Alternative ways to farm gold

I always loved running the Harathi chain start to finish. Takes about an hour total. You can earn 5 gold an hour farming things leisurely, but you get a few blues and greens even though you ran the whole thing for Harathi. They have no way of tracking your progress through a chain I guess. Seems like the Ulgoth chest should have 5 gold in it if you got gold on every event leading up to it. But I guess that would be rewarding.

Their economist looks at giving 5 gold at once and probably has a kitten even though you could farm that in the same time frame. This is why the world is empty and people don’t run event chains. There are far more profitable things to do with your time.

Why do people stop playing GW2?

I stopped for 3 months about a year ago. I had a horrible time with the initial karka release waiting for events that never spawned. Logged out to play another game and didn’t pick it up again until April of this year.

I’m about ready to take a break again. I have 7 level 80’s and have come to the uneasy realization that after crafting ascended weapons for my Guardian, I have no intention of going through the kitten dung for my others. So I started just playing my Guardian since it is the one that feels like a hero, being decked out. Getting bored with it but I know I’ll never gear they others so I don’t play them anymore. So this time it’ll just be I am tired of my one build guardian due to the expense of ascended trinkets and weapons. I’m not unequipping all that hard work.

The crafting isn’t so bad on it’s own, it is just getting back to the point you can switch gear and builds and gear alts is a sisyphean task at best. They’ll probably add another tier before I’m done. Basically I feel they punished my play style. I guess most people don’t play alts regularly, they had to know they were killing them. No one likes to play a game running around feeling like less than a hero.

I’m not angry, mmo’s change all the time, it just changed for the worst for me and it wasn’t something I expected them to do after GW1.

I haven’t had an interest in legendary weapons, but through ascended crafting and getting a few temple items, it has taken me a month to get back 100K. Play about three hours a night. Did the math, glad I’m not just starting the game and want a legendary. Whoa.

So because 6 people are down at Dwayna, we should always wear zerker gear? That is the argument you are making? Because that is hilarious. Given that everyone wiping at Tequatl would be a much less feeble attempt at a defense of sucking dirt in zerker gear, you would still be hard pressed to convince the players of this game who know how often they rez people who drop to some really silly damage, versus how often entire events wipe, that it is a valid excuse for you wearing zerker gear all the time.

Thanks for the laugh though. 6 people down at Dwayna = Zerker gear for everyone. That, my friend, is my favorite bit of reasoning I’ve seen on these forums.

Go solo the Harathi event chain start to finish up to Ulgoth including the three champ centaurs and 3 champ war beats in zerkers gear and let me know if you make it. That is PvE content. Go take your skill down to the two veterans and the champ guarding the chest in Harathi at the slave camp while you are there as well. Your zerker gear is only viable in these cases when you have other players around you to revive you.

I have zerker gear, but it won’t get the job done in these cases. I promise you won’t get past the first champ in the Harathi chain at north or south forge in zerker gear solo, if you even make it that far with 10 centaurs on you at the other camps.

You talk of a zerker group, you need them. Because you can’t burn things down fast enough yourself and due to the downed state, you can always have someone available to revive each other in a rotation. That is a game mechanic saving you, not skill.

Whatever happens with the train..

I think they should make it so you can only run one dungeon path a day, like world bosses. I don’t do it, so you shouldn’t either. Same logic. Champ trains are actually needed in all the zones. Especially ones like Queensdale and Frostgorge where you have something to do while waiting for a world event.

You seem to be laboring under the delusion that it is the same people running these all day, and no doubt there are some that are farming for a legendary precursor. But many, including myself, use them for dailies, monthly and as something to do that is rewarding and relaxing while waiting for world events. Also, people who can only play in spurts due to the wife and kids being around and may need you. The champion rotations allow you to back away from the game almost instantly without making anyone wait for them like a dungeon.

Speaking of Dungeons, how exactly is the champ train any different from running CoF all day? Because I don’t see it. There are likely more people, myself included, who go into other zones and take down champs guarding chests and rich nodes which are great for ascended farming . I run into others doing the same thing I am and we team up on it. Should that be nerfed because you have a personal grudge against a group of people running 12 champs in two zones?

