Kaimick, the problem with MF is that is ONLY benifits the player running it. You can say how player skill is more important than gear, and I certinly agree with you on this, but a skiled player running normal gear IS (statisiticly) going to benifit his team more then a skilled player in regular gear.
And comparing MF to non-zerker gear is not a good comaparison. A player running Apocracerys might be doing less dmg, but they’ll be offering more healing.
Same could be said for a player running soildeirs. Less dmg, but capable of taking more hits. (Which if he died, might be hits directed at you)
However a player running MF is offering nothing else to his group in place of the stats lost.
I stand my stance that players running MF are being selfish by putting their needs above the group.Yes someone with magic find offers less of statistical help, but so does certain classes, lets remove classes like Rangers from being able to enter dungeons because as we can already see, Warriors do everything better statistically.
Statistically certain builds are worse than other builds and offer less to the group in dungeons, we should also disallow them for being used in group play.
Statistically there are far worse problems then MF gear in dungeons.Warriors can’t heal as well as rangers, and they can’t lay as many combo fields. And it’s not like that ranger is trying to bring his teamates down by joining the dungeon.
Who do you think would have a better chance of joining a PUG. The ranger that is running normal gear, or a warrior that admits he’s running MF?
Statistically, as that’s what you were talking about, Warriors are still a better choice than a ranger. So again, MF is the least of the problems in this instant. In dungeons pets are dead 90+% of the time or sitting next to you on passive, limiting the damage by a massive chunk. Everything else rangers can bring other than bad damage other classes can do better.
Doesn’t matter if a player removes for example toughness or vitality in favour of MF stats since all defensive stats are there to be more or less noob friendly. You mention someone soaking damage is doing more than someone with MF gear, Maybe you should ask why he’s soaking damage at all instead of dodging out of it?
Guardian is the only classes that can successfully soak anything.
So statistically, MF is a lesser problem than balancing classes.

Video might get taken more serious if you didn’t swear or burp in it. Not sure whether that was supposed to be humour or what, it certainly brought the IQ level down on the video itself.
I would love to see the borders of items coloured depending on their rarity.
Right now you can’t just glance at the bag and see how many yellows etc. you run around with.
It’s not a major thing but it’s one that would be very appreciated, especially as the longer the game has been out the more bag slots we’re all running around with.
All the items currently have a grey border, just change it to match the rarity of the item.
I have no problem playing dungeons. You just have to be aware of pet control, plus proper pet and skill switching. If you’re running the same skills and pets, all they way through a fractals run, you’re doing it wrong.
This is what I normally run with: Bear/Bear – Healing Spring, Signet of Stone, “Search and Rescue”, Quickening Zephyr, Spirit of Nature – Spotter, Nature’s Bounty, Trapper’s Defense.
Playing against a boss that drops a lot of AoE, I switch to Devourer pets. Playing against a lot of condition damage, I switch to Signet of the Wild, Signet of Renewal, and Brown Bear. Playing against multiple mobs, I switch to Flame Trap, Entangle, and Carrion Devourer/River Drake. Playing against a boss that isn’t a threat, I switch to Frost Spirit, “Sick ’Em”, Rampage As One, and River Drake/Jungle Stalker. Playing against a moving boss, I switch to Signet of the Hunt, Frost Trap, and Polar Bear/Snow Leopard. And so on…
However, the best thing about a Ranger, is that your pet can function as a sixth player. So if two or more allies are downed, you send your pet to attack the boss (using “Guard” or activating Signet of Stone). This gives your team a window of opportunity, in which you can revive the downed allies. Or, if one ally is downed, you an use “Search and Rescue” to send the pet over to revive him, and then follow up with Quickening Zephyr for a faster revive. And if both you and your pet are reviving, while you activate Quickening Zephyr, you become the fastest reviver in your party. This is the best part about having a Ranger on your team.
