How do you "casual" ?

How to casual:

First, equip gear with either toughness, vitality, healing power, or multiples of each and go pug dungeons. Be sure never to use nourishment unless it boosts magic find.

If you’re on a warrior, be sure to rifle things as much as possible with a dolyak signet.

If you’re on a guardian, camp the living daylights out of that staff and equip 3 shouts at all times no exceptions.

If you’re on a mesmer, GS all day with no feedback, temporal curtain or time warp under any condition.

If you’re on a ranger, bear + bow. Always.

If you’re on an elementalist, ensure that you’re in celestial and camp staff for everything. Stacking might is for zerk noobs; camp dat water attunement and spam dem water fields. Spider queen is simply too dangerous and your allies require it.

If you’re on a necromancer, you’re already doing a good job.

If you’re on a thief, p/p without ever taking initiative to SR or blast smokescreen to save time by skipping past mobs.

I think I seriously disagree on your definition of casual. To me it does not necessarily mean “not capable to do speedclears”, not even “clueless”. To me it means more like “unconstrained”, so it’s rather “not willing to cram his/her little available playing time under a rigid regiment to reach a specific (competitive) goal”.

Well I’ll have you know that for a lot of people, being “hardcore” means repeating the same instances/dungeons/raids over and over and over again until they know them by heart and can run them without any defenses or need to keep their eyes open, good Sir. You’d be wise not to shatter their delusions of grandeur.

How do I “casual?” Let’s see, first I put on my WW1 era pilot goggles, grab a bottle of rum, log in, select my warrior, and run dungeons and fractals half drunk while screaming into teamspeak. Somehow my guild doesn’t hate me yet.

+1 to you for making me laugh at work.

Good, cause the server that shalt not be named has enough whiners already. Just wanted to be sure that people realize that you’re not on it.

How come I didn’t hear the 2 underdog servers complaining about being dominated for the full season? They gladly accept their last place and continue to have fun in WvWvW. Are they not the victim as well? Do they need to call Anet to fix it as well?

Complainers will complain no matter what.

PS: I am not allowed to mention any server name, so use your brain to fill in the name yourself.

The server that shalt not be named isn’t complaining per se. Some individuals residing on said server that shalt not be named are. Chances are they are fairweather warriors.

I really depends. Actually there’s two huge tendencies that seem to stand out:

1. Your server is winning: What makes a server good is skill.
2. Your server is losing: What makes a server good is coverage.

Can GW2 be successful at China?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lydell.8713

GW2 is one of the grindiest games on the market right now, I suspect they will love it. It makes WoW look like a cake walk and they liked that game.

Western market. GW2 in China will not be competing with Western games, but with the Asian ones. And though GW2 is indeed very grindy, it does not really compare to those.

Grindy? I don’t think I have “grinded” once in over 3000 hours of game time. Oh all right, maybe level 70 through 80 felt a bit like a grind on my 4th or 5th alt.
I’d agree more with that guy saying the game isn’t grindy enough for Chinese tastes.

Add *optional* duel feature + follow function

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lydell.8713

There’s already a follow function. If you add someone to your friends list, they do not have to reciprocate. They don’t even get a notification that they’ve been added to your list. You can then follow them, and there’s support for people following you. If you look under Y, there’s a tab for people following you.

Think he meant the ability to follow another player, like run behind them automatically like the ranger pets do. Lots of MMOs have that feature and it would indeed be cool to have it here.

Today I had the first day since a year when I simply did not want to see this world anymore. This crowded, pointless, ruined world. Hope it works out for you, but we, with my gf, are pretty much done. Together we maxed out 16 characters, bought about 58000 gems, and we’re completely sick of this pathetic wreck of a game Anet forced upon us this month.
We hoped to stay in Tyria, pay even more, help in making it even better. Turns out we were paying for some mad financial scheme that made me turn off this game for good after 5 minutes of watching the crowd trying to avoid each other on Cursed Shore. What’s the point? To see how my loot stash grows? Pathetic. I’ve been working in gaming industry for 7 years now. I can professionally call the last patch a ‘D -look, I’m circumventing the filter- ICK MOVE’.
gg. It used to be.

Hey dude, I was trying to be positive here. There’s that other post out there “My farewell” if you want to complain.

Kidding, you’re entitled to your opinion, even in “my” thread. Although it baffles me that some people HAVE to come to the forums and post about their leaving the game. Like anyone cares… I’ve quit a ton of mmos before, disgruntled. Never occured to me to go on the forums to tell the community about it. That sense of self-importance people have these days…
I’m usually fine with people complaining, even if some of them sound like broken records, at least, you can see it in the spirit of “I want them to make the game better for everyone, so here are my thoughts.” Those “I’m leaving” posts, though,… yeah, self-importance.

