What's wrong with Guild Wars 2

More like:

1. SPvP is a huge step down from the acclaimed GvG fights that gave GW1 it’s competitive reputation.

I agree with most of your post. However, I think sPvP is hella fun when the group is properly matched. The matchmaking sucks though even after the recent patch. Also a decent reward system is needed and other modes of PvP like GvG as you suggest. Better rewards are on the way but they’ve said these kinds of things before and rewards are always lackluster. Would love to see some GvG.

2. particle effects too heavy (one shot in zergs because can’t see boss telegraphing)
3. zerker build only viable build in pve
4. instance ownership griefing

Re #2 – Need option to turn particle effects off. REALLY miss that about my EQ days.

Re #3 – Only? No.

Re #4 – Yes, well, that needs to get some attention. Seriously.

I’ll elaborate on #3. Zerker is the most efficient, highest dps build. On top of that, many parties don’t want anything other than zerkers. I’ve seen people get booted once their non-zerker build was revealed during play. Especially condy builds. Two condy builds in a party and you can be sure at least one of them is getting booted.

Super Gear Grind?

You’d be BIS in WoW for a couple months only, after a horrendous grind and begging your friends and guildies to run last tier’s raid to grab those last few essences, at which point they release a new patch and you throw your legendary on the scrap heap with all the other useless tinkertoys of obsolete stat sticks that you can’t even use as a transmog.

Here my legendary is truly Legendary, BIS forever. GW2 respects my time investment, something I never got from WoW.

The only thing legendary is the grind. Or your ability to open your wallet wide.

In wow you dont have to level up your professions to get the best gear, which is also part of the grind unless you have done that since the very beginning or have enough gold to get the 2-3 professions up to where they need to be. I started as a necromancer but with the mesmer warrior guardian ele zerker screw all other professions meta to actually play what i want to i have to reroll.

You dont have to reroll at all and most specs are viable unless your the elite of the elite going for world first.

And yes you can go into spvp and everyone is equal in terms of gear, but the majority play wvw since its called Guild Wars and thats the only place you can really pvp as a complete guild so if you have exotics and another guild has ascended, and both have the same skill level and people… who do you think is going to win? Of course its going to be the people with ascended gear, its a stat increase no matter how you look at it. In pve i keep seeing zerker ascended gear 4k achice points warrior mesmer guard only. To stay competitive with the rest of the players where most of the players are i have to go for ascended. Otherwise I would just get some zerker gear on my necro and try try to find some group that would want a non-cleave class unless i went conditions and no one wants a conditionmancer in their group.

Its overwhelming to a new player of how much crap you have to do after reading what was put out to begin with and then find out… its a grindy game with a very low gold income with high costs and only one way to play in pve since conditions are below useless and slow down your team.

Agree with everything you say here. I don’t mean to derail the thread, but the whole condy build issue for PvE is very disconcerting since I haven’t heard one thing from the devs on how to fix it. The complete silence concerning this is bothersome.

I completely agree with the OP here. GW2 is the grindiest MMO I’ve ever played for top tier gear, by far. In WoW and other games I at least felt like I was getting closer to my gear goals. I’ve been saving for a precursor for a year and am still very, very far from getting one let alone any ascended gear. In this same time span, I’d be BiS in WoW. GW2’s saving grace is I don’t have to raid on specific dates and times anymore. I can play or not play when I want. But yes the gear grind is atrocious and very alt unfriendly.

Guild Wars 2 isn't immersive enough.

I personally think it is the most immersive MMO I’ve ever played. Between all the NPC interactions, weather, day/night, etc., it’s completely immersive. Now I do agree that the personal story is crap and it breaks immersion.

My big beef with the game is the grind. I want the ascended and legendary stuffs but the grind makes my eyes bleed and it’s not fun in the least.

If YOU could change 7 things about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mordalus.8146

Mordalus.8146

1. Make the game less grindy (LS achievement grinding, ascended weapons, ascended armor, legendary weapons, etc.)
2. Remove the stacking = win mechanic in dungeons
3. Scale the Teq encounter for lower numbers of people
4. Add a traditional expansion
5. Make more permanent content
6. Reduce particle effect clutter
7. Make the game more alt friendly

Casual Players Buying Power

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mordalus.8146

Mordalus.8146

Part of being a casual player, as I am, is you have to realize that you won’t have the same opportunities for items or to earn as much gold as those that play more. That just goes with the territory of casual play in an MMO. The other option is to buy gems and convert to gold. That’s just the way it works.

The thing for me is that I’d like to play more, but it’s not worth my time unless it’s for a new content release.

It’s not worth my time, because other people are driving the prices so high I can’t possibly invest the time to go after the armor skins, weapon skins (not legendaries that is understandable), or dyes that I’d like.

It’s also hard to experiment with different builds, because of how expensive it is to change them.

This is exactly why GW2 is no longer my go-to MMO. I just can’t save gold faster than the rate of inflation which means I will never be able to acquire any shinies. WoW is once again my go-to game since I will be able to get the things I want eventually, even at a casual pace. I wish it was otherwise because I love the GW2 combat and art style. But it’s so frustrating not being able to save gold faster than the rate of inflation. GW2 is now my game to go to when I get an itch to do the Living Story updates.

Why do people stop playing GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mordalus.8146

I started out loving GW2 but have been playing less and less and going back to playing WoW more and more. Why? It comes down to grind mainly but a few other things as well.