That’s all fine and dandy and I bet it works, but we’re playing Guild Wars 2, not “Swap Around Pets and Abilities Between Every Fight 2” If this is necessary for our class to work then they really need to implant easy sets to swap around to, such as the “`” key for weapon swapping. I don’t want to spend my dungeon swapping skills around, and that can only be done in a guild group, try finding a PuG that sits and lets you swap skills and pets around all the time. If what you say is necessary for our class to work, or as you say, “you’re doing it wrong” then no, we’re not doing it wrong, they designed the class wrong.
if someone is just friendly and talks to you, why do people always assume the worst? maybe it’s just someone who thought you were nice (in a dungeon run or whatever) and, as this in fact is an mmo, some people might assume you play it because you like the MM aspect of it as well? I’m not that social but if someone is I don’t assume they stalk me ;-)
or.. instead of blocking or whatever, you could just outright tell the person you have no interest in making new friends? I feel kinda bad for those people who genuinely just wanted to make a few new friends because none of their other friends play this game… I only block people I really don’t want to see anymore (griefers, bad players in speedruns who think they know everything best, idiots etc), so if I forget the nick I don’t accidentally group with them again.
That’s great, and I fully agree, but they can add me and I can accept said friend request. The feeling kinda needs to be mutual. I find it somewhat weird for someone to add you to their friends list and then never speak to you, they just, watch you log on. That is in fact creepy.
I have not spoken to 95% of the people that have me on their friend list.
If someone added me as a friend, I’d more than likely accept if I actually know who they were, which would in turn lead to a conversation, not just a random person adding you and sits silently watching you. I repeat, that’s weird. Let me accept your friend request, don’t force it on me.
I can see it already – WvWvW players crying themselves to sleep when their bags are full and every time a tagged target dies they get a loot screen popping up all over their screen since the bags are full. I forsee a similar thread to this crying for removal.
Probably not……Its called buy more bags.
I have characters with all bag slots opened and biggest bags. I still get full bags after a long run in WvW. When I pvp, last thing I think about is going to a vendor. When you then end up in a battle where everything is “auto-loot” then you’ll be spammed with loot windows when there’s no slots left.
So no, it’s not called “buy more bags”, maybe it’s then called “Try spamming F whilst moving and still pvping, or if that’s a problem a classic term of L2P?”

You completely ignored the point of having the option to opt out of it. i.e. a toggle option. Online friends are not like in real life friends. Just because I want to talk to them on one character, if I just want to log on and do my own thing without interruptions in an anonymous manner on a character I do not want them to know is mine, should be my right as the owner of my account. Just because you’re OK with everyone knowing all your characters does not mean everyone else wants it. Again all I’m asking for is an option to toggle it. Public place? Yes yes it is, it does however mean everyone that knows my main character should instantly know that I am the owner of my alternative character, ESPECIALLY since I have no option to decline their “friendship”.
Not sure how else I can explain the concept of not wanting people to automatically have access to all my characters and whether I am online or not. We live in a world where people want choices, not forced features that make some people happy and others not so much. It’s not that hard to apply a toggle feature. I don’t know how I can express it in a different way, Toggle feature does NOT cause ANYTHING bad what so ever.
If I do not want people to know about all my characters they shouldn’t. If I want people to know about my characters I will personally tell them, I do not want the game to tell them.
I would really like to see the friends list to be character specific, and like battlenet in WoW people have the option to add eachothers “tags” which allows them access to all characters.
Problem with this is that you would have to remove the option where you can see everyone’s tags simply by just hovering over their name in a chat. I want to stress that I understand why this is in the game and I understand why people want it, what I do not understand is the lack of options to turn features off. Sometimes it feels like it’s some kind of mechanic that’s trying to force people together.
I just wished that Arenanet in generally would understand that features they add that have no impact on the game itself would ideally need a toggle option. We do not all like the same things, little things like chat systems and even the event log on the top right side of the screen needs toggle options. I just cannot understand why there isn’t. Now obviously I understand that if they were to change the way the friendslist works they would have to rework it and hide the account names in guild panels, in chat panels. It would also affect the guilds in other ways such as mentioned earlier about the account names in the guild panel, also that characters would probably need inviting to guilds individually not account wide.
