I use LoS in Pvp on real players, the real players walk around the corner to come get me..

So…. how is LoS an exploit if real ppl do it and AI does it?

If anet wanted AI to NOT stand in AoE, they would configured them to run out of aoe.

You didn’t get the sarcasm. It’s okay. I’m saying it’s ridiculous when people call corner-stacking the AI by LoSing an exploit. That’s all.

I doubt raids will happen. For one, they’re pretty development heavy for what I’d imagine would be a small portion of this playerbase playing them. Most people already struggle with this game’s dungeons, which are pretty easy, so a raid wouldn’t be touched by a lot of people.

Second, getting people to run raids is another problem. Look at Wildstar, 40 man raids are what everyone wants to do but they’re having huge issues with server pop and 40 man attunements making it almost impossible to get 40 mans cleared.

I’d prefer new dungeons. Easier to make and balance, even if that sense of “raid-scope” is lost.

Soule one listen to this and miss your GW music already. Why the step back backwards musically Anet. Surely Soule doesn’t cost more than an entire orchestra.
Come to think of it living story in general is a step back from Soule.

All of Soule’s new music sounds exactly the same and I’m glad he’s gone. So many medleys in GW2 just recycled from Skyrim. That and the guy’s an awful human being, comparing musical piracy to the Holocaust. What a charmer.

As to the OP’s point: "Bro, I want a wikkid mature story with blud and violence and lawts of dying. GW1 totes didn’t have a bad story! Just look at Togo! What a likable, well voice-acted character, or Shiro, who’s motives of anger and revenge would totally
last hundreds of years because that’s not trite!

Oh man, Kormir accidentally awakens an ancient god? What a klutz, lol XD! And a koooooky undead ruler who we make an allegiance with and keep alive because why not? Makes total sense. Forget the long term, as long as Abaddon dies, I’m sure Palawa Joko won’t do anything bad!

And the Lich. Makes absolute sense for someone to sink an entire continent when they’re invaded and then want to destroy the world. Throw in an ancient scepter? Deal, now we’re dealing with a big baddie who needs an ancient weapon to summon an unstoppable force and, even though his plans ACTUALLY succeed, we stop him anyways cuz we’re just so awesome? Radical!"

I get nostalgia fogging your hindsight up, and God knows I’m not going to sit here revering season 1 of living story as a testament to how video game writing should go, but to sit here and say that GW1’s story was good is awful. Guild Wars has good LORE, but awful stories. The GW1 stories were badly put together set pieces all to stop 3 ancient and/or vengeful unstoppable evils

Don’t lament this music being “wasted” on Season 2 when you know nothing about it. It might suck. And, if it does, then hey, at least we got good music out of it. If it doesn’t, or is a remarkable improvement over Season 1 at the very least, then it just means they did what I’d hope they’d do: take their largely experimental way of delivering content in small, frequent bursts, test it with some randomly shoehorned villain before moving on to a big baddie for us to fight, learn from their mistakes, and now open the floodgates and give us Modremoth. If that’s not what happened? Then at least anything’s better than GW1’s/Living Story 1’s/The last 20% of GW2’s plot lines.

The area we added to Obsidian Sanctum was in progress prior to the incident mentioned above

lol, I’m not buying that.

Much like science, you don’t have to believe it for it to be true.

LMAO, most of science isn’t even true, most of it is comprised of theories, that have not been disproven (or proven for that matter).

Not the same.

The common use of theory, the one you’re using, is just a quick idea that pops into your head that you think has merit or can work for something.

In science, something being called a theory is a concept that has been rigorously tested and, for all intents and purposes, has the best empirical evidence to support it.

They just can’t call it a fact because that would be naiive, since things in science are pretty liquid in the grand scope of things.

But things like the “theory” of evolution or the “theory” of relativity are as close to total truth as scientifically possible.

Molten Facilities and Aetherblade Retreat were nice as long, continuous dungeons but I’m not a big fan of them being fragmented for Fractals.

Aetherpath in TA is pretty nice but, well, that’s one new, from the ground up dungeon since launch. All the AC change did was tweak the fights and give them new mechanics.

So, yeah, new dungeons would be nice.

I mean hell, just one new dungeon with the story/3 path setup would be great. I’m hoping with Maguuma opening up we’ll get Bloodstone Fen since that place is mired in story but who knows? We’ll see.

Mega Messiah.1734

I’m pretty happy Soule is gone.

He makes some beautiful music to be sure but the man uses the same style of medley and rhythm with every single song. I can’t tell you how similar his GW2 music sounds to Skyrim and Oblivion.

Compare that to the music Lief and Maclaine have given us, and I’m pretty happy with the direction they’ve gone. The Wintersday music was great, I absolutely loved the Sanctum Sprint theme, and we would never have gotten anything like Battle of the Breachmaker with Soule still at the helm.

