People that find the open world hard needs to stop the berserker gear mentality. Try soldier and such and you will have loads more fun. I can autoattack things to death in soldier gear without problems.
If youve tried the more defensive stuff and still struggle then im not sure what the issue is. I just think a lot of people cant be bothered to explore different builds.

This is a rather ignorant statement. Perhaps you’re the one who needs to change. Try Berserker so that you can wear everyone elses shoes, then you can see where they are coming from. It has really nothing to do with the difficulty of the content, and more to do with the content just one shotting people with zero telegraphs. Berserker gear is fine. What isn’t fine is people not having the chance to react.

So youre confirming that because arenanet has finally made other builds wanted they have ruined the 1 build game they had for 3 years.

My problem with the mentor tag is the lack of a refund system to those of us using the commander tag for pve. I did not even know about the extra comm features until i got it so i highly doubt the majority knows of them either.

Even with all that explained, the end was very disappointing. If it was a figure of my imagination I’d still imagine Mordemoth like a proper Elder dragon, not some bloated hamster on two legs.

I was thoroughly engaged and wow’d by the story right up until the end. Anet really lost me there, I see what OP is saying, there was a really crap cutscene at the end that only created more questions than answers, and then when it’s done you just sit there next to the spinning spire… WTF? really? We just saved the God kitten world and we get a spinning spire as a celebration. Concidering Anet pride themselves on their living story, and that was the end of the main story quest at HoT release, it was VERY lackluster.

It really feels as if someone forgot to add the epic cinematic video to the expansion pack or the animation team just went on holiday and didn’t tell Colin about it.

No sorry, the end really did not do the rest of the story justice. Disappointing.

Everyone in my 250 man guild is loving HoT and theyre all spread out over the hot maps.
Go read Dulfy’s Hero point guide and stop crying. There’s nothing wrong with the hot maps, you’re probably just running around the berserker meta gear thinking it will do well. Well try something else. I’m using zerker weapon/trinkets and Soldier armour and it’s a whole lot more fun than zerker. Take more defensive abilities and you’re set. Get some stability for the knockdowns and there you go, the content is no longer hard. The veterans are no longer hard. Believe it or not, killing the mobs that are standing in your way of events give more XP than the event itself.

People just have this silly mentality of wanting to run from event to event without having to fight anything. People cry for a living world, then cry when the world is living. Game Dev’s can’t win.

PS: Orr was a bigger pain in the backside than HoT areas, they still are. All those chill, cripple and pulls…

The elitists have ruined the GW2 community and the HoT forum section is proof of it. EVERYONE is expecting to run zerker everywhere in PvE. Now look at all the whine posts about how hard the new HoT areas are because they all just end up getting pounded while knocked down. You’ve tricked even bad players into using the most ridicules build possible because of your silly meta.
Sadly such a small minority of players are so toxic to the community and they’re actually going to create nerfs to the game.
People with influence should be showing people other options of how to play, not focus on this ridicules zerker mentality.

Build Swap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MeveM.7913

MeveM.7913

One thing i really miss in GW is a quick and easy way to swap builds on the fly. Even if it had a 5 second cast time or something out of combat.

Reason i want this is because i really struggle to remember the builds i like and because of this i rarely change build. I just do a general one and run with it. Tabbing put and looking up what that other build i use was is so frustrating i end up not bothering. I dont mean the 10 bottom abilities i mean the specialisation trees.

A function to remember a few builds would not do this game any harm. Like i said, put a cast timer on it if it would ruin wvw or something but some people with good memories change specs in a couple of seconds anyway whilst running. Im just not one of them. Being put off to use different builds isnt a good thing though.

Thoughts? Most mmos do this and even mobas like LoL

Necro in Raids

MeveM.7913

Sigh
When will people understand that we are not saying necro isnt able to do the content. We are saying that we do it worse than others. No argument can change the fact that that is bad class balancing/game developing.

As for raids, why do people say “we dont know until its released” well what on earth can they possibly do to make any group favour a necro for any possible objective that will happen frequent enough for us not to be a burdon the rest of the raid. There isnt really anything since necro is a very selfish class and its teamplay. We dont do anything better than any other class so why bring a necro for any other reason than the reaper is a funny guy on ts or the guild leader?

