I agree with OP.
“Dodge” seems like it was shoe horned in, and the AoE circles are misleading as your mind wants to react to THAT, not the hard to see attack it’s warning you of (which hits you well before you register the AoE)
Ranged Enemy NPC attacks track you regardless of how you move, and Melee Enemy NPCs stick to you like glue. Why is the stamina bar so stingy considering the pace of attacking? Blah. Nice try but no.
Teras battle system is flawed slightly but it’s leaps and bounds above other MMORPGs including GW2.
Dodge only works as intended in the most dullard of bossy fights. No
I don’t think the point was to “eliminate” the Holy Trinity, it was to free people from being pigeon holed into those roles. I feel ANet should offer even more skills/weapons to allow people to make that decision on their own, no matter what gear they have.
You don’t pay a subscription. I just want you to sit and think about that for a minute.
Because you’ve clearly thought about the other variables. There’s no way the OP could have spent money outside of subscription. Poor ANet did all this for us… the players… for free.
I don’t understand where all this rage is coming from. Progression is very important in an MMO, but raid-style grinds are an awful way to go about it. I have a feeling ANet thinks the same way.
This added layer of gear allows you to keep doing the things you have been doing and loved since launch. I’m excited, my friends are excited. I just don’t get the rage. People fear change, I guess.
Everyone I have talked to in-game ranges from excited to indifferent about the Ascended armor. This makes me believe the extremely loud complaints are actually from an exceedingly small representation of the player-base. When people are satisfied with something, they generally don’t go out of their way to write about it.
Do you HONESTLY think people are against “progression” or the fact they would shoe horn a tier between Exotic & Legendary stats for no good reason after telling everyone “Exotics = Legendary stat wise… don’t worry”. You really really can not fathom why people would be a little miffed at being told one thing to entice purchase , then getting switched upon purchase?
After a certain point, our new Ascended items and Infusions become crucial tools for survival.
…and scene.
For all the MMO games which have a
logicalprogression of gear, you’re really getting your rage on when Guild Wars follows suit.
Um, yes?
“Please nerf condition damage, it keeps killing me before I get close enough to kill the person who inflicted it”
I personally feel that this whole shoe horned “tier” is an attempt to increase GEM Shop sales of these:

You want to keep up with the progression of the game? Sure you do, that’s why you bought it. You worked pretty hard for the exotic gear, runes & sigils you’re wearing right? Sure you did, you even ignored some Legendary items because your Exotics looked better (you thought you had that option).
What do you do when you have your new Ascended Gear, but you hate how it looks?

=\
OP is assuming people don’t want progression and new gear. That’s not the point. The point is they could be offering the exact same thing minus the stat increases, and gear requirements to progress dungeons.
“We’d like to create a create a tier between 150 & 150, so we are increasing 150 to 200 and adding in 175 and putting some shiny things around 175 to entice the ignorant. 200 will be keeping it’s original properties thus weirdly making 175 better and more necessary to do things. Yes we know our actual reasoning for making 175 is fabricated, silly and contradictory to our mission statement. See you at the gem shop” -ANet
“Our intentions are not to create a gear treadmill… what we are proposing is a gear treadmill but calling it something else because gear treadmill is a bad word. NO we will not promise to never do it again, but we’ll try not to do it every 3 months. Maybe 4-6? See you at the gem shop folks!” -ANet
“We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.”
People are not stupid. They are going against the initial sell/mission statement for the game. All this means is that after 4 months they’re free to Romney the community again and we’re back in a thread similar to this one arguing semantics and definitions when the core issue is they have pulled a bait and switch with peoples expectations.
There’s no way to to spin that into a positive light.
A great content update marred by a potential deal breaker of this magnitude. Why? Why NOW?
I can’t believe ANet is risking so much of their credibility for this and so early. The community was already behind the game. Most were just seeking to explore new areas on the map, see some new mobs, dungeons, and lore. Everything would have been fine if they kept things cosmetic. Even if they wanted to add the Infusion function, it could have been done as an attachment to existing Exotic gear.
What’s even more foul about the entire deal is that many people believing ANets initial mission statement didn’t chase down legendary weapons because they didn’t like the way they looked. So now those people are behind the ball so to speak. What about the people who invested in crafting?
I don’t understand how a developer who has such an involved community doesn’t do a simple poll to gauge a response.
Something doesn’t smell right about how final the decision is. Bad form, very bad form.

I find it hilarious people are too busy defining “lie” “treadmill” and “progression” and ignoring the plain and simple fact that Guild Wars 2 is proposing a balk on a core philosophy that was a sell point for many supporters.
Can we all agree this proposed addition is not in tune with what Guild Wars 2 has been about at this point or what it was proposed to be about?
I’d be really proud of ANet if they decided against this and focused on appearance (looks, weapon particle effects, sound effects, etc…), and used the time to introduce new weapons or skills to round out class types to further move away from the trinity.
Question. Why didn’t they just introduce a ton of new awesome looking skins to work for and make the new “slots” they’re putting on Ascended Gear items you could imbue to your existing Exotic Gear? Then you could put the Infusions into those.
I don’t know, but I think people would be happier seeing new weapon types, new skills, and new skins for weapon and armor rather than stat increases. Weird news.
I can only speak for myself. I’m not a jaded professional mmorpg player.
I’m an Engineer, I pretty much play it exclusively.
I purposely did not go after Legendary Weapons (Rifle, 2 Pistols, and Shield) because I pretty much felt like their look (especially the pistols and rifles) were ugly, and silly.
Am I correct in assuming that because I avoided these ugly weapons, that I missed out on having “the most powerful” weapon I could have in my inventory? That sort of bothers me. Maybe I’m mistaken.
Why didn’t you just waypoint?
I assume he didn’t want to spend silver on bullies and/or because he was in combat.
Escaping would have be quiet easy, but if he would be able to ‘let it go’ he wouldn’t have contacted the GL in the first place.
I meant after he died the 2nd time. Don’t understand the point of hanging around to get taunted.
The story is vague and fishy. Regardless, contacting a player about the conduct of other players wasn’t a good decision.
I always viewed “RP” people as fringe members of the gaming community.
How come hardcore RP people don’t just do the Second Life thing (or whatever it’s equivalent is), and buy an island lol? Second Life seems more in step with what you’d want.
Story just reads like a whole bunch is being left out.
Why involve another random person because of 2 individuals?
How did the guild even manage to find you?
How did these mobs manage to stick to you and kill you? Did you not move AT ALL?
Why didn’t you just waypoint?
Forgive me. When I pick up and play games I really don’t do all types of research, I do what I want or think is cool and run with it.
I picked Engineer, and I’m running condition damage all the way. I have never experienced much problems getting through any content.
In a perfect world, what is supposed to change for a player like me if Condition Damage is improved? What is so terrible about it now? Am I supposed to be having problems killing things?
There’s 2 sides to every story.
OP could have avoided issues by simply reporting the first time and going on about his business.
How did this group of people even find you a 2nd time?
Considering how unreasonably fast the blossoms spawn, and how lethal they are you’d figure ANet would really make sure they weren’t glitched when people try to destroy them.
I’m an Engineer and sometimes I’m sitting right in front of them and can’t clear them unless i swap to grenades and AoE them. It’s a pain especially when you’re trying to quickly trying to get back to your party after wiping (considering the wealth of way points they placed).
It’s a very silly bug, and should have been addressed already. Really.
