Wasn’t quite sure where to post this, but here it goes.
I was looking back at the announcement trailer—specifically for the Engineer Specialization—and I was wondering about the gear that the hammer-wielding Engineer was wearing. The armor generally looks like Magitech (which I already have unlocked), but the helm definitely isn’t the one from that set. Anyone have any idea of what helm skin he’s wearing?
And, if it’s not currently in game, I would totally buy it if it somehow wound up in the gem store (just throwing that out there, anet)

Quad Turret Clerics (or settlers) Engi here (for spvp only)… Yeah, I stomp people, and I get stomped too (that’s how pvp works). I also know how to counter quad turret engineers (dude, just push/pull/fear/knock back them away from their turrets, it’s not that hard—it’s not like they run a lot of stability).
As for getting trolled? I usually supply a snarky rebuttal (usually in the form of a /bow), and if it continues-> Wish them a nice day, then block and report them. It’s not hard.
I run a completely different build for wvwvw (working on settlers with grenades and bombs to see how it works), but I enjoy the turret build for spvp. It’s actually not an easy one to play consistently well against good opponents.
Rabid is in my opinion a much better than settler becouse the damage is really much higher
I disagree, at least as far as spvp is concerned. What I sacrifice in dps is made up for in staying power. I’ve been able to told points against 3 foes until allies show up—which is pretty helpful with inattentive pugs.
For WvWvW, I’m working some support in to my build with elixer-infused bombs.

Top is how my Asura Engineer looks now. Nothing fancy, just Magitech Armor, Pact Shield, and a Pistol Skin I can’t remember the name of.
Bottom is how he used to look, which is a combo of Magitech, CoF and SE armor with dual Primordus Pistols
I find my ranger to be really useful in large wvwvw fights, especially when it comes to assaulting towers/keeps/stonemist.
So many loot bags…
I’m tight-lipped about my flametank build (I don’t want anyone to use it against me in wvwvw), but I will say that it focuses on the juggernaut trait and has more healing power than condition damage.
I play a perfectly viable flametank in wvwvw. I have no idea what everyone is kittening about.
You are not alone. Many members of my guild in Gunnar’s Hold (Europe) are having the same problem.
I heard some hacker group attacked the Europe Servers. Can we get a confirm on this? or at least some explanation?
Uncapping AoE would be interesting, but then you would definitely see a rise in elementalists and nade-spamming engineers.
When they balanced the classes (and nerfed AoE), they made zerging more essential to WvWvW dominance.
Well, I’m off for the night. Defending DB Garrison with Krew was the best WvWvW time I’ve had in a good long while.
I don’t know what you guys are talking about in terms of it being overly hard to kill people in zerg groups. If I see an enemy player trying to revive a downed ally, I go all tanktastic, put on my flamethrower, knock the reviver back and finish off the other player. If they rally then whatever, I can down them again, or, if they run away (they probably run away after a rally to lick their wounds) I can continue to try to keep the zerg back.
WvWvW is all about capturing objectives, amassing points, and taking the long view of a conflict. If you’re grousing about missing one or two kills, you’re missing the point.
I love the look of my Charr Engineer in full Melandru (except boots, and I never show the helm) armor.
I figured engineers were the best fit for the Iron Legion (my Charr is an Engineer). I don’t get why any of the magic classes would be. Just from the pre-release lore on the Charr, the non-Flame Legion Charr seem very distrustful of magic and magic users. Maybe I’m being too simplistic, but I just don’t see how the scholar classes fit in with the playable Charr Legions
I am also a former Krew member who moved over to FIST. We are definitely a core group of devoted WvWvW players, and I look forward to developing new mixed-unit tactics to improve the ranking of Borlis Pass.
This is definitely the group to get that done.
@ Netglen
Engineers don’t get weapon swapping. We have kits instead
Sorry, I didn’t realize that shrapnel mine was a racial skill and not an engineer skill. Elixer B would be really useful for PvE as well.
@Kimbald
I don’t see how the rifle isn’t used for “long range” though. It has a range of 900 (1200 with rifled barrels trait) for its 1 & 2 skills, a short ranged burst damage skill (3), a gap creator (4), and an escape (5).
All of the skills are designed to deal damage and keep enemies at a distance while punishing them if they get too close.
And I am not against small tweaks (I would love it if I didn’t lose my rifle stats when I switched to flamethrower), but completely changing the skills of one of the two weapons engineers can use to accommodate people who can’t (or don’t want to) build their playstyle around the profession that actually exists in the game is just silly.
And yes, changing the focus of rifle skills is a big change, not a small tweak.
Classes exist the way they do because the creators of the game had something specific in mind when they made it. If you want the class to conform to your playstyle, you should really consider a game with an open-class character system.
Frankly, I love playing a medium to short range engineer. In WvWvW, I love love love the flamethrower (can knock people off of gates, for one thing), and playing elixer heavy makes you very, very durable (assuming you have the toughness to back it up).
My best build for PvE is rifle, healing turret, shrapnel mine, thumper turret, flame thrower, and supply drop.
I open with the rifle (especially with the rifled barrels trait), kite with rifle skills and shrapnel mine, then drop the thumer turret and switch to the flamethrower for close range, using knock backs to keep stronger melee mobs off of me. I use the supply drop mainly for large groups and bosses (it’s a great AoE stun and the net turret is really useful). I also built pretty tanky, so there’s that.
I actually rarely touch grenades on my engineer. I usually pull and kite with my rifle and mop them up with my flamethrower, but I love switching up my build as the situation requires (Elixer gun for support, turrets, etc). I would like to keep the weapon stats when I switch to flamethrower though, but they seem to be working on that.
I really liked that starting area and the race aesthetic, personally. That and the furriness reminds me of me (jk, or am I?)
Does anyone know what exactly the choices effect? I mean I know there’s the three bars for dignity, ferocity, and charm, but do those have effects themselves? I swear I noticed some of my characters saying different things when just randomly doing stuff out in the world, but I’ve never been entirely sure if by chance I’d just never noticed those exclamations before.
I’m pretty sure that that it’s just cosmetic, or opens different conversation nodes later in the game. I don’t think it affects actual gameplay.
My Charr Engineer is “Diplomatic” (charisma/dignity).
I like the outmanned buff… it makes farming supply camps so, so profitable if you can avoid the inevitable swarm of angry defenders.
I once made 60 silver in an hour doing just that.
So, I have somewhat of a penchant for weird builds (I run a tanky, toughness + power-based engineer [rifle/flamethrower] as my main), and I decided that I want to base my new Guardian (level 40 as of now) on critical damage and condition duration (specifically burns). I’m gearing (and with my traits) primarily for precision and power with just enough vitality and toughness to not be completely glass cannon (you know, have some sort of survivability). My weapons of choice are greatsword and scepter/focus.
My question is: Does this kind of build make any sense what so ever? or am I just going to have to respec as the content actually gets somewhat challenging.
P.S.- So far, my only deaths have been in WvWvW and PvE that is 3-5 levels above my level. I don’t SPvP
Strangely enough, I find that I often get focused down in WvWvW as much a I do in PvE. Maybe people are paranoid that I’ll overcharged shot them off of a cliff or something… or they hate my toughness + flamethrower build. :-P