He did a good job but, honestly, his music has gotten stale over the years and all of it just kind of blends in after a while.

Nor will you be getting new missions since this is a feature patch, not a content patch. That was made clear a long time ago.

Can you point out where that was posted? I’m curious because the two interviews I read both said that Anet’s “feature” patch was going to be similar to what we see in a typical patch in other MMO’s.

If you look at other MMO’s like WoW, their latest patch added 4 new dungeons, a new raid, 2 new zones, balance, LFG changes, and a host of other smaller things.

If you compare that to this “feature” patch, we got all the smaller things, but the main parts haven’t been included. So if it was later changed that this won’t be like other MMO’s patches, can you point me to that interview?

The content portion was the living story. Whether or not you enjoyed it, that WAS the content portion of the patch. The scarlet fight, the wurm boss, the assault on Lion’s Arch, etc.

This is the feature half. The QoL changes, system revisions, revamps to core systems, etc.

Feedback/Questions: PvP Reward Tracks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mega Messiah.1734

Mega Messiah.1734

I’m almost certainly being thick, but I have to say I found it really poorly worded about how Pvp and dungeon rewards were linked. Can anyone re-explain it for my benefit?

From what it sounds like, dungeons will have progress bars in the PvP UI that you can work towards by playing PvP matches in order to unlock tokens and gear specific to that dungeon, which you can then spend at the merchants in Vigil’s Keep to get the armor for PvP, since looks will be shared. That way, if PvP is your thing, you wont have to run the dungeon to get the look in HotM.

As for how the tracks work, it reads like this: they have a 2 week rotation where you can make progress towards a dungeon’s rewards, which I’m assuming can be activated to actually progress in the one you want.

If you want to be able to permanently progress through that dungeon track, without having to wait the 2 weeks, all you have to do is run the story mode and it unlocks that track to be progressed through at your leisure, rather than during a 2 week window.

So do we get to do 2 monthlies in April with rewards for both?

When we reach 10k and 5k does that mean we never after do any daily and monthly achievements ever again?

It sounds like we’re getting 2 different monthlies, yeah. A normal one, like we have now, for the first half of April, and then a hybridized version for the second half. Not 100% though.

As for the post 10k/5k thing, at that point you’d do your daily for the laurels, coins, karma, and XP. Not for the AP anymore.

If you hover over your achievement score, it will show how much of it is comprised of daily achievement points, monthly achievement points, and the rest of the achievements in the game.

Once you hit 10,000 points earned through dailies and 5,000 points earned through the monthly, those achievements will stop giving you points.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pvp-reward-tracks-and-gear-unification/

There it is in all its glory.

Leave your thoughts, opinions, concerns, etc.

After having read it, my thoughts on the changes:

- Love the AP change. The cap is huge but it’s nice to know there’s an end in sight. It gives achievements more of a legitimate value, and someone could now, realistically, earn max AP at some point in the game’s life.
- The changes to rank XP is nice. I don’t do much PvP because of the sheer cliff you suddenly face once you hit rank 40. I’ll at least be more inclined to do it now.
- Gear being shared between both game modes is a nice, if long overdue, change.
- Legendary components being earn-able in PvP is pretty great news.
- Reward tracks are a great idea that I think incentives people to at least break out of their comfort zone and dabble in PvP, which is healthy for the PvP community.

Probably the most unanimously positive post so far, especially after yesterday’s pretty pithy offering of 3 paragraphs, one of which was reiterating something from the first blog post anyways.

If champ train is such a terrible way to make money. why can’t any one post other methods when I asked?

GW1-era LA is gone forever

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Mega Messiah.1734

Mega Messiah.1734

Anet wants to cut all of its ties with GW1.

Except they don’t.

Then why have they mostly created new lore out of whole cloth, with minimal ties to GW1 lore? Why have they failed to get into some of the truly excellent unresolved questions and plotlines from 250 years ago? They’re sitting on a gold mine of unused and unexplored ideas for content, yet they insist on ignoring it for the most part. Please explain to me how this failure to cash in on everything they set up in the first game is anything but ignoring the GW1 lore. Yes, the core game has shout-outs and references, but the Living Story has absolutely minimal ties to GW1. The only thing I can think of is the reference to the Zephyrites taking care of Glint’s remains, but that’s about it. Indeed, the alliances were highly, highly implausible under the established lore of the core game of GW2 itself. That’s just bad writing that shows that the writers are making up whatever they feel like without regard to the core game or to GW1.

Because all that stuff is 250 years old.

Things don’t usually stay incredibly relevant for over 2 centuries. It’s time for new stories with inklings of the past thrown in. I don’t want to have all of GW1’s plots come front and center unless it is actually relevant and server a purpose beyond fan service.