I think nemesis is doing a good job. Is his attitude over the top? Possibly but he says what a lot of people think about the mentality of the meta people. Ive done my share of stacking dungeons and feel forced to play my ele even though i dont want to and it is seriously boring to do the stacking tactics. Most pug groups dont even pick up icebows when you drop them so why bother writing meta and doing meta runs when 95% of the people are just doing it because its the thing to do. Its the sheep culture we live in where everyone follows the same bandwagon. Bit hypocritical of me to say when i just said i had to play my ele. Some of us just dont get the chance though, i havent got the time to sit and wait a long time for a normal group to come by. Really wish this meta mentality died. I think nemesis has a similar view on it hence why he keeps calling them scrubs because thats what the elitist meta people call anyone doing anything different. Im looking forward to part 2 and more to for a raid and reaper video.

What is our role in new raids?

in Necromancer

MeveM.7913

So, Reaper got buffed. Very nice for solo’ing etc.

I still don’t understand why anyone would want a Necro in raids. What role do we serve that the other classes cannot do better? Our damage is still not towards the top end, our support is sub par, I feel like the reaper is actually less tanky than normal D/W vampiric build since Reaper is stuck with spite, reaper and soul reaping.

Why make it so all our might generation is for us only? We are such a selfish class that does nothing for a group. I thought this game was all about promoting team play, yet everything about the necromancer is telling us to solo, and unless raids can be solo’d we have no place in them.

Endlos.4852 really said what I feel.
I don’t want to nerf any other classes, I want to feel like Necromancer’s design actually has a place in a group.
If your class is worse than the others at pretty much everything that is wanted in PvE, and they release a new elite spec that does not change any of that in our favour, then I cannot help but feel that it’s badly designed.
If PvE content is purely designed around Zerker gear and blast finishers/fire fields then we have no place to shine.
Even if they bring in a bunch of mobs like the husks that can really only be taken down effectively with conditions then we’re still not in a great place. Other classes still do that a whole lot better. It is possible that the Scepter stuff Robert Gee is looking at could resolve that, but at the same time if it does, we have no use for Reaper if we’re expected to run condition builds.

It’s not that we cannot clear dungeons with a necro in the party, it’s just demoralizing to think and be told constantly that it’d be done faster, better and easier with someone else in the group.

Why isn't anything being done?

in Necromancer

Posted by: MeveM.7913

MeveM.7913

IMO, the problem isn’t as much with Necromancer, as it is with the way PvE is designed. Pretty much all the support we bring is unnecessary or useless in dungeons.

Robert doesn’t want to just give Necros a bunch of blast finishers and make them a conventional support. And I agree with that decision. What they need to do is make our strengths more relevant in PvE.

Id be so happy to see this. But our damage is still inferior as well.

Id love to see HoT enemy conditions to be really dangerous so we can cleanse people and get damage by shoving it on them instead. Vulnerability needs to be as lucrative as might as well

I keep reading the forum and talking to people and pretty much everyone agrees that necro is unwanted and inferior to all the other classes in PvE.

So many people are coming up with informative posts and plenty of spread sheets. Arenanet seems to be having completely different information that we clearly cant see. Even with Reaper coming out, giving them a massive chance to sort out PvE they yet fail to provide for PvE. Reaper seems to really focus on chill which is useless in pve and i believe robert gee has said they want to balance the GS after the dagger which is inferior to other classes damage output.

I really really cant understand why arenanet seem to have us necro players so much. I really try to stick to my necro which i find fun but constantly being reminded that your class is a burdon on a group isnt fun.

I dont wa t to change class but i feel like arenanet wants necro to be a bad class.

Unless arenanet makes massive changes to pve in HoT making might stacking etc nonessential and making what we bring more important then we get another 3 years on the shelf and ridiculed.

Im placing my hope on zerker builds being made impossible to run and lower the massive damage gap between classes.

At the moment I do believe you get a window asking you if you’re sure.

Anyone that reads that and rechecks what gear they’re buying probably also read the code of conducts for everything they sign up for, the minority.

That system is just a silly protection for the developers to fall back on, it’s a bad one and does not help the customer.

Why are Light’s, Medium’s and Heavy’s not in their own merchant tab? Cutting corners is my guess. I find it very peculiar how the items are listed.

I do sometimes feel like GW2 was made for the developers enjoyment, and we, the customers are just along for the ride to supply them with enough money to keep their own enjoyment going, not to provide a enjoyable product for us rather than themselves.

I’ve read some threads with the Dev tracker were a certain dev destroyed the thread writer for purchasing the wrong item by accident when rushed, I won’t quote it since they lock the threads after the Dev makes the reply and I’m going to guess it’ll break some odd forum law to quote a Dev. Anyway, why does Arenanet have such strange attitude towards mistakes?

As an example, Warcraft give you a full hour to sell back a item to a vendor and regain the same currency back, whether it’s pvp or dungeon currency. Why doesn’t GW2 offer the same? GW2 doesn’t exactly have the best shop list to start with, why are vendors selling Light/medium/heavy/light/medium/heavy and so on? Why not have them in different tabs to start with?

