Fantastic new map in visuals and design, best story arc this game has seen IMO. Please disable the random screams text pop-up and voice line when playing the new maps!

So what is with characters randomly screaming to themselves on the new maps? Happened in Bloodstone Fen and now Ember Bay. Aside from the fact that the random text box popup and voice line are pretty annoying, especially if you’re trying to play with the sound on, there hasn’t been ANY connection to the story to actually explain this whatsoever. I mean, you’d assume it could have something to do with being exposed to a lot of (unbound) magic in the area, but what that actually means for us is anyone’s guess. For all we’ve been told, we could go supersaiyan or jump to level 90 with the next patch. And that would be pretty hilarious.

Anyone have speculation on this random, unexplained part of LW? I like that ArenaNet isn’t afraid to try new things with their game, but I can’t say I’m particularly immersed by this dialogue proc hahaha

Exactly this, and now that Bloodstone Crystals are account-wide, there isn’t a whole lot of point to take alts to the map anyway. If you really want to, the scroll is the best investment, and it’s not too expensive.

UI Overlap: Pop-up and Reward icon

in WvW

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

The little reward track progress chest icon above the minimap in WvW still overlaps with the first pop-up chest you get. This can make clicking on the pop-up chest incredibly frustrating, especially if you miss and click the icon instead, which stupidly opens up a window that literally blocks you from opening the pop-up chest until you click on the icon AGAIN. I’m honestly surprised that this made it past testing and is still in the game lol, it’s pretty freaking silly IMO. And there’s no UI option to fix this problem that I’m aware of.

Can we get a quick and easy QoL cleanup to this? Please? <3

The Root Of The Problem

in WvW

Mal.1670

People play WvW because of its PvP element. Anet fail to treat it as a PvP mode. People leave. Anet are baffled.

Today I got hit for 9020 damage by a ranged auto-attack. That was fun. Since this patch failed to do anything positive for WvW, I’ll be taking an extended break from the game. Bye.

If you’re pure glass getting hit by pure glass, you do take a lot of damage. That’s how the game has been designed. You’ll have a better time building more toughness than complaining about changes that may or may not come.

With merged servers, there’s plenty of WvW population to keep the game active.

My biggest frustration with WvW updates is that they still haven’t fixed the position of that stupid reward track button over the minimap. It overlaps with the pop-up chest. Very not cool.

Fellow Tyrians/Commanders/Pooh-bahs, would you share a few words in memory of the deceased head salad Marshal Trahearne? A simple “RIP in peace” to honor him or “good riddance!” to dishonor will do.

Three issues with the recent WvW update:

in WvW

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

First, I’m a huge fan of the world merging and reward tracks. Now it feels like there are always people to play with even in the borderlands, and I’ve stepped back into WvW after almost a year. That said, I’ve noticed a few issues:

1. Sentries don’t seem to give WXP on kill, at least in the borderlands. I hope this is just a bug because it doesn’t make sense.

2. The new WvW reward icon on the upper-right corner of the minimap overlaps with the first pop-up chest you get for dailies, reward track progression, etc. And if you accidentally hover over the icon, the reward track info window blocks the chests so you have to move your mouse away and try all over again. Bleh. If the pop-up chests were moved up a bit above the minimap, that would be awesome.

3. Reward track progress being based on the 15 minute PPT timer. Isn’t this basically the exact kind of system that they just removed from the HoT maps?! I understand that time-gated rewards are designed to encourage you to stay in one map while you play, however this discourages you from joining another map that needs help fending off a big attack for instance as it resets your reward track progress, and also encourages AFKing when you’re done playing to milk the last bits of your participation. Not the best design as far as I can see it.

I disagree with this reward implementation, and IMHO it would be best overall to give reward track progress instantaneously when capturing objectives/whatever else grants participation currently instead of filling up a participation bar that grants reward progress over time for the two reasons I just mentioned.

I don’t frequent the forums so I’m not sure how many others share my sentiments. Thoughts?

Legendary weapons

Mal.1670

To the people saying it’s better to have more of the team working on content updates, I can see where you’re coming from. But legendary weapon releases ARE content updates. The time you spend in game working on that collection and the materials are the incentive to go back and replay the maps that maybe you haven’t touched since December. One would think the “legendary team” could make more than one legendary weapon in six months, but alas. It’s completely incorrect to say that legendary releases involve no new content updates. ArenaNet have always been excellent at motivating players to replay old content and still feel satisfied.

Also, combine this with the disappointingly infrequent content updates we do get. Broken promises + no desirable updates for the majority of the playerbase = not the best situation.

Super disappointed. It’s bad enough that Living World was sacrificed to push out raids. Now more content we were expecting to get with the expansion is just gone. While it must be a lot of work to implement collections for each legendary weapon, there needs to be some presented reconciliation to players who had their hopes up for this. If WP is talking about potentially leaving the game, you know something has gone horribly wrong. What the heck guys.

