Can’t believe this freaking bug is still going on… come on arenanet :/ Just took Bravost and then Henge of Denravi keep in Eternal Battlegrounds today and got credit for neither. I killed guards at both and was in the cap circle for both, no credit. Seriously? Like what the hell lol…

For camps I can look the other way. Not giving players freaking credit for taking towers and keeps? Come on.

Ugh this bug… holy crap. Second time it’s happened during marionette fight. Ugh lol I can use all my instant utility skills but its still really annoying, I even waypointed somewhere far away enough that I got a loading screen, but it was the same zone. I guess downed, relogging and possibly changing maps are the only ways to “fix” this stupid bug ?

Jesus Christ, getting PMs now from kids trying to be e-thugs. Lemme clarify the situation as it went down for some of you who just don’t get it:

So all I heard about reaching the story instance was that you had to participate in the marionette boss encounter and you could get there. After the fight, I actually did check the Living World orange star thing under Origins of Madness and the second one down did say something about going to Lion’s Arch. I thought okay, cool. I want to leave THIS CHARACTER currently in LORNAR’S PASS right here. I hopped on my OTHER CHARACTER who happened to be in LION’S ARCH to find the story instance. Spent many a minute running everywhere Living World crap usually is in Lion’s Arch, found nothing. Checked the upper-right tab again, and it said something about going to Lornar’s pass to stop the weapon test. Went back to the FIRST CHARACTER still at Lornar’s and since I’d just checked the Living World tab and hadn’t got any in-game mail or other notification, wondered what the hell was going on. I talked to all the npc’s, nothing. Went back to my other character in Lion’s Arch, still nothing.

Long story short, so much for the intuitive idea that’s worked pretty much every single freaking release previously of, you know, having one character where all the stuff is going down and another character in, usually LA because that’s the general hub for stuff, so that you have access to everything without having to way point around everywhere on the same character all the darn time. It saves A LOT on way point travel costs because hey, guess what? It doesn’t cost you money to log out from one character and log in to another who are in two different locations that you would otherwise have to pay in-game currency to travel between! Imagine that!

Just wanted to clear that bit up in case any more kids try to play cute in my inbox.

Meh =\ and yeah, even though I spent half as long inside the story instance as I did trying to find the freaking thing, it was pretty cool and I enjoyed it. Also the marionette boss fight is simply awesome because failure actually means something on epic proportions. While I was doing the fight I thought to myself “Hey, it would be really cool if the superweapon actually activated if we fail” and it did. No sarcasm, it’s nice having failure not just be the big bad guy disappears in thin air, seriously.

Also, kittenedly. That’s actually pretty funny

More like obnoxiously frustrating regressions. Especially after watching Wooden Potatoes’ youtube video about the new update, saying how he liked the new way Arenanet presents Living World directives to players.

So first you get a mail which gives you the gist of things as usual which is cool and all, but the absolutely freaking ridiculous thing is, I kept hearing about this new story instance in LA. Makes sense, to introduce this random Taimi character that they introduced to appease the Asura fans, amongst other things. But why the hell did they not send another in-game mail to your character after participating in the marionette fight to let you as the player know about the story instance and how to get there? I swear to God, it was like an absolute conspiracy. No mail telling us about the story instance, and I even searched all around Lion’s Arch on a character I had stationed there. Then, after thirty minutes of running around and switching characters, you sneaky kittens changed the message in the bottom Living World box in the upper right to allude to the story instance, and even show a waypoint.

What. The. Hell. Seriously Arenanet? Not even going to give the players an in-game mail to tell us about the story instance you spent so much voice acting to create? Not even going to give us a mail TELLING us WHERE TO FIND the stupid text box that you have to click to show you WHERE to go? Good Lord, I haven’t been this frustrated with an update since— nope, this has got to be the most kittenedly un-intuitive “improvement” I can think of.

Arenanet, I love you guys and I love this game, but for the love of all that’s good in the world, don’t make your game more obnoxious to play, and seriously, don’t try to hide your story instance from players. I still can’t believe we don’t get a mail to our character that participated in the marionette fight that says “Hey, meet up with your buds in Lion’s Arch for some cool story!” Nope. Not a kitten word like that. And it took me half an hour to find out where the hidden instructions were because it’s intuitive to have a character near the boss to do the event, and another character in Lion’s Arch (or wherever else the other Living World content may be) to explore the new content. While I can understand why you’d want players to have experienced the world boss first, it’s absolutely inexcusable why it’s so obnoxiously subtle how to find your way to the story instance.

Keep on keeping on, and keep off making the game frustrating with these regressive changes.

in Snowball Mayhem towards the end of a match, and when said match finished I received no bonus chest for playing the game. What. (and I even had the highest score on my losing team. hooray.)

