Let’s see it’s the most balanced thing in game…. perfect skill balance, no class has any advantages vs any other it all comes down to coordination and player skill.

Yeah, this is where you are totally wrong.

Its not remotely balanced. The team ahead in kills retains all of their skills and upgrades and has free time during respawns to collect orbs at will.

The team that loses the initial group fight comes back with nothing save an autoattack and lack of knowledge of what healing orbs are available for pick up.

The game is designed to be an unrecoverable snowball effect and thats why people quit when behind by 60-80 pts.

I cant possibly see how it wouldnt be better for the game to just deactivate this mess or remove the achievements tied to it.

Downright horrible.

The only ignorance is that you didnt acknowledge i said base damage in my post.

Really now? So taking less than 1 second to put out at least 10k, potentially 13k damage on a group mob while you’re still doing other abilities isn’t good damage? You intentionally try to undermine the damage by looking at tooltip values, when it’s the third hardest hitting engineer ability, and it just keeps going while you whip out several others. If that’s not good damage, then I don’t know what is. What, a 3.5 second channel for 20k damage on the same mobs? Maybe 30k if we’ve got the might and vuln rolling at the same time? Given the damage over time, a warrior in melee and an engineer juggling all their skills, it’s a minimal difference – and considering that an engineer will bring poison, AoE heals, blind, stuns-on-demand, and roots with > 25% uptime, that sacrifice is well worth the loss, and the difference in value shows in mob encounters, such as the start of the Grawl fractal and dealing with the Ice Elementals during the blizzard boss. The kicker is, that engineer damage is still maintained bar jump shot and blunderbuss at long range boss encounters (technically you can use blunderbuss semi-safely but I don’t feel comfortable running in for more than acid bomb against those heavy duty bosses, gear shield only goes so far).

Just because you don’t know how to pilot the class to its full potential doesn’t mean it’s bad.

my posts were about a claim that 2 abilities would triple your damage output and i believe i have proven that the claim was not truthful in the least.

your multi paragraph response is in regards to things ive never said nor do i have any interest in.

If you care to prove how concussive bomb + Acid shot will triple ones damage output that would be wonderful.

Otherwise i have no idea who you are replying to, but you keep quoting me.

Just thought I’d pipe in, Google’s comment is pretty spot on. Comments like

Acid Bomb is 6 ticks of 277 base damage if the mob stays in the field so it does from 300-1700 over a 5 second period….

Display some of the front-ended ignorance that results when people don’t test things. I’ve seen Acid Bomb crit for easily over 2k, and given it’s 6 ticks, that can add up pretty fast. It works wonders at melting mobs you can reliably keep still (net shot is a good option here), and it only gets better when you learn how to play. Just fighting a mob in melee, acid bomb’ing, and weapon swapping immediately as the launch begins? They’re fighting on your acidic turf, which you promptly follow up with jump shot and blunderbuss and the like – especially since acid bomb hits harder with your rifle out rather than a kit.

The only ignorance is that you didnt acknowledge i said base damage in my post.

I wonder how people who play engineers can be so ignorant about their own class.. we have a large variety of sources that unlike most classes we can stack up!! ( like con Concussion Bomb + Acid bomb.. it will triple your DPS on short CD),

How in the world does concussion bomb + Acid Bomb triple your dps?

5s of confusion @ 180 radious (melee range btw)

pve mobs attack maybe 1x every 2.5 sec. ….so 1300 damage over a 5 second period is tripling your dps? how?

Acid Bomb is 6 ticks of 277 base damage if the mob stays in the field so it does from 300-1700 over a 5 second period….

not to mention that one of those attacks scales with power and the other with condition damage so you arent boosting either one terribly far from base damage.

If those numbers please you, then i can see why you think the engineer problems are a player issue.

Cbomb 800+ dmg at 0 Condition damage
Acid bomb and personally it hits around 3-4k

combo takes 1 sec to set up and you have 4k+ AoE damage overtime and you can still use all your attack and kits ?? that’s a combo there are lots of on engi! find them

kits are not meant to be burn CD and then switch…!! if you’re figthign meele.. drop smoke bomb and rifle it around, its perma blind for a few secs, perc for zergs of mobs

Again i will ask.

4k damage over time and your claim was it will triple your damage.

