The stacked vulnerability from traited grenades alone will outdamage that short quickness buff, so it’s completely useless in PvE.

Even if a lot of people love elixir gun it’s useless.

Sorry but you obviously have no clue. All the utility skills aside (heal, condi removal, weakness, cripple, stun break) it is the engineer’s blast finisher with the shortest cooldown:12 sec. if traited (highly recommended) and also has the largest damage multiplier of all engineer skills (6×0.85=5.1)

*applies confusion *

This.

Your build is extremely vulnerable to conditions: you have only 15k life and only 1 condition removal that takes 3 actions to accomplish (switch to MK, drop antidote, walk over it).
If you meet another glass build it’s really a matter who gets his burst out first, but you don’t stand a chance vs. a well played condi bunker build (dire gear + perplexity runes).

A single long duration burn will kill you, if masked with 1-2 other conditions.

Game Updates: Traits

Please change defending Lyssa’s temple to also grant the trait.
I’ve tried to get this one since release, camping it for hours, the temple has not been contested even once. I have 8 characters that need unlocking…
I could easily buy the trait it from my trainer, but it feels like skipping content. I prefer to actually play the game.

Please move the trait from Karka Queen to something that is available much more often, or even better remove her and the 2 really big bosses from this stupid schedule. The spawn times are well outside of most employed adults’ game time in Europe.

Please gate traits through level appropriate content. An example: Speedy Kits is the first trait recommended for engineers to make exploring Tyria more fun. By the time you can fulfill the requirement you are mostly done with exploring.

Use Stimulant before you engage enemies not in the middle of the fight.
Pre-stack 1-5 on point when out of fight capping/guarding or drop while moving from/to a fight.
Dodge/block immobilize or use rifle #4.

It is much cheaper to get several sets of ascended jewellery than armor, so 1 set of ascended celestial armor to mix with other stat combos on ascended jewellery is a viable option for engineers.
If you’re talking about exotics just make full sets (jewellery + armor) of the required stat combo.
Celestial is very versatile but lost quite a good portion of its damage with the latest release, so besides the one armor fits all builds option, I wouldn’t bother.

Myth: Flamethrower highest DPS in PvE?

in Engineer

Posted by: Mork vom Ork.2598

Mork vom Ork.2598

I dont think flamethrower has the highest dps on itself as a kit. But when it comes to using flame wall to stack about 12-15 stacks of might for your entire party (dungeon runs). And using the skill 2 as much you can, and swapping to rifle for jumpshot every now and then.. Then the DPS is pretty nice. I would advice higher boon duration/might duration runes though. Looking at it that way, you do have more dps.
Thing is that other classes have easier might stacking ways for your team, or similair. Guardian only needs his staff for 12 stacks of might (lol) We need at least 2 skill slots and use combo finishers. And if more ppl have the same idea, your max is still 25 stacks of might so.. yea. Also often i get my fire wall messed up because other ppl use diffrent auras over them, and you wont get the might stacks but retaliation instead… lol

You can just as well stack might with the bomb kit, if not better, as the field is much easier for allies to hit (480 diameter cirlce vs. a thin line).
The fire field uptime is also comparable: 10s every 24s for FT (41.7%) or 3s every 8s for BK (37.5%, both with cooldown traits).
And the bomb kit even comes with another blast finisher.

FT comes with a lot utility for PvP but really has no place in PvE, except if you want to tank up (e.g. dredge fractal) or for tagging mobs in world events.

The failure to split EU communities by there home server (esp language based ones)- shows the lack of US understanding on different societies work. Europe is a very complex hub of many languages, cultures, histories and styles.

I don’t think it’s that — it’s money. Anet is just trying to save as much money as possible. The obvious solution is to have a megaserver for each language. But that would mean several copies of each map (one for each language) must be instanced at any time-- and that’s more costly than one single copy with everyone dumped into it.

If they keep following this route, they’re going to spend a lot less money on servers in the future, but not in a positive way. People play a multiplayer game with friends, guilds, they build a community.
The current implementation of server merge (they can call it megaserver if they like, it is a server merge) does a perfect job of tearing those communities apart.
The biggest incentive to stay with any multiplayer game is the community.
I can play with a number of random people on any new multiplayer game I join.

We didn’t ask for a chat filter, we asked for smart merging of servers to mega-maps (so basically what ANet promised before the patch).
And as a lot of people do not read patch notes or the forums, you can expect a default setting to off causing mayhem.

The newly introduced chat filter is NOT a solution to the problems. It is only sweeping them under the rug.
Instead of not being able to coordinate a Tequatl or 3H-Wurm raid due to the language barriers, now we are unable to do so due to the chat filter. You replaced problem A with problem B, the cause and the results are the same.

