To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.
I believe you need to read the forums more, ma’am. The message you just posted is not the same message that your pricing structure is telling your client base. Actions > Words.
If we already have the game then where’s our incentive to pay too much for your product.

The pricing is ridiculous. Nothing I’ve seen in this game justifies paying $50 for an expansion with a few new maps and no expansion slots, especially when I already have the base game.
Same. I’ve now missed some items on the Gem store. I’ve cleared cache and tried other characters. No luck. Gem store and main buy/sell window are fine, the Currency Exchange is a blank slate but I can mouse over the black area and I can see the mouseover text. Not normal buttons, text or graphics though.
Number of threads (or even responses or pages on the forums) doesn’t really mean anything. We just keep seeing the same half dozen people create and keep these threads alive.
You’re forgetting how many of us just don’t bother posting anymore about it. The game’s mostly stagnant and lacks replay value for the most part.
I did enjoy the second living story so far and I’ll probably join in a zerg or two this week, but I expect that I’ll fade back out again soon. I doubt I’ll post another complaint about it. It is what it is, and if they continue to improve with the new LS then I’ll play a bit more. If not, I won’t. I’m playing mostly because it’s free and my budget’s shot. Otherwise, there are better game playing experiences out there. At the same time though, if they put out a decent fully fleshed-out expansion then I would buy it since I’ve invested so much in the franchise already.
Personally, I like it. Someone in Anet got their heads on straight and made it so that someone like me can actually give a hoot about the story and be able to follow it.
For one thing, too much of the first season was just garbage that didn’t seem to link together and even when the pieces were put together it was still a stretch.
Second, if I missed certain things due to working, family and other obligations, it didn’t even matter in the game so why bother? It was no fun coming into the Marionette without having been involved in the events immediately prior to it. Reading about the stuff post-event online doesn’t count. I want to have a part in the story not read about it.
I personally still think that every one should have access to the stories though, regardless of whether they log in during the two-ish week period or not. We paid for the game and sometime gems or other contributions and it’s kinda like you can’t take a summer vacation without being cut out from it. Regardless, having to log in once to be able to access the content weeks last is a step in the right direction.
After funerals, hospital stay and other real life events I was able to spend a week doing all of the LS2 stuff straight through thanks to the new system.
Probably the biggest thing I like is being able to REPLAY the stuff. That’s what made GW1 fun – being able to replay the main missions and stuff that we enjoyed the most with friends. GW2 seriously lacks in replay value unless you enjoy the herd mentality (which I’m ok with for a little while but not for long periods of time). Being able to do the LS stuff with friends later is a very good thing. It’s just a kitten shame they took it out form the personal story in the first place, like guild halls and a lot of other stuff that made GW1 fun.
LS started great and got worse and worse, in my opinion.
Anyhow, I don’t see anything new coming to this game any time soon. Seeing as how I’ve chosen to make my complaints known on the forum again instead of actually playing the game, I’m going to take another long break now. GW2 took a lot of the great things about GW1 and either changed them or removed them. They could have implemented a lot of their “new generation MMO” aspects while still keeping fun aspects of GW1, but they did not.
I don’t really bother with the forums if I’m a happy game player, but I do like to add my feedback to the lot since I am a paying customer (we paid for the game and possibly gems, we are paying customers, whether there’s a monthly sub or not).
Unfortunately, if there was an expansion at this point I don’t know if I’d buy it. They may have passed the point of no return (or no expansion purchase) for me.
This sums up my sentiment about GW vs. GW2. The skill variety, the build freedom, & the template saving from GW were amazing.
Yup.
I’m not saying GW2 has got it right, it hasn’t. It needs to be improved. But I feel it is definitely a step in the right direction and they have done a great job so far. They just need to refine it. If they can make all our skills and traits useful and equally effective, we will have the best of both worlds. We will never (I hope) have the same quantity of builds that were available in GW1, but providing we have enough to keep people happy I think quality is a much better thing to strive for.
Your approach to playing the game is different than my own (and that of Seras, I believe). You’re looking at efficiency and quality of builds while we’re looking at overall enjoyment of the gameplay.
Personally, I want to have fun and decide what is a quality build for myself instead of having my options being limited. I did everything in GW1 using both my own and cookie-cutter builds – the reason they were so popular is because they worked. Not problem with that. However, they got old fast and having that ability to experiment kept the gameplay fresh. GW1 did a much better job at getting parties to synchronize their skill bars as well and the cross-class system allowed for many dynamic team bars. GW2 is a lot more chaotic and in larger events you wonder why you even bother trying.
