I’ve salvaged over 900 rares in the last 48 hours and still get ~0.91 ectos per rare. Just as stated within a few weeks of release.
RNG is RNG. A sample size of 7 is useless in this case.
not trying to disagree with you but what sample size is useful ? and explain what the difference is between a sample size of 7 and the sample size of 900 is exactly?
I’m interested in what your response will be, I for one would like to know.
Like many others, things seem different know with regards to salvaging as well as drop rates, your insight would be most welcome.
thanks in advance for your response Grundle.7302
Not a chance lol.
Is there any chance you will elaborate?
I, for one, am interested in what your reasoning is for your opinion.
No chance of e-sport while PVP zones still have downed state IMO.
you mean “any” downed state- or just the current implementation?
I sort of like the downed state because it just adds another layer of strategy. It’s true that it is too easy for some situations to raise players… but so far we only have one style of play on a limited number of maps. There’s more variations for Fractals of the Mists than there are PvP maps
As far as I know, people are already expressing -with reasons- how much a single-player of an mmorpg this game feels like.
I don’t know how that would even come close to a definition of an e-sport.
ya the single player thingie is good and bad… i really do have fun playing with friends in this game or randomly helping other players- I guess other people feel this way too because i have certainly been rescued in hard fights by the kindness of random strangers who happened to be passing by lol
I was just wondering if Arenanet still wants this game to be an E-sport and if they are still promoting it to be an E-sport or have they totally shifted their goals.
age of conan
warhammer
world of warcraft
star wars: the old republic
Guild Wars 2? E-sport material? yes or no?
dungeon focused to improve cash shop revenue or E-sport in the making?
opinions are great and I would love to hear your opinion, facts would be nice if you could present your argument with citations and references that would be great,- even links to support your assertions would be welcome.
I don’t know where this game is going but I remember Arenanet Employees saying they wanted it to be an E-sport game… I have not heard anything recently to support that (anything since the game was released).
we have some big content patches in the next few months and I am hoping they are good content patches from ARENANET.
New doesn’t mean good, if anything it’s proven the opposite…
It’s better than WoW
sorry new here is better than the same old same old
-healing is unrealistic and just a gimmic in WoW and other MMORPG’s
-tanking is beyond unrealistic and just a gimmic in WoW and other MMORPG’s
Everquest introduced this trinity nonsense and WoW did nothing new but just perpetuated this nonsense.
I agree that we haven’t seen the best but please don’t ask to regress… let this game do something to move forward… Areanet either willingly or was forced to go back on their own manifesto with the gear grind already >_< they don’t have to totally abuse their manifesto any more with the trinity nonsense other games have.
I played a healer and tank, It was always just a game gimmick- fun for that game but not necessary and not the best option for ANY game.
Gavbeorn’s WP in Cursed Shore.
In case someone comes across this thread- here’s a map of every karma vendor in cursed shore and a list of every item they sell:
http://dulfy.net/2012/10/03/gw2-cursed-shore-karma-vendor-list/
thanks! I did use one of those scrolls but didn’t know logging on with various toons would help. very cool
Just got a warrior and guardian to 80 and used crafting so I had a lot of “leftovers” and then I’ve accumulated a lot of ugly socks and sweaters :P
I need more inventory! thanks for the info!
anyone done this and able to share some tips? I just created a guild during Wintersday and played in WvW to get the kills for the monthly.
I was wondering if someone has done the upgrades needed for the guild bank and had some tips to share.
i just asked that too

thank you! got my warrior and gaurdian both to 80 today woot woot
kind of ignored gear pretty much up until now :P been doing a lot of dragon killin O_O
where did you get yours?
Open world! And, thank you OP for asking :-)
thank you for thanking me
not that it is indicative of the entire population but I’m surprised that such an overwhelming majority who have responded favor the open world play over dungeons.
I like to dungeons when I want but the best times I’ve had are running around free in the world and lingering or moving on whenever I want.
and I love the music in this game
If dungeons were more like the ones featured in Baldurs Gate, or even DDO I would like them a lot more.