Sometimes I feel like Arenanet are so stubborn and refuse to use any ideas from other MMO’s. There’s a reason why WoW is as big as it is, it’s taken the best bits from all new MMO’s out there and added it to their own.

I love GW2, I just wish the game to become better, hence any complaints made by me, I don’t complain to get rid of steam, I do so to hopefully get it improved. Sometimes it just feels like Arenanet refuse to implant things in the game because the MASSIVE minority might abuse it, whilst the vast majority would use it for it’s intention.

I named the title of this thread about dungeon gear because it’s one of the things I’d like to see changed and also what the thread was about that made me write this thread. Sometimes it feels like the Dev’s reply’s are Gods will and don’t you dare disagree with it.

Mega Boss scaling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MeveM.7913

MeveM.7913

Biggest problem with the mega boss events is the same as all other events, they’re based 100% on damage done to the NPC. In normal dynamic events you’re not fighting the event, you’re fighting your fellow players in a game of tag. Dynamic event s is currently all about tagging NPC’s and getting the most possible loot, it doesn’t matter if you support other players, it’s currently a punishment to do any form of team play.

I think the way loot awards and medal/chest awards is given needs to be reworked completely, I’ll use the same example I’ve used for a while, On the centaur mega boss encounter I played my staff mesmer and spent most of my time removing conditions, giving out boons and most importantly getting probably 20-30 or even more players up from downed state, at the end I was likely more useful than someone just auto attacking the boss, yet I was given a bronze medal, a friend was given gold for auto attacking and going downed, then continuing auto attacking.

The game is currently too based on tagging mobs, if you’re in a party you should be awarded loot/chest/medals for what your group members do so you can do your role of support/condition remover. Feels like you’re punishing players with this “interactive” system because bots might abuse it, all other MMO’s I’ve played reward me loot if my party member kills a mob, even if I do not touch it, why doesn’t GW2?
This current system just promotes selfish greed and discourages team play.

Mega Boss scaling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MeveM.7913

MeveM.7913

My problem with the mega bosses are the low level ones, Maw and Behemoth are two examples. I was playing with my partner and she hit the boss plenty of times, yet she did not get a reward for either of the two. It’s in a low level area and caters for high level players, I think this is wrong. Myself as a 80 zerker warrior hit the boss and pre events the same amount as she did with a 20 mesmer, in the pre events she got bronze/silver, I got gold throughout and we were in a party. Was a rather weird experience.

Then again the events promote selfish greed anyway, not team play. If you stop to get someone up from downstate or spend time giving people boons and removing conditions you get a lesser reward than the selfish people that just mindlessly smack the boss.

It’s a very flawed system. I recall getting about 25-30 up from downstate at the centaur boss and I received a bronze reward because I didn’t damage the boss enough.

Bad design is bad.

“I swung a sword, I swung a sword again Hey! I swung it again, that’s great”

Do you remember the teaser for GW2 before it’s release? Where Colin Johanson said the above line?, well, isn’t that exactly what we’re doing in the current model?

The context of that quote has nothing to do with auto-attacks. It had to do with basic questing models and progression.

With all the class imbalances going the class sections are filled with weapon/ability comparison threads which all basically say that a lot of weapons have 1 ability that deals a lot of damage, the others are utility and actually deal less damage than the auto attack.

You apparently didn’t read those thread very well, then. If anything, those threads are trying to gauge those weapons as a whole, not attempting to prove that only the auto-attack matters.

Wait what? Did I say auto attack?

WoooOOOoooOOoo, the taboo word of all MMOs! There’s blasphemy afoot!

Yes I did, number one ability on your bar does the exact same thing as all the other MMO’s Colin Johanson was seemingly trying to ridicule with his quoted sentence. GW2 has the very same thing, I don’t get it why.

What did you expect? A fighting game where you mash a combination of swings and kicks to pull off combos? While that would be a fun type of combat, that isn’t what the game is made for. Also, if you try to only auto-attack in PvP, you’ll be blown away. Period.

Why is there a auto attack and why does it deal more damage than most special moves you can pull off?

I dunno, you tell me. What would you do when all your specials are charging? Stand around and do nothing?

I’ll give you my main class as an example, Ranger.

GS: Number two is the main damage dealer, whilst it’s on CD it’s better to auto attack until it’s back off cooldown than it is to use Swoop or Hilt Bash. (Yes I know they’re utility abilities, still doesn’t get us away from Colin’s quote.)

Use Hilt Bash to boost your pet’s special. Use Swoop in a combo field to get some extra effects. Swap weapons.