I am well aware that MMO’s are supposed to be social but forcing people together who do not both agree with the match-up is not right and that’s without even considering the stalkers.
When I look at my list of people who have me on their friends list, I do not know hardly any of them, nor do they speak to me, they’ve just opted to knowing where I am on what character at all times and I find that rather intrusive. What I do not think a lot of people understand that female gamers are hounded by certain kind of male gamers. My partner finds the current system very intrusive to her privacy. There’s simple solutions to this and as I said previously, I do not understand why it was never implanted as a choice instead of a forced feature. It’s not a matter of removing, it’s about choice.
I’m not sure whether it’s just myself and my partner who feels like this but we find the friends list to be rather stalkerish, especially with the account name such as my MeveM.7913 to be available for everyone to see. The account name is not change-able and my partner took her day to day nick name which is obvious she’s a female. Let’s face it, females get a whole deal of unwanted attention in the gaming community.
Why is it that you can add anyone you fancy to your friends list without any accepting from the other person, especially since in GW2 you add not just that character, you add the account name so you can at all times see what character they are on.
Ontop of this you show up as online and everyone gets a message saying you’ve come online before you’ve even gone on a character. “There’s a invisible mode” Yes, yes there is, but it limits you and it still says you’ve come online and then disappeared in the 5 seconds it takes to change to invisible, even if done in the character screen.
I want to have the choice to be anonymous online. I don’t want everyone to know all my characters, I want to be able to go on another toon if I just want to mess about with SOME of my friends.
I understand the concept behind this and it’s supposed to encourage people to get together, what I don’t like it’s not just offered, it’s produced and rammed down the throat of every single player without us having any option to turn it off.
My major problem with this is as I said at the top, my female partner. There’s only so long you can be bothered to block people. She wants to be able to “hide” on a character if she just wants to chill, but if she goes invisible it limits HER, not the people she want to avoid.
I don’t know, is it just my opinion that it’s far too stalkerish and accessible?
Yet another constructive post that ArenaNet will ignore and hope that we don’t notice.
Keep the data coming and maybe one day they will visit the Ranger section.
Why do you bother taking your time writing up and testing all these things? You seem to be doing more research into the class than Arenanet are doing, they seemingly don’t pay any attention to even well written, informative and constructive threads. I’m not sure what they’re doing, or what the Dev’s that do respond to threads are doing, but they certainly aren’t going around letting us know whether whatever is posted here is even reaching the Dev’s at all.
Too busy leaving us in the dark and using the “We won’t release anything until it’s perfect” excuse, yet they still release stuff that aren’t perfect.
Greatsword buff was greatly appreciated, probably not enough of a buff yet but a step in the right direction, our biggest issue however is what our class is based around, pets. Don’t know why nothing has changed, we can only speculate.
Chair sitting is a major want.
Makes sense. forcing Map screen sounds reasonable.
I’d eventually like to see something similar to a raid, but no we don’t need legendary drops. GW2 is not about the stats etc. This isn’t WoW.
Agreed. Hammer warrior here and they’re almost all aweful. I still prefer one of the first skins in the game over the “clubs” you get at higher levels. Why not give us some bigger hammers? The twohanded swords aren’t exactly following the laws of physics, why should the hammers?
Just give us a trinity system and we can all be happy playing which ever role we want. It’s what the game is lacking anyway.
Thanks a lot for that!
Hello!
I’ve started to play a ranger and yes I like to dress my female toons skimpy. I play with my gf and she doesn’t mind so don’t need the comments of “go outside, get a gf” etc.
Anyone who can tell me what legs these are?
http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/gw2-wintersday-winters-reach-longbow-skin.jpg
Can’t find anything more then Duelist, Human T3, and Norn T3 that’s skimpyish in the medium range. I’ve seen a couple of players with the above though and never been able to ask them what it is.
