All of your friends are killed by zombies and you spend the last part of the game grinding through an endless grey wasteland seeking revenge on the evil that wronged you.
I have no trouble at all RPing my character’s darker tendencies.
Level 80, Thief 10/10
I was sympathetic until you started HAHAHAing at someone who enjoys the questing in this game. Now its obvious your just a troll. Hearts are not quests at all. DE’s are the only quests in this game.
Hearts were only added as an after thought because players wanted a bit of guidance in the zone. So, really, the hearts are just map locations that reward a bit extra with extra effort. Dynamic Events are the primary quests in this game and they are the only part that should ever be expanded or worked on. Personally I find them bloody brilliant and is the first time I have felt a part of the game world in an MMO in years.
Hearts already perfectly serve their ONLY purpose which is to attract players to map locations where the REAL quests spawn: Dynamic Events.
Hold right mouse button to aim look. Try rebinding some keys. I put dodge, weapon swap, #1 attack and heal skill on my mouse. Then the 4 other weapon skills are Q, E, R, T. Then my utilites are 1-4 and class skills are 5-8.
Why does no one on these forums believe in TL:DR.
I only read the first couple paragraphs, but it generally comes down to common human decency. If someone is having fun you don’t shoot them down but if someone is not having fun the decent thing to do is try and help them enjoy themselves. So comparing the two and saying both are bad is kinda stupid.
Its like if you go to a baseball game in your football jersey spend the whole time checking football stats them complain after 2 hours that no one in this game can a make a touchdown. I would feel bad you are not enjoying the experience. So, of course, I am going to try and help you better understand baseball and how to enjoy it properly. That’s just the right thing to do.
Guilds can do whatever they want I guess. However, they can suck it IMO. I will during guild activities but I have different guilds for different activities. Anyways it’s usually kitten guilds that try to force you to rep them. They are to stupid to set up real guild events so they don’t deserve people sticking around.
Only raided in first bit of Cata. Boring, boring boring. Then came back for Deathwing. Beat him in the Raid Finder, said well I guess thats it…. and left
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/lightnings-blade/Warcraze/simple
And another thing, how the kitten is gating everything off into endless raid tiers that can only be completed so many times a week NOT artificial lengthening?
I mean you want to complain about diminishing returns? The typical end game scenario is do this amount then kitten off till next week. That is the ultimate diminished return. You can literally only accomplish so much each week after which your reward drops to 0!
This game lets you grind as much or as little as you want and like a child let loose in a candy store you gorge yourselves then complain about the stomach ache.
Also I get the feeling all this “end-game” anger is just cover for typical MMO regulars wanting typical MMO content. The grindy kitten is there for you guys, its not there for me. I hate tiered content. For two expansions in a row in WoW I hit level cap and lost interest almost immediately. Finally, a game for me to just fart around in so stop trying to bring it down, your typical content will be out next week.
I don’t understand a max toon in max gear killing regular mobs. In most games top tier gear lets you near one-shot regular mobs. Not mention he’s like: I can just auto-attack then clicks one of his other attacks and then his heal skill plus dodging whenever its up. I just don’t get it, they are regular mobs.
That was hilarious. I would recommend NOT running in circles and attacking random mobs until you have 10 risen on you. They do have a tendency of going after you when you bomb a group of three then randomly shoot a bunch more without killing the first three.
I have only completed a couple of zones but the greens I got were a couple levels above the level range for the zone. I saw on youtube that that was the general trend. So lets see some proof you are getting low gear and stop whining.
You can spend real money for convenience, as in, it is convenient to never have to play the game and still have the top gear. You will never get better than others through spending real money.
In terms of fixes. I want the Orr events to work all or at least most of the time.
In terms of additions. Multi specs/ gear set tool would be nice. A simple Dungeon finder tool. More events events events! Love ’em so much.
Pffh. Almost no game has this except WoW and it took like 2 expansion to get it. Just submit a report. In most games they give it back to you and if it becomes an actual issue then they will devote resources to creating an option. But right now they have bigger fish to fry other than an extremely rare mistake.
World of Warcraft was awesome. Guild Wars 2 is awesome. I don’t why everyone has to be a hater all the time. It gets really old; the entire MMO community whining all day.
Everyone seems to be looking for some kind of fulfillment that I don’t think any game was ever meant to supply. When I am not raging about it, it just makes me sad.
I noticed this too when dodge tanking the giant bosses. One, you get to dodge more on the tail end of the dodge than the front. You actually even seem to get about a 1/4 second on the ground standing still.