I find the practice to be mostly benign and the few hotheads in Queensdale you get don’t know what they are doing anyway. They are almost always the cause of champs getting killed by other players and they don’t even know it. 30 people sit on that hill in Queensdale waiting for the boar and many times no one is bothered to start the event when it is up or leave Carthage to come down on his own. That wasted time allowed the other champs to spawn and other players should feel free to clear them.

Zerker is extremely viable in predictable content. If you’ve ever played Dark Souls, the game is hard to begin with, but once you know the patterns, you can go through it on a level 1 character. The same for most PvE content in GW2. You know the behavior, you time your attacks and burn things down fast. There is no reason not to. It doesn’t need to be nerfed.

I don’t run it outside dungeons. I do my best not to consider the rest of the player base an extension of my health pool due to the downed state. Temple fights, Teq., living world where you don’t know the battle yet, etc… these are places where zerkers stick out like a sore thumb. Many are downed every few seconds. But no worry, some kind soul will get you back up.

I guess I have a little more pride than to be rezzed by the skirt wearing elementalist that just ate the same hit that had me fall over like a soccer player in a stiff breeze.
I also enjoy soloing event chains which invariably attract a legendary greatsword wielding Charr warrior that needs rezzing every 30 seconds.

Yes, zerker has its place. But in dungeons and fractals and champ farming, any place where you know where and when the damage is coming from. The rest of the time, it makes for a pretty embarassing showing.

I love WvWvW and PvP zerkers though. They are a good source of tokens. Humans aren’t so predictable are they? That is who is complaining that healing power and armor are OP.

Ascended Weapons (+armor). Pro vs. Con

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mojo.7986

Mojo.7986

Pros
-It has higher stats.
-It makes one of your characters feel like they are a hero when you are playing them.
-They have animated uv coordinates so they look “ascended”. So they have that going for them. Which is nice.

Cons
-Most of them are fugly. (See gemstore for how to change the appearance).

-Time and materials mean you will likely only ever gear one profession. Killed my alts.
(One of every weapon you use, enough armor and trinkets to support the different builds you play. Unless you like being married to one set of gear and one build, this will take a very long time.)

-No room for error in deciding what to craft. You can’t salvage it, you can’t sell it, and
the cost of the recipe for the weapon and inscription mean you better be pretty darn sure about what builds and weapons you intend to use. You can’t switch the stats or use an existing ascended weapon to craft a different set of stats on to it.

-It is a contrived game mechanic and a hamster wheel. It isn’t fun. I’ve crafted three and wasn’t the least excited. It was more like chewing tinfoil. I was happy when it was done so I could put the spread sheet away.

-More chores of things you have to do when you log in. Nope, can’t go down to Cursed Shore and finally do that jumping puzzle. I need to do my daily. I need to get my quartz. I need to charge my quartz. I need to farm my candy corn. I need to craft my daily ascended materials. I feel like my dad is over here telling me to take the garbage out and make my bed. The Hero of Shaemoor has chores now! No more adventuring for you!

I don’t think it has anything to do with fairness. They don’t go off the path finding data. If the surface cannot be traversed, there likely isn’t any data there. What happens when it comes to rest on a ledge on the side of a cliff? Something a player could get out of by jumping? Now you have to teach the AI to jump. Now you need path finding data everywhere. There isn’t much value in pursuing it and then there is having to deal with the nightmare of an engineer blowing 30 mobs off a mountain at the same time. I think they chose wisely.

This has nothing to do with anything other than their resident economist telling them to slow it down. It doesn’t matter if it isn’t rewarding, or if some people find it fun. The game would tank fast if the economy went. They have to tune the game for the player that plays one character, all day, everyday, in the most efficient way possible. Such is the reality of games with an economy. Same thing with Diablo 3. I think that game was more rewarding in terms of loot but not game play (which is rather sad). You will get your gold at the rate their economist decides you will.

So you are saying that at world events, like temples and Jormag and Teq, it is the rest of the player bases fault for not running zerk gear, that zerkers get downed at these?
So zerkers that downed in WvWvW are downed because the rest of the zerg isn’t wearing zerker gear? You’d agree with that?

