Florida was a swamp all throughout the panhandle. Kryta used to be a jungle/swamp. They cut down the trees and irrigated out the water to use for growing crops. It’s not a matter of a changed aesthetic, it’s a matter of what would realistically happen if you plant a massive capital dead in the heart of the swamp and then cut down the trees and pump out the water.

I run a condition build Ranger with nothing but Power/Precision/Condi and some Crit %. If you know the fights well enough and know when to dodge and use your evades and blocks, for the most part you don’t NEED toughness and vit, it’s just nice to have.

I can’t really think of a fight where I really really wished I had vit and toughness because it would have made the fight noticeably easier.

Time to dash some dreams:

Mike O’Brien (CEO of ArenaNet) wrote:

Two things:

Guild capes, but I get why they don’t have them. Those things would clip like a motherkittener and would look ridiculous on some of the armor sets, so if they do ever add them in I hope they do it right instead of just settling with the clipping we’re bound to see otherwise.

Dervish. I want nothing more than my Dervish back. I know, lore-wise, it is impossible and that I’ll probably never get back my Dervish but good God the money I’d pay to see my Dervish rendered in this beautifully revamped engine using his scythe with this game ridiculously good animations.

Say Goodbye to Pugs

Mega Messiah.1734

First and foremost, this is the first patch of many in terms of dungeon mechanic changes, given the fact that they literally just posted a new article on the home page talking about Phase 2 of the dungeon changes.

Secondly, rez-rushing is a stupid design and shouldn’t have made it past Beta. The fact is, it kills the entire sense of purpose of dungeons if someone can just run back continuously. It’s a useless mechanic and, in conjunction with the current boss changes (especially the ones that were notorious for rez rushing: Destroyer, Ralena and Vassar, Subject Alpha, etc.), shouldn’t be too much of a problem as long as you take the time to thoroughly explain the boss mechanics to any new players.

Lastly, it’s their game. So for them to “tyrannically” change the way you play is apropos of a new menu at a restaurant “tyrannically” changing the way you order from them. If you don’t like the new menu, leave. Most people tend to try something new.

The fact is the game is in a state where most people don’t even know their classes’ skills, and it’s the ignorance of the players, not the design of the dungeons, that should be taken into question. The sheer number of “Does my class have a combo finisher/field?” in Orr today because of the combo field daily is absolutely ridiculous. People should learn to dodge, to get familiar with their skills, learn to time things, and take the time to explain a bossfight and every single mechanic instead of:

“Boss stands in mid, throws out some aoe. dodge it and be rdy for when he does his breath.” or any other terse explanation for a boss.

Also, this patch was literally intended to fix bugs, fix fights, and alter mechanics. Guess what rez-rushing falls under? Altered mechanics because it was a broken one and had every right to be unceremoniously killed off in a righteous fire.

More frames?

in Wintersday

Mega Messiah.1734

I’m definitely hoping they give us the opportunity to get more frames either through the gem store, the toypocalypse event, as a new daily reward for running through already completed workshop dungeons, or maybe as a new Mystic Forge recipe.

Else I’ll have to live without seeing that damn Endless Ventari Toy Tonic in my bank.

Request for Toy Frames as a Reward

in Wintersday

Posted by: Mega Messiah.1734

Mega Messiah.1734

By now it’s becoming less and less of a secret that you can combine:

1 Toy Frame
50 Enchanted Stuffing
50 Drops of Magic Glue
1 Pile of Glittering Dust

…for a chance to get an endless tonic that corresponds to the frame you used (i.e., if you combine those 3 items with the princess doll frame, there’s a chance you get an Endless Princess Doll Tonic).

However, some of us have used these frames early on when we got our 250 Mystic Cogs to make the first toy or combined the 4 Endless Tonics we’ve gotten in the Mystic Forge only to get something other than the Endless Toymaker’s Tonic (I didn’t, but other people have. Still not the issue.) What I ask is not for more Mystic Cogs or the ability to make more than two pets, only that we get more FRAMES (which are useless without cogs) in order to experiment with the Endless Tonic recipees and also to be able to get the Endless Tonics of the pets we already crafted.