Second, I do see that the animation timing works properly since if you watch it he raises up slowly then pounds down instantly, so you need to dodge before he starts the downward stroke since it is basically instant.
Last, this could just be an issue with lag since I cannot find a way to see my ping in game I cannot tell you how much it is affecting the dodging.
Yep, one-hand shoudl be half the price. I don’t understand why it is not. Its one more slot dual-wielders have to purchase.
I just spent 10 minutes writing this response that explains why it is the details that make something good and simplifying something does not help you understand it. Then the thread got closed so I am posting it here since it does mention some of the details that I really think make this game good.
I hate people who simplify objectives. “Doiy, this game is like all other because it is about doing X to get Y”
The utterly moronic thing is if you take the details out of objectives you can compare anything to anything. In GW2 we do X to get Y. In CoD you do X to get Y. In Scrabble you do X to get Y.
Using algebraic equations simplifies something to its basic components and in that sense everything humanity creates is all the same. At my job, I do X to get Y.
WoW: DO “complete quests” GET “experience”
Rift: DO “complete quests” GET “experience”
GW2: DO “complete events” GET “experience”
Scrabble: DO “create words from letters” GET “points”
ALL GAMES: DO “play the game” GET “fun”
The point is that the details are what separates anything in existence from anything else, so taking them out does not make you smart and it does not give any kind of picture of what an experience is like.
The details of this game are brilliant. The variety of the scenery, the NPC’s that start up conversations that lead to events, the layout of the terrain and engaging story. The way my character really feels like he has weight and falls flat on his face if I jump from too high. The details are what separate good from bad.
…rinse repeat with almost zero downtime. If you’re lucky, you can get a 6th right next to it…
…completing those 2 events will net you 6 event completion (and reward)…
…I’ve been on this map 1 week now…
…Try that for 3 or 4 rotations and let me know how you go…
I think I am ok with diminishing returns after 3-4 “rotations” of 5+ events. Especially since you only need to log out for 30 minutes to reset it. It would be even better if you can do sPvP for 30 minutes between “rotations” to reset. Or if you just leave the zone for 30 minutes and that would be perfect.
Of course, bots will just learn these rules and automate whatever is required, but we all know you cannot stop a determined gold farmer.
However, Anet, will just have to learn that little tidbit for themselves.

Yea like EVE has, that would be nice. When you start thinking about guilds as Corporations and put priorities on hierarchies and communication and resource management. kitten gets real.
In Lion’s Arch I found a secret underwater cave filled with old shipwrecks. Besides a couple of fish there was nothing down there, not even a point of interest. It was so still.
The creepy vibe sent my imagination groping out into the depths crafting all the people that once bustled over those lifeless decks. Easily my most memorable moment.
I have never had a good experience with a magic find mechanic. It is just a god awful thing to include in a game. I already hate juggling multiple gear sets, but then dumping magic find crap on top of that just pisses me off.
I really doubt players that don’t have much time to invest will ever deal with this system when it is functioning correctly. Most likely it will be at least 10+ runs in an hour.
For the love of Zhaitan, please close this thread!
The only evidence for his argument is a bug. You are not supposed to run into diminishing returns during normal play.
IT IS A BUG, not a conspiracy.
Did they say it was a bug? Asking out of curiosity.

Exclamations are not always negative. Lots of people use curse words to display pleasure.

Yeah, i found all three of the Orrian areas to be the least inspired/inspiring of the whole game. The mobs are just evenly spaced across all the terrain, there’s only one KIND of mob (undead), and the events seem to be more rare here than any other zone.
The terrain itself is just sort of “blah” and completely inartistic and non-beautiful, unlike the way the rest of the game is.
After 100 hours getting to lvl 70, i honestly expected more when I got to “home plate” so to speak.
It used to be a massive city and kingdom that was blown up and swallowed by the oceans, raised as an undead capitol by Zhaitan. It’s not meant to be pretty or beautiful.
Yea, but does that mean there needs to be undead spaced exactly 5 feet all over the map just standing there? I find it surprisingly beautiful for what it is, but the events and mobs feel kinda last minute.
The thing that wrecks Orr most is all thekittenglitches, they really need to be fixed.
Yes, yes yes. I refuse to go through these zones until they are not completely borked. I don’t like the idea of having to push past the front lines to skip to the next zone.
Are you level 80 in full exotics? He is. Also, backstab is double damage from behind and I doubt that is even a crit.
Good job, you have eaten up all the content. When a game gets boring, that means its time to move on. I’m not really sure what else you are expecting here…
WvWvW has great potential, so do dungeons. I was just expecting them to be better, more fun. If they were, I’d keep playing for at least five or six months. I’m still around because I’m still expecting ANet to improve these two fundamental events of endgame.