Please change the algorithm to only merge people to a mega-map from the same type of home server: international, French, German, or Spanish.
Make guest server override the home server setting, so people from low population clusters (e.g. Spanish) have a chance to join the big blob if they want.

As for our countrymen in international groups and maps: EVERY german has english as a first foreign language right after elementary school, the trend is even going younger.

Maybe you should broaden your horizon a little outside of your peer group.

I know of two dozen german players myself who can read a little bit of english but are not fluent enough that they can write in english, so I have to do some translating for them (I am not that good myself). Writing in english takes more time than in the mother tongue. Translating takes time. Typing takes time. In some events there is not enough time for this without beeing killed.

Ignorance is no excuse here, it is just arrogance.

Yes. totally. But this goes both ways.

Greetings.

broaden your horizon rather applies to people not willing to engage a conversation in a language they should know in this case. I am not talking about writing a thesis on the power pattern in Shakespeare´s Tempest here, but the very basic language that is used in a mmorpg. And yes, there are a few schools that choose french first, but that does not change the fact that no German can bypass english lessons at an early age. As for eastern germans – well, that applies to people past a rather high age as of now, english has replaced russian in importance by far and long ago.

So basically you’re saying:

- “high age” people have no place in this game
- people from the former Warsaw pact countries have no place in this game
- the required language for a game that has been localized to a specific language and even has dedicated servers is english?

You sir are the one who needs to broaden your horizon.

And as a side note, I work for an American company here in Germany, and even they, who are usually accused of forcing “their” language unto others , have realised that there is a lot more profit to be made if you speak the local language, especially past the EU’s eastern borders.
There is a reason software companies spend lots of resources and money to localize games.

Rose… there is a problem with this. Sometimes a world boss starts and in one spanish servers there are only 10 people waiting. For example the mega destroyer is impossible to do with 10 people.
So spanish people (for example) will never have the possibility to do some big world bosses because there is not so many people doing some bosses?
I think the mega server is a gerat opportunity to do the bosses you would never do in your server.

Guest an international server for those events then, you have the choice. Choice is always much better than being forced into something. I play on SFR since release, which is marked as an international one (EU flag) and we never had any big problems with different languages being spoken. Some national guilds recruited in their native language, that was all. Nobody complained, because everyone had chosen to play this server type.
But now…

FYI, you never had to do that. Just picking e.g. a Grandmaster trait autoassigned 30 points to that skill tree. To retrait 70 skill poits usually meant klicking 3-4 traits – it still works this way now. The +- buttons however allowed for small stat increases while leveling, this is completely gone now.

The majority of people will be from your server. There might be a couple who are not, but that doesn’t matter.

Maybe, some day, if they ever get this “sorting” algorithms right, it will work like this.
Right now this is NOT the case. Server communities have been effectively destroyed.

Edit: I just looked up the “guides” for both FF events you have referenced. There is no coordination required that could be even remotely compared to Tequatl or Wurm encounter. Also, to me it looks like if the attempt fails and the “raid” is wiped you can start a new attempt.

Well i am a native german, but i have always stuck to the english speaking servers.
The current possibility of being put onto a german server is very much against my interest and therefor i see it a bit different.
At least for the german speaking part of the community i can say that a lot of them seem to ignore any languages except for german. Even if people group up with them and try to get them to speak english they refuse and ignore it.
It my have been that it was/is the same for french/spanish communities, but i can´t tell because i can´t read those languages.

I second that, the day I will be forced into a german speaking environment by IP is the day I will quit. As for our countrymen in international groups and maps: EVERY german has english as a first foreign language right after elementary school, the trend is even going younger. Ignorance is no excuse here, it is just arrogance.

This is not true. You can still pick Latin or French as the 1st foreign language in a lot of schools, then continue with e.g. Spanish as the 2nd. And some decades ago it was possible to get your Abitur without ever attaining a single English lesson.

Also there are a lot of people aged 30+ that play this game. Their last English lesson (if they even had any) is decades ago and let’s be honest, if you never use a foreign language outside of school, you forget it very fast.
Being forced to speak a language they don’t know or hardly remember makes most people feel very uncomfortable or embarassed. Especially when there was no need to do it before the patch.

Another problem with this babylonian language mess is organising events like Teq or 3H-Wurm.
If your event zerg is split into 4 main fractions (english, french, german, spanish – all of these used to have their own servers) where a lot of people do not understand what the other 3 are saying, the event is destined to fail. And then the blaming and hate starts. This already used to happen a lot on the overflows for the living story events like scarlet’s marionette, now this is the standard game mode on the main maps.