That means you are doing only 1300 non-combo damage in that same period of time.

That is nothing……

Hell, the total package of damage is nothing compared to what the premier damage classes produce.

If stacking conditions are such a tax on bandwith……why does almost every weapon in the game have some form of god kitten condition on it?

The devs are way off the mark if they dont see the condition system as a must fix now priority.

Very few classes have more than 2-3 viable builds. If you remove condition builds form that small pool….I guess every class can then have 1 viable build?

While your at it, fix conditions doing full damage to yellow named objects. Im tired of being unable to break my team out of aplha’s prisons in CoE, im tired of being unable to take out a fire breathing gargoyle head or breeding mound in AC and im tired of being unable to break down gates and trebuchets in sPvP because i have high condition damage and low power.

Yeah, thats right, the only ascended condition gear is Rabid (pre/tou/cond)

Six months is way too long to not see the needed class balancing appear.

If you look over the class changes since the game went live, its like basically nothing has been done at all. A few minor tweaks……thats it.

I dont care if its 2 guys working it or not. if thats all i produced in a six month period i would have been fired long ago.

I’m taking the comments about Engineers/Rangers/Necromancers as opinion, not fact. It’s not always immediately obvious how to play these classes. I play an engineer and there are countless different ways I could set myself up. The trick is finding the right mix of abilities and tactics to both satisfy your enjoyment and be effective.

My personal experience with the engineer was that I initially was overwhelmed with the broad range of abilities, weapon kits, turrets, etc. and the very loose connection between them all. Once I settled on a playstyle and build, and figured out which things I wanted and which I didn’t, I started to like my character. I currently play a rifleman in PvE with elixirs in my skill slots for buffs and condition damage. One day I might decide I want to do AoE support as a grenadier, or maybe defend an area with turrets and land mines.

It’s way too easy to have ineffective strategy with these classes, but that doesn’t make them inherently bad.

When millions of people are spread out over only 8 classes…..the problem isnt that all of those people cant figure out the nuances of a class.

Its not an opinion when people say necro, ranger and engineer are weak.

The numbers dont lie.

Mossman stealths every 6-15 seconds as of the last build. Before he fully renders he throws his axe and his target is downed.

What counter is there for that?

You can blindly dodge 2x and hope to get lucky. You can blow a long cool down defensive skill and hope for the same luck. This is skill based , well designed play?

When hes stealthing that often, it isnt long before your luck runs out, because your cool downs arent as fast as his.

Your harpy strategy is also pure theorycraft. The red circles are larger than many of the platforms. So you cant even see them, because they extend past the edge of the platforms. And you suggest jumping from platform to platform while under attack?

Thats funny, because under direct combat your move speed and jump are reduced to a snails pace making jumping a short distance in combat an epic feat in itself.

Fractals are not new. over 2 months old in a 5 month old games is not new. Since the last patch where they changed the archers in the frozen fractal to melee, i have had only 2 groups that didnt wipe at least 1 time there. Depending on group composition ive had groups wipe 3-4x passed that point at the elemental from chain knockdowns.

These poorly balanced fights are not fun and the groups i have been in say so in chat. There is no skill involved in dodging a knockdown, then dodging another, then being knockdown because you are out of resources to dodge.

So there’s possibly one balancing issue with mossman in your opinion that they recently introduced (I wouldn’t know I haven’t done it since) so that immediately means all dungeons are horrible? All one-shot mechanics are impossible?

I’m sure they will fix it if they find there is an issue with it, Robert does an awesome job working through the bugs systematically and even made a blogpost explaining the upcoming fixes to encounters.

As for harpies, are you serious? I always use that tactic without a problem and don’t get knocked off at all (unless I’m distracted which is my own fault), you can jump to another platform in combat they are close enough to each other to do so and if you position yourself right you can always see the AOE so no it’s not theorycrafting it’s a proven method that works well not just for myself but for others also.

Also I don’t see you mention any of the other dungeons, have you done them? Because there are definitely no issues with the one-shot mechanics in any of those dungeons that I can think of.

That they are horrible and impossible one-shot mechanics is your opinion. You can’t use one example of where this ability may be overtuned in your opinion as proof of ‘horrid dungeon design’ it takes time to balance them out and fix all the issues with dungeons but the majority of the dungeon experience is great and the one-shot mechanics are very doable. They’ve already fixed a lot of things since launch so dungeons are getting better and better and more polished.