Woah woah woah. I kitten love WvWvW. I don’t really know what you want out of duneons other than “Epics”, which will never happen unless Anet caves hardcore to standard MMO design. But WvWvW is bloody brilliant.
Of course, once we figured it out, it was a joke.
CoF magg’s path was a joke too, and you know what happened.
Blizzard did the same mistake with Diablo 3, tried to make players play the game the way Blizzard wants, ANet is trying to do the same it will end up exactly the same.
There is nothing wrong with D3. I got exactly what I wanted out of that game. I played and beat the final boss and that was it. I thought the story was a bit lack luster, but what can you say; third installments are always the worst. Look at godkittenReturn of the Jedi, gorram ewoks.
Nevertheless, I still got around 40 hours out of D3 so I was happy. It’s still cheaper than a movie.
I’m under 350 hours and bored. Details are below:
I have two crafting professions leveled to 400. You might say I should level all professions to 400. Here is my answer:
It cost me 7g to level weaponsmithing from level 1 to level 400, ‘without any gathering, farming’. So I’ve bought all materials from TP and it still cost me 7g. I have 25g atm so I can have four other professions maximum leveled if I farm 3g more. I wouldn’t do this, because this is repetition.
I have 100% world completion.
I have full exotic gear. Armor, weapons, accessories. You might say I should start collecting skins. I already have a bunch of dungeon skins and I don’t wanna get more, because it is nothing but just repetition.
No need to mention level 80.
You might say I should do all dungeons’ explorable modes and I say no, because it is nearly impossible with casual players. Not blaming them though, dungeons are designed for leets only.
You might say I should craft a legendary. I already have bloodstone shard and two gift recipes, as well as two gifts of exploration. I can farm 525k karma for obsidian shards but I wouldn’t do that because it is repetition. I can’t farm 350g because CoF got nerfed and even if it weren’t, it was still repetition.
Good job, you have eaten up all the content. When a game gets boring, that means its time to move on. I’m not really sure what else you are expecting here…
Even Skyrim gets boring. Even FFVII got boring. I can only watch the same movie so many times before it gets boring. This does not mean that any of these things are bad or poorly designed, it just means you have gotten all you can out them.
The sad part is the only reason dungeons are not fun is that most people are not willing to invest time in learning the new mechanics of the new trinity.
I remember back in the day I used to hate Wailing Caverns. It was bullkitten, the mobs hit too hard and no one knew what they were doing and we wiped and wiped and wiped. The reason was that that game had brought a lot of new people, including me, to MMO’s so we did not know how the trinity worked.
Of course, once we figured it out, it was a joke. All the fights in the game turned into the same 3 or 4 basic mechanics. That’s where we got the traditional “tank and spank” strat from back when it was new and shiny.
I know its hard. There is so much new in this game. So much new when you haven’t played anything new in years. The dungeon strats make no sense because they are all fresh to you and the rewards don’t feel rewarding because even the reward system still has the cellophane on it.
So there is going to be some transitioning, but honestly tough nuts! I hated the Tier system and I am not only one that is happy to see it go the way of the dinosaur. If you can’t handle it, then too bad for you.
Dungeons are like raids in other games. They are supposed to cost you money in exchange for better gear. Since the only better gear in this game is aesthetic many people don’t want to run them since they cannot get out of the mindset of bigger numbers = fun.
In short, if you believe that the only reward in a game is bigger and bigger numbers then this game is not for you.
How lvl80 killed the game for me {spoilers and belligerant rant included}

Sorry to see you go, buddy. But it has been stated since day one that top tier gear is a single tier that changes only aesthetically. They are trying something new instead of copying the same old same old tier after tier raid system.
A lot of people like aesthetics and it has always been one of my ideas for how to provide for the grinder and still bring balance and fun to MMO endgame so I am just happy to have a working example. However, it obviously will put off a portion of the community no matter how well implemented.
thiefs are designed to be mage/ ranged user killers. thats their roll in most games. make a warrior or guardian and its a very differnt game against thiefs.
thiefs are the most fragile class and have to actually get to you to do damage. if a ranger or ele did the same damage from a distance how would that be fair?
Yep, my thief gets rolled hard by warriors and guardians. I just have to breath and tell myself my job is to find that necro in the back and beat him up. Lol, poor necros.
Or just a massive zone wide call to arms would be nice. I have yet to fight a single dragon and I’m at 80. Where are they all hiding?