Well, that’s it, people. After some three thousand hours spent playing GW2 since launch. After the sad Scarlet joke and the LS, the megaservers, the tragic and still painful death of a certain charr engineer with a fascination for apples… I’ve decided to keep on playing Guild Wars 2.

For the last three months, I’ve been really trying to get out of Dodge, binging on other games. I’ve played ESO extensively during the beta. Hell, for a moment I even considered Wildstar. You know, at some point, you’re ready to do anything, so don’t judge me.
But nope, nothing worked. So I’m gonna stay. I’m saying that without animosity or bitterness. Just gonna, you know, continue and have fun in this lovely little mmo.

I believe the blog already addresses that concern, specifically that it’s based on the language of your home server (or the one you guested to, but you cant guest to EU from NA, so…) so any NA server is only going to get sorted with other NA servers. Although it is a valid question for EU servers.

Feedback/Questions: The Megaserver System: World Bosses and Events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lydell.8713

Lydell.8713

I have a couple questions regarding the language aspect of map selection. Will it be based on the language selected during client installation or actual geographical location of the player? I’m asking that because I live in a french-speaking country. Usually when I open the GW2 website, it detects me as a french-speaker and bumps me to GW2.com/fr. While I have no issue with understanding my mother tongue, I still need to flip it back each time to /en so I can visit the forums that the people on my server visit.

The language seems to be a rather determining factor for map selection with the megaserver system. Yet I would rather avoid being sent on french-populated maps, if only because my life schedule has me mostly playing during NA prime time. Not to mention is would be odd, as an inhabitant of Blackgate since launch, to suddenly find myself PVE’ing with people from Vizunah Square (actually I’m beginning to doubt that eventuality as I write this, since it is already impossible to guest to the EU servers.)

To Taimi's Creators

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Lydell.8713

Lydell.8713

The difference is in whether the person lets their conditions define them.

Our conditions do not define us but all of them have an impact on our lives. I’m writing this as someone living with multiple disabilities. Taimi does not reflect that sentiment. Her golem isn’t hard to control, never malfunctions, appears to be extremely durable and is superior in every way when compared to her actual physical body. Why did the writers give her a disability at all when it has no drawbacks or consequences? It feels artificial and cheap.

When Edge of the Mists launched, Taimi was stranded there because her golem was broken and needed repairs. We had to go in and get spare parts to help her repair it so she can go back to Rata Sum. I have a friend whose disability has him only able to use a computer with the use of a voice recognition program. Yet he still plays game. He has even leveled a ranger to 80 with only the occasional mesmer teleport to help him reach vistas that require some coordinated jumping. See, in a way, you similarly could say the program he uses takes away some of the drawbacks of not being able to handle a mouse and keyboard. All I see is a tool to help make his life a little easier and that allowed us to play together against all odds.

I really think you’re reading too much into it, with all due respect to the hardships your condition have brought into your life. Characters like Taimi feel good to people like Christina or my buddy because although they’ve been dealt a bad hand, they can still accomplish things, they can stand next to those nice, healthy heroes. Just like in real life they shouldn’t be cast aside just because their bodies aren’t 100% functional.

Question about KasJory Romance [Spoiler-ish]

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Lydell.8713

Lydell.8713

Jory’s sister’s reaction comes more from Jory’s sister knowing Jory’s buttons than an influence of the GW2 society. I took the dialog in the Dead End as being surprised and friendly banter that Jory’s interested in a noble – obviously one of Jory’s buttons. And sis is just lightly rubbing it in.

As for comparisons to our own history – how about we just not? Too much bad. Clean slate, Mr. Sulu, set a course for out there.

Oh myyyy!

Jokes aside, I don’t get the argument here. Ancient Greece was tolerant of homosexuality, yet on the timeline, they’re predating Christianity. They were also very religious but even in the military, homosexual relationships were encouraged and viewed as a positive. Don’t be so “christianocentric”, if that’s even a word. And more so, don’t blame the writers at Anet for not being so.

i wanted to talk about 2 things
1) kiels behaviour during this attack was abysmal – i never once saw her on the battlefield (as per usual) and she threatened gnashblade into service – not kidding, it was either work for free or firing squad -

So, basically, she kept him from making money off the backs of the victims of Scarlet’s attack. Not only that, but she used her power to get him to help people, not for profit, but just because they needed help. Jeez, what a terrible, heartless woman.

it was still a threat, i dont think thats the right thing to do, she could have had a word with him/tried to persuade him but she didnt even try

She took his resources by force, sure, but to put them to good use. She knows Gnashblade and she knows that she couldn’t have convinced him, especially her, considering the beef they’ve had. To be fair, I’d praise the person who’d go and force wealthy citizens to put their resources to good use in the light of a tragedy of that scope. Unfortunately, that never happens in real life, instead, it’s the non-wealthy ones who are asked to dig in their pockets to provide relief, while the wealthy and powerful will only see it as an opportunity to make more money.