I’m looking forward to the new improvements to boss healths and additional mechanics added which I hope have more one shot mechanics and other more fun mechanics.

You are cherry picking select points and ignoring the rest. You are making arguments on points i have not made.

By not responding to all of my points you are proving my points as valid. In the end, all you are saying is that you enjoy the dungeon design.

Thats nice and i believe we got that point 4 posts ago.

That doesnt change what people say in the group chat that i read and what they say is that many of the encounters are not fun and not skill based and I agree with them.

Have i done the other dungeons?

I have my dungeon master title, i have my fractals achievment also. I dont talk about the other dungeons, because they arent relevant. I havent needed a single drop from any of them for months and quite frankly no one would except a new player or an alt.

The dungeons, barring AC and CoF are not run by most people because they are too kitten long or too hard for kitten rewards that no one but the already mentioned need. How many times can you run a static dungeon path before it is no longer fun?

26 silver is my reward …..

What the hell can you even buy with 26 silver?

My precursor is 550 gold and rising every day, but the 26 silver is constant.

No one said “everyone”

You cant make any statement without someone saying that it doesnt apply to them.

The dungeons in this game are full of horrible designs. ie, …

1 shot deaths (mossman even does this from stealth with zero way to react to his attack)

bosses that carpet bomb football field size areas with red circles (dodge the red circle being the core boss mechanic of guild wars 2)

Defensive stats that basically dont work ( 3000 toughness = just as dead as the base 916 toughness in many, many fights)

many boss fights where melee is sub optimal or flat out impossible, yet your trait points are spent to enhance your greatsword ..

Encounters like the knockback shooting harpies in fractals where your options to fight them totally depend on long cooldown skills that not every class has. the end result being death zerging them down.

thats garbage design.

You enjoy that? great….there are people that enjoy opera and burnt toast as well.

But most people do not.

As Fortuna already said. There are people who melee all bosses without dying (I for example like to melee subject alpha on my mesmer), It’s not impossible just harder.

I personally like the one shot mechanics it forces you to counter or dodge the ability properly which requires some skill, knowledge of tactics and good timing. If you’re dying from one shot mechanics you’re doing it wrong.

As for fractals, it’s a new dungeon still in need of some balancing. Personally I’m not huge on fractals I prefer the old dungeons so I’ve only gone up to lvl 11 in fractals so I don’t know what the moss man is like on high levels but he certainly didn’t one shot people at those levels.

As for the harpies they’re so easy to avoid, stand on the edge of a platform so you can see the AOE and you can move to the other edge to avoid it or jump to nearby platform. I still don’t understand why people haven’t realised that and just stand on the middle of platforms or on the tiny ones being knocked off repeatedly. You don’t need stability, if I can do it on my mesmer you certainly can as well.

All your complaints to me sound more like you’re not countering the mechanics properly rather than an issue with the mechanics. The problem is with all these speed runners people are used to just rushing and dpsing through the dungeons and not actually doing the fights efficiently using the tactics and are then surprised they die a lot (rez rush magg is a great example of this and people letting troll fight kholer because as soon as they actually have to fight him they drop like flies etc.).

Mossman stealths every 6-15 seconds as of the last build. Before he fully renders he throws his axe and his target is downed.

Dungeons in guild wars 2 are no fun.

Horrible rewards except for token gear for the time spent.
Horrible fight mechanics, ie, being 1 shot, being beat down in 3 sec with 3k armor after your 2 dodges are gone.

Triple AAA mmorpg with combat and rewards worse than a free to play korean grinder.

If it werent for tokens, people wouldnt even step foot in these horrible dungeons.

Please don’t speak for ‘people’ as if everyone feels that way. There are a lot of people who love dungeons myself included and apart from too much health of some bosses and some balancing/extra mechanics added they are great. Rewards in dungeons are pretty good now as well compared to before and compared to WvW/Open world PvE.

People who love dungeons don’t do them just for the tokens but for the content. I still do dungeons A LOT, I’ve done them all MANY times over and my bank is full with tokens because I simply enjoy it.

The key is to find a steady dungeon group of like minded people where you can learn the tactics together as a group and take your time to socialize, communicate, wipe and gain victories together. That’s how we did it, those who went through the dungeons in the first month or so we weren’t told how to do it we had to solve the problems ourselves.