1. The grind for anything considered non-essential in this game is absolutely brutal. Ascended weapons, legendary weapons, living story and event skins all require a mind-numbing, eye-bleeding grind. I don’t mind some grind. But this is just brutal and is very much along the lines of an Asian grinder. WoW on the other hand also has grind but not nearly as bad. I feel the items in WoW are attainable with casual play. But things like precursors and ascended weapons in GW2 just aren’t worth the brutal grind for casual players. Hell I’ve been saving for a precursor for a year and can’t save faster than the rate of inflation on the kitten things. And flipping on the TP is just plain BORING!

2. Dungeons? Stack, LOS, and AOE. Yawn.

3. Living story? ZERG! Temporary content. Achievement grind. Yawn.

4. WvW? ZERG! Musical chairs! Yawn.

5. sPVP? Matchmaking is completely broken. Rewards are a snoozefest.

6. RNG. Nuff said. Put more stuff in the cash shop and less stuff locked behind RNG. I’d buy a lot of the stuff with gems but I’m not given the option. I refuse to buy gambling boxes. Also, the mystic toilet is a perfect example of “the house always wins.”

7. No way to turn down particle effects. I can’t seen a kitten thing in a zerg and usually get one shot because of it. Not fun.

8. The camera blows. Way too much collision.

I could go on. But I’ll close with a few things that GW2 has going for it.

1. Graphics. The world is stunningly beautiful.

2. Dynamic events are much more interesting than static quests and are a hell of a lot of fun when the number of players is just right requiring actual tactics and not facerolling.

3. Action combat is fun! I love not having to stare at hotbars and cooldowns. Too bad I usually can’t see anything due to over the top particle effects.

If ANET addressed the grind and just a few of above issues, I’d be feeding my money into the gem story regularly. As it stands, I’m finding pandas and pokemon pet battles more fun and Blizzard has been getting my money instead because shinies are actually attainable within a few months of casual play.

It’s a shame because everything is in place for GW2 to be a home run. But it just isn’t mainly due to grind.

Handling of Ascended Weapons was Atrocious

I personally don’t mind how rings, accessories, and backs were implemented. It never felt like a grind to get those items. Just playing the game the way you want usually allows you to get them. What I don’t like is how incredibly mind numbingly boring it is to farm the ori and wood necessary to get to 500 crafting. The other ascended mats are fine because they’re linked to fun activities like world bosses and dungeons. The ori and wood grind is the worst.

Is precursor crafting going to happen or not?

Mordalus.8146

two things you can guarantee:

1. it won’t be fun and will be a mindnumbingly tedious chore
2. it will require an huge laundry list of materials

Please don't make us craft ascended armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mordalus.8146

Mordalus.8146

My problem with the ascended weapons has been that the grind to acquire the materials is just not any fun. There are so many fun aspects to the game that they could tie ori and ancient wood to but they force us to do repetitive and mind numbing activities to get these materials. Love the combat, dungeons, WvW, lore, etc. Hate the crafting grind which I feel is necessary to stay competitive in WvW.

Please do something to make this FUN instead of a CHORE that makes me want to resub to WoW. The carrot chasing in WoW is more fun than this endless quest for materials although the combat is dull.

After weeks of failing to find a group for SE story using GW2LFG, I finally got one within a few minutes of using the lfg tool tonight. Worked like a charm! I would recommend a tutorial so that everyone knows where it is and it exists. Maybe a tutorial that rewards achievement points for using the tool for the first time. That way everyone knows where it is and how to use it.

After the last update, I thought Anet was thankfully moving away from gambling boxes. But they’re back! Love the game. Want the skins. Hate the boxes. Refuse to buy any. This type of monetization makes me wish for days when MMOs were sub only. Spend 15 bucks, grind away for what you want. Now it’s spend 50 bucks plus and pray you get something. Like many, I would happily give Anet my cash if they offered the skins straight up in the shop. As it stands now, they get nothing from me.

But there must be plenty of sheeple out there willing to gamble.

Lost and Found Bugs and Customer Service

in Living World

Posted by: Mordalus.8146

Mordalus.8146

I love GW2. I purchase a monthly allotment of gems that I never really use. So I’m a paying customer. I diligently worked through all of the Living Story achievements but ran into a bug for the Lost and Found achievement. The last item would not spawn for me. I submitted a support ticket and basically got a canned response stating to submit a bug report blah blah blah. So I submitted another support ticket asking to have the achievement advanced since it’s bugged. They said NO. So basically all the time and effort I spent on the achievements was for naught since I cannot get the gauntlets.

I’m in the process of asking for refunds for the game and gems I’ve purchased and closing and deleting my account. ANET would rather let a paying customer go than provide a workaround for their bugs.

So for anyone else that values customer service, this is what you will get when you run into a bug that ruins your gaming experience. Honestly, I had better customer service with EA than with ANET. Imagine that!

I was in this one as well after trying and trying. My group was very happy to finally get in and BLAM! Plug pulled. I submitted a ticket and I’ll be asking for a refund if they don’t make it right. This entire event was a huge waste of time for no payoff. I’d rather spend my refund money on the lotro expansion if they don’t make this right.

Honestly, I was expecting more from Anet with this event after the successful and fun Halloween event. It’s been a complete debacle so far.

Event kick-off was a complete lag fast. Something needs to be done about limiting the number of people in the next event or instancing the event better. The choice to put one NPC in a tiny little house with 3000 people crowing in wasn’t a good move either. There should be no excuse for the number of broken NPCs. Was this event even QA/QCed prior to release? Very poorly implemented event for such a high-quality game.

I would suggest packing up the event, rewarding the community with something for their patience, and relaunching it after proper testing.