I don’t mind having to buy them for, say, 100 gems on the Black Lion Market, but other ways they could be obtained include:

- As a daily reward for the Toypocalypse. (One choice of frame per day; again, NOT cogs)
- As a reward for repeated attempts of the Machinarium after Tixx arrives in Lion’s Arch (This would encourage people to run the dungeons from the previous days, and the frame rewarded would correspond to the city’s dungeon being run).

I’m more than willing to pick up the toy pets from the gem store for the 350, I just want the opportunity to get the Endless Ventari Toy Tonic that I inadvertantly screwed myself out of before finding out this recipee existed.

I’m hoping people who want more frames will use this to consolidate their concerns and wishes, because let’s face it: if people hadn’t have risked their frames in the first place, we might never have found out about these tonics, so it’s only fair that people like those who combined the 4 endless tonics, willingly risking all 4 tonics and those frames, be rewarded for their risk, not hampered by the fact that they get 1 tonic they could have gotten tomorrow.

Gift Stopper Achievement

in Wintersday

Posted by: Mega Messiah.1734

Mega Messiah.1734

To do Gift Stopper, all you have to do is cause a person to drop the gift by making them go down and, more than likely, you have to be the hit that causes them to go down.

The easiest way I found to do it was to just go Scout and when you see a gift carrier try and run off solo, stealth, use your 4 ability, blow up his HP, and then finish him off. You’ll not only buy your team time, but they’ll hardly have any time to react to him dying in seconds (obviously don’t do this if he’s surrounded by 4 escorts solo, else they’ll just blow you up).

Mega Messiah.1734

I understand the need to make money off of gem purchases and, by having something that is locked away within a “lottery box” so to speak, I know that you guys must be raking it in with the money people are spending just to try getting 6 of the mini pets (3 to keep and 3 to put in the Mystic Forge).

That said, I implore you to please reconsider putting them back into their own separate item and just mark up the price. I’d be more than willing to pay double or even triple what I spent in gems on the mini pets as long as I didn’t have to cross my fingers and pray I ended up getting the pets.

I’m glad you guys went this route with the weapon skins, but please don’t make us OCD pet collectors struggle to resist the temptation to try one. more. time.

Winter Wonderland Jumping Puzzle Debacle

in Wintersday

Posted by: Mega Messiah.1734

Mega Messiah.1734

I managed to clear this in literally my first attempt within 5 minutes of the puzzle releasing.

I was disappointed that it was so easy. That being said, it REALLY isn’t harder than the Mad King’s Clocktower. For one thing, they split the players between 3 distinct platforms and, by the time you get to the parts where they merge, most people should have fallen, making the traffic a lot lighter. The design is also a lot more open, rather than having you deal with half your screen being covered by a tower.

It’s not that bad. If anything, they listened to all the feedback, but these things should retain SOME challenge, not be a linear hop between some slightly skewed snowflakes.

Clock Tower Appreciation Thread :D

Mega Messiah.1734

I enjoyed the Clock Tower jumping puzzle. It was, at first, challenging and difficult compared to the other jumping puzzles this game had thrown at me.

That said, what is likely over 50+ clears of it later, I really wish you guys would add in a harder version of the puzzle. Maybe have the ooze come up slightly faster so that there’s almost no room for error or have projectiles be flung at you. Another idea I had was to have the platforms that you jump on be moving back and forth to make landing on them more difficult.

I know this will sound like a troll post, because many people find this jumping puzzle already incredibly difficult, but I wouldn’t mind if it was even harder. That said, for what it’s worth, and how it’s presented in its present state, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ranger SB Nerf: Not 40 milliseconds

in Ranger

Posted by: Mega Messiah.1734

Mega Messiah.1734

Can we get a response on this soon? Is it so hard to give us a status report or even some semblance of communication in the form of “Hey, we’re still looking into it!” or maybe come out and say it was a nerf that wasn’t announced in the patch notes.

Either way, I don’t care. I love my ranger, but I find it ridiculous that our best (and, only viable) ranged option was so summarily nerfed into dust by a FOURTH of its damage output. That’s ridiculous given the raw damage output of a Warrior’s rifle combined with the fact that they don’t even need to friggin position themselves for bleeds.

