The new condition meta is the worst state that Guild Wars 2 pvp has been in. This is even worse than WoW balance.
- Right now Ranger, Engi and Necro have spec’s that are god mode.
- Warrior is just below them where they can have specs that are pretty powerful (minor tweaks and they would be balanced)
- The remaining classes – Guardian, Mesmer, Theif and Ele are all pretty much balanced.
Bring the 3 god mode classes into line. They should not have as much survivability as they do with being able to do as much damage as they do. It needs to balance out where you either have low damage and high survivability, or high damage and low survivability, not both.
And to those of you saying just cleanse the conditions…You can cleanse them, but they will be reapplied within 1-2 seconds after you cleanse. So, you blow whatever cleansing abilities you have, then you are pretty much a sitting duck.
So, I noticed today that a ranger was just out running me while in combat without any form of swiftness on, but I did notice that he had Signet of the Hunt running. Basically I would hit him once or twice and then he would be just out of range and all I got were misses.
This prompted me to ask a few random rangers if Signet of the Hunt works in combat for them and they said that it does.
So, why does the thief’s/thieves’ Signet of Shadows not work the same way? Why does our signet not work in combat? Or, why does Signet of the Hunt work in combat?
Has anyone else noticed this? I know that Signet of Shadows has always worked like it does now – Out of combat you get the run speed, and in combat you don’t. Is this a bug for Signet of the Hunt that we should report?
Personally, I would like Arena-Net to throw us a bone and possibly make Signet of Shadows work in combat, it would help a little for getting kited by some classes that can get pretty much perma-swiftness up.
No one? It works fine testing it against the AI mobs in the mists, but when you are in an sPvP match, the trait does not work.
With the Shadow’s Embrace trait it is supposed to clear conditions from you when you are in stealth, 1 every 3 seconds.
I just did some rounds in sPvP and found that whenever I am in stealth I am not clearing any conditions when I have this trait on. I retraited to see if that might fix it, but still nothing.
Has anyone else encountered that the trait Shadow’s Embrace is not removing any conditions at all?
I rarely ever start topics on the forums, but I sometimes reply to them. So, here goes my 1st topic.
I have seen many ideas to make P/P viable, and some would be decent, while others would be kind of OP. I just haven’t seen any that just sparked my interest. So, I thought I would share my idea to make the weapon set viable in PvP.
Basically skill number 2 on the P/P set is never really used, so it needs to be changed to something useful. My idea would be to change it to a skill I would call ‘Dragon Gun’ (an ode to a crappy Witch Hunter skill in Warhammer):
Dragon Gun: Shoot an incendiary projectile at your feet, causing the ground to catch on fire and cause burning damage anyone within its radius
- Initiative Cost 3
- Burning (3 seconds) 1,000 Damage
- Ring of Fire Duration: 1 sec
- Combo Finisher: Blast
The skill would be a blast finisher with no direct damage, just the burning damage. I propose this because it allows the thief a way to stealth (Black Powder [Smoke field]+ Dragon Gun [Blast Finisher]), and the skill would not be able to spam a powerful direct damage attack, but would still do some damage with the burn.
Just thought I would share this as an idea for discussion, please share any feedback.
I also posted to possibly try to get some attention from anyone at ANet that might be reading this to look into a minor fix(buff) for the P/P weapon set.

I am going to say this as nice as possible, and I not trying to be mean here, so don’t take this personally, but anyone complaining about Flanking Strike/Larcenous Strike really need to learn how to dodge, cc, and/or create a gap between them and a thief.
If you do any of those 3 things (Dodge, CC, Create a Gap) you can negate this skill with ease. Even just 2 of these things can easily negate this skill. I know because I have done this as well as been the victim of it. I have played all classes in sPvP (long enough to get a handle of them), and I have 3 80s (Mesmer, Guard and a Thief).
Just a bit of advice:
- The skill is easily telegraphed by the obvious rolling animation, and the thieves that spam this usually use larcenous strike right away after flanking strike, so just dodge away near the end of their roll.
- The range on Larcenous strike is very small, so to actually land with it you have to be in the closest melee range, so you can try to stay just out of reach, or leap away
- And lastly, use CC on a thief – snare them, chill them, knock them down, knock them back, stun them, daze them. Most thieves run 1 stun breaker, so if you can chain cc them it really screws them over. (This goes for most thief builds). For the rare thief that runs 2 stun breakers, just spread out your cc and time your dodges.
People really seem to underestimate the power of dodge in this game. Learn to dodge at proper times and you will counter a lot of powerful attacks from most classes in this game. Endurance management goes with this as well. Keep track of your endurance and you will make dodging work even better for you.
So, I have been fine with everything ANet has done up until now. The trap is, in my opinion, stupid broken.
They either need to up the build cost and build time of the trap or they should just get rid of Stealth and think of new ways to give us a new form of defense. And, redo all of the traits and utilities that deal with stealth.
OR, they can introduce traps that negate boons, and you cannot have any boon on you for 30 seconds.
OR, how about traps that negates each class:
– don’t let Elementalists switch attunements,
– negates Guardian F-abilities and multiplies their cooldowns by 10,
– won’t allow Warriors to use their burst abilities for 30 seconds
– won’t allow Necros to go into Deathshroud for 30 seconds
– instantly kills Ranger pets on contact
– Mesmers F-abilities go on cooldown and their cooldowns are multiplied by 10
– Engi’s F-abilities go on cooldown and cooldowns are multiplied by 10
With this trap introduced they essentially are saying they don’t want stealth playing a factor at all, so why not just remove it already.
LMFAO AT EBAY “we are winning by skills, not numbers”
Says the outmanned buff in eternal for kittening 24/7 hours to your queues, and your guilds “FTF – PK – GH – Sekz” that drops AT LEAST 20ish on their rides while BP and AR only have their pugs to handle your guilds and queues. No, dream on. Your not winning by skills, not even close to skills, not even half of T4 servers skills. Ebay will get destroyed in tier 4 IF they reached it. Facts…
Nope its pure skills.
You are forgetting that AR+BP numbers are greater than our own.
I know its maddening that we’re beating the double team butWe’re just better….
No your not better, not at all lol
We are better, on so many levels that’s whats laughable. And having to fight your pathetic tower huggers and overtly poor skilled players is slowly sucking the life out of me. Your vast numbers of bads are actually dulling my skill set.
Please get better.
So much wrong with EBay posters……You do have greater numbers, and you all are the ones that RvDoor with a super early morning crew to gain so many points. You also cannot take on someone unless you have at least a 3 to 1 advantage on them. Good Job RvDoor pros.
No matter what you say on the forums you can’t refute that which is true. I’ll leave it at that.
I have to agree with this, it would be a nice buffer for when i accidentally hit shadow step twice when im in a tough fight and my adrenaline is going.
In your video at 1:52, the duel with the other thief, what did you use to go into stealth?
The Duelist Chestpiece goes well with nearly anythin, here’s my own armor combination with pieces of 5 different sets and it looks great (the only problem is that it has a small red texture line in the middle but I expect that to be corrected soon):
What is the shoulder armor appearance you are using there? I like it, and I remember seeing it before but I cannot remember what it was from.