Arenanet, I don’t believe I’ve ever said this before and really meant it, but you guys seriously screwed up. Tell me how a system that randomly punishes you for playing the freaking game is a good idea. I want to hear it. This is exactly the sort of obnoxious nonsense that encourages players (me) to troll and screw around because hey, if the autobalance thing comes up and you don’t volunteer, el oh el. Now I just abuse the system and always volunteer then mess around until the game is over because I’m guaranteed the winner’s chest. Sigh.

Makes you wonder, why bother when the system itself discourages you from trying?

P.S.: Snowball Mayhem is really a lot of fun, but your system for auto-reassigning classes randomly when jumping down is just silly. I don’t care that you want to encourage a balanced mix of classes, I just jump back up and pick the class I wanted. If you really wanted to enforce this in a meaningful way, you’d make it so you couldn’t change your class after you got reassigned. Also currently venting by stunlocking people with Snowroll, it’s actually really amusing you should try it.

tl;dr – Autobalancing? Great system that every game should have. Not giving rewards when autobalanced that everyone else gets? omgwtfidonteven…

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

in CDI

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

Here is my opinion on Character Progression.
Be it Horizontal or Vertical progression, Guild Wars 2 has a fundamental flaw:
The fact that I have to discard almost everything I previously worked hard for.

I honestly dont mind Vertical Progression in this or any game. What I mind the most is discarding what I worked so hard for, or giving up something forever.
Here is a “how bad it could be” scenario:
You currently have Endure Pain equipped on your Warrior. You can replace Endure Pain by Dolyak Signet on your skill bar, but then you cannot use Endure Pain ever again unless you remake your whole character. Does Permanent choices of skill sound cool to you? No. It’s ridiculous, right?
I feel about the 3 above-mentioned examples are as ridiculous as this one.

This doesn’t make any sense. Skills are an integral part of the character that can never be “reset” in this manner; comparing that to equipment upgrading is just silly lmao. Dude, think about it. If you didn’t have to “replace” all that hard-earned exotic gear you have, it would make progression way too easy. Everyone would be laughing at how simple progression would be if you could salvage an exotic and get all the materials you spent making it back, as an example. That’s horrible game design and you would realize how flawed a game like that would be if such a system existed.

To those who think this dilemma about having to “replace” your hard-earned progression is bad, just think about the most popular MMO: World of Warcraft. That’s EXACTLY what all those millions of players do every time there’s a new freaking patch! So to say that having resets of your progression is bad game design is nothing short of laughably silly. Think about it. Every time there’s a new freaking patch in World of Warcraft, everyone has to replace ALL their gear from a new raid. And that game design has worked JUST FINE for Blizzard. I rest my case.

I don’t know how to make this any clearer, some form of a reset is an essential part of making progression meaningful. You’re welcome to keep your hard-earned goodies, that’s perfectly fine, but if you want to PROGRESS the only point is moving FORWARD. Hence progressing. Which would be meaningless if you could finish “progressing” in the time span of a Saturday afternoon, or if you could re-use every freaking skin you got for free. Skins would be meaningless because everything would be in infinite supply. = BAD.

Now that, sir, is horrible game design and would truly make for an unsatisfyingly miserable experience. Sigh. Ugh why do I even bother coming on the forums when there are just so many people who don’t even think about the implications of their own suggestions. Seriously guys, if you think something is stupid and you have the “perfect solution”, actually spend a few minutes thinking about what you’re saying. More often then not you’ll find gaping holes in these criticisms, just as I’ve pointed out.

I don’t know how you Arenanet guys manage wading through a bunch of nonsense on a daily basis, but for real hats off to you haha.

More on-topic and my own thoughts: the new healing skills in the recent update are amazing. And I dunno how you guys are gonna do it, but I hope you bring out the new traits and skills that were mentioned a while back. I think that would be one of the more interesting parts about character progression for a lot of people: experimenting with new builds, abilities, gear sets, that sort of thing. To that end, as far as I’m concerned, acquiring ascended gear really is in a good spot right now. Don’t see any huge need to change anything, except I must say converting the excess bloodstone dust/bricks into bonus moolah would always be welcome

Also in response to people upset about the Fractal reset, yeah honestly Arenanet the best middleground would be to raise your highest planned fractal level and start Fractal Instability at level 50. Or maybe make it optional at level 30, and between 30 and 50 if you choose to have instability you progress 2 levels of difficulty for each run or something like that. I’m pretty surprised you guys didn’t do something along those lines that would keep many more people much, much happier.

Legendary Hallucination!

Mal.1670

My personal highlight of the new Living World update was seeing Champion Hallucinations running around the toxic champs. Something about that just seemed hilarious, the fact that everyone loves killing champs for the loot but hallucinations don’t drop any (obviously) but as I was thinking today, why stop there? With hallucinations like these in the game the possibilities are endless, so for starters why not legendary hallucinations?