If it’s such a hassle to create armour skins because of the amount of races, then why did they bother with the two halloween skins? They could easily have turned those into Light (Witch) and Medium/Heavy (The king outfit), yet they waste it on a town outfit. Didn’t seem to take them that long to make it. They even reskinned Lions Arch twice instead of giving us something useful in the long term.
As for it not being free to play? To me it is, do you realize how much it will cost to keep the servers up and running? Without subscription fees we’re slowly sucking them empty of resources, are they going to rely on expansions? Really?
All I’m saying is surely they’d make a heck of a lot more money from having a Gem Shop team adding new stuff as often as possible than it would cost to pay their pay checks at the end of each month. From a business standpoint I cannot get my head around what they’re thinking with the shop. I personally expect more from it.
I’d happily pay a subscription fee if they had a gem shop team, I work for a living, but by the looks of it Arenanet does not want their player base to support them. From playing GW2 since launch I can already tell you that the average age of the player base is a lot higher then most other subscription based MMO’s, meaning there are plenty of adults with jobs here whom are more than willing to put some money into their spare time interest.
All I’m saying is, they should put more effort into the gem shop. I’ve spent more money in Planetside 2’s shop than I have in GW2 because they offer a far wider array of stuff to buy.
(edited by MeveM.7913)
I don’t really understand what Arenanet are doing. You’ve given us a free to play game, and you expect to get income from microtransactions. Why are they so rubbish?
I still cannot get my head around why Arenanet does not have a dedicated Gem Shop team that’s throwing out new outfits etc. After what, 7 months since release and there’s still only 1 armour set per armour type.
I want to invest money in the game and support the company that’s made a game I enjoy, but I can’t even throw my money at them, seems like they don’t actually want any money. So far all I’ve spent my money on is changing my hair and dyes.
Can someone explain to me how they’re supposed to be making money when all that’s changed in the gem shop is a back pack, a hair changer and a failed gender changer without a name renamer (this causing a mass population of transvestite characters running around.). There’s a few town clothing options yet the general support for roleplayers is non-existent. Why have town clothes when you can’t even sit on chairs?
If I was the person in charge of the marketing in Anet I’d cry in a corner. A microtransaction shop without hardly any updates with 7 months passed since launch.
I want to give you my money for heavens sake! Why won’t you let me?
PS: The argument of adding armour to the shop nullifies doing dungeons etc doesn’t work in a game that’s free, doing 20+ dungeon runs = time spent, which is what subscription games require you to do.
Fail… Wrong stat order is fail.

What’s the point of having a dungeon finder when the dungeons aren’t working anyway? Arah is still bugged on Piken Square EU, going on 8 weeks now or something close to it. Gotta love them bugging dynamic events that can only be reset when the server resets, and then there’s a chance for it to bug yet again.
I prefer Carrion from the craftables, but ideally you want the precision/toughnes/condition damage items you can get from the Trade Post or certain items from the Orr Karma vendors. 6 Undead runes and you turn loads of toughness into condition damage, especially if you like me have 30 in chaos and 20 illusion.
Ever thought that that one Mesmer was better then you? Just because you play something longer then someone else doesn’t mean you’re better.
0/20/30/0/20
Staff, Sword/Pistol is my build. Bleed/condition build. Works great.
You still can’t enter Arah, since the dynamic events chain that opens it is still bugging nonstop and I’ve read nowhere that it’s planned to be fixed or not. Still, 10 weeks on and it’s still bugging.
Not fun to wait for server resets before you have a chance to get in, unless it bugs again.
Other then that, yeah the game is still good and fun. Still plenty of bugs though.
My problem with grouping with people is that there’s no point in doing so. All you get in a group is some spots on your minimap. All other MMO’s other then GW2 allows you to gain exp and loot from NPC’s that your group members kill.
The whole system seems to be built around punishing anyone playing a support class. Whenever you find yourself in a group all you see is everyone trying to AoE everything as quickly as possible, and certain classes lack in the AoE department, especially if they’re running a support build.
