This is still busted on Tarnished Coast. Huge disappointment.
This is really awful in towns especially for me, but I’ve seen it in WvW as well. I’m fairly certain this is not an issue on my computer’s end, particularly. This invisibility problem did not always exist.
He’s been broken for several restarts, despite being bug-reported for a while now. It seemed to be a popular farming event so perhaps Vollym’s death is intentional.
He’s broken on Tarnished Coast.
I am really getting tired of running into the same problem in every map. I hope ArenaNet gets their act together on these soon.
“My question is if we complete it again before the October Achievement comes around are we going to get rewarded again?” – Yes. I’m currently working on monthly achievement completion number 3 as it has reset multiple times for me.
Yep, same here. I am on September monthly completion #3.
It’s possible that they’re taking credit for it, lest we forget that in GW1, map travel was possible by humans before they knew asura existed.
No idea. It worked at 5:00 AM PT this morning on Tarnished Coast. Best I can offer you. Will it break again? Given their track record I will pessimistically say “oh, probably”.
I also did mine on Tarnished Coast at about 6:30am PT. I can at least confirm that the failure to respawn issue is fixed. My guess is that it is probably still subject to the same bugs as the other skill points are and that it will eventually get “stuck” at some point, though.
I do appreciate ArenaNet finally addressing this issue and hope they fix whatever’s getting the skill points stuck in the first place soon.
A mod could edit someone’s post for caps locks, but not respond to the bug affecting the most players in the entire game. Pathetic.
They are a bit busy counting their money to respond to support tickets and bugs, it appears.
This skill point is broken again.
Not that it’s a surprise; there are dozens of skill points broken and for some reason ArenaNet can’t figure out how to put an automatic reset timer on their skill point NPCs.
On the original question, I really doubt Liraz was asking for the in-game technical details of exactly how waypoints work. We don’t need any, “the device creates a stable wormhole between superconducting rings that have been placed in fixed positions elsewhere in the galaxy.” We just want to know, from a character perspective, about the actual requirements and limitations of the waypoints.
Right, I’m not asking for the technical details of magi-technobabble so much as I’m asking how do they work from the user’s perspective. When my character’s using a waypoint, what exactly do they have to do, and what are they experiencing and seeing? That’s the kind of information I need.
You would think that something that is preventing players from 100%-ing the map – which, in turn, is preventing them from world completion rewards and creating legendary weapons – would be a little higher priority than this after two weeks. Really disappointing.
This is still broken on Tarnished Coast as of this evening. I check every day and it is never fixed. I have bug reported it multiple times.
The larger female norn bodies have serious clipping issues with the back of many medium armors, I’ve found. Nothing sillier than seeing your character’s butt protruding out the back of their coat.
The humans are the historians and the statesmen. Their culture once dominated the entire continent, and their past litters the world. They have deep links to both the Priory and the Whispers, and they are the only race to have faced down darkness in recent times and survived. It was their choices and actions that laid the foundation for why the races that flourish today are able to do so.
I understand your frustration, though. They are also socially backwards, seeming to retain outdated ways of thinking and prejudices, finding petty biases and social class worthy reasons to trample one another. Many of them hide inside their decadent capital city and try to ignore the wars outside, as if their race is not dying out. They are masters of nothing but the past, clinging to absent gods and the vain hope that they will somehow be delivered from the inevitable.
I can see why you’d be frustrated, OP. The humans are a race whose time has passed, and it often seems like they’re passed over in terms of “interesting” lore. Everything that was ever exciting about them happened in Guild Wars 1 instead, I think.
I’d love real answers to the OP’s questions too! The NPCs that talk about the Mist War talk about it as if it’s this thing that has always existed and somehow threatens each world’s existence, but doesn’t explain the how or the why.
If we accept part of it as game mechanics, then why not the whole thing, though? Where’s the line between what’s convenience and what’s lore-based? This is why we need clarification on how waypoints work so we can make informed and logical arguments about the effects of waypoints on the world and how our characters use them in roleplay.
Even if race-changing was to become an option, I hope we get the ability to rename a character first, since many character names wouldn’t make sense as their new race.