The legendary hallucination, in my opinion, would ideally be a tiny rabbit hopping around at a slow speed but instantly dealing ridiculous melee damage. For hilarity’s sake, maybe even like the legendary defenders in WvW that instantly one-shot you with any attack. The possibilities are endless and I know so many players would love to see something silly, crazy and scary like this. Arenanet is chock-full of endless creativity so I’d like to see some more along these lines!!

Solo Dungeons?

I’ve spent less time in dungeons than doing anything else in the game, simply because that 5-man requirement is just ugh… restricting? I would absolutely love to have solo dungeons, dungeons specifically scaled for just one person. I mean come on, they did that with Scarlet’s Funhouse. I solo’d that no problem and I’m not willing to believe that it was the same difficulty for 5 as it was for 1. Same concept.

BL Ruins are an insult to the game.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

For the first time since they’ve been released today we have a personal incentive to go out and take borderlands bloodlust ruins! There’s a new daily achievement for sitting for a few minutes taking five of them! Since there’s never been any reason to bother with them before, I moseyed on over to one of the colored squares and sat in it. And waited.

And waited. And watched the lil’ bar fill up as I sat there and waited. And that’s when it hit me: the borderlands ruins are an absolute insult to the game. The mechanic is boring and completely devoid of personal incentive because you don’t even get any event completion rewards for capturing them. Thinking back to what used to be, I want the 9 million krait and the lake back! Here’s why:

1. The system with the quaggan weather nodes was, if nothing else, active and engaging. To build them you had to hunt up pearls or actually play the game by killing krait. Once built, enemy nodes were a point of interest for passing zergs, camp raiding parties, and really anyone else in the area who wanted some reward for doing something in WvW
2. The center island mechanic was interesting because it gave purpose going through the middle of the map and involved killing stuff. Plus, depending on your build, not everyone could solo the dozens of krait that lurked about the place.
3. It’s a total pain going crossing the middle of borderlands now with 5 giant nothings that serve no purpose for a solo player because you might as well follow around your zerg and get oodles of loot, wxp and all that other good stuff.

The solution? Heck, no one has the perfect answer. But in my genuine opinion, a system combining what was lost and the new ruins mechanic would be a step in the direction. Instead of wasting your life standing in squares watching a bar fill with color, why not the goal of each ruin be to construct some structure of importance, kind of like the weather nodes. Except players would actively have to either spend supply, or perhaps kill nearby PvE mobs (earth elementals?) to get supplies they could use to help construct these things. It’s active, engaging, has you doing something related to playing the game, and ideally should reward the player upon successfully “capturing” the ruins by building the structure.

Say then the goal for enemies is to destroy the structure. Zerg or divide and conquer? And if players had to make a choice of hey, do we spend our supply now or hunt nearby monsters to gather supplies (maybe not even inventory items like pearls but bundles) to build it? And unlike the weather node system, worlds shouldn’t lose control over a ruin after having a structure destroyed, but a capture circle should come up which, as long as a defender stayed in it, would remain in control over the world that built it. If only enemies are in the circle within seconds control of the point is lost and a neutral structural foundation is spawned for the attackers to get to work on. Just my own idea that would bring more engaging, active gameplay than what we have now.

If nothing else, the ruins mechanic is boring, pointless and disappointing in every way possible. I love this game and I’m going to keep playing WvW for a long time to come, which is why I want a better experience than what we’re being given now. Thing is, as it stands there’s more reason than ever to stay in Eternal Battlegrounds for fun and goodies.

Thoughts?

A Solution to GvG and more:

Custom battlegrounds.

We can make custom pvp arenas, why not custom open-field “battleground” arenas? No rules, no time limit, no score, no messing with the rest of WvW, just a bunch of people and another bunch of people doing whatever the heck they want. I’m not sure where it would be best to attach it, because if it were to be added with sPvP, well not all WvW’ers have cool decked out sPvP gear, plus things like legendaries and stuff people like to show off but wouldn’t be able to in sPvP.

Arenanet, you guys like to talk about the potential for Guild Wars 2 becoming an esport. You’re doing a good job with 5v5 arena tournaments, but heck, I’m kinda surprised there are so many people into this Guild vs Guild thing. I’m not saying GvG has any potential to be an esport, obviously not that’s not the point no duh. But the thing is, if you want to make everyone happy and provide another outlet for competition that has a pretty darn good chance of drawing even more attention and strengthening another community in-game, I think there’s serious potential in this GvG thing. All that’s missing is a legitimate avenue to do it.

Half the terrain from the southern grassy borderlands hills could probably be copied and pasted and people would still be happy, people just need more creative outlets for doing what they love in a game they love. The end.