If they bring back the Mursaat, I want there to be a reason.
If they decide Abaddon DIDN’T die, then I want there to be a reason.
If the Dwarves suddenly make their triumphant return from the Depths of Tyria, I want there to be a reason.

What I don’t want is for these things to happen and have them just be pandering to a fan base that played their first game. That’s why we had the first games in the first place: to tell those stories. Those unresolved questions – like the Mursaat and the fate of Cantha and Palawa Joko in Elona – might get resolved in the future, but as it stands right now, there’s no reason to bring two hundred year old stories back to the lime light unless they mesh with the newer stories being told.

in LA?
the moment they removed the GW1 LA fountain is the moment they removed the last part of GW1, GW2 is now officially unrelated to GW1.

So… the Norn, Asura, Humans, Charr, every single location in the game, even some of the enemies, that are the exact same as they were in GW1, dont relate the two games?

People forget that there’s been something like 2-3 centuries that pass between the timepoints the games take place in. The GW2 LA was already nearly unrelated to the GW1 LA when it was drowned by the raising of Orr.

Also, HoM. Just sayin.

firstly, EotN was added in response of GW2, no GW2 and you would’ve never seen the 3 other races.
also, what places?
there is not even a hint of ascalon, droknar, hedge of denravi, temple of the ages (and no, the swamp isn’t ToA, the statues are not even the same and they are not on the same location) so unless you have even a shred of evidence they are still there, i take it with a grain of salt.

oh and the 250 years is a poor excuse, there are buildings of about 5000 years ago that still stand today IRL yet in GW2 nothing is left, a game only 250 years later.

Droknar’s Forge – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sunken_Droknah
Ascalon City – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascalon_City (This is it’s foundation)

Aurora Glade (With White Mantle to fight) – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aurora%27s_Remains
The Granite Citadel – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Spearhead_Bane
Sorrow’s Furnace is Sorrow’s Embrace now, and story mode even has the same boss.

This isn’t even tying into the characters, where we have such places as:

Jalis Ironhammer’s crypt – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ironhammer%27s_Crypt
Gwen’s and Keiran’s graves – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gwen%27s_Grave
Farrah Cappo, Armsman Pitney, and Ivor Trueshot’s ghosts in the crypt from the Charr tutorial – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Battle_in_the_Vault

Now if you were expecting many of those buildings to be perfectly in tact after the rising of Orr, when some huge tidal waves would have summarily destroyed Droknar’s Forge and The Granite Citadel, or if you were expecting the Henge of Denravi to be in tact (when it was already falling into disrepair in the first game) when it was nothing more than a hiding place for the Shining Blade, then yeah you’ve got some unrealistic expectations.

And yes, Godlost Swamp is Temple of the Age’s ruins.

There’s plenty of things tying the first game to this one, but if all you clung to were some underwater statues in the middle of a city then you obviously didn’t care very much to begin with.

wow you are doing so much work for a whimer like him ? thats nice of you, but i doubt he will admit that he was talking bullkitten

He hasn’t responded, so maybe he swallowed his pride and admitted he was wrong. Or maybe he ignored the post. Either way, it’s there for the other people who would also claim that “Oh, GW2 has no ties whatsoever to the first game.” He was just the mouthpiece I used to get all this info.

And that’s just off of memory anyways. I’m sure there’s more that I can’t remember.

After all, Arenanet can’t have Scarlet explaining something that they can’t even explain themselves…

TIL there is no gold/gem exchange in GW2

And the best way to earn gold isn’t via challenging content and earning it. It’s dungeon speed clears and champ trains. I’d rather play challenging and fun content and get a good drop. It’s a rewarding feeling. Exchanging gold for gems and buying a common skin isn’t awesome.

Yeah, here’s the issue:

Define “challenging content”. Dungeons, for some people, are exceptionally difficult, even if they know the methods and tricks to make clearing dungeons a breeze.

Liadri was, for many people, difficult. But for another subset of people, it was also really easy once you realized that the entire fight was running in a circle and clearing conditions.

So, the issue is, if you lock valuable items behind “challenging content” then there’s going to be 3 groups:

A) The group that says it’s impossible for them to do it and it should be nerfed. (See Liadri if you don’t think this will happen)
B) The group that manages to do it a handful of times, with great difficulty, and gets maybe one or two rewards. It is deemed too challenging and time consuming for them to do, so they go on and do whatever it was before that they were doing. (AKA – "I’d rather farm champs than do this. More gold anyways. I’ll just buy the skins on the TP.)
C) The group that becomes hyperefficient at running the content and manages to not only clear it quickly, but is swimming in the rewards as a result.

“Challenging content” is as useful as saying “smarter AI”. It means different things for different people, and at the end of the day what you may find challenging, someone else may find incredibly easy.