“The LFG should have a gear score / AR score listed for each and every dungeon, if your gear / AR is below that threshold you cannot apply to enter that dungeon, and NO not just the dungeon instance owner but every member of the team needs to meet the required gear score / AR, some will disagree but this would protect both groups the casuals and the efficiency driven dungeon / Fractal runners by ensuring that every party members meets the minimum requirements to actually complete the content and not just drag your team down to oblivion or force people to carry you through the whole thing”

I’m down with that if you’d be agreeable to a minimum armor rating on players doing world events to ensure the rest of us that didn’t go full zerker gear don’t have to waste our time rezzing the ones that did. I get tired of watching a dozen people get downed around me in the Labyrinth when I have a 60/40 split attack power to armor. These players don’t have the necessary gear to do the events and are dragging the rest of us down. Top spin lob that gear check back into your end of the court.

Could we talk about Tequatl?

I’m actually happy they did this. I went there everyday for almost a year, never more than a rare. The new and improved Teq broke me of that habit. Unless I need to make an ascended weapon (and no temples are up), I leave them all alone now. There is no excited feeling when the boss is about to go down that maybe I’ll get a good drop. They conditioned me that it never happens. I’ve never got an exotic off a world boss. Thinking at least 1000 attempts. Probably more. That is good for the economy, bad for satisfaction and motivation.

If the game has an economy, it is not guided by what is fun or a reasonable expectation of experiencing an ounce of excitement over getting something shiny in a years time, but what is economically viable. There is nothing they can do about it. PvE is not rewarding once you hit 80. You will likely never find a drop that is better than what you crafted (in terms of looks). PvE reminds me of Diablo 3. Tuned for the economy, your fun is to farm gold and buy from the small percentage of people that did get a drop.

Everything on 7 level 80 characters I have, I crafted or bought. I learned not to bother going into the hidden places of Tyria because I know there is nothing there. No sense of excitement of what I might find. Probably a chest with 2 blues. I’d bet money on it every time. You need to farm gold and buy.

Make no mistake, this game is run by an economist. That is why the recipes for ascended are what they are. 50 elder wood planks and 50 mithril ingots. What have we been farming mostly in the upper level zones for months? They needed to clear those out. Also why the spiritwood planks and deldrimor ingots have 10 to 20 of the lesser ores and woods. I am shocked we didn’t need copper and green logs.

At any rate, runs of bad luck should last a few weeks, maybe a month. Not a whole year. I will never go back.

Downed state's Place in the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The only down side to the downed state is there is no penalty. This is what has allowed zerker gear to become the standard. Zerker players consider the rest of the player base an extension of their health pool. They drop like flies doing anything that isn’t predictable. But no matter, a few seconds of another players time and they are back up.

This is a troll topic. The only zones that have champ trains on a regular basis are Queensdale and Frostgorge. I have no trouble going to every other zone and attempting the champs there. There are hundreds of champs. You are complaining about a dozen. Kill them once anyway to prove you can do it, but if you are doing it more than once a day, then you are the one deliberately seeking out conflict.

your opinion on gears to swap skins & stats

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mojo.7986

Mojo.7986

I don’t know if they should allow you to swap stats, however…

I’ve been kicked from dungeon groups now due to the color of my sword. If it ain’t red, it ain’t making things dead. Also, the cost in time and materials pretty well locks your traits and gear. Gone are the days my mesmer could switch between a condition build and a zerk build by swapping out some gear and tweaking my traits. This has pretty well cemented builds for the near future. Wait for the howling that will ensue when new traits and skills are added and you find you should have gone with the precision weapons and the celestial trinkets to make the best use of them for example. It will get worse for armor. They should have done the skills and traits before people were asked to marry their gear. This won’t end well.

What they should do is allow you to trade your trinkets plus a laurel or two or a gold for a different one. Some fee similar to changing traits. You should also be able to re-craft a new ascended from an existing one provided you have bought the proper recipe and it would cost something along the lines of the exotic inscription plus the existing weapon to change it.

I’m not holding my breath for any of this. The whole reason they released ascended was we got exotic too fast. They want this to drag on.

I had leveled 5 characters to 40 and then went Mesmer. Took it to 80, spent all my resources on Mesmer gear and now it can’t do in PvE what I could do before. I played solo in Orr last night and I was getting killed by stuff that I normally could keep at bay and kill, which is not fun. I have no interest in putting more time into something that ANET will kill the fun of. Guess I’m done. No will to have ANET waste more of my time.
