Auto Loot Dosen't work on death...

Mal.1670

Gaile makes some really good points in this thread. The biggest issue with no loot on death is if you die in very hard to reach places before you can return to your corpse to get loot. This will happen to you if you die in an enemy tower in WvW and don’t release ASAP; if some members of your server at still alive killing other players that you get loot for, a bunch of bags will pile up around your corpse, and unless your commander goes back to that same tower and opens it up so you can run in and grab your loot, it’s gone.

However, if in the above example you instead waypoint to spawn and allies kill other players you damaged, you get ALL the same loot that you wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. That is the problem with the current no loot on death system. It’s not always about being dead and not participating, it’s about loot sitting in impossible to reach locations. If there was a faster way to waypoint without opening up the map or dragging the minimap, that would reduce the time spent dead where you’d accumulate unobtainable loot.

Timers will always be a problem.

Mal.1670

First off, shoutout to the devs who fixed Skirmish Chests. Seriously, thank you.

Okay, timers. Do you guys remember that huge patch to the Heart of Thorns maps that changed map rewards from a meta event participation system to getting loot on doing events? When HoT came out, you could load up on participation from doing events and AFK to get loot chest popups until your participation ran out (at least in Verdant Brink). Sound familiar? Exactly, which is why I always found it weird that ANet chose this exact system for reward tracks in WvW.

Every rewards system has its pros and cons. For timers, they’re either too lenient and people can AFK for extra rewards, or excessively draconian, and the forums light up. In general, players are gonna be happier with the former, but really guys. Why is there even a timer for rewards in the first place?

Take a note from the HoT maps: loot on event completion = rewards based on participation. Why can’t this work in WvW? The game mode is all about capturing and holding objectives, and every time that happens, you get a medal saying you finished an event. That’s the time to give reward track points and pip progress! Ideally each event would give a small amount of reward track points based on how difficult it is, like how WXP is rewarded, so you’d get just as much if not more than 200 reward track points (without an EXP booster) every five minutes for actively following a commander, roamer with Outnumbered buff, or with shared squad participation.

As for pips, honestly there’s always going to be an issue here with bonus pips based on WvW rank, as many have pointed out already. Instead of pips in WvW, you could get something like “Skirmish Points” on event completion to fulfill the same function but allow incremental progress instead of one flat payout every tick. This system also allows for a smaller bonus based on WvW rank (10-20% bonus Skirmish Points for each rank category, instead of 1 extra pip per category as it is now), instead of most of your pips coming from rank. We could theorycraft the specific numbers for days, but I’ll bet you ANet has the sort of analytics to better be able to tweak the numbers right.

Of course this system isn’t perfect: roamers get less rewards, and long battles on offense might not give you any event credit. However, roamers have never gotten as much loot as people following a tag with a big group, and to make prolonged engagements worthwhile, towers, keeps, and SMC can give bonus reward track points and “Skirmish Points” based on their upgrade level upon capture (or number of dolyaks escorted to be precise). For what it’s worth, you might as well already be getting bonus WXP for flipping heavily defended objectives, right?

tl;dr: Timers will always be a problem. Make reward track points and pip progress tied to event completion (like karma and most WXP) to reward active play and make AFKing worthless.

Decay timer?!?! Are you kidding!

Mal.1670

There is ALWAYS going to be a problem with rewards set on a fixed timer. Either it’s “too generous” and people afk for extra rewards, or it’s stupidly unfair, and you get threads like these. In general, players are gonna appreciate when it’s more towards the former than the latter, but really guys. Why is there even a timer in the first place?

Make reward track points and pip gain like the WXP system: you get them INSTANTLY. A few reward track points every time you gain WXP based on what you’re doing, increased by EXP boosters as it works currently, and also a new bar that tracks “pip points”. Get enough and you get a pip, with bonus points based on outnumbered, WvW rank, etc. Boom, you’re REWARDED FOR ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING and get nothing for afking.

IMHO without reward track points and pip progress being instant like WXP, there’s always going to be this issue of the timer being too lenient or too harsh.