Also don’t forget that there is a game mode called WvW that is a source of rivalry between servers that naturally carries over into PvE.
It’s like expecting fans of Real, PSG, Bayern and ManU to support a mixed european football team. Not going to happen.

And of course european history with thousands of years of intermittent wars (2 of theam spreading all over the world) and longstanding enmities does not help this cause.

It’s hilarious people are upset with being paired with other languages. The problem of toxic map chats isn’t with the megaserver. It’s with your community. You ever play FFXI or FFXIV? Japanese, English, French, and German players sharing servers and map chats, and what do you know? No one cares about seeing a line in another language.

Report the people flaming others in map chat. Tell them to shut up. Nothing is wrong with being exposed to other languages.

French servers should be grouped together. German servers should be grouped together. It’s a huge mess at the moment.

They are. They just happen to be grouped in the same map. It’s fairly simple to understand.

Does FFXI or FFXIV have world events that take perfect coordination and organization from all people on the whole map and can only be done once per day due to the new boss synch system?
Where 4+ fractions doing the event but not being able to understand each other means certain failure?
Does FFXI or FFXIV have a WvW game mode and then forces you to play PvE together with the “enemies” you face there?
Where are you supposed to recruit players for a WvW guild or call for help defending a WvW map?

Problems with the new trait system:

- Upleveled characters do not stand a chance in WvW. It was already hard before this change, now it’s pointless to enter WvW before hitting 80.
- Unlocking events are bugged and/or random/unpredictable
- Characters below lvl 80 are even less likely to be included in dungeon runs (e.g. engineer without grenadeer trait)
- Leveling up is even more boring than before, due to much slower character progress

Good:
- resetting trait spec anytime anywhere, although the interface feels a bit clumsy

Could you please add a way to preset and save 2-3 trait distributions for a quick and easy swap?

My 2 cents towards european megaservers and their current implementation:

4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a server and a community, whose teamwork may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a guild, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5 And the ANet came down to see the community and the teamwork, which the children of men builded.

6 And the ANet said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

8 So the ANet scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the community.

9 Therefore is the name of it called Megaserver; because the ANet did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the ANet scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

The boss synchronization, as it is implemented now, kills the fun in the game. I don’t need any additional chores when playing a MMORGP, everyday life has enough of them. With only a few hours game time on weekdays (and usually even less on weekends) I want this to be a relaxing experience and not feel like I’m still at work.
Also, as I usually work from 9am to 7pm CET and need approx. 1 hour to commute, I’ll probably never see any of the 3 big bosses again.
I might catch a late 8pm Tequatl overflow if I’m lucky, but the chances of completing this event with an unorganized “group” of people, all speaking different languages (thank you EU-Megaserver) are nonexistent.

Mork vom Ork.2598

Hmm i think its still a very good trait, the 33% trheshold is a lot often reached then the 25%. 100% was just plain OP. You were letterly immortal for a lot of condi builds.
50% at least doesnt make you immortal to condi, but at 33% hp its not so hard to fall back and recovver shaking off those condi easely.

AR will not help you with “falling back and recovering” as it does not affect conditions that are already ticking, only those apllied when below 33% life.

If you get hit with stacked conditions below 33% it does not matter if they last 5 or 10 seconds, you’re dead if you can’t remove them.

And if you can remove them, it does not matter if they would have lasted 5 or 50 seconds. Therefore AR is completely useless now.

It was only useful for very specific builds anyway but as it is now, if you’re going 30 Alchemy there are much stronger traits to pick. And most of them aren’t even Grandmaster…

If they made it a 50% condition damage reduction (similar to ranger’s Bark Skin) it would at least be useful for some builds.

Might be just a tooltip bug, but the shown damage value does not scale with the rarity of the equipped weapon. Reverse engineering from the tooltips gives a fixed weapon strength of 923 (rounded) for all kits, no matter which weapon is equipped.

I’d very much like to test if this is just a bugged tooltip. Sadly the practice dummies from Lion’s Arch are gone and testing vs. mobs is too much of a hassle.

It really depends on your build. Rifle, SD and toolbelt skills profit from the increased weapon damage, while kits obviously don’t. Pistol and shield also do, but their direct damage does not really matter much.
If you have limited resources and play a bomb or grenade heavy build, crafting armor first might be the better option concerning the reward. Considering the current prices for cloth scraps it’s definitely the more expensive option ;-)

Why is Sigil of Earth Not Popular?

