impossible to argue with 99% of misinformed people… I guess this really bad communication on Anets side about this costs them quite a few customers.

If the only point to the dungeon was to get gear to go further into the dungeon then why play it? That’s not the case, there will be high-end rewards that are not related solely to the dungeon. And to get to them you need to get to the higher levels of the dungeon requiring as much infusion as you can get.

I say nonsense. Can you give me a source for that?

“As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content).”

of course they roll out new items… but where is written that this items are new-dungeon only? he even wrote: “to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content” (-> all of the content, not new-dungeon content only). This is what I get from this.

+ read this:
“Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward.”

thank you, with this post in combination with using my brain when reading the blog post (again with a cooled head) it actually isn’t half as bad as it looks like. Infact I like it now, let’s see how Ascended gear will be integrated into the game.

bottom line, I agree: it’s by no means a gear-treadmill.

If you look at the stats on the ascended ring vs. the exotic ring…the stats on the ascended are significantly better than the exotic, even considering the gem slotted.

yes they are. This should be normal for a new tier. But as we’ve seen it’s relatively easy to get a new tier item in GW2. In other games you have to run raids for weeks in order to get one, not so here. Who says that this will be different with Ascended items?

The infusions are where the “long lasting” progression is, I think. These make this one dungeon extreme long-lasting but it doesn’t interfere with the content outside of it, am I right?

so we probably get the new tier ring as quickly as it took to get the Exotics, but we do this dungeon again and again (which schould be very varied, since you’ll get a random dungeon part out of a pretty nice pool of dungeon-parts) in order to be able to get deeper into the dungeon.

what if…

… the ring will be given as soon as you enter the new dungeon. The only upgrades you get are the infusion-parts (which only make you more effective in this specific dungeon). It would make sense: playing on an equal level with an increasing infusion-thingy.

Ascended items are a new tier and a new tier has constant stats. There is no good and better Exotic gear, am I right?

I read the blogpost again and noticed a little detail:

Ascended items (rings, backback) do not have a rune-slot. Rune-stats are worked into the item.

So unless you want to spec for a very specific way these items might not be as useful as one might think. Technically the new tier has better stats, (which is normal for a new tier) BUT those stats are given and can’t necessarily be individualized to go well with your build. You might want an Exotic Ring instead of a Ascended, depending on your build.

It’s bad though that it looks like we have to go to the new dungeon in order to get the Ascended Ring in the first place. The mats for infusion are probably the rewards for getting farther in the dungeon (which would make sense) and balancing will be much easier for Anet if the players stats aren’t random but given (through the new Ascended items) —> much easier to finetune difficulty for really difficult encounters.

You know, there is this design decision about horizontal progression. There is this thing about dungeons which lets them be challenging as initially designed, even later on.

where is it?

method 1: to introduce progression: add vertical progression – everybody wants to have the best stats, even if they choose not to do dungeons e.g. —> people are sad, they feel betrayed

sideeffect: dungeons become trivial, the better you become
sideeffect: the content for good players who need a challenge becomes less – the “endgame” dungeons are the only place to feel challenged

method 2: introduce interesting horizontal rewards which everybody wants. (e.g. customization of skill-animations like the sPvP finishers) Add some different ways to achieve those. —> people are happy, they get what they expected (cosmetical rewards)

sideeffect: dungeons have the dificulty they are designed for and won’t get trivialized
sideeffect: new content can be more difficult because of more enemies, more traps, interesting new mechanics,… not because the same number of enemies have better stats.
sideeffect: more content for players who want a challenge. Challenging events/champions stay challenging + you get the new content updates added to this.

+ Anet should increase the rewards for doing lower level zones (so that people don’t feel pushed to orr and other high level zones; content everywhere should feel rewarding)

the thing I don’t understand: why do we need better gear in order to cope with a harder getting dungeon? Shouldn’t skill be the factor you need to increase. I always loved the fact that exotic gear is easy to get so everybody gets hold of it relatively soon and then only skill is the important factor.

…and it would work so well with the new dungeon: More spawns, harder bossfights,… but still the same gear. Now the people who need more challenge actually get it without trivializing the other content.

.progression of ability animations…you could have that fire mage do the same damage and ability as a level 1 dude…but doing x dungeon allows that fire spell to have some totally new and kick kitten animation. Combine that with better cosmetic looking stuff and leaderboards…suddenly your PvE scene is ROCKIN!

I love this idea. Even if there is no room for new animations, a new colored fireball for example would make me go in there again and again and again. Use this in WvW and the other guy lying at your feet knows: this dude hasn’t better stats than me, but he is a hell of a PvEer.

and now I’m wondering why some things (like today’s patch on the high droprate of unidentified dye) are being patched extremely fast and others like our little problem here take quite a time (was it October 15th when a dev responded to this first?).