Every time you open the PvP interface window, the games by profession pie chart goes absolutely bonkers spinning out of control. Not only does this look ridiculous, but the graph used to just slightly spread out from a balanced distribution instead of doing a random, full 360 spinout. You can see this exact bug when you open the WvW window; the points per world pie chart goes crazy. What’s weird is that this only seems to happen the first time you open the WvW window each time you start up GW2; open the WvW window again and it’s fine like it used to be. Makes this mess seem like an obvious bug.

Please get your pie charts under control ANet, those graphs are going fast enough to get a ticket and it’s only a matter of time until someone calls the cops :P

Learn who to support as a commander and who not to.

If they are arbitrarily kicking people out of squads, follow a commander that doesn’t.

Soon, the more inclusive commander will get the following, while the other guy will be scratching his head wondering why he’s alone.

Otherwise, get your own tag and tag up and create the environment you want on map.

You have choices. So does the commander on map. If you don’t like it, then create your own.

This post seems to summarily answer most of the unbridled rage on this forum, come on guys what the heck lmao.

If you are not inTS you don't matter.

in WvW

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

Well, to be honest, if you’re following the tag, the correct thing to do is to join their teamspeak server if they’re advertising one. Otherwise, get off that particular tag and follow someone else, or put up a tag yourself.

There is no “correct” thing to do. If you are following an open tag (usually blue) then you are not obliged to do anything. TS is a courtesy on both sides, the one providing it and the one choosing to use it or not. However it’s by no means a required tool to play WvW efficiently or successfully.

I don’t frequent these forms too often anymore, but here’s a late reply

Yes, that is the correct thing to do. That person is leading their squad. They set it up how they want. If they don’t want to have someone not in teamspeak in their squad, that’s their right. If they don’t want non-TS users on their tag, that’s their right as well, especially since ANet refuses hidden/guild commander tags. You can go follow another tag, put up your own tag, or roam if you’re not happy with their rules.

Some good points being raised in this thread though

1. Disabilities

Yes. This is a huge problem. Those with disabilities should never be forced into teamspeak. I know I had a couple of people with hearing disabilities explain that to me so I knew to keep them in squad and not force them to join teamspeak. They even joined along later in advertising teamspeak. Also had a person that required hearing aids to hear, but still enjoyed being in teamspeak. Each person is different. Find a commander that is still happy to have you along.

2. Elitists in TS

Yeah… This is an issue. It’s extremely irritating to listen to. Having commanders call out random kitten and blaming random people that aren’t in their guild just feels bad to listen to. I’d leave the channel if that were the case

3. Noisy chatter

Okay, so it’s not for everyone, but TS3, for a lot of people, is a place to socialise with other people on your server. These are the people you have to play with day in and day out (server transfers aside). You’ll find a lot of times, that it will be the same people following specific commanders with a specific group every time. People will find their niche in their server and just hang around them. Each server is a huge community after all.

If you still prefer your music though, what I tend to do is to mute everyone but the commander, and have my music playing through my speakers, while TS3 audio goes through my headphones. Works a treat

Honestly, it’s generally better, if you’re following the tag, to join their teamspeak. If you can’t or won’t, just don’t join that tag. Such a simple solution.

So, what tag do I follow, when they’re the only game in town, and I/ve been booted, w. purchased boosters popped and a 2 hr que? O, don’t suggest I reroll and rewait, burning up boosters/food, etc. Don’t suggest I go solo, I have a zerg build and will just get picked off, hurting the server goals. Don’t suggest I run alongside the zerg, as it exactly the same thing as running with the squad w/o TS, only I get no protections so I die more (and the zerg doesn’t get my heals) so the zerg fails more (or alienates me by not rezzing, not healing, etc) and the server goals fail more often (than if I were in squad). I’m confused. Such a simple suggestion that doesn’t help.

How does the zerg not get your heals? Not being in a squad in WvW does not prevent you from playing the game. While I think elitism in general is fricking terrible, if a commander was actually strict enough to boot players until all 50 were people in TS, hell that means your zerg is gonna be hella dedicated and stomp over pug zergs which is even better for capping and loot. You can always get better gear, it’s pointless to complain about dying in a zerg when there are always steps to take to perform better, squad or no. I don’t know what your problem is unless you’ve irritated commanders and get kicked for that reason? Lol

If you are not inTS you don't matter.