But as it is open world content is far more interesting to me, it would be interesting to see a large open-world dungeon featured, why do dungeons always have to be instanced these days?
Ultima Online had dungeons that were not instanced (in September 1997)… damn that game was fun when I played it the day it was released and for a year or so after it…then real life happened…
I generally prefer open. Despite this being an MMO, I don’t really like playing with people all that much. Terribly unreliable.
sometimes though I like MMO’s for fighting other people instead of playing “with” them lol
I do like the non-grouping-cooperating though in this game- no tag, no need to party etc
leveling up new characters I often find an event I have done before but with far less players around…sometimes things just click and without a word being said you can win a tough fight. Try it again later and the people don’t cooperate and you haven’t a chance at success.
Overall, I’ve enjoyed it and the times when players actually do come together for a victory it’s a rewarding experience.
@Mahaedros
I will play no matter what, I love the game.
Just saying I would be tickled pink if we had a solo dungeon that could be done at an individuals pace =D
I’ve definitely always liked the idea and my spin on it is that I would like to see profession(class) specific solo dungeons that were a test of your mastery of that particular profession(class). Maybe to the point of doing them naked or geared in specific armor/weapons…the only way to complete it would be to learn your characters specific abilities and use them appropriately at the right times with challenges tailored to those abilities.
ya I agree with you, I guess I just like hearing what other MMORPG players consider more “more fun.”
rewards are more fun
doing what you want to do without waiting is more fun
which more fun do you prefer more?
This is a tough one to answer.
I like playing in the open world because I can go at my own pace, explore and see things I havent come across yet, even on my second level 80.
Then again, I really like loot and if you want the phat lootz you gotta do dungeons/fractals. Rare and Exotic drops in the world are just that, Rare! So I like dungeons just to get the loot.
Now, if they ever implement a solo dungeon, I will be happier than a pig in…..well you know the rest. =D
keep up the great work Anet!
oh dear… Are you saying you, at the moment, are playing more for the rewards than fun?
not trying to rehash some of the recent debates regarding changes made to the game…that pot has been stirred enough(and I respect people on both sides who have debated the topic).
if solo dungeons (or whatever it is you most wish for…) was implemented would you still do it even if it was not the most rewarding and delivering the “phat lootz”?
I kind of think that GW2 would not be better with a PTR. I’m all for less bugs but the lack of raids as the major draw for the game seems to mean that there is not as great of a need for a PTR.
In WoW, the PTR was just another way for players to not “earn” a victory over content and avoid figuring things out for themselves. WoW seemed like as close as gaming can get to watching a movie as entertainment.
I don’t think it’s fun to follow a guide or watch a video before doing something dozens of times.
Why not just have both have more open and and dungeons there is room for both. The big problem with open is getting a tag (putting high enofe dmg on the mob) on a mob this is the same problem in many pure open world games such as FF11 where tagging or calming a mob was EVERYTHING in that game.
Are you saying you like dungeons better in GW2?
As far as having more of both, yes please! As long as the massive new content additions we’re hearing about are well done then I’ll feel better about this game.
By the way, I bought this game for the PvP and was pleasantly surprised (initially) about how much fun the PvE has been in GW2. I gotta say I am more pleased with the open world PvE though.
I didn’t mention that I haven’t reached 100% map exploration on my 80, been playing 8 characters and having fun switching back and forth…
I spend a lot of time killing dragons
(please add more!! ! !!)
I have to say that the mad king dungeon and the mad king labyrinth were my favorites so far
Forums are a minority. They do not represent the majority.
The majority should be considered a tallied consensus of opinions throughout the internet, in real life, and the likes. Forums are always filled to the brim with miserable, poisonous players who almost always have content lacking complaints about anything they can find that didn’t match their standards. So they make threads that decay and poison the views of others in multiple aspects; they usually lack any constructive criticism.
