Tired of seeing P/P in groups

I’m aware of the range, I just didn’t think I had to elaborate it. You run around and walk up to them, that’s the reason for the P/P, because you will be running around a lot trying to share your venom while still being able to unleash damage.

again, unless they are stacked on top of each other, you are sharing with 1 guy. it isnt particularly what most would call acceptable group support and surely nothing to justify pistol/pistol single target damage.

P/P is a good balance of sustained damage and survivability which can be summed up into one word: support. Thieves are very good in support with venom sharing (offensive) and keeping their team alive (defensive), while still being able to unleash sustained damage (You cannot have it all, as they say). I’ve not run with any team that looked down on the way I play my P/P thief.

Venom share doesnt support anyone but the thief using it.

perhaps you might want to check the range on the shared venoms. when you realize the share distance is maybe 200 (melee range) you realize you are buffing anyone, because they arent standing on top of you.

Venom Thief Build (PvE, Dungeons) - Advice?

in Thief

Posted by: Malvagite.3254

Malvagite.3254

Venom advice for pve is dont do it.

venoms are a big waste of utility slots for things that are actualy useful in a dungeon, (ie shadow refuge, smoke screen and scorpion wire).

unless your group is totally devoid of someone applying poison, which is rare as most necros, rangers and thieves will keep your target perma poisoned, the poison venom only adds duration to whats already on the boss not any additional damage or utility.

the chill venom is basically a worthless condition also. it only affects skills if they are cast while the mob is under its effect, which is very short and mobs attack with skills extremely slowly. if you are lucky you will increase 1 skills recharge one time. it isnt noticeable. The other effect of chilled is a snare and bosses cant be snared with regularity.

root venom, same thing, bosses wont be rooted or if you get it to land, big deal…..it stays put for 2 sec of every 36/45.

venom share is absolute trash unless your entire groups stack on you when you trigger the venom. summon your thieves guild and note how far away from you they stand when they appear. That is the range of venom share, it basically melee range and under normal circumstances will never affect another party member.

venoms and traps are both horribly implemented skill lines and complete wastes of utility real estate in their current iterations.

until you can easily see peoples titles……..

who cares?

the title display system is as horribly implemented in GW2 as t was in GW1. you cant even see someones title unless you click on them, then look at the top of your screen and try to read the fine print under their health bar.

is it such a crime to make titles visible over players heads like every other game?

How do you feel about getting Ascended Gear?

ive been farming the bloods for the back piece all day, literally. ive looted 6.

i had 6 from before so im 12/250….

that is only a portion of the mats required. Ask me in a month how i feel when im close to having a quarter of the mats i need to make this 1 item.

Farming the same mob all day long is about the worst gaming experience i could ask for and i have weeks ahead of doing just this at the current drop rates.

One Time Event. Limited Time Chest.

Malvagite.3254

Why would/Should anyone that didn’t do the event get access to the chest? I’m so flabbergasted by this idea. I didn’t get to do the event but this idea of yours makes no sense. Might as well give everyone all the gear they need at level 80 in a chest as a prize for making it to 80 too amirite?

Why should there be one time events in a global game?

ask yourself that.

WoW has been doing phased content for years. Events that change the world can easily be phased events and participated in by everyone in any time zone and at any time.

My feedback: read the 10,000 post thread of people pissed off about ascended gear, take it very seriously, and reply to your customers soon and honestly.

The rest of patch was fine, and the lag can be forgiven.

This sums up what id like to say, more concisely than i would have said it.

you dont have grandmaster traits

gotta speak up here — as a necro, none of our 30-point traits are really that compelling. for a long, long time i ran 10/20/20/10/10 — it was the strongest condition build for everything really, i only swapped because i felt the coming Mark of Evasion nerf.. which is a shame, really, because it was very interesting gameplay IMO.
Overall I’m ~100 cond dmg higher now at 10/30/20/0/10, but honestly no stronger or weaker — just a little less versatile.

30 point traits? maybe for some classes, but don’t speak too broadly.. for at least 1 class there’s really no stand-out must-have 30 point traits.

it doesnt matter if its 30 point traits. the point is he doesnt have enough trait points to have the survivability of a higher level character.

nor does he have access to 3 stat armor.

many encounters are run through and low level players die more when running through. god forbid they die and have to run back to the group solo, its even worse.

you may be scaled up but that isnt worth as much as you think it is.

you dont have grandmaster traits, as such you are missing a lot of defense options. you dont have gear with 3 sets of stats either, further putting your survivability at risk.

rezzing low level players multiple times a run is akin to 4 manning the dungeon.

ill take 1 low level player with me if the rest of the group is near max level. 2 or more…no thanks.

sure you can complete AC with a group of 5 lev 35’s. but you will die many times in the process. that prospect is only worth the time investment to the low level player.

Can alts have a star next to their name if you have ever done map completion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Malvagite.3254

Malvagite.3254

um, you know you can do 100% map completion on all of your character so they each have the star you want?

I have two characters both at 100% and a third at 83%.

Im not sure how you can miss your star when you have never seen your own star=p

Now if you could toggle showing your own name (devs pls implement this ~!) … maybe.

Why Thiefs need a nerf to dps

Malvagite.3254

Is there any other melee weapon besides daggers that only do single target damage with the 1 skill for any class?

