I love having to attack people for 15+ seconds to kill them in their downed state underwater, and if there are any enemy sharks around you can kiss your kitten goodbye because there’s no way you will finish your opponent before the sharks down you.

What about the update on Spvp and Esports ?

Well ANet somehow got the greatest rep for caring about their players, if it’s because of clever marketing or just from back in GW1 I dont know. It’s a good start for the company, but some people just check if they got what they paid for or was promised in actual gaming. So far spvp has been completely neglected and ignored. Many people dont wait because someone says the company is a friendly one, if the game is close to unplayable in it’s lack of balance and lack of promised features it doesnt matter if the creators are friendly and working for the salary if nothing reaches the customers. It’s the brutal truth. In the long run it’s affecting the companys rep as well since customers feeling neglected will have that opinion and that’s the opinion they will share. Countless of gaming companies have suffered from bad reputation because they promised players things that never happened or happened too late. You cant keep the game released in beta state for so long.
It’s just a blog with updates, it’s not that hard to post one sooner than later and if something change after the first one is posted, just add a new one with the new changes. People need to feel the developers care, if someone random says they do it’s just words and words means nothing if there’s no action to it.

No, it’s just a lot of people who play this game are adults and realize that reguardless of your spoiled Veruca Salt-esque “I want it NOW” mentality, you can’t always have it.
When the blog comes out, it comes out. There’s really no need to spam the forums with impatient bickering.

The game is a month old now, how long do you suggest we wait? Another month? 3 months? A year? You can’t keep people waiting forever, especially when there are glaring flaws that have not been addressed [mesmers insta-repairing trebs, the ridiculous sharks in capricorn].

GW1 had a lot more diversity even without dual classing, every class had dozens of elites so you weren’t pigeonholed into certain elites like you are in GW2. You also only had 8 skills but you could choose whatever you wanted, you didn’t even need to take an elite if you didn’t want to.

What a pleasant surprise for working people, we just have to twiddle our thumbs while our precious time slips away.

When are they going to release a cash shop item that completely bypasses the diminishing returns system? That’s literally the only thing missing from the equation.

They just need to scrap the DR system, it’s a terrible mechanic that should only be used in cash-grab F2P games to get people to fork over cash to overcome it.

This is literally the first game I’ve played that goes out of it’s way to hurt people for being good at the game, the ironic part is that it doesn’t even work properly so it hurts casual players too.

Hearing about all these bugs makes me glad I haven’t bothered to do dungeons yet.

They really just need to scrap the whole DR system and just fix the paths people could farm extremely quickly.

I don’t know about WoW but when Rift launched there was no “there is no endgame” threads. And the only threads there leaving were for GW2.

Oh there most definately were, I remember reading a few of them as I played RiFT for a while too.

But if thats what you got from the original post, then the point has been completely missed.

No, not really because a month after launched they added a world event and then a month after that they added a new 20-man raid. Endgame content, content in general, has never been Rift’s weak point.

And a thread on the forums about all the other threads on the forums you don’t like. Figured it out pretty quickly. Also, when you tell people who complain to just leave you’re basically saying they’re right about whatever it is they’re complaining about. There’s plenty of nonsensical and unnecessarily negative posts going on here but there are also plenty of legitimate issues. If you’re only rebuttal is to tell them to leave than that shows you have no reason to tell them to stay or that they are wrong.

Trion really impressed me with rift, I wasn’t big on raiding but the sheer amount of content they put out was amazing. I heard they ran into some trouble with buggy raids in later content patches but it was really impressive how much they put out for ‘free’. I stopped playing because of the balance [pyros/champs were rampant and sabs had been nerfed] and I wasn’t a fan of the PvP gear grind, since it tended to make strong classes even strong and weak classes even weaker. I still admired Trion a lot for at least trying to give people their money’s worth, unlike other MMOs which just take your $15 and give you a maintenance day in return.

When I compare GW2 to Rift my main disappointment is how long it’s taking Anet to take a look at class balance or at least let people know what’s the plan for the future. Right now some people aren’t happy with their classes for different reasons; warriors don’t like being forced into shouts/banners for dungeons, eles don’t like being kittened, necros don’t like being buggy, etc.

I think arenanet will have a hard time getting people to stick around if they aren’t happy with their classes.

I don’t think Dusk understands what people are asking for here. We’re not asking for a whole new continent and a bunch of dungeons, people want the existing content to be tweaked and be more fulfilling.

A lot of people don’t venture too far outside those 3 defense DEs in cursed shore because most events don’t show up on the map, you don’t want to wade through 100 risen purifiers only to find absolutely nothing. Another problem is that there’s not much reason to do some of the less popular events; you could kill the risen king or the champion shark and get the same exact rewards you get for defending the camps.

Dungeons in this game, in my opinion.

Sometimes it feels like the dungeons are tuned for people with permanent swiftness and infinite dodge rolls, it doesn’t really help that some classes have limited utility in dungeons due to the nature of their skills.

Melee is still a terrible idea 90% of the time due to high damage, non-telegraphed moves, low combat mobility and some very melee unfriendly mechanics, like that one boss in CoF story mode that has a 900+ range aura that burns anyone within range.