Would you rather they’d sell weapons or armor that’d give you an edge in-game? WoW is subscription-based, that’s how they make their money. GW2 isn’t subscription-based and from the start, they said that the gem store would sell cosmetic and quality of life items. I’m fine with that, don’t need new hair to better enjoy the game (and I’m talking from the perspective of someone who’s had a fair share of uses of the makeover kids and hair kits.)

Season 1 | Lack of Major Male Characters!

in Living World

Posted by: Lydell.8713

Lydell.8713

I like the females-heavy cast so far. Especially since it’s very rare in RPGs and fantasy in general. I’d also disagree on Braham being pathetic. He’s young, not super-bright, but his heart is in the right place. And the interactions with Taimi are difficult not to love. I also never feel that they’re “laughing at him” like the previous poster said, rather than laughing “with” him.
I’m actually regularly pleasantly surprised by the “narrative” bits and criticism about the gameplay content of the LS aside (I’d agree on the too much stuff encouraging zerg behavior), I’d say it has more substance than the average MMORPG narratives. The characters are nicely fleshed out and relatable. Not because of their fancy heroics or awesome looks so much than because they feel human.

So no, I don’t share the sentiment that there’s too little male presence in the LS cast (let’s not forget Evon Gnashblade, who’s awesome.)

I’m not sure if moving everything to the Vigil was a good decision though. Only a third of the players chose the Vigil for starters. Plus, it kind of ruins the opportunity of making the racial cities matter. I think they should have forced all players to simply go back to their racial capitals, and make that their new home.

Think it’s more of a lore reason, pure and simple. The Vigil Keep is a fortress and if I had to chose where to wait for impending doom between the Priory, Chantry and Vigil Keep for safety, I think it’s a no brainer.

Makeshift LA sucks

And another one, I guess. I’ve always considered Divinity’s Reach home. Much more convenient for crafting, much less overcrowded. With the occasional stop at LA for the Mystic Toilet. One has to relieve oneself from time to time.

LA has always felt more like a mall. I wouldn’t mind if the local mall was destroyed and rebuilt somewhere else, completely different. It’s just a kittenn’ mall.

Here’s an idea: don’t like ascended? Don’t grind for them.
I don’t care about FoTM, so I know I won’t worry about getting the armor (which, from what I hear, brings a ridiculously minimal overall bonus.) I got the jewels, of course, but you can’t really talk of a grind there, just do your dailies and monthlies and you can get a full set in a couple months. Without really trying. Without grinding, in short. If you’re in a guild that does guild missions, it’s even easier as they’ll give you tokens for 2 of the 5 trinkets.

I might consider making a couple ascended weapons with the mats that just keep on piling up in my bank. I did get one from loot too. Am I feeling “forced” by the game in any kind of vertical progression grind? Nope. As a matter of fact, most of the time I don’t even use my looted ascended GS cause I like the skin on my exotic GS better. Losing 9 points in power, 4-5 in precision doesn’t break my build. Do not NEED it. Still as care free as during beta weekend number 2. I’m competitive in every area of the game except high level FoTM, basically. Oh I did grind a bit. Wanted a legendary. Self-inflicted pain, though, I didn’t really need it.

So there you go. Am I against the idea of vertical progression in GW2? Yup, that was the main selling point for me. Did GW2 force me into it? Nope.

(Actually, slight edit. I don’t mind the idea of VP. What I’d mind would be to be forced on a treadmill grind run to keep up with it because there’s no other option but to keep up with it. My conclusion was a little unclear)

One would argue that a massive attack on the historical city of Lion’s Arch, all the victims, the fact that a giant drill is at work to unearth kitten knows what but most likely something terrible and destructive is a solid chunk of lore in the making.

Bandwagonners should have to pay full price for their whole guilds to xfer if they care so little about the server that they’re currently on.
And, I agree, it will probably be the last nail in the coffin for low pop servers this time around.

Hardly a solution as it would also dissuade guilds on stacked servers to transfer to low pop ones if they ever fancied that idea. Coverage, as it is, is an issue that has no easy response to, which is more than likely why Anet hasn’t done anything about it yet.

My answer to the OP is yes, btw. I hope they keep on trying and improve it. And I know I’m on one of the most stacked NA servers, but that’s the thing, a lot of us would probably prefer more competitive matchups too.

I just find “revive” problematic as people quite often think it as rallying. They also seem to mix up the terms as downed skills talk about healing instead of reviving.

Revive: Verb
revive (third-person singular simple present revives, present participle reviving, simple past and past participle revived)
(transitive) To return to life; to recover life or strength; to live anew; to become reanimated or reinvigorated.
The Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into again, and he revived. 1 Kings xvii. 22.
The dying puppy was revived by a soft hand.
Her grandmother refused to be revived if she lost consciousness