Thats why dagger damage is high.

Some people ignore the obvious. The other melee weapons all do damage to 3 targets with skill 1 chain. Its normal for those weapons to be lower damage as they can do aoe damage.

Nine Tail Strike Nerf

in Thief

Why? What’s wrong? They attack in hugely telegraphed ways and really slowly, Ninetail practically hard counters PvE.

It doesnt hard counter multiple opponents, which is what this thread is about.

Nine Tail Strike Nerf

in Thief

Malvagite.3254

What changed is that Nine Tail Strike generates less initiative now, much less.

It only gives enough to sustain casting itself. You no longer can also cast 5 to attack and evade vs multiple foes.

So the options i see are cast 3 and have initiative for nothing else (which works for single mob encounters, albeit very slowly) OR cast 5 until you run out of initiative (which isnt long since 5 is a single target attack).

While i agree, thief pve underwater combat was quite strong pre nerf, i feel helpless now when facing more than one tough enemy at a time.

For example, 2 risen sharks. On land, i can fight 2 or 3 enemies of this calibur, but underwater im toast now. I have next to no sustainable defense since the nerf. Stealth underwater is basically nonexistant and dodging isnt something i can pull off like i can on land.

How have you changed your method of combat since this nerf to be successful against more than one tough enemy at a time underwater?

Free to play games pull this garbage on thier customers and anyone who has played those games know how long they are in business.

It works for those games because they are cheaply produced and when the customer base is kitten off they just release another cheap F2P game and it starts anew.

That wont work with GW2. It isnt a cheaply made game and the devs have no desire to see their customer base leave so abruptly.

They really need to do away with rewards in these gambling chests and sell the stuff outright in the shop. Sure they make bank in the short term this way, but the profits wont last and neither will the people willing to spend real money, not in-game gold.

In my opinion - World first: 10k achievement points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Malvagite.3254

Malvagite.3254

I do hope the devs take a good look at this thread and disable and remove any points gained from the “unlimited” point generating achievements.

Those achievements only serve to make the point total of an account meaningless. For example, you have over 10k achievement points, yet you havent even finished gaining acceptance to the three orders yet nor have you finished the story lines for each race. Your sPvP achievements are at the rabbit level and your WvW achievements are those of someone who just stepped foot into the zone for the first time.

My point is, you have more achievement points than is even possible to aquire had you done every non-repeatable achievement in the game. Yet you have not even done the most basic achievements.

Compare that to someone like myself, who has 750+ hours logged and has 4 maxed trades, all jumping puzzles, all dungeon paths but 3, half of the slayer titles, 85% of the hero tab, and alot more. My total is 2837.

Gaining points the way you did makes it impossible to look at someones achievement points and tell if they really put a lot of time and effort into maxing out their achievements or if the set a macro to reapply a HoM skin over and over before they went to bed every night.

This is a design decision and is a normal part of the game. Its so you dont have weapons clipping through the ground, in the case of asura, yet they look normal when drawn.

This was first commented on by the devs when the asura gameplay videos became public as it is used on them the most.

Good job on the witch costume

Malvagite.3254

I bought the male witch costume and im a bit dissapointed in 2 of the animations that the female costume does much better.

1 the "melt’ animation for the male version ends with the female witches hat and cape falling to the ground. Neither item the male version actually has.

2 the “flying broom” animation for the male has him straddling the broom and the broom just clips through the robe horribly. I would much rather the male version sat side saddle like the female if this is the best they can do.

When i spend this kind of money on a costume id like to see a little higher quality. The costume would be so much better if my character where female.

I really hope they go back and fix those 2 issues at some point, but i doubt it will happen =/

My issues with the achievement system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Malvagite.3254

i also really spend the time to work on achievements. i was over 10k in WoW and i havent played that game for over a year.

i agree with you that the “uncapped” achievements, the achievements that give points forever, totally skew the value of your achievement point total when comparing it with others.

for example, if you see someone with 4k points……does that number reflect a person that has completed that majority of the achievements in the game and has taken a few months break and stopped playing or does it reflect someone who has done a fair amount of achievements, but plays every day and has fluffed their total with misc dungeon runs, daylies/monthlys and other uncapped achievements.

achievement points hold no value other than a badge of status for in game completion. the achievements that give points forever sort of diminish this.

Is this exploiting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Malvagite.3254

Malvagite.3254

Before they added diminishing returns / lowered the drop rate of badges in WvW, this would never have been worth the time. You used to be able to aquire 5 badges just through normal play within minutes of entering the zone.

Now badges drop so rarely, jumping puzzles are indeed the fastest way to earn badges.

Whats wrong with that picture?

I personally stopped doing WvW altogether as i can kill for a few hours and only get < 10 badges. The drop rate is so low that its sucked the fun out of that portion of the game for me.

There are a lot of warriors

Malvagite.3254

my first 100% map complete character was a warrior and i found it to be very lacking. I dropped it as my main and now have a thief at 100% map completion.

the thief, with its positional requirements in melee combat and mobility on every weapon set, is so much more enjoyable to play.

its my opinion that there are so many warriors only because thats the only class those people have played and they dont realize how much greener the grass is on the other side.