The problem is with PuGs, Many have elitist attitudes and/or speed through dungeons as the OP described without knowing the word dodge and dying repeatedly being carried by the one person who has some more skill.

Before you search a PuG group make sure to state you do not want to skip any content or speed through the dungeon. Repeat this again when you have a group to make sure everyone agreed. Usually you can find more people with the same attitude to dungeons.

If anything people ask me for dungeons often because they had such bad experiences with PuGs and want to actually enjoy them. Either way I would highly recommend finding a good set of people to do them with rather than PuGs (preferably people that are patient and can shrug off a few wipes etc.). Trust me the experience will be far richer and fun.

yet he has dont the incredibly hard achievements like 5000 kills with a shield

How to get 5k kills with a shield in two easy steps:
1. Find a bunch of critters (such as the rats in Beetletun)
2. Hit them with your shield for a few days

That’s it, you’re done! Congratulations! You’ve now completed an incredibly hard achievement, and can proudly say that you’ve smashed 5000 rats with your shield!

Edit:
Less sarcasm now. These achievements are account bound. Just roll out a new human warrior and hit 4 every 25 seconds. If you’ve already got a level 70+ warrior, then walk over to Beetletun with the Shield Master trait on (Defense IX) and do it every 20 seconds instead.

We all understand the process.

Now lets see a screenshot of you with the achievement?

Thats right, probably less than 0.25% of the population has that achievement because its way more difficult to accomplish than you make it sound on paper…….from the sheer boredom of it and the recast timer and the fact only 3 classes can even use a shield and only 1 of the two shield skills even do damage) and it has to be a killing blow to register toward the achievement.

I dont know a single person with that achievement, so show me a screenshot of yours, you can be worlds first.

I’ve entered in to the system and acted in good faith, that the infinite points were an intended feature of the system. To suggest that the points should just be blanket removed seems needlessly vindictive to me. Why not try and improve the system so that it truly represents all play styles instead of suggesting punishing people who you claim not to personally have anything against?

I have no desire to respond to most of your points because reading you defending your method of gaining points as legitimate sickens me quite honestly.

How can you genuinely equate breaking down a leather glove to killing Sinin in Arah path 4 for Dungeon Master?

That is one example. After around 3800-4000 points of >actual< achievements, you are left with the hard ones to boost your total up higher. But , not you, you just break down another glove.

Can you really not see how your 20k, points devalues the the hard achievements in the game that few people have accomplished?

High point totals mean something when people know that to get that high, you have to have done the hard stuff they have yet to do.

But in your case, you broke down another glove.

Its very sad that the unlimited achievements havent been patched out after you posted your 10k thread earlier.

20k, achievement points isnt remotely possible if you were to have completed every achievement possible minus the infinity ones.

your 20k points exemplifies whats wrong with the system. How does someone look at your points and go wow, you really have accomplished alot ….when in fact you havent accomplished hardly anything. Then they look at the guy next to you with 7k points and he looks like nothing in comparrisson, yet he has dont the incredibly hard achievements like 5000 kills with a shield, Giant slayer, Dungeon Master, ect.

I said it in the last post and ill say it in this one. The “infinity” achievements allow someone to do nothing substantial (ie, you) and amass points not even remotely possible by normal means and belittles the true achiever point total.

While i dont hold what you do against you as it is something the devs have not seen to remove, i sure dont see any reason to congradulate you for macroing your way to 20K points by using HoM reward skins and breaking down items repeatedly.

I am totally confused as to how I’m meant to play the game in order to get rewards.

You are meant to buy gems.

I’m sorry, but that is a fact backed up by every non-class nerf you have seen since the game went live.

The game is technically free to play, if you can ignore that you have to pay for the client, but to advance 80+ at any acceptable rate, you will buy gems or you will not outfarm inflation.

There are exceptions (people who exploited the karma weapons, and people that leveled fast and farmed places pre nerfs) that also have money and may not have bought many gems. Those three groups of players now artificially control the market. They buy every item of one type and relist it for more, precursors are an example of this.

You will never make enough money to compete with that through the means available in the game currently, while those groups continue to make more and more profit by controling the market.

Your only option to bridge that gap at this point is to buy gems.