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

Only if you aren’t actually paying attention. If you’re in TS but aren’t following the commander, paying attention or need to l2p it doesn’t matter anyway lmao. You might as well just tell people to “git gud” because you’ll never get everyone into TS and they have no obligation to do so, especially when drama in map chat carries over to voice comms. No one wants to listen to that garbage. It’s a game and people are here to have fun, teach people how to play their class, not yell at them for not using third party programs IMO.

OP you should probably switch servers or stick with a guild group, or you’ll always flip when you run into pugs lmao

Skirmish Chests are terrible.

in WvW

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

Specifically the number of clicks required to open a stack of them. You’d think with all the clicking required to open loot in this game they’d be toning that down, but nope. 5-7 clicks per chests to get one bloody item, rinse and repeat. I kinda doubt any dev has opened more than a few of them because it’s incredibly tedious.

Quick fix: one of the vendors in WvW gets a new tab that allows you to use Skirmish Chests as currency to purchase one of the selectable rewards from the chest. This is huge because unlike the “choose-your-own-reward” loot boxes, the vendor UI actually allows you to buy more than one item at a time. Bam, problem solved.

Be a bro Anet, just think of all the mice that are gonna break opening all those chests, don’t leave us hanging

After one year, STILL no UI fix?

Early last year WvW got the reward track update and HoT maps got their meta updated that also introduced a silly button above the minimap that overlaps with the first popup chest that contains rewards for playing the game. Everyone I’ve spoken to about this feels it’s annoying, as one wrong click and it becomes pointlessly more frustrating to actually feel incentivized for playing the bloody game. It made sense that this UI mistake would be addressed with the next major WvW patch, but it’s been over a year and this still isn’t the case.
Look, this is a great update for WvW and all, and I’ll give Anet credit for fixing the UI issue that prevented commanders from changing their tag color if the chat box had been moved to the top of the screen. But it’s very hard to take the game seriously when they still haven’t fixed this basic interface issue that has existed for so many months.
Please move the position that popup chests spawn above the reward track button so there’s no embarrassing overlap between the two, or give an option to disable the button altogether and introduce another way to show participation progress. This same functionality was in the game when Heart of Thorns launched; you’d just hover over the minimap to show the participation/reward progress popup which you now have to click an unnecessary button that overlaps with another, more important element in the UI. This should really be fixed.

Conspiracy theory: Anet haven’t prioritized build templates because players who REALLY want to can spend gold/gems on a character slot and gear to manually create their own template on a new character. If so, that is kind of a kitten move.

Honestly that isn’t even a feature that would need to be tied into an expansion either (read: feature pack). I’d play the game more if I could save build templates on a single character.

The most dramatic ending to LWS3 I can think of off the top of my head would be us rushing to stop Braham from killing Jormag and failing, thus like someone mentioned releasing his energy that’s absorbed by Kralkatorrik (or another god?) and setting up the scene for the expansion i.e. deal with Kralk before things get out of hand. This would also give the Branded minions a new dimension with ice-based attacks, and maybe some crazy story instances where you have to deal with all the different types of dragon energy that have mixed together, kind of like Jormag’s abomination in E3 but on a bigger scale.

Otherwise, what really sends us into the Crystal Desert? Surely that’s going to be one of the biggest points of E6.

Let's talk about Searing Ascent.

in Living World

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

I’d love to love the new jumping puzzle. The new map looks fantastic, and exploring caves in a cavern ceiling is pretty neat. But let’s be real; Searing Ascent is a mess. I’ve seen maybe half a dozen other players attempting the JP (a record low in my experience) due to issues like these:

1. It’s a monster of a headache to do even while following a guide. “Path markers” only exist in the latter half of the puzzle, and even then they often lead you in the wrong direction.
2. Using the Oakheart Essences in tiny, cramped nooks is a buggy nightmare. Aim wrong and you bounce off the ceiling, wasting a charge and you have to start over again. Aim wrong and you don’t even go as high as you should, and you have to start over again. The jumping puzzle elements in tight spaces has worked well, the new mechanic does not.
3. While the “Return to Checkpoint” skill is a good idea, apparently it’s pretty buggy because mine disappeared at some point after the third checkpoint. I didn’t even get the warning message that pops up before it happened. And I was in the caverns right at the end, so I couldn’t even jump out and go back to the checkpoint. Pretty peeved about that.
4. The absolute worst offender by far: the random bolts of lightning that knock you off your glider. WHY?!?!? The JP is already ridiculously frustrating enough trying to figure out where on earth you’re supposed to go. Why the hell is there random lightning that screws you over? That’s got to be the dumbest part in the whole puzzle. It’d be one thing if it were obvious where you needed to go, and it was just a matter of trial and error to figure out how to avoid this mechanic. But you can hardly tell from where this random garbage that can screw up your whole run shows up until it happens. Absolutely terrible.

I know what you’re thinking, “just don’t do it then.” Aside from the implication of discouraging people from doing in-game content, here’s the thing: if it were just confusing or challenging to navigate, that would be one thing. But bugs ruining the enjoyment of playing the game are a whole other issue, and that’s just not fun at all. Not to mention a BS mechanic that makes a frustrating experience even worse.

Please don’t do JP’s like Searing Ascent again.

Why are Current Events character-bound?

in Living World

Posted by: Mal.1670

Mal.1670

Look, any character can play Living World Season 3, even if they haven’t completed the Heart of Thorns story, and LW3 takes place AFTER the HoT story. So why does the latest Current Event “storyline” require completion of Hearts and Minds? I’m frustrated because I actually saved the stupid Broken Caladbolg, but it’s soulbound to another character. So even though I STILL HAVE the bloody sword, I have to buy a new one from the Miyani and use an old character I don’t even play anymore to start these Current Events.

If the Broken Caladbolg stayed account bound even on equip, like the Gold Fractal weapons, that would also fix this issue. But seriously, what the hell is with the random disparity making you use certain characters to do Current Events when ANY character can do Living World Season 3? That design is far more punitive than it is rewarding in any sense.

If you’re not going to require completion of all the story steps chronologically to play Living World, don’t randomly require completion of story for arbitrary side content. I really want to enjoy these Current Events, but they’re getting way too frustrating to get into. What the hell gives?

From the Cin Business achievement’s text: Find goods that might interest Cin-some that he lost, some that he wants to sell. “What have you got for ol’ Cin, eh?”

Me: “Awesome, finally another scavenger hunt with some story elements!”

“…nope, Cin has no in-game dialogue referencing this collection even though he seems to have dialogue in the achievement text…”

“And he won’t acknowledge I’ve found any items or actually buy them from me. What the hell??”

Anet, for over a year now you guys have been having a serious issue making achievement items clog up inventories for absolutely no reason. As far as I know, some legendary collection items STILL make you type their name out to delete them which is absolutely ridiculous, and they serve no other purpose. Single-acquisition collection items (not like the spoons bought for karma) should all be like the exotic accessories for the specialization collections; each one has SOME sell value to merchants to easily (and rewardingly) get rid of useless crap that serves no other purpose.

Conceptually, I enjoyed the Lake Doric scavenger hunt more than the Mursaat Tokens in Ember Bay; fewer to find, less frustrating to find. Eighteen items of inventory spam, however, is just ludicrous. Not all of the collection items even had flavor text, so what’s the point? Having to manually delete eighteen pointless items just for a collection is not fun or engaging. Selling items to a vendor with a single click each, now that’s a different story.

Thank you for a more interesting collection scavenger hunt this update, but PLEASE don’t do it like this again. Cin doesn’t even have any in-game interaction with the achievement. Even a sell value of 1 silver on useless collection items would reduce frustration and make them feel more rewarding. Please? <3

Great post. I also don’t want to derail the post into the issue of dueling, but I will say this:

  1. If you interrupt a duel, some people might get upset with you but most will be patient and will try to let you know it’s a duel.
  2. If you don’t notice their efforts, or choose to ignore them, the enemy duelers (and possibly the spectators) may kill you.
  3. If it become clear that you interrupted a duel to troll, because you think they don’t belong in wvw, etc., there’s a reasonably good chance you’ll experience some blowback. Mocking in map chat by your server’s duelers, and being hunted with impunity by enemy duelers are all real possibilities. Your guild mates may also get some extra special love.