Agreed with both of the first two posters. As a guild leader, these would be stellar metrics to have at my disposal. Trying to keep track of these things manually is difficult for someone who holds a job and sleeps every now and again.
There are definitely horses in Tyria, and the NPCs mention them both in GW1 and GW2.
They existed at the time of Orr, since there were undead horsemen in GW1. The imagery of knights on horseback persists even to the present day Tyria (check out the pictures of the festival in DR, for example), and two of the guild symbols it is available is that of unicorns.

There are also horses mentioned in Edge of Destiny, page 97:
In Edge of Destiny a herd of wild horses is seen through an asura gate when Logan, Rytlock, and Caithe flee from the Destroyer horde in the Dwarven ruins.
“Visions. Beautiful visions… a grassy plain where wild horses ran… a deep lagoon encircled by leaning palms…”
There’s horses in the concept art:
This lore bit here also mentions skilled horsemen:
And here’s a dude in original GW that mentions riding horses:
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Zumo_the_Beggar
Hey, hey you! I was riding my horse to the other side of town and I ran out of hey to feed him to get there. Spare a few gold so I can feed him and be on my way?
So there are definitely horses in the lore, all over the place.
The better question is, why don’t we SEE any horses in Tyria?
Considering the amount of butter I see dropped, I’d think this game was sponsored by Paula Deen.
I don’t know about a race-change, but I would really like to be able to alter appearance and character name post-creation like I coul d in GW1.
I also agree with the OP. There is no reason that someone should have to queue for hours and hope that their server is strong enough to take all of the points they need to complete the map. There are some servers that may never, ever, own Stonemist Keep, or own it so infrequently that they’re never awake/home at the times they do have it.
I would love to have this. /signed
Agreed! I have almost clicked that far too many times already.

There’s already a nearly-4000 user strong base of roleplayers on Guild Wars 2 Roleplayers. – if you’re looking for a stronger RP community, that’s the place to start!
ArenaNet has always seemed to strive to give their gameplay mechanics an IC introduction, even when it didn’t really make much sense otherwise. There was something akin to waypoint travel in GW1, too, and there were quests that introduced it, but no one has ever explained the how or the why.
I guess it’s just confusing to people because there is this amazing technology but it doesn’t seem to have had any impact on the world in general. Teleportation still seems this mystical thing that even the heroes are mystified by, from Logan’s reaction during explorable Caudecus’ Manor, and NPCs in Lion’s Arch seem surprised and confused by the ability to go anywhere instantaneously via asura gates.
It’s why I asked for clarification in the first place, since the reality of it isn’t matching up with the IC way it was introduced.
I’m hoping we can get some details and clarification about how waypoints work. Right now, we know is that they are asura-created, but the finer points are kind of a mystery. Some questions are:
1) How does one use a waypoint? Is it a device that you carry on your person, or are you bound to each waypoint individually? Is there a more technical explanation? Can one person’s waypoint use be tracked by others?
2) Do you have to register with anyone to use the waypoints? Who is the money paid to? Can anyone use them, or just our heroic PCs, and why? How commonly are they used, and how many people use them/know about them? Why don’t NPCs use them to travel, or enemies to infiltrate behind the battle lines, or criminals to escape justice?
3) Are there any limitations on waypoints? Are there limits on where they can be built or used? Why can’t goods or pack animals be waypointed and are instead limited to using the gates instead? Are waypoints ever dangerous to use?
A lot of these questions have an impact on roleplay in that they impact how travel, warfare, trade, law enforcement, and so forth work in the world, so I’m hoping Ree or Jeff, or an ANet employee that just happens to know or can pass these questions on, can help fill in the blanks.
Thanks in advance!
I noticed the exact same problem on Tarnished Coast – the gate is closed and the event that is needed to open it is bugged out. The waypoint nearest to it, Ogduk, never comes out of contested state either.

The only response has been an automated one apologizing for the delay.