If I’m at all wrong, (as these forums are filled with the biggest bunch of complaining, poetic goons) (It’s worse than the EVE Online forums) I feel bad for the gaming industry, because they’ve begun to cater to a bunch of kittening carebears.
It sounds like you are doing what you complain about others doing
Before you say anything else, please say at the top of your post if you like Dungeons better or the open world better in GW2 (well, do what you want but I hope you at least consider answering this before you give your opinions/comments/explanations
thanks!)
I’d have to say I like open world in GW2 better than the dungeons. Not exclusively because of dynamic events- which I do like- but just the overall experience of exploring and running around the big world of Tyria.
My enjoyment of the open world has taken a hit with some of the recent changes, but I still love the world and the music and the way everything looks.
Dungeons are fun, especially when I do them with friends. For me, they aren’t as fun as the open world + exploration etc.
I think I explained it best to a friend a while back… no matter what plans I have or how much I want to complete a zone 100% that particular day, I can still just get swept away and run off into a neighboring zone and go explore and find a bunch of fun things. I enjoy being a leaf carried by wherever the Tyrian winds take me :P
oh and, Skrittsburg caught me totally off guard
I loved discovering that place (and a lot of other places too).
Have you tried Skyrim?
Jokes aside, you’re asking for solo content in a massively multiplayer online game.
Ya OP- it’s massively multiplayer, so you and 4 others go run fractals over and over
Massive
It’s interesting to see how differently two people react to the statement by ekimsfree.9406:
How do you quit something you’re not obligated to play?
No contract, no sub. Play, don’t play, it’s not a big deal. Drama Queens.Soo true.
and
How do you quit something you’re not obligated to play?
No contract, no sub. Play, don’t play, it’s not a big deal. Drama Queens. The same way you can comment on a thread and add NOTHING to the discussion save for stating a moot point that’s as obvious as day. Because they’re entitled to their opinions, only most have the common decency to in fact offer said opinions in respectful manners. Same cannot be said for you, also by posting in such a rude manner into a perfectly rational discussion and as stated add nothing to it, you in fact prove that you are posting for the sole purpose of being dramatic.
You’re projecting the drama queen issue, because you’re guilty of it yourself clearly.
I wanted to quote both responses because, just as ThePainTrain expressed his agreement with ekimsfree, I wanted to express my agreement with the response made by Hellkaiser.
I believe the term “drama queens” was intended as an insult, and I believe that insults are not necessary in the forums. I enjoyed reading hellkaiser’s response (which is part of a longer post he makes earlier in this thread) but the other posts reminded me of other MMOs forums.
People on both sides of the issue are emotional. I enjoy reading the debate, I’d like to see it without insults.
…
I already feel that the game is trying to force me to do fractals as that seems to be the only way to get a decent income. It shouldnt need a monthly on top of that.
I feel this is what I was trying to say earlier in the thread.
I was surprised to hear that people had similar disdain for the WvW portion of the monthly. I’m glad some players responded and expressed their views because I had no idea before hand that players felt that way about WvW.
Also, there were some good points made about improving the monthly achievement by adding choices that players can pursue certain areas that they enjoy instead of having a set-in-stone list of things they must do.
I have no problem with Fractals being in the game and I am glad that certain players enjoy them. I don’t.
Fotm have the best rewards, the best gear drops and yet again they are required for the monthly achievement.
I’d rather be able to choose what I want to do for the monthly reward than having Fractals shoved down my throat again…and having many other areas of the game neglected by Anet. (including bugs that have been around since beta).
Please remove everything and just give me the reward since I don’t like doing anything.
On a more serious note, just because the monthly has you do some things doesn’t mean that’s all that you have to do. Completing 7 fractals is very easy and there’s plenty of time to do things the rest of the month.
Frequent Fractals was in last month’s monthly achievement
Grinding that is not fun…
Variety is better and of course 7 fractals is very easy, lets have something else for the monthly achievement besides Fractals, which are the better rewarded than anything else in the game currently already…
anyways, I apologize, I’m really really tired and probably heading to bed.