What I don’t like is the elimination of the freedom and options that were available with GW1. What good is having a “quality” build if you have few options?
What would you think about someone giving you a choice of broccoli, rice, potatoes, and fish for dinner when you really want a meat-lovers pizza. Oh, wait, the pizza isn’t good for you so we’re going to take it away now…
Less options = Boring and lacks replayability. More options = more fun.
I agree builds in GW2 are more closely tied to the armor specs you have and it’s costly to have enough multiple sets of armor with the different stats. Had the same issues with GW1 though. I had multiple armor sets for different builds then too so it’s not that big of a change.
How about give us something kittening new to kill and do that expands the world. Expansion, please. Returned to the game a bit ago and will be taking another break again soon. Sill no precursor and still very little new and permanent in the game.
It’s a money grind… how much money can you make today doing the same thing you’ve done 500 times already, etc. That’s not much of a game to me.
I say stop upgrading the old kitten, give us new and better kitten.
They do have build variations but it’s mostly through the trait lines and it’s more of a fine-tuning than an obvious thing. I don’t care for it. I’m not sitting there with my stats calculator figuring out all the numbers, I just want to play a fun game with a variety of obviously skills and skill effects to use.
You can use a nice variety of weapons just fine, but the skills that utilize those weapons are too limited.
Utility skills are a nice idea but over half of the skills are useless in practical application.
The great thing about GW1’s cross-class skill system was that you could combine the base concept of two different classes into a unique build and character. Effectiveness aside, Warrior-Necro had a completely different approach than Warrior-Ranger or Warrior-Elementalist for example. Some builds were obviously more effective than others, but a lot of people like to play the game for fun and while something might not be as effective it could still do the job. I recall using my Ritualist as a Rit/Necro at the end of Factions to fill in a last spot for the final mission and it worked great.
I haven’t really played the game for… a month now?
I Don’t Want To Kill The Same Bosses Over And Over Again – I don’t care if they revamp the boss encounter. It’s still killing the Sunless for the 100th kittening time.
I Want New Explorable Areas And Permanent Content – again, I don’t care if the characters in one zone have a little drama. I don’t care about them adding one measly explorable area. I want a LOT more to play in. Think EXPANSION.
Geez – if this is all the land in the world that characters have to live in then we’ve got a kitten load of inbreeding going on. Granted, Rurik was proof of that in GW1 but still…
The title pretty much sums up my GW2 gaming lately. I hit a point of dissatisfaction with the game a while ago and got onto these forums to add my voice to the growing discontent about the direction of the game in hopes that Anet will eventually correct itself.
I tried one or two Queen’s things and it didn’t make sense and I’m tired of reading articles and wikis on how to play the kittening game every two weeks.
I can’t kill another Claw, Shatterer, Boar, or Oak. Last night I tried to log in for 20 minutes to complete a Daily and five minutes later wondered why I bothered, so I read a book to my infant son instead.
I have everything I need for the Legendary Kudzu except the 250 of all 8 of the t6 materials and the precursor. So all I have left for Kudzu is a kittenload of farming for the t6 mats and lottery-ticket-winning-luck for the precursor. No, I’m not going to farm that much gold, either, and I tried but can’t get into playing the TP market.
SO… where the hell are the other maps? Where’s the REAL content? Where’s the high level kitten, because we’ve got a whole map out there. If I’m going to complete a Legendary then give me more maps to get t6 stuff on with something I haven’t killed too many times already. And let me play it at my own pace…
Maybe it will magically appear when I start playing again after my break. Maybe we’ll see new wvw and pve maps by 2014.
p.s. no, you can’t have my stuff.
Please check all that apply.

Before you assume that you won’t be fighting horses of monsters or face difficult challenges, I urge you to try the content when it releases. Just because its a festival doesn’t mean we’re telling the same story or using the same type of content.
It’s a problem of importance… hierarchy… priority, whatever you want to call it. Each update seems to have the same level of importance. After doing a couple in a row you start wondering “is this one really worth spending the time on?”
My interest in dailies is diminished and my Legendary quest is on hold. Please wake me when the Big One really comes worth all the hoopla…
If there’s something that has meat in it that has lasting value and fun re-playable content then I’ll clear some time for it. If not, there are other things to do.
P.S. I do think it’s nice that you keep aiming high with your efforts. It’s just a bit too much for some of us who aren’t plugged in all the time. I’m sure things will find a more player-friendly pace eventually.