There was a post on precursor crafting about someone saying that it should take, at most, 40 hours to craft a precursor. I don’t know about you, but 40 hours, for even a casual player, is a ridiculously small amount of time to craft precursors without destroying the market for them. Yet, that player thought 40 hours was a more than reasonable – bordering on too long – amount of time to make one.

So, while I agree that some new armor and weapon skins (which we got from the Scarlet event and the Wurm event) should drop from bosses, to say “challenging content” should be a major source of new armor and weapon skins is worthless. Even if they did do that, you’d still have the paradigm you have now: people would still rather do X than run “Challenging Content” to get the new skins, and then just buy them.

If they’re account bound like dungeon weapons and armor? They’ll be largely ignored if they’re too challenging, just like the number of people who quit Liadri because it was too hard.

I farm dungeons and just tend to sell some random trash I get along the way.

Well on my way to my 3rd Legendary.

Just don’t spend your money and you’ll usually be able to buy everything you want. Now, if you wanna be one of those people with boatloads of gold? Learn to play the TP and get used to staring at that window for a long long time.

Remove achiev : Six Minutes to Knightfall

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Mega Messiah.1734

Mega Messiah.1734

Psychol, it’s a challenge to have all achievs for more players, even if you win nothing more.

There we have it. It’s a challenge. It’s doable, but it’s not easy. If you can’t get it with your server, you either need to try harder or give up.
Just because something is hard to achieve, it doesn’t need to be removed. You don’t need to do it, as you said it yourself. You failed your own challenge, such things happen, get over it.

What they should do though is reverting the toughness of the knights back to normal.

It’s not a challenge, it’s impossible.

I was in the 2 minute kill TTS did and another 5 minute one, and both times it failed. I’ve killed all 3 on separate attempts within 6 minutes, both across different overflows and within the same map.

It’s bugged. If they don’t fix it, then it needs to be removed, because there’s no point in having an unattainable achievement. IF they fix it, THEN it’s a challenge, but people will still only have one week to get something they were supposed to be able to get for two.

Mega Messiah.1734

I liked it. It’s a war, we were an army, we killed her final weapon.

We injured her while also killing her hologram.

She limps away and hides behind a bubble, collapsing on the floor injured.

We stomp her.

Would’ve only ended better if I could’ve lopped her head off.

And then the setup for the next story arc?
And the potential?
You’re kitten right I enjoyed it.

If you purchased the skin with a ticket BEFORE they made all of these skins sellable then say hello to your new, expensive paper weight. I have the same issue with a Wintersday greatsword I can’t get rid of.

A Terrifying Realiziation

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Mega Messiah.1734

Mega Messiah.1734

No, it doesn’t.

Personal story was bland and uninteresting and it gave us Trahearne. Say what you want about Scarlet but at least she’s dead and, now that Mordremoth is up, we’ll likely be seeing better living story updates.

And even then, they said we’re not going to see the personal story in the same form as it was at launch; AKA, no cutscenes with 2 people in one shot phasing in and out depending on who’s talking.

Only thing I won’t like: if they make it temporary. You can’t introduce an elder dragon and make it ALL temporary. The fight better be a dungeon or a raid or a world boss, whatever the hell they decide to do. Some of it can be temporary, but the major points leading up to the final confrontation NEED to say.

But AFRAID of this? No. I like the concept of the living story, and the execution (barring this buggy mess of a patch) has only improved since the days of a 1 month wait doing nothing but pounding signs in and looking for NPCs in Wayfarer.

So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Mega Messiah.1734

Mega Messiah.1734

The actual living story as a whole? Like a 7/10. Solid effort after a rocky start.

This patch? Like a 4. I love the game, not gonna cry foul and threaten to quit or anything but this patch has been bug after bug after bug. The final bossfight, once it got fixed, is fantastic. I love the holo fight, I love the music, and I don’t even mind the knights.

It’s just there’s been SO many bugs.

Just got done attempting Six Minutes to Knightfall. We got all three of them in under 6 minutes. Lo and behold, to nobody’s surprise, it’s still bugged for the second night in a row.

Just get rid of the achievement, ANet. Nobody will care about 10 measly achievement points.

Yup. Just got done doing it within 4 minutes with TTS and, lo and behold, no achievement even though all 3 Knights died well within 6 minutes. Second time I’ve had this happen after successfully killing them within 6 minutes.

In all honestly Anet, if you guys can’t get this thing to work just cut the tumor off and get rid of the achievement. I don’t think anybody will mourn the loss of some small 10 AP achievement.

Can they possibly get 1 thing “functional” in this game?

2 weeks to “complete” content, and its day 4 already and still more problems then I can count……

And don’t 1 person dare to reply “Its a Free to Play Game”…. It has been proven that they make more money in Gem sales then most games make that are “monthly feed”

Yeah. “Functionally,” the watch knights are healed by the menders. It’s working as intended.

The menders heal the knights. Don’t let them heal the blue knight.