Thanks for the conversation on this topic everyone. Good luck and have fun.
Why not?
What makes any other criteria more worthy of being part of the monthly achievement than any other criteria?
Suffice it to say that there are people who don’t do fractals, and there are those who don’t participate in WvW. Having these be part of the monthly achievement encourages both camps to move out of their comfort zones and try out different things.
different things would be great, there just seems to be an over emphasis on fractals
WvW is the reason I bought this game but I ended up loving the pve in GW2 because up until recently it was an unfettered do-what-you-want-whenever-and-whereever-you want to do it experience.
Personally, I’ve just been leveling alts of different professions and had an amazing amount of fun.
Fractals are not something I want to do over and over and over and over and over and over and over again and since I don’t have a the luxury of being able to play for hours uninterrupted, I play when I can.
Let’s be honest about the grind in this game: players want to obtain things, Arenanet wants to delay the players from obtaining what the players want to obtain and they implement gold sinks and diminishing returns. Loot is inferior from everything except Fotm. Gear stats obtained from everything but Fotm is inferior. Why is there an extra reward and extra incentive to run Fotm if so many players are going to do it anyway(i.e. monthly achievement for frequent fractals…)? Gold sinks are implemented keep the game’s economy in check…why throw more rewards at fractals that players are doing already?
What are you on about with the monthly not rewarding players doing a variety of things? Only 1/4 of the monthly objectives is fractal runs, the others are WvW kills and things related to seasonal events or content patches.
why is it necessary to have the monthly achievement reward and encourage fractals? There is a big incentive to do fractals already, it’s not necessary to encourage funneling players into only one aspect of the game.
Frequent Fractals was in the November monthly achievement.
People that bought the game like to do different things in the game and GW2 has a tremendous amount of things to do besides sitting in Lion’s Arch spamming for a fractal run.
Please remove WvW kills from the monthly then. Not interested in doing it.
You don’t HAVE to do the monthly.
thanks for your response, It’s nice to hear what people are interested in or not interested in for sure.
Fractals were in the monthly last month and I didn’t HAVE to do the monthly so I didn’t do the monthly…
now the monthly achievment has Frequent Fractals again
a large percentage of the player base is focusing on fractals so why do they continue to be part of the monthly achievement?
huge areas of the game are being ignored due to fractals so why not reward players for doing a variety of things instead of narrowing activities to one aspect of the game?
not interested in doing them and there are already enough reasons people do them
Lion’s Arch map chat used to be fun but now it is nothing but “LFG FotMxx”
this is not a complaint about fractals being added or ascended gear or manifestos… please just remove the Frequent Fractals from the monthly achievement
I’m not quitting GW2, it’s just too much fun. I love this game.
I’m just not happy with these events that are only available for a few days…or less.
I had to attend a funeral and I had to work for the lost shores events so I have no experience of it and don’t know if it was good or bad, however I love the effort that was put forth by Anet, I just wish it was not available for a limited amount of time.
I loved the Halloween Mad King’s Labyrinth and the Dungeon. I would have liked to spend more time doing them before they went away.
The Clock Tower during Halloween and all the new Jumping Puzzles are really meh…but to each his own. I paid $60 for an MMORPG, not super mario brothers, so I really don’t have anything against jumping puzzles, I only do them because they are there- they are not MMORPG content really, but that’s just my opinion. I’d much rather see more RPG than jumping puzzles- but again that’s just my opinion- I’m sorry If anyone does not agree with me. There are tons of other games that are not MMORPG’s that have jumping puzzles… I’ve been happy with other MMORPGs that don’t put as much time and effort into jumping puzzles, and GW2 has repeatedly said that they want to be a triple A MMORPG…. I cannot say that the rest of GW2 is flawless, so I am unhappy with the amount of time Anet has devoted to jumping puzzles… I’ll still do the jumping puzzles, but it’s just not something I purchase an MMORPG for…again that’s just my opinion, really sorry to the readers of this forum who think jumping puzzles are MMORPG content…
I’ve read about people complaining about certain drops or gear being available only during this limited time.
