pretty decent (a little over 2900), so it provides good protection. Using Smoke Screen and Cluster Bomb together is a potent combo – it grants stealth, healing, deals decent damage, and also grants might.

Pros – a lot of healing and stealthing, this build really takes advantage of the ‘steal’ profession skill, dodging and stealthing as well (you gain might every time you stealth), you also gain swiftness and might when you dodge, and when your endurance is not full, you deal extra damage. And of course, this build has decent armor and vitality (which is good, since the thief is on the lower end of the base health pool). The build is tanky, but it still has 52% crit chance, 171% ferocity and 1783 power, which is further improved by the might stacking of stealthing, weapon swaps and dodging.

Cons for this build/profession – the deception skills that grant stealth are not available for underwater combat, so I had to opt for skills that evade and grant initiative regeneration. This made the build incredibly weaker underwater. Overall, I found the utility skills available to thieves underwater to be lackluster. So, you know, try to avoid underwater combat as much as possible, especially if you’re up against a guardian or ranger, both of which have awesome underwater combat abilities. This build is pretty selfish as it doesn’t have a lot of ally support. If you want, you can switch out a trait for Shadow Protector so you grant allies regeneration when you stealth them using Shadow Refuge.

Notes: Try to stagger between your utility deception skills, your weapon skills and your dodges so you don’t get caught between cooldowns

This build – this profession, really – requires you to be quick on your keyboard. Try not to overthink things; this will only slow you down, which is something the thief can’t afford. Don’t worry if you can’t get a hang of this build/profession right away. Personally, it’s one of the more challenging professions for me to play. And even though I’m better at it than I was before, I still have a long way to go. Also be careful on initiative use, as always with this profession. The stealthing grants you extra initiative regen (2 each time you stealth), but still be cautious.

Speaking of stealthing, make sure you wait until the last possible moment to use Backstab (which you should always open with after you go into stealth…this should be easy since you move 50% faster while in stealth), seeing as how each second of stealth grants you 327 healing. It also gives you breathing room to regain initiative.

If you’re really in a jam, go into stealth and retreat…the Fleet Shadow trait enables you to move 50% faster, as stated before, so running away should be easy for you. If you need to put further distance between you and an enemy, you can always use the SB to shadowstep away.

Above is a full regen shout ranger that I’ve been working on. Please take a look and provide any feedback. The main focus of this build is regen coupled with might stacking and decent crit chance and trying to give the pet enough survivability through healing to deal as much damage as possible. This ranger I believe would also be good for dungeoning because shouts provide regen and swiftness to allies as well.

I hope they fix this soon because the game is fun to play and addictive, but if this keeps happening, I’m going to have to stop playing this game.