Shortbow: Auto attacks deal more damage than any of the other four abilities, I find myself on some bosses able to go AFK while my Ranger is auto attacking the boss. Auto attack even continues if the mob runs out of range and back into range!

And I bet you’re a huge contributor to your team. /sarcasm

There’s even an option in the option menu to turn the auto attack off so instead you can feel useful slamming your face on the number one key over and over.

Well that sounds painful. Why would you subject yourself to something like that?

Bottom line is, why did one of the main Arenanet dev’s come out with such a silly statement and not actually follow up on it? Reminds me of politicians that tell us about all the wonderful things they will do for us if we vote for them, well we bought your game Colin, why aren’t you keeping your word?

Mmmm, this thread reminds me of angry internet rage-quit threads that attempt to criticize something that, with all due respects, deserves it but does so in such an oblong whiny sort of way, you can’t help but smack each of their points down and remind them of the faulty foundation they base their complaints on.

Funny things is, I enjoy the game, I’m looking forward to the future and I’ve also spent £100+ on gems alone to support the game as I prefer subscription models to support the company making the game, that does however not make my thread void. I don’t PvP, Dungeons are nice but that’s about it, dynamic events does nothing for the game. I don’t write this to winge and moan, I wrote my thread because I’m genuinely wondering why they haven’t followed up on what they said. However as soon as you write a thread like this you get the over defensive people coming to Arenanet’s aid with their attempt to take a jab at every comment said.

My point is, Arenanet used a whole lot of phrases to lure us into the game, since it’s no subscription we’ve already paid what they wanted, all they need us to do is buy the expansions and hope it’s been made into what we wanted it to be.

Dynamic events are pointless since Karma is used for nothing but a bad gem box and one armour set with limited stats, even WvW tokens give a wider variety. They basically sold the game on Dynamic Events and they don’t let us do anything with it’s reward, it’s completely pointless to do dynamic events unless you’re leveling a alternative character, now people just want the dragons and other chest bosses, if they actually made the karma points viable people would get back out in the world that they spent so much time trying to ram down our throats in the manifesto and other pre game videos.

My whole point of this is that they drew us in with all these lovely dovie ideas and functions but didn’t actually do anything with it.

Ranger toolbox isn’t just utilities, folks, it’s your 1-5. And between LR and QZ, there’s a TON of utility power in just those two alone, leaving a third open for whatever you feel you may need in the fight and to better define your play style. Shortbow is full of utility and also does really good sustained DPS, so I stand by my statement of rangers having an expansive tool box.
As for Ranger DPS not matching thief burst… yeah, that’s pretty obvious – I don’t think I’m rocking some boat by saying that. I accept that trade-off of lacking burst potential for having a better toolbox of things I can do to survive while outputting consistent DPS. I can see the longbow as maybe being a bit spiky, but nowhere near what a D/D can do. Maybe a trap ranger can get a bit bursty if they hit all 3 traps at once on a glass cannon, but Ranger to me isn’t a burst class – it’s a sustain and survive class.

You can’t really avoid a ranger’s sustained damage, but you can mitigate nearly all of a thief’s burst with really fast reaction and smart play.

@Misterdevious
I once got my jaguar to hit a warrior using a rifle for a super awesome crit around 12k on a single attack when all roided up from signet and shout, and getting a lucky crit. There’s potential, but it involves luck I can’t depend on, whereas a D/D thief can depend on his skill.

Also, despite my best efforts, I could not write a post that didn’t come across as defensive lol. I’m still a ranger through and through
I’m more upset that nobody said anything whatsoever about my “swooping” into the thread… I thought that was golden.

That’s all fine and dandy with PvP. I personally don’t care what so ever about PvP, Ranger is my preferred class yet we are a waste of space in PvE. Sustain and survive does nothing for dungeon groups. I’ve lately been playing on my warrior and my constant 18-22k Hundred blades that I rarely have to interrupt to evade are way beyond anything my ranger can do. Pets still die far too easily in dungeons, even ranged pets. You can talk about pet management but it’s hard enough to react to evading things and pressing F3 doesn’t always make your pet actually evade it, they very often instead decide to take a path straight through the danger zone and die anyway. Pets are currently useless in any type of group play and since they do a massive portion of the ranger damage even without beast traits we are crippled.

I love my ranger, but I feel guilty in groups with my guild, I can run dungeons with the same group setup except me swapping from ranger to warrior and I can see a massive difference in both group help and straight up damage, dungeons go so much faster with a warrior in the 5th spot instead of a ranger.

I’m struggling to take this seriously. You want something, but you’re not willing to put in the effort. I want my payslip at the end of the month but I can’t be bothered to go to work, can you send me yours?