Tera managed their bosses a lot better than GW2, melee classes get better tools to evade attacks and the bosses can’t be covered in overpowering particle effects so it’s hard to miss their tells.

We need Outward Scaling, not just Upward.

I agree. People keep saying ’ just increase the HP’ but all that does is make you beat on a meat shield for a couple seconds more, you’re not at risk of dying and you don’t need to change tactics, just increasing HP is by far the laziest direction you could possibly go.

What I had envisioned

in PvP

If balancers will have the same mindset as GW1, then kitten this game will just have one generic balanced build that will perpetually played. Team or character builds that will overpower this balanced template will be nerfed to uselessness and well see mirror matches of balanced builds once again. Which sucks. But I expect this to happen because as they say they expect this to be an esport. So yeah, same old kitten again.

So basically what you are saying is you don’t want a balanced game where player skill comes into play but OP specs that you can just faceroll and win

There’s already a major MMO out there where Gear, OP specs and Add-ons matters more than player skill. Perhaps that is more what you’re looking for.

I hope you’re not suggesting that GW1 was a balanced game just because there were a handful of builds that dominated the vast majority, you either used them or had your team /resign before the match starts.

How about a leaver penalty?

That would encourage the same behavior you see in MOBAs where people berate their teams for being bad and wasting their time since they can’t leave, not suggesting that you should be able to leave in MOBAs.

Rift had the same problem with rogues being able to blink while carrying flags, all they did was make it so once you blink while carrying the flag you dropped it. If you want to take it one step further you could make it so carrying a kit reduces your movement speed and reduces the effectiveness of swiftness.

There, a simple fix that doesn’t involve directly nerfing an ability.

As for roaming/damage/utility that’s a much wider topic that would require people to have their facts/numbers as opposed to anecdote and emotional arguments.

Question for the Dev team : whats the Design philosophy behind MM changes from GW1

in Necromancer

Mekboss.5069

The fact that curses/hexes are gone just completely ruins necro, doing simple damage over time doesn’t cut it since every single class can do it, and fear really isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, it’s a binary mechanic that doesn’t require a whole lot of thought.

Blood magic is also terribly weak now. What’s the point of healing for 50 health points a hit when you lose hundreds of health points just trying to get in range of you target.

Has Arenanet said why we’re only able to store 1 of each item in the PvP locker now?
Will we ever be able to store more than 1 of anything like we good in the beta?

It would also be nice if we could store glory boosters, tournament tickets, and custom finishers.

The person who said that ArenaNet wants you to farm an armor set over the course of 3 months reminded me of another game that tried to do that.

Final Fantasy XIV tried to tell people how much they should play and how often they should play by having penalties to experience the more you played without taking a break called “Bonus EXP.” You’d eventually stop getting EXP and start racking up the mysterious “Bonus EXP” instead.

That went well for them.

I’m not saying this will end up like FFXIV. I just thought it was amusing.

The guys at the top realized they made a huge mistake, fired their entire development team and worked for years to bring the game up to a decent standard, I don’t think that needs to happen here but I wouldn’t feel so bad if someone came out and said this game was going in the wrong direction and took drastic proactive measures to prevent the game from tanking.

Right now Arenanet is just reacting to everything we do, probably without testing anything, so we get these hamfisted solutions that solve an underlying problem but essentially ruin part of the game. It’s like that time people were exploiting tier 1 rare cultural weapons by salvaging them for ectos so arenanet decided multiply the price by 9, now no one in their right mind would ever spend karma on those weapons.

I had the same problem, after about 5 minutes I couldn’t talk anymore [not even in /say] so that added about another 10 – 20 minutes to my search for a dungeon group. I also didn’t like having to go to a zone I didn’t want to be in in order to find groups.

Most MMOs have global LFG channels to avoid these problems.

Idea for Ele Traits: Merging Traits.

in Elementalist

Mekboss.5069

I’m not sure how people can defend elementalist traits with a straight face when you compare ours to other classes’ traits.

Non-elementalist traits:

  • Hammer damage is increased by 25% when a foe is disabled. Reduces cooldown of hammer skills by 20%.
  • Gain might on critical hit with a greatsword or spear. Greatsword and spear skill recharge 20% faster.
  • Torch skills remove conditions. Reduces cooldowns of torch skills by 20%.
  • Increases pistol attack range for you and your illusions. Reduces recharge of pistol skills by 20%.

Elementalist traits for comparison:

  • Deal 5% extra damage to burning foes.
  • Flame Barrier’s chance to burn foes goes up the longer you are attuned to fire.
  • Deal 5% more damage when you are within melee range of your target.
  • All your fire weapon skills recharge 20% faster.

Compared to other classes elementalist traits just aren’t as thought out and they tend to punish for trying to stance dance [with the exception of the arcane traitline, the only good line we have].

It’s just like last hitting in any DotA-like, you can do 99.9% of the damage to a creep but if you don’t deal the blow that kills it you get no gold/buff, it’s not a difficult or unfair mechanic.