I’d like to keep this thread on topic- letting Anet know that some players would like to see events that last longer than a few days.
Would it be possible for players that respond on these forums who wish to respond to other aspects of the events to make their opinions known in a different forum thread? Anyone can begin a new forum topic just like I did with this one.
I’d like to let Anet know what people think about having content availble for short periods of time {lets be clear- I’m not referring to the one-time events, like the Mad King himself appearing in place of the Lion’s Arch statue (that was fine- I wasn’t able to be there for it but I watched it later on youtube)}.
candy corn?
ToT bags?
what are you going to do with all your Halloween schtufff?
This would be similar to another game I played before this (RoM, Siege War). I really liked playing it. Would be great if they could do this. There needs to be more Guild vs. Guild content.
I agree, there should be Guild vs Guild Content added.
I would love to see a siege battle done correctly by Arenanet as well!
I think this could be broken into two pvp matches..
One that had a certain amount of rounds of one team defending and one team attacking and switching off between rounds.. where victory was decided either by the attackers killing off the guild lord or the defenders lasting through whatever timer was running.
The other would be having 2 castles and the first guild that has their guild lord killed loses.. that might be interesting.. forcing each group to have both an offensive and defensive group.. or they could try all one or the other.. the timer on this one would be longer and if the allotted time ran out the victor would be declared as whoever had the most enemy kills… this adds some interesting game play as you could amass a sizable amount of enemy kills only to lose the game at the last second as the enemy rushed you and took out your guild lord.
great ideas dd=d)
today is October 11.
If you were to legitimately buy gems today from the Black Lion Trading post, what is the most amount of gold you could get with your gem purchase?
…i’m having a debate with a friend on this topic
thanks in advance for replies
any and all strategies for maximizing your purchase are most welcome
one castle, one team defends one team attacks
guild vs guild would be even more fun
O_O
hey wanna buy some gold?
Sure! I’ll give you… 1 brown coin for 5 yellow ones, how does that sound?
I think your joke sounds funny.
However, when reports are sent about an account which is actively spamming gold selling and nothing is being done, that’s really annoying

gold spamm is out of control
something must be done
please consider this suggestion:
one map with one castle and let two guilds fight over it- one defending and one attacking.
Everyone loved the siege of Helm’s Deep in the Two Towers right? That’s would I would love to see in a game and since WvW turned out so well I think Anet could pull off this type of pvp map.
A proper siege with ladders and all would be great. I absolutely love WvW and I am having a blast in Spvp, I just wish there was something in between- maybe 50 players on each team or maybe the attackers get a few more on their side since the defense has an advantage.
I’ve never seen a good siege battle map in an MMO where the focus is on a single castle. There was a game called Siege developed by Mindcraft in 1992 for the PC/MS-DOS. It was actually really fun.
http://en.wikipedia....ge_
I guess it’s abaondonware now http://www.myabandon.../game/siege-1i8
that’s what I would like to see in GW2, it would make a game that is already great even better
plus, guilds fighting against other guilds over a castle just seems right in a game called Guild Wars (2)
all i really hope is that there is no limit to the amount of ppl i can have chat blocked as that list is getting mighty long.
i love the game having a great time playing
all the gold spam reminds me of diablo 3 or wow, and it makes me want to throw up
i was hoping gems for gold would eliminate gold seller spam
hey wanna buy some gold?
i would rather buy gems to get gold
all kidding aside, there is a ton of gold selling spam going on. Many of these could be from hacked accounts and I keep seeing the same names spamming over and over.
I report and block so many but there are still more advertising gold selling sites
i don’t know about other servers but gold spammers are non-stop on my server…
I report them and if i see them again i block them but holy crap there are too many gold selling spam all the time.
I think in the short term it would be best if Anet would devote some employees to banning accounts, if you can’t spare tech employee hire anyone off the street to do it because the gold selling spam is pretty blatant and it should be an easy task to ban these repeat offenders.
Thanks and please do this fast