So please, can we get a status report on this ASAP? I really don’t like posting on forums because they tend to be a cesspool of insults and villainy, but this is ridiculous. How does 40 milliseconds (40 thousandths of a second!?) translate into a 25% speed firing rate reduction.

Its been 2 days since “I’ll look into it on the live client.” was posted here. It takes 2 minutes to notice. Can you guys please get around to giving us a status report? I would definitely (and I’m sure basically every other person here) would definitely appreciate this.

If it was a nerf then fine. We’re all big boys and girls (most of us anyways); we can handle the news. Albeit it was an unnecessary nerf, but by all means if it WAS a nerf and not just a screw up, then tell us. Otherwise, please get around to letting us know what the deal is with our Shortbows.

Thanks.

GW2 Dungeons need re-balancing, imo

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Mega Messiah.1734

It’s pretty easy to beat Explorable Modes. All you have to do is follow these 5 simple rules:

1) Pay attention. EVERY SINGLE BOSS in this game telegraphs their attacks. You can say all you want that “they’re too subtle” or “they’re too fast” but the fact of the matter is, they’re all telegraphed, whether it’s the Flame Effigy rearing back before he uses his flamethrower in the first path in CoF EM or the Destroyer of Worlds bundling himself up before pulling you all in, everything is telegraphed. Your inability to pay attention and react accordingly should result in you going down because, what the hay, you weren’t good enough to avoid the attacks.

2) Coordination is King. You cannot assume everyone knows the fights unless they explicitly have told you they’ve done them, nor can you try and play the hero. Everyone has to work together. Call out targets to focus fire, try and use attack combos effectively, stack boons at opportune times to help benefit the group and, if need be, use some form of voice communication.

3) Don’t be the hero. If that means that you have to sacrifice your pretentious little DPS build in order to equip a toughness signet or a move that grants vigor so your endurance will regen faster, then so be it. Rather than simply trying to brute force your way through encounters, analyze what’s happening during them, re-evalute your skills and current trait perks, and readjust accordingly.

4) Two weapons are better than one. If you go into an encounter with 2 melee weapons, there is something wrong with you. You have two weapon sets for a reason. Take a ranged and a melee weapon. Swap them accordingly. React to the boss fights. If he’s wrecking you in melee, then go ranged and start firing away. These bosses don’t exactly have enrage timers. It’s not like DPS is the sole purpose of this game. It’s about group cohesion while breaking the trinity. Every member is responsible for himself and everyone else. It’s something that takes getting used to. Adapt or get annihilated in Explorable Modes.

5) Learn to play. As much as I hate to be “that guy”, it goes without saying that a lot of these encounters, after proper analyzation and enough tries under your belt, are perfectly doable. That said, they shouldn’t be EASY. They’re not supposed to be one shot PuGs that you can do in level 76 blues and greens. This is a part of the PvE ENDGame. You shouldn’t be able to roflstomp all 3 paths, get 180 tokens a day, and then log out only 45 minutes later to watch your favorite TV show. If you don’t want to invest the time for the sets, then who cares? Farm money and buy equivalent exotics. You’re running this for the skins and the achievements. Emphasis on ACHIEVEMENTS. As in, achieving something, rather than having it handed to you. Get better at your class, learn the bossfights, and be quicker on your feet when reacting to boss fights. Are some boss attacks or mob attacks cheap? Absolutely. Could they use some tuning? Sure. But a nerf? A nerf because it’s “too hard”? Has it gotten to the point where we have to pander to everyone playing on a schedule just because they want everything for as little effort as possible? Play storymode if you want some form of PvE dungeons without dying too much.

And in case someone tries tossing out the “You play a Warrior, so you wont go down as much!” card, I play a Ranger using a Shortbow and a Sword/Warhorn in my OH, so I’ve been in my fair share of close quarters encounters. My guild and I wiped PLENTY of times in CoF EM learning the encounters, especially when Magg plants the bomb. We could have cried and run to the forums begging for a nerf, but we learned the encounters instead, nailed down the tactics, and now we can clear something like the Flame Effigy path in ~20 minutes.

Five simple rules.