And thats how Arena Net wants it, because they are the ones who nerfed things into the state they are today.

You assume my only conditions come from venoms? Hah, bad troll is bad.

I dont think you know what trolling means.

My point is that, even traited, your venoms can only be fired off every 36 seconds. meaning they arent even an issue to be reapplied for your opponent because the cooldown is so long.

That leaves you with no other conditions that any other build doesnt have and not any more difficult to remove than any other build.

If RNG could kill a game, some of the most popular games of all time would have been stillborn.

The problem with that argument is that times have changed and the players of the genre have also changed.

RNG to the extreme is no longer acceptable.

When everquest 1 came out it was devoured by a hungry playerbase and well loved. If it came out tomorrow, instead of 10 years ago….it would flop. People wont put up with such things now.

At some point i will just get fed up and quit this kitten.

i mean, its prime time and there is no overflow in my server, or on the 4 other peoples servers in my group. we had to disband….

Infinite dodging build

you cant hold a camp with that build.

bow dodge doesnt give 100% protection between casts, even if you spam it. There is a small window between casts where you can be hit. AoE fields placed under you or AoE in general will still effect you sometimes.

anytime i see soldier armor in a build, i can tell you your damage is gutted.

i love a tankier thief concept, but soldier armor is 33% offense, 66% no damage. ive run every iteration i can think of using it and while your survivability is good, your dps is horrible.

any thief build can bring the same utility you do with that build, be it glass cannon or not. anyone can stealth rez, ect.

being the last man standing only counts if you are productive while everyone else is alive, and a soldier armor build on a thief ….just isnt.

As opposed to full Berserker/offensive traits, where you would be lucky to survive for 10-15 seconds if aggro focuses on you.

I can make the same argument. You’re only productive when you’re alive. Going fully glass only risks your potential uptime. The trade-off is only worth it if your team is competent and you have the gaps to provide the damage. My setup gives me plenty of gaps to keep dishing out. Therefore, this is a more pug-friendly build, like I promised. If you have a dedicated team, by all means, go full glass. You have a role that you can fulfil. However, when I’m running with randoms, I want some space.

you dont have to be full glass, however, you are 2/3 defense.

that works for guardians, sometimes warriors…they provide non damage utilty throught buffs, blocks, ect that work on bosses.

your build does not.

ive run your build and 25 other variations of it. i know it lacks any appreciable damage. its extremely embarrassing to be in a situation where your party is dead and you need to solo one dungeon champ in front of them before rezzing, and it takes you 9 minutes ….

a thiefs defense is best served by utilizing dodge and maintaining high damage, than to build defense stats. we dont have the traits or skills to support that method adequately.

The devs have already done a 180 on the core promise of this game with no gear grind….changing to a subscription model is not out of the question based upon that.

I would greatly prefer to pay 15$ per month and have decent drops and a normal mmorpg economy than to deal with the situation we have now.

Can you even imagine how much more enjoyable holiday events would be if half of the content wasnt locked inside a RNG black lion chest?

Most dungeons are way too long (time) and the rewards are the worst in the industry.

16 years ive played mmorpgs, dating back to Neverwinter Nights on Aol. Never have I seen dungeon loot as bad as what GW2 offers.

The token items are a great reward, however the actual run (inside the dungeon) is embarrassing when it comes to loot.

Finally, magic find in dungeons. It needs to be disabled. Until you add soloable dungeons, people in magic find gear are not pulling their share of the team weight, either through their lack of defense or lack of offense.

Can Anet keep up with monthly updates?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I believe anet can keep up with monthly content now, at current player population.

however, as more and more players bleed away from the game for a multitude of reasons, anet will have to cut staffing to maintain profits. at that point monthly updates will no longer happen with regularity.

puts you where you dont want to be when using ranged weapons, which is what a thief uses 90% of the time in dungeons.