I was referring to our kits having no cooldown, which allows us to swap weapons (=kits) just for the sigil effect, then immediately switch back without having to stay on the swap weapon for a full 10 seconds as other professions.

Kit damage affected by weapon damage?

in Engineer

Well… it really feels like a hit in the face. Because i got through all the trouble to get my hands on a legendary weapon. But I’m an engineer so i use my kits off course. BUT when ever i equip a kit not only is my legendary absolutely useless regarding the damage, but every tool-belt-skill like big bomb and grenade barrage suffers from that.
This should NOT be the case. Why did i get a legendary when A-net don*t let me use its power, instead we*re stuck with exotic power? Why? There is no reason. please fix this.

Actually tool belt skill damage is based on your weapon, even if you have the kit equipped. The tool tip changes if you equip a kit, but the damage does not. You can easily test it: equip a white lvl 1 weapon and hit the dummies in Lion’s Arch with your toolbelt skills with weapon/kit equipped.

It’s single target only and even with a crit chance of 50% it takes on average 2 attacks to trigger it, adding approximately another 1.5 – 2 seconds to the cooldown duration. Even with a 100% condi duration bonus this gives a max. 3 stacks of bleed.

The only way to reliably trigger the bleed almost immediately when it’s off cooldown are grenades and flamethrower #1 with a very high (>70%) crit rate. Grenades can easily stack 25 bleeds by themselves (even @ low crit) and FT#1 is so weak, that using it is a dps loss no sigil can compensate.

Sigil of Geomancy gives 3x 7sec stacks of bleed to multiple targets and some direct damage on top. And it is a 100% trigger on weapon swap, on which engies have no cooldown.

Turret Bunker

You have no stun break, no stability and no considerable way to deal damage.
If you place the turrets away from the point any skilled enemy will just walk in and launch/knock/fear you off.
They may not kill you fast but you won’t kill them at all and they will still recap the point.

If you place them on the point you may hold them off for a while, unless a warrior/guard with stability just kills them with 1-2 aoes.

And they have a 240 base radius. The trait adds 60. Thats 25% increased radius.

The base radius is 300 / 240 / 180 for BoB / glue / rest.
The increase in radius is 20% / 25% / 33,3% and the area increase is 44%/56,3%/77,8% respectively.

Point of Gating Celestial?

in Crafting

Mork vom Ork.2598

After the incoming crit damage nerf to celestial, it will become a lot less attractive to craft.
Right now a full set of ascended celestial armor adds 19% crit damage, while a full set of ascended berserker armor adds 17% crit damage.

After the change to ferocity, the berserker set will have 235 ferocity which is supposed to be equal to the 17% crit damage before the change.
The celestial set will end up with 147 ferocity, which then will roughly equal 10% crit damage.

Mortar oh how I hate you.

The only application for Mortar I have found so far, is the Great Jungle Wurm event, as it will protect you from the periodic fear and has a large enough range to stay outside the wurm’s aoe launch. Mortar is not great there but convenient.

Any other boss where long range & stability would be welcome (Jormag, Golem, Giant in Nageling, Shatterer etc.) just kills the Mortar with a few aoe.

Confirmed. Could be another turret bug, but actually in our favor for a change.
It is kind of sad, that their best PvE utility is getting blown up…

Edit: no matter how much I try, I can’t get stealth from blast finishers to go above 13 seconds. It may be possible to get ~18 seconds of stealth if the group moves in a tight formation and you throw Elixir S after the first blast stack has expired.

Kits and damage

in Engineer

Posted by: Mork vom Ork.2598

Mork vom Ork.2598

Engineer kits have their own damage value which scales with the character level and is supposed to be balanced to exotic weapons, at level 80 kit damage is 878 – 969.
This weapon strength affects the #1-5 skills of all kits.

The damage of their toolbelt skills (Big Ol’ Bomb, Grenade Barrage ect.) is based on your actual weapon (rifle, pistol or harpoon gun), regardless if the kit is equipped or not.

Just a small remark regarding the stealth stack rotation: from my experience Thump will only activate, if the turret is active. For this it (and the engineer) needs to have been in combat at least once (it will keep firing indefinitely after) or a target to attack (in approx. 600 units range) which might be close enough to draw aggro.
However, any damage dealt (and our stealth blast finishers have plenty) will result in the revealed debuff ruining your stealth so some careful planning is needed to get all 3 blasts.

Also, the blast finishers from blowing up turrets and Rumble are centered on the engineer, Detonate and Thump are centered on the mine/turret.

fyi. pull negates blocks and actually removes them.

I was listing what happens after the pull is successful. Experienced players know there is a burst incoming.