I actually recall a fight with the Centaur leader in Harathi Hinterlands where I spent 80% of the time getting people up from down states and throwing Chaos storm and Nullfield around to buff everyone else, I ended up getting a silver badge for the event as I did not do enough damage to the boss. How is that possibly a good thing?
The system is making people look out for themselves, it does not make you want to have someone else with you, if mobs get killed too quickly then you get no exp and loot. Also having all this nonstop stress about tagging mobs isn’t a fun way of playing the game, but it’s a design flaw in my opinion that I don’t think will be changed.
As a result of all the above I’ve written, people stick to themselves and stay unsocial, at least I do and I know many others who do the same.
Well let’s just all use Greatswords as that seems to be the only way we’re supposed to play.
Whenever you see a Warrior, Guardian or Mesmer you can without doubt they carry a Greatsword, means great balancing between weapons.
I forgot, everyone’s a pvp junky in GW2. Normal mobs don’t live long enough to bother, nor does instance groups, boss fights is what I’m running my build around and the rest goes just as well.
Don’t forget that the Arah Dungeon is never available since the dynamic event is always bugged. Think it’s 2 weeks since I last saw it open, at which point it closed before I managed to get a group and the following chain got bugged again.
Wish the Halloween event never happened and they put some of that effort into sorting out the problems with content already in the game. I have 2 level 80 characters and I’ve played my 2nd one for a long time past 80 now, I have yet to enter Arah yet since it’s always bugged.
The way the story quest keeps fapping on about Zhaitan and his evilness and then when you want to finally go beat him up, Nooooo, of course you can’t, he’s shut his gate and sits crying under a table inside.
Going to Arah is like taking a car full of kids for a long journey to a theme park and once you get to the entrance you tell them you can only look at it, they’re not going in.
Remove the Arah vendor in LA, you can’t get any tokens for it anyway.
PS: I’m assuming this isn’t just a problem on Piken Square EU server.
(edited by MeveM.7913)
I just can’t understand why Thief has a 25% Speed buff sigil as passive AND the shortbow teleportation. After play a thief for a while it makes all other classes feel like snails and cripplingly slow.
How come everyone but me can find this supposed 20 point Chaos Trait that gives you swiftness when you heal? I’ve gone through all trait trees over and over again and there is no such thing, yet someone says there is only 4 hours ago. I really don’t get it, also why is it better to have 6x Centaur then 2 centaur 2 air and 2 of the other swiftness one, that’d be 60% wouldn’t it? or 45% if the cheaper version.
But I’m mostly interested where someone can find this trait that gives swiftness on heal as I can’t find it.
Don’t know why it won’t let me queue but anyway.

MeveM.7913:
I do 0/20/30/0/20, changed Mr Prometheus’ build, not sure why he wants Power since it does nothing for a staff build. The 15 pointer in precision tree gives our illusions bleeds on crits, if you swap to sword/pistol with 3 illusions up you get 14-16 bleeds just from them and if you pop a chaos storm or Null field on/nearby the mob they’ll give him 24 stacks of confusion.
I am confused how exactly does using chaos storm or null field give them 24 stacks of confusion? When I use it all it does is pop random conditions or at best give me chaos armor which does not seem to cause confusion at all. I would love to know since I have been trying to have a build with a consistent way of applying high stacks of confusion.
Point is, each pistol illusion shoots 8 times. That makes it 24 shots from 3 illusions. Each and every single projectile (gun shot, arrow) that goes through a chaos storm or Nullfield causes a combo. In this case it’s 1 confusion per shot fired by the illusions.
So technically if all 24 shots crit, it’s 24 bleeds and 24 confusion every time the pistol illusions shoot. I usually get around 15 bleeds and 24 confusions.
Abyss and Celestial. Midnight ice and fire isn’t proper black, many armour pieces show them as what they are, blue and red.

Sad thing is that only the greatswords have any Legendary worth effects worth mentioning. I’m a staff player and see zero reasons to bother with a Legendary, there’s normal staffs that look better and that’s saying a lot since it’s the least decorated/visually impressive weapon available.