Thoughts?

(Personally I’ve never participated in a GvG and I kinda think it’s silly, but I think it’s even more silly that there are so many people throwing kitten around and whining about the “death” of GvG in relation to the bloodlust change. It’s just stupid and frustrating listening to people bashing a game they love and I hate seeing problems arise when there’s no reason for there to be a problem in the first place and such. Anyways, I thought about it for a few minutes and I came up with an interesting idea that would be a Godsend and actually pretty cool to many, many people. I’d even want to try this.)

Good Lord this is why I try to stay away from game forums; can’t even find anyone’s honest, intelligible opinion on the new bloodlust system. My God this is just ridiculous lol, some of you guys need to grow the heck up and get over it because you’re really just embarrassing yourselves.

Agree with the dev post about there being 2 leagues, it’s probably not going to work so great, in fact 3 leagues of 8 servers each would probably be a very happy balance but screw it lol we can see what it looks like after season 1 is done now won’t we? And the kids who say they uninstalled will come crawling back in due time.

WvW is far from dead or anywhere near dying, it boggles my mind how anyone could even say something so idiotically stupid.

It seems really strange that the only charge to Larcenous Strike is halving the boons it rips. Instead of damaging the support utility of s/d, why not increase the initiative cost to 3, reduce the initiative to 1 with the change or just reduce the high damage coeff? AFAIK most thieves aren’t even sword/dagger anyway, I didn’t think it was something that prevalent.

Part of why this probably hasn’t been implemented (and WON’T) is that each individual item you’re using/consuming (i.e. karma) doesn’t feel meaningful if you can just click two buttons to drink 200 bottles in a second. A huge part of Anet’s philosophy behind what they do is making these sorts of mechanics just feel significant and meaningful. A use-all button would destroy that.

Personally I would be in favor of the change because I totally get where you’re coming from, but I don’t see it happening.

My Molten Alliance Mining Pick, Consortium Harvesting Sickle and Chop-It-All Logging Axe are feeling very jealous right now that the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic makes noises when it gets used but they can’t! I don’t think this is fair, all infinite tools that we paid good gems for should show players some of their flair. They could even have their own personalities reflected in the sounds they make!

Molten Alliance Mining Pick could have a Russian accented guy making dredge-like lines about working for the good of the people, having an unbreakable will etc.

The Consortium Sickle could have a sassy female personality, and chastise the player every few uses for overworking her.

The Logging Axe could just make really loud sounds varying between a chainsaw, a car horn and an angry mob shouting. Also maybe like a bomb blowing up.

We can get the whole community in on this, guys tell me your thoughts on what kind of sounds/“dialogue” you want your infinite tools to say every time you swing them to get some good stuff out in the world!

I’m going to be frank, it’s nothing short of embarrassing that a convenience item from a microtransaction can negatively impact a player’s experience in-game. I don’t know who thought having that machine spam dialogue every single time you start salvaging anything was a good idea, but it sounds horrible, is repetitive and annoying, and it’s just plain idiotic in my opinion that there is no option to disable it (and ONLY it) from making its stupid sounds.

It hasn’t even been 2 days since I picked it up but it’s honestly so obnoxious that I’ve disabled all dialogue sounds from the game, which works to fix the problem at the cost of muting most other voices in the game that are usually really good and I would love to continue hearing! Arenanet, you guys gave new right-click options for legendaries to change their stats, why not a right-click option on items that make idiotic noises to turn them off? I’ve been playing this game practically non-stop since April and I feel that this is one of the greatest games ever made, but things like this that are pretty much only aggravating to players are just sad to see. Better yet, the infinite salvage kit shouldn’t even make noises at all, or you should give players a warning on the TP that it spouts crappy-sounding messages every time you scrap something. Better yet, why not give all the infinite tools dialogue? Oh boy, I could start a whole new thread with dialogue for those

So Arenanet, make it happen. Right-click option to toggle sound muting for items like this (can’t think of any others, but maybe in the future…?)

Capturing camps in WvW not giving credit

Earlier today I was running around solo capping camps in Bluevale and Bluewater Lowlands camps in WvW on Eredon Terrace’s and Northern Shiverpeak’s borderlands, and even though I was the only one standing in the capture circle when I captured the camp, I did not get event completion credit or any exp for capturing the camp. This happened to me twice within thirty minutes and I have no idea what’s going on. I’ve had this issue a few times in the past taking towers and keeps where even though I was within the circle, I didn’t get credit, but never with camps. Two times within an hour seems especially weird. Anyone experience this or have anything to add?

It’s especially obnoxious because it doesn’t even prevent capturing the objective, it just stops acknowledging event participation for some reason. Really weird and dumb honestly.