That said, it’s your call. You play the game how you want.

That said, duels should really be kept in low-traffic areas, because you can’t expect every zergling to stop fighting someone who might look like a roamer getting attacked by another roamer. People used to duel around SMC, and sometimes “duelers” would let teammates get stomped because they thought a duel was going on when it wasn’t.

I can see how Anet didn’t just want people jumping into the new map before doing the first story instance, but after completing the episode there’s no reason to lock the portal to other characters. When you reflect a projectile while in stealth, you get Revealed. Reflecting should count as enemies dealing damage to themselves, not originating from the character reflecting.

Epidemic's animation plays twice.

When you cast Epidemic, it plays the “dark nova” animation once upon cast, and an additional time a second later. This does not repeat the effects of the skill, but it is unprecedented and kind of annoyingly sloppy.

Crafting ascended HoT recipes is a joke anyway; you have to make a ludicrous amount of Fulgurite. Just get the exotic recipe and stat change a piece of ascended gear. The ascended recipes aren’t even that difficult to get, so I don’t see the issue here.

You could also take a leaf out of revs books and make headshot a longer daze but with kitten CD….

Either way this thread will be a salt mine, let me grab my popcorn.

Thief weapons skills don’t have cooldowns, so how would you even accomplish that lol

Superior rune of the berserker broken

The biggest issue here is that Condition Damage is both a stat and a type of damage, similar to Power and (regular) Damage. This rune set doesn’t clearly distinguish between the two, however it should increase the resulting condition damage the same way that sigil of force does.

Someone joining + leaving resets LFG

If you’re alone in a party and using the LFG tool to find more and someone else joins and leaves, this removes your listing from the LFG. This is pretty silly and frustrating because it’s actually stupidly easy to troll people and make them have to keep re-posting their ad in LFG.

This only applies going from a 2 person party back to just 1. For some reason this messes with LFG listings.

Why do the gift box skritt...

Why do the gift box skritt go invulnerable a couple seconds after opening the gift boxes in central Tyria? It’s not like they drop any loot anyway, so what exploit is there to prevent by doing that?

Why are we doing rift events?

Do the rifts still spawn or did they break in a recent update? Spent hours running around Ascalon and the only rifts I saw were the temporary animations of Auris teleporting around the stupid lake. Waste of time now lol not cool guys

Can't login to send a support ticket.

The Guild Wars 2 main website allows me to log in and view my account details, but when I go to place a ticket the site prompts me to login, and does not recognize that I already just logged in. To make matters worse, there’s no section to actually log in on the submit ticket screen; there’s a “Trouble logging in” reset password button, but that’s it. I had to submit an anonymous support ticket because of this issue, and I still have not heard back in almost 24 hours.

Okay it won’t let me edit my post, saying “There was an error!” in a pop-up haha, that’s a first. I just wanted to add this: while I like the idea of Taimi's virtual training room and it did advance the story with the "paradigm shift", I was kinda surprised later since I thought the concept of it was supposed to teach us new mechanics for revamped dragon minions, but it ended up being more like a separate Queen's gauntlet kind of event. My 2 cents: I hope that the training room evolves to compensate for the real-world dragon minion changes, if there is another planned mission. Our character did suggest Taimi load in some Jormag minions, but if they're totally different from the real deal, what's the point right?

Maybe that was already a given hahah, just wanted to share. Keep up the great updates!

Squad UI placement issue

If you move the chat window to the top of the screen so the squad and commander button is all the way at the bottom, the pop-up window that lets you change squad settings is cut off by the bottom of the screen so you can’t actually change your commander tag color. I was wondering where the heck they moved the button to change your tag color, until I finally figured out that the devs goofed on the UI and it just does not allow total functionality unless the squad button is at the top of the screen (and chat on the bottom).

My resolution is 1920×1080, not sure if this affects the issue.