Definition of Pay2Win

in PvP

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

It’s possible the current elite specs will be released for free when we get new elite specs, or when the next expansion comes out. Until then, ANet is almost certainly not going to change their accessibility.

Also, I don’t ever remember people playing World of Warcraft complaining about this sort of argument; everyone just accepted that new expansions would come out, and you’d have to pay money to remain on the same playing field. It’s been a few years, and players of this game have gotten used to getting every update for free with no monthly subscription fee… that’s not a sustainable business model for an MMO, however.

Glass cannon strategy: exploit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

Really? This guy is almost certainly trolling, calling intended game behavior an “exploit” for questionably thought-out reasons and you’re afraid to get called out on that? He hasn’t even addressed the issue of the amount of DPS you lose running back to a boss after you die, or the fact that there is no competitive nature to world bosses in the first place and complaining about other players’ playstyles in a cooperative environment is needlessly toxic. And the community for the past few months has been toxic enough. Why post in the forums if you’re afraid of legitimate criticism? There are ridiculously outrageous posts I’ve seen that don’t even get a second glance. Sigh… these forums have always been home to toxic people complaining about inconsequential issues for hardly any justifiable reason.

Seriously, if you don’t know what the definition of exploit is and how it applies to this game or any other for that matter, it would help your argument a lot to use a more applicable word lol

[Suggestions] Future Elite Specializations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

Oh I’ve been wanting to say this for a while. Something that players might have missed is that all of the elite specs we saw introduced with HoT were either two-handed or offhand weapons. There were ZERO main hand weapon specializations added. Why? Perhaps two-handed and offhand weapons are fundamentally easier to design and safely incorporate into the meta. Perhaps there were other reasons we can only guess at.

Regardless, I would like nothing more than some of the next elite specializations to introduce new main hand weapons (especially for mesmers; we only have two!). Please consider.

I still don’t see the appeal of shared inventory slots, especially considering their price. The bank is already a giant shared inventory. They’re too expensive for their value that you get much cheaper from banks otherwise.

In-game timer for world bosses?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

The strangest part about this seasonal patch, IMO, is that we’ve received another world boss update and still have no reasonable, in-game method to find out exactly when it’s going to happen. To participate in the new Shatterer fight, you either have to wait up to over an hour in northern Blazeridge Steppes for the event to begin (ridiculously impractical), or you look at a third-party website’s boss timer to find out when it’s going to take place. Or you hear from someone else who checked a third-party website.

Is looking at fan sites for this information the intended expectation for players for the foreseeable future? I know ArenaNet has a lot on their hands, but if they revamp another world boss without adding some in-game system to notify players, I’m not going to blame anyone for being more than a little disappointed. How many years has it been since they established the world boss schedule?

Well, that’s one way to define power creep hahah. Really sounds like they’re going to be rebalancing some vanilla skills too, which is pretty awesome. And on the celestial amulet topic… it is very strong for so many builds. Theoretically PvP would be more strategic if you had to choose your 3-4 stats instead of taking a decent amount of all of them. I almost don’t want to say it since playing cele builds can be a lot of fun, but like some people are saying it might be better for the game if cele were removed.

Yeah, you must be new if you don’t realize that most of the players go to EotM for exp, WXP, gold, and/or karma. Well, there are better things you guys are probably working on anyway :P

Quite easily! If you do the Grawnk “quest”, you get a Wintersday tree in your home instance which you can harvest every day for a free present! You can also buy them on the trading post throughout the year, but the tree does give a slow, but stead supply of presents.

That’s great, so to get this achievement will only take 34 years

The Legend of the [Simple Table].

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

At last, our small yet mighty band of adventurers has finally completed its first [Simple Table]! And oh, what an accomplishment it was! What’s that, dear reader? Are you unfamiliar with the trials one must endure to behold the magnificent [Simple Table]? Then allow me to enlighten you, and do not let its name deceive you.

After looting the filthy beasts of the land for weeks on end and dumping hundreds of gold’s worth of quality goods into the hands of that greedy kitten treasurer, our tiny guild FINALLY amassed enough oiled sandpaper to summon forth the one and only Basic Decorations Merchant. We had heard tales of the dreadful prices he charged for his moldy, decrepit wooden furniture, but alas; we had dreamt of these so called decorations forming our own glorious “jumping puzzle.” And on a whim, our fearless guild leader took it upon himself to begin upgrading these “basic” furnishings into something one might call, fancier. Getting to work, he inspected the requirements for making nothing more than but a [Simple Table].

“omgwtf more linseed oil and sand,” cried out our leader in dismay. But his resolve was unbroken. After yet more reaping the land for its goods, he returned with the necessary materials for the wonderfully refurbished [Simple Table] we all wished to behold. And so it was done. And it disappeared.