Don’t be too eager to thank us, our kind is just as ready to yank the rug out from under you in PvP puzzles
No, that’s not the reason, don’t thank us because Anet might just start nerfing our portal as well. Less attention we get the better.
How long is it going to take for A-net to sort out the bugged dynamic events that constantly prevent servers from doing Arah? It’s hardly ever available since the events always bug at various stages and A-net still has not implanted any system that resets events if they break or aren’t completed. Even if it’s in 12 hours without completion just bloody reset it and stop making us wait for a server reset that might keep the gates of Arah open for maybe a day if even that.
Shouldn’t having working dynamic event chains that open dungeons have some kind of priority? Whenever I finally manage to get together a guild group for Arah it’s always bugged. It’s hard to hit that small window A-net is leaving us with.
Quite frankly, it’s pretty appalling that we’re 8 weeks past launch and the one thing they tried to sell the game on isn’t working as intended.
The amount of broken Dynamic Events in all the three Orr areas has made it a bot haven, there’s no players, just bots, we got nothing to gain there as nothing is working.
Why the bloody Staff nerfs? We already do rubbish damage why take it even further?
Thank you very much. I shall try what you’ve said.
So I’m a staff player whom is interested in trying out greatsword, with my current staff condition gear I rarely even do more then 1k damage with my auto attack with a greatsword.
I’m struggling to find guides anywhere as to what gear setup, traits and so forth.
Are greatsword style supposed to be played with Berserker gear for power/prec crit damage or?
I see tons of posts in various threads on this forum going on about specific playstyles doing up to 4k damage with auto attacks yet noone ever explaints what gear setup etc they use.
Anyone that can help me with this?
Elves. Since they turned into plants. We need elves.
Depends on the player, the gear they have, and how they are trait specced.
Wish someone that knows what they’re talking about made some Specs/traits and gear to go with it guides. All I can find anywhere is just random people posting their specs without any easily understood information to go with it.
I’m currently going after MrPromethius’ build of 20/0/30/0/20 with staff as main weapon and Carrion gear. I try a Greatsword and do like 400-700 damage per auto attack, then I watch WvW videos where Greatsword users do 2k-3k or even more damage per auto attack and no guide to go with it to what items and spec they use.
I’m typing this and trying not to explode with rage… I’ve tried to do this stupid story quest three times now and every single time I’ve gotten stuck in a wall due to the ridicules clone system you’re running? Teleporting back into walls, weeks on and it’s STILL not fixed… “Temple of the Forgotten God” is the story quest, and it’s in the area where you finally get out of the water, THREE TIMES I’ve gotten stuck and since Mesmer isn’t combat valid without clones, I can’t bloody get past it.
Sort out all the teleporting into wall bugs already??
PS: At least put some bloody waypoints at the start of every story quest zone so I can teleport there isntead of having to restart the whole kitten thing over and over again.
My problem with Mesmer is the aoe, there’s classes that can auto attack and hit 4+ mobs from ranged and have Aoe abilities with 0-5 second cooldown, we get a 35 second aoe on staff. Dynamic events is all about Aoe tagging as many mobs as you can before they die so you get xp and loot. I get far less loot in dynamic events on my Mesmer then any other class I’ve played. We need a weapon that’s specialist in AoE like the warriors Longbow, Rangers axe, thieves shortbow, the list goes on and on.
I’m honestly not sure why they didn’t do this to begin with . They had this system in GW1 (given it took a while to implement ) so i don’t see why it couldn’t be done for GW2 .
Then I certainly hope they will do so in the future.
There’s so many examples in many different MMO’s where a class gets nerfed because of PvP reasons, making them useless in PvE, or the other way around.
Why can’t you simply make it so when you enter a PvP area, the mists, a battleground or WvWvW the abilities you want to nerf gets nerfed in those areas only? Surely there must be a way for you to nerf abilities in PvP without making them useless in PvE where they were fine or even underpowered?
I don’t PvP and I’m getting a bit fed up with getting kittened because of a area of the game I rarely touch.