While I agree that Steal could use an option that doesn’t close range, you must be playing with a vastly different set of thieves than I am. Most thieves I group with in dungeons are damage-focused and use melee weapons.

i dont run Ascalon Catacombs or Citadel of Flames much anymore, but melee was more viable there.

thief daggers are single target damage. you see a good use for that in the dredge fractal, flame fractal or basically any fractal? the majority of the time you are facing multiples of opponents…….stupid amounts at times of 10-15+. melee thief is an anchor to the party. so i dont see them much anymore except in rare situations.

as a skill on a 45 sec cooldown, its average….as a class defining ability, its garbage.

its RNG in pve and puts you where you dont want to be when using ranged weapons, which is what a thief uses 90% of the time in dungeons.

it can be made better by traiting it and spending trait points to reduce its cooldown, but the ability itself is not something i would miss in the least if it was removed.

would a warrior, elementalist, guardian, ranger, necro, or engineer play differently without their class mechanics? absolutely…..but a thief wouldnt be affected in the least without untraited steal.

spending points to trait it only means you dont have those points to boost other things that arent RNG or dont make you go into melee range when you are attacking 900 range away, and then forcing you to spend resources to back out again all for a buff or debuff that really isnt even worth the time you spent to aquire it far too often.

In my personal opinion, 1200 Range Weapon Needed

in Thief

Posted by: Malvagite.3254

Malvagite.3254

Cluster Bomb on Short Bow already has 1200 range. And it’s a nice-sized AoE(which means it’s a bit larger in true range).

I don’t need a 1200 range weapon. Short Bow is already my 1200 range weapon thanks to Cluster Bomb. And since it’s fueled by initiative and not cooldown, and only costs 3 initiative, I can fire it pretty often even when running on empty.

We do not need a 1200 range weapon while Cluster Bomb has 1200 range. Believe me.

final boss in TA 3 of 4 paths, thieves are dead weight due to 900 range.

path 3 arah first boss can be done with 900 range, if you enjoy pressing 1 for every shot to hit him because he usually stands at 1000 range and you cant autofire that far.

lupi in arah (all paths) is the same thing. you have to manually press 1 for every shot during phase 1 grub stacking unless your entire group wants to give up 300 range of extra safety so you can be close enough to autofire.

this is off the top of my head.

More town clothes?

If you have a sylvari, the Cooks Clothing from the gem store actually looks pretty good imo. I have it on my female vari, dyed in leafy greens.

Yes, they do need to give us a zillion town clothes options. Over time, I sooo hope they do.

my opinion of the sylvari chef outfit is just the opposite.

it looks nothing like a chef outfit……..>at all<

being a chef irl, i would love to have purchased the chef outfit for my sylvari, but it looks like a bad set of cultural armor. sylvari already have an avenue to purchase the cultural armor if you want that look. why anet robbed all sylvari players (and no other race) of the opportunity to look like a chef is beyond baffling.

well, it doesnt take sherlock holmes to see that the population has greatly decreased in the last few weeks.

to say otherwise is not being objective or just being oblivious to your surroundings.

even lions arch can only maintain overflow during peak hours. there isnt an overflow in any other zone at any point of the day. WvW never has a wait to get in except for a few hours when a new pairing begins. sPvP is a ghost town. Even during peak hours, the majority of games i hot join are 1 v1….

at the end of the day its just minor regeneration.

you arent outhealing any equal level damage source save some tank build enemy. regen or healing for 500 +300+100 every couple seconds wont keep you alive vs getting hit for 5000 + 1000 + 300+300 in the same time frame.

Proper dodging > than any healing .

Looking For Constructive Critisism

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Malvagite.3254

Malvagite.3254

full blown crit doesnt work for every class. you need the traits/skills to act as your defense since your gear has none and not every class has their main defense there.

Thieves work well, thier defense is dodging and energy gain to keep dodging. but even then they rely on traiting into stealth or acrobatics for the dodge bonuses.

a full blown crit thief not specced into either of those lines is still going to die far more than the extra damage they get from that gear choice is worth to the party that has to play with them.

only with the old dungeon tokens.

at least then you are guarenteed to get them for known time spent.

WvW? hell no, the token drop rate is so bad now you can play for 3 hours and not even loot 10 tokens at times.

What's happening to the price of gems?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Malvagite.3254

So, the gems used to cost about 60s and now reached 1g40s, i understand that due to the events(lost shores + black friday) there should be a demand for gems but this is really becoming too expensive to buy with gold.

well, i have bad news for you. those gems need to hit about 10 gold per gem before people will start buying them more often with cash.

and thats what matters.

buying gems with gold doesnt pay the bills and is not a concern to anet or to people that actually spend money on this game.