He searched his pockets, and his backpack. He peered into the guild vaults, lest it have teleported itself into its place. But it was all for naught. Not even the greedy kitten treasurer had swiped the [Simple Table] from our leader. And then it came to me: peering into that strange processing machine, I saw it: the [Simple Table]!! Ahah, you sneaky little devil. I reached out to grab it.

And the machine turned on. Three hours, it read. All that work, all that toil and labor to get to this point, but no. Three bloody hours it says. I turned to stare at my dear guildmate, dumbstruck.

Silence.

Then we laughed as we had never laughed before.

“what a joke,” he muttered indignantly. I nodded in agreement, looking upon the beautiful display of lights that shot above the processor taking its kitten good time doing god knows what to our beloved [Simple Table].

“so that’s where all the linseed oil went,” I offered with another laugh. “we spent all that for a three hour lightshow.”

Round and round the lights went, the most beautifully insulting projection of our wasted wealth. Dejected, and with no [Simple Table] to show for our efforts, our leader and I turned our backs on the whole kitten able notion, dreaming of the days long-gone of pumpkins and candy corn.

Eh, they’re kind of fun at first. The ones that aren’t the mushroom race. Getting EXP, loot and mastery points is satisfying. The leaderboards are buggy as hell though, and it defeats the purpose of a leaderboard if you can’t see who the freaking leaders are at all times. Which you can’t, unless you happen to be friends with the top 10 for some impossible reason. And even then, it often shows rank as 0. Sigh.

Getting silver in every adventure really isn’t too bad. Gold is obnoxious for some, but at least you don’t need all the mastery points either.

Is reaper raid viable?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

Viable? Most likely, yea.

Ideal? Probably not. Lots of classes can strip boons and vuln is super easy to stack with 10 people.

So if I joined groups with it I wouldn’t be instakicked right?

And I don’t see how tempest/chronomancer (the other classes I play) would be all that useful aside from occasional extra healing and alacrity respectively.

There’s no guarantee on being instakicked. People instakick viable classes all the time for all sorts of reasons. We’re in a community where a group will sit around in LFG for extra minutes instead of taking a class that would increase kill times by a few seconds.

Chronomancer is amazing for alacrity and time warp is pretty awesome as well. Tempest does beast DPS and can stack a lot of might through fire fields, but isn’t really a must-have for a group like a PS war, chronomancer, etc.

I have never encountered that situation in over two years of playing. In fact, we’re more in a community that is more hesitant to kick other players from groups than any other game I’ve played. That’s a good thing.

Guild Raid Testing

Mal.1670

Upon public release of our first raid wing today, DnT decided to go against the spirit of our relationship by promoting the speed with which they completed the raid wing without ensuring that those reading their comments were fully aware of the fact that they had been given early access.

I’m sorry, but did I just read that arena net is salty, because DnT showed the community that they could finish the raid quickly?

This is hilarious, both the fact that this is a problem at all, and specifically if you did not want someone to finish the raid quickly, why would you not change the design, to make that harder or impossible?

I’m not sure what I will make of this official statement, but truth be told it makes it seem like the issue here is arena nets design process and not a fault of DnT.

What part of toxic bragging and misleading statements regarding the difficulty of the raid don’t you understand? And do you not understand the purpose of beta testing? It’s not to throw out boss mechanics that are then changed later so that the testers have no advantage; they’re specifically invited to test the mechanics that WILL be a part of the game. So bragging about getting first when you’ve had weeks or however long to practice and test the encounter and clear it when everyone else is starting from scratch is lame and not in good spirit. That’s like finishing high school and bragging about understanding calculus to freshman who haven’t even started the class yet. Pointless elitism. Jesus Christ man how is that not obvious come on spend some time thinking before you post this crap lol.

I disagree with having to buy an item to get a reward. That’s not a reward. It’s a thinly veiled gold sink. I also disagree with hiding core game content(high end fractals and their rewards) that was supposed to come out two years ago in the “Fractured Update” behind the HoT paywall. I shouldn’t need HoT masteries to do core GW2 content.

Fractals aren’t HoT content. If you added new HoT themed Fractals, that would be one thing. You didn’t. You took old content and put rewards behind HoT’s mastery system. That needs to change. Fractals and their rewards should all remain as core features seeing as they are core GW2 content.

It may seem scummy to not allow base game players to get Fractal masteries, but you have to keep in mind that they are not NECESSARY for doing fractals at all. Also, if you are an avid player interested in the game and all of its content, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be buying the expansion anyway.

Yeah, this is pretty ridiculous. It’s already obscene grinding 250 crystalline ore for a legendary, and having to spend it on WOODEN decorations? What the heck. With enough outcry they change their poor decisions; if people complain they will adjust this as well.