Basically you’re telling us that you paid the same money for your game as we did, we should all get every item available in the game sent through to us in the mail box upon reaching level 80 but that’s not fair either, we should in fact all start at 80 because I only play 2 hours so the person who plays 20 hours has a unfair advantage and I don’t want that.

We should in fact get to choose what gear we want in the character customization screen and then we can just all log off and not actually do anything because I only enjoy the goal, not the journey.

It’s like buying a singleplayer game and watching the end boss and video on youtube and not bothering to play the game.

Good luck with getting that changed. It’s called clipping errors, it’s in all games where you can customize a character. It’s also the reason why there are no games with decent cloaks. It’s hard to make armour/clothing that flows realistically and changes depending on your character. Same as you’ll find most textures are stretched to fit the body build you’re using. If you wanted this problem sorted you’d have a game that would not be playable on many PC’s and it certainly would not be a MMO.

Graphical issues which have yet to be ironed out in a effective manner. Graphics are going forward with giant leaps every year, clipping errors still remain.

Ok for starters here is this DISCLAIMER : I am not talking about pve and am just going to ignore anyone who thinks LB or Rifle are core warrior weapons.

Movement
-The primary problems with warrior movement lies on both what we can do and what we can do to the enemy

1. Passive movement speed:
Why do we, as a primarily melee class, have no passive movement speed buffs? Our only passive buff is from a trait that gives us 10%*(useless and costly).

I mean what is the reason we do not have one and almost every other range profession does? We have to be within melee range for 90% of our skills to hit/do damage, its just beyond me that we don’t have the this. What could have possibly been the mindset?
“Oh hey lets give range more passive movement speed than warrior-melee, haha, that totally won’t mess up the warriors on top of slows/cc being aoe/spammable for every range!.”

This bit is hilarious. Warrior trait gives 10% movement speed? Well that’s in and out of combat. Ranged get 25% OUT of combat. Hit them with anything and you run 10% faster than they do. Don’t see the problem, you get them in combat, use GS 5 ability, boom, up close and personal, you now run 10% faster than they do and should not be able to get away from you unless they slow you and dodge away etc, by which time you can whirlwind or charge to them yet again.

[PvE] Improve my Ranger Build

Hello!

I’d appreciate it if anyone could see if there’s anything I could improve with my build for pve.

Edit: Bad link it seems.

Traits:
20/25/20/0/5
Marksmanship: I + VIII (10% Damage full Endurance + Piercing Arrows
Skirmishing: II + X (Bleed on Crits + 20% Faster Bow CD’s)
Wilderness Survival: VI + X (20% Faster Survival Skills CD’s + 20% Faster GS CD’s or 20% Faster Offhand depending on weapon combo)

Skills:
Healing Spring
Signet of the Wild
Signet of the Hunt (Open World) / Lightning Reflexes or Search and Rescue depending on dungeon.
Quickening Zephyr
Rampage as One

Pets: I swap between double ranged for dungeons and Jaguar/Wolf in open world.

Weapons: I always use SB but swap between GS and LS+Horn, GS for opening world and some dungeons, LS+Horn for dungeons where I can get in close.
Note that I change the 2nd trait in Wilderness Survival Skill depending on the melee weapon from GS to Offhand trait.

Gear:
Armour: Rampager
Quiver: P/T/C (Ascended)
Amulet: All round stats. (Ascended)
Ring 1: Cleric
Ring 2: P/T/C
Accessory 1: P/P/T
Accessory 2: Cleric
Shortbow: Rampagers – Fire AoE Sigil
Greatsword: P/V/H – 10 Precision per kill Sigil
LS+Horn: Berserker – 10 Precision per kill + 5% Crit Sigils

I am debating whether to change all my Rampager gear with Berserker or not, or whether to go Berserker Ascended gear or to continue going for defensive Ascended gear.

Any help/advice would be welcome.

No, you already have enough.

Think it’d ridicules that you get anything at all in fact. I paid the same for GW2 as you have yet I do not have the same access. GW1 is GW1 and GW2 is GW2. In it’s current state us players that did not play GW1 for varies of reasons can at times almost feel forced to go back and play a game that’s so stoneaged that it hurts to even look at screenshots.

Rampagers vs Berserker

I’ve been running Rampagers gear with my Shortbow for a long time now but I just keep reading about people telling others to use Berserker, has anyone done any testing to find out which of the two actually deals more damage?

I’m currently running a 20/25/20/0/5 build with SB / GS or LS+Horn depending on the situation.

I just don’t understand why people cannot accept that some people don’t like it and some do, which means the best solution would be to be able to turn it On/Off.