I guess it is all about priorities…

if there is no answer for this, should he write a support-ticket or should he simply do a bug-report ingame? I guess on the later he won’t get direct help?! I’m sorry for him since he misses tons of ressources :-/

edit: for further clarification: I’m not sure if my friend was in WvW during the last matchup. Do you have to participate in WvW in order to get the bonuses? Do you have to get at least one event done in WvW? He accompanied me a month ago once but never came back to WvW after that. Most of my friends won’t even try WvW because they hated any form of PvP in other games.

no we were next to each other in a zone (lv.60-70). I could see the mouse-over bonuses, he couldn’t. I don’t believe that it’s a display error since he has never experienced a “double gathering” on any of the wood/ore/herb nodes.

hi guys!

Yesterday when I played alongside my friend (we played in a PvE-map because he hates any form of PvP) he noticed that I occasionally gathered some mining nodes 2 or even 3 times. He told me that he haven’t had this experience yet. Although he goes for almost each and every single node he couldn’t gather something twice at all. He is currently lv.68.

When I told him of the chance of 15% gathering success he had no clue what I was talking about. I mentioned the mouse-over info of all the WvW bonuses… he has no such thing. When he “mouse-overs” the WvW button the only thing he can see is: “World vs. World [B]” (the same thing I see only when a battle is reset).

can anyone help, please?

I took part in the Shatterer-Event yesterday for the first time… can’t say that I loved it :-/ I’m sure we weren’t more than 100 people, the dragon wen’t down pretty fast. I couldn’t see any of the crystals-mechanic (perhaps more players are needed for this to happen) and the battle wasn’t challenging at all.

Shouldn’t a champion of an Elder Dragon feel a bit more difficult to defeat than a random champion? Not sure if it was a scaling problem and others experience an awesaome fantastic battle. Personally I have a harder time fighting 5 random mobs than I had fighting the Shatterer. I don’t care about loot, the experience felt shallow.

during the beta there was a time when there was this big fire elemental in metrica province which felt really epic to me. It was probably too hard and a bit bugged, but I think the number of people dropping should be more in this direction…

my friend tried the first two dungeons (from others he heard that those are the most interesting) and was disappointed of the boss mechanics. They aren’t interesting he says.

…well I think they are, but it depends: I played it with some guys who knew how to play and it looked quite interesting. Then I ran the same dungeon with other people (who were there for the first time) and we died… but we simply ran back and continued the fight. We found ourselves ignoring the mechanics because it didn’t matter anyway.

the first experience was great
the second (in the same dungeon): not so much

I wished there was no graveyard-rushing…

Q: If you put down a combo-field and someone else is doing the finisher, who’s boon will be applied?

A lot of people see the healing spring for ranger as mandatory to bring in dungeons. Isn’t the regeneration it applies simply too weak if you, as a ranger, never touched the +healing-power stat? Won’t the healing from the leap of a DPS-specced allie into my water field be too weak?

there is something like a racetrack in Lions Arch, looks like a Moa-Race to me.

a bit disappointed that only one was available at launch, but it’s probably my own fault. Expectations were pretty high. Well, the game isn’t boring any time soon for me, so no problem I guess. ^^

they talked about 30 minigames… I wonder in which rate those are opened and if they are hold back intentionally (until most bugs are gone) or if these are simply not finished.

yeah I’m disappointed too about the lack of things happening in there. + it isn’t encouraging to go there if there is no direct teleport to it. Would be nice to have a free port to it imho.

As someone who followed GW2 a few years and read every new blogpost I wonder where the 30 minigames / activities are. (among other things, like mentioned below) The only one I could find (and love very much) is Kegbrawl, I found some hints to a Polymock-arena, a racetrack in LA and a character in Hoelbrack who tells us that a certain person is missing for something to happen.

I always thought they release the game when it’s ready, but the more I think of it, the more I think it looks a bit rushed.

What happened to the importance of the home instance. I finished the story step with the minor race and was very disappointed that no meaningful thing had changed since lv.1. There are a few NPCs standing there having nothing to say… no new vendor etc. I have no incentive to coming back to “my” home instance. :-/

It’s weird, because there are so many little details in the game. What happened?

1. The ‘+ condition damage’ is basically ANY condition that deals damage, poison, burn etc.

2. The traits, well can you be more specific of which traits? But i’m pretty sure it’s talking about when the clones die, as in killed by another player/creature.

3. The random condition is random, it could be any condition, but it tends to be a burn or poison/cripple.

1.) well confusion technically doesn’t deal damage if the enemy uses no skills (e.g. runs away), but isn’t confusion influenced by this too?

it seems confusion works outside the game too, I’m having a hard time to find out how things work:

1.) which conditions are influenced by the stat “+ condition damage”? Is the percentage of damage from vulnerability increased?

2.) Traits that end with “… when they are killed”: what does this mean for the clones? Is a clone killed when you remove him by sending in new clones?

3. ) “Debilitating Dissipation” – clones apply a random condition when they are killed. Can anyone clarify which conditions?

Personally I think this should be answered in the tool-tips.