I’d rather have full expansions that are completely thought out and finished than have a weak Living Story. The Molten Alliance was well done and then the ball got dropped.
Agree with the above posters. You know what else these trivial updates do? They water down the story too much. Every update seems to have the same importance, so you don’t know if you should really care about the next one or not.
Dragon Bash, Halloween and Wintersday are fun. I’m perfectly fine with them as annual events to break up the year and provide something other than the usual content.
I’m leveling my Guardian. Bazaar with its grind right after the Bash grind and then more mini games did me in, too.
A big part of playing a game is learning all about and exploring the game world and, as the “hero”, conquering all or most challenges. A lot of people like to play a game for fun in their free (non-work, non-family, non-outdoor-activity) time. Most games out there allow you to do this at your own pace and eventually you will be able to do everything and master the game world if you persist, however slowly.
With the LS, Anet is making us play on their timeline instead. Those of us who do not or cannot devote the time to play and keep track of constant changes and participate in new time-limited-one-time-only grinds are made to feel like we’re missing out on the gaming experience through all of the update notes and marketing stuff.
Without reading every wiki and update and crap, is there anything that I should give a hoot for in this Cutthrost Politics thing? Anything that would make trying to read all the wikis, etc. worth it?
I did all of the Dragon Bash stuff then we got hit with the Bazaar and then this. How the hell am I supposed to keep up with this and keep current with the game world if I have a real job and family? Instead of a reading a book should I just read game updates? Perhaps I’m just playing the wrong game.
It’s filler. Anet needs to get their Long Range Planning Committee together again so there’s a better flow to the game updates. Sure, some things happen with no reason (volcanoes erupt, massive earthquakes, invading Mongol Empires, etc. that don’t fit in any neatly planned schedule) but overall it’s been a bit sketchy in GW-Land.
Fighting the Dragons would be terrible for Living Story. If they made an Elder Dragon as temporary content, alot more people would be kitten ed. Its easier for people to feel ok losing temporary content when it feels less significant, or repeated, but not a major foe of Tyria.
They can at least have the Dragons do something (like decimate a zone… or half a zone…) that reminds us of that desperate need to defeat them in the first place. The actual Elder Dragon shouldn’t be temporary content , but dealing with the aftereffects of an Elder Dragon’s minions or assault could be.
I’m glad to see this topic, because I was going to make one.
This latest Bazaar update might have thrown me off the ship for a while. I like the general adjustments with achievements and the wvw blueprints being trade-able, etc.
But I’m getting tired of this fluff they’re calling a Living Story. I don’t think the primary storyline or the big bad Dragons matter any more. This content is to keep players occupied, time-filler. At the least, have an Elder Dragon decimate a zone for pete’s sake… or are they just sleeping?
At least there’s WvW to keep things interesting.
and what if you wait too long and hit an overflow server, where the time is completely different than the regular server?
p.s. this happened to me.

Gaile, I had this problem just now at 5 AM on 6/15/2013. First time trying to use it because I finally caved in and need more storage space.
First, the Confirm button didn’t work and I did this ‘change quantity’ workaround and the Confirm button was working.
Next, it’s telling me it can’t process my card even though my card’s 100% legit and all my info is good. Entered the stuff a few times now to be sure.
Not happy at all with the interface and experience. I really want to give up on the whole transaction but I’d really like that additional storage space in he bank.
Takes the “fun” out of the game when you’re told an event would happen at a certain time and it doesn’t. Takes “fun” out of the game when you can’t be glued to the PC when you have other things you need to do in real life.
It’s easy to do a lot of stuff in real life and be a gamer, but not when there are scheduled events you have to be logged in for to attend and get achievements in, and then the events don’t happen.
Oh, and you can’t leave LA for fear of going into overflow where time runs differently…
Customer Complaint. This is poorly done. I go to LA in time for fireworks and get put into Overflow. Overflow has a different time than the regular or something like that. I missed it in the regular. Got a house wife and kid, etc. I can’t be glued to the PC all weekend and was looking forward to doing this tonight. Sync up your servers or something.
heck, I’d just like four different maps… would be great if it was four different maps, each having a unique characteristic or some sort of environmental/atmospheric difference. To take that a step further, have them relate to each other somehow so that controlling one has a real effect on the others so you have a reason to have people fighting in each of the four realms.

Storm Bluff Isle, Build: 17121, Error Code: 42:6:3:2158.
Was going from pve map into a story mode instance, got that error. Very annoying for my weekend to play uninterrupted, but at least I wasn’t in Arah or Fractals… that would just suck.
