Open raid content doesn't work!

If ANet is not going to allow instanced massive raids, then eliminate this overflow thing and allow people to switch channels so they can team up and coordinate better.

It’s pretty silly that some people will never complete this content because they don’t have the time to log-in and wait 2-3 hours to get into the main instance. So they get knocked in to overflow where other peoples mistakes mean way more.

The only times I have cleared Marionette is when on main server where there was enough people to compensate for the general ineptitude of the casual player base (sorry guys but it’s true).

Either allow players to get into other platforms when they’ve finished their own to help out or provide a feature for people to coordinate better.

I mean kitten it, I’ve already cleared it and got Scarlets dumb book with the dumb code that doesn’t do jack kitten. I could be selfish and not care as I’ve “got mine” so to speak.

I really don’t think ANet plays Guild Wars 2 with their player base. They’re too oblivious for me to believe that, or there are too many brown nosers continually kissing kitten for them to care perhaps.

It’s silly that people think it’ can’t be completed in the overflow….because I’ve beaten it in the overflow quite a few times.

Nowhere did I state that it “can’t be completed in the overflow”, nor were any of my statements absolute enough to draw that. I’m sure if people manage to coordinate properly anything is possible (which is why people are suggesting instancing so they can properly group and do so).

What happens to those unlucky folks who do everything they’re supposed to every time, but are in the undermanned overflows with the trolls or bad players. What about the bad players and trolls who get carried to free loot in the main instance? Is that cool?

All of that would be avoided if people could join up at their leisure and allow pugs to pug if they don’t want to deal with any “elitism”.

Wurm could have been an instanced “raid” so people could coordinate better. It’s not like GW2 isn’t instanced as hell already.

This whole Real Guild Wars 2 vs. Overflow Guild Wars 2 shows a level of ineptitude on the part of ArenaNet because they keep doubling down on events like this.

The whole spawning 10000 Champions until they get culled out and peoples skill bars stop working. It’s irresponsible and bad design. It leaves people asking the all too popular question of “Does ArenaNet even play their own game?”.

I don’t mind failing at a task, what I don’t like is not being given a fair chance to be successful.

I really have no desire to try Wurm or Marionette again because I’ll most likely get dumped into some kitten end overflow of people that aren’t coordinated and players can’t take it upon themselves to clearly coordinate on their end.

Really? So I played condition damage and get kicked in the balls for that. Then I work my character over to go for a more berzerker heavy build including Ascended trinkets and then I lose 10% of my damage for it (which wasn’t great to begin with).

DPS only game + downed state mechanics + unbalanced classes who have more survivability than others + zerg only content with no real mechanics besides dodge and move + 1 shot kill bosses = Why would you do anything other than full zerker gear

It’s not the gear that’s the problem, its game play. The risk vs. reward for full zerk gear isn’t the same for every class. So if you’re the type who optimizes you’re going to play a certain class, with a certain gear. No point in beating that dead horse into glue.

People run full dps because condition damage is, has and always will be kitten AND there’s absolutely no reason to rock any other type stats (maybe a lil health and some toughness) because they completely neutered (with a rusty shank I might add) any kind of other game play. The only area you’ll see much difference in builds is WvW and PVP.

THIS is wtf people have been talking about with why there should have been some sort of soft trinity. But NO this is a dps game. No “heals” no positional CC. Nada. DPS only. Therefore people max out damage and look for shortcuts to get around bad dungeon design and stack.

I had a nice condition build engineer (out of ignorance) when I first started playing. Then I learned how kittenty it was so I spent my time, and my gold to slowly transfer to power + crit damage on my toon (all while keeping him looking awesome). Now they’re gonna nerf crit damage?

I’ve just about had it with ArenaNet… AGAIN.

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I play a lil bit of WvW and I’m still very angry about this.

WvW completion has more to do with your server dominance than it does your personal game play. Which isn’t fair.

ArenaNets ignorance on this is pretty telling. Their belief that forcing people into WvW to get map completion is pretty inept as well. People who don’t like PvP don’t like PvP. Period.

What the kitten does WvW have to do with map completion?

Endgame Appearance:
——————————————-

  • What: New “Heros of Old Tyria” Armor or Armor Skin Missions
  • How: Each zone in Tyria has a various piece of armor or armor skin associated with it. These pieces are broken up into fragments and spread across the zone in obscure areas (similar to how some of the explorer achievements are placed). Defeating a champion, solving puzzles, answering riddles, or completing some task will get you a fragment for a specific piece. Collecting 4 fragments allows a player to craft the skin in the mystic forge straight up. No grind. The challenges should be enough.
  • Why: Tyria isn’t Tyria anymore. It’s Lions Arch (thanks to Fractals), it’s Queensdale, it’s Frostgorge Sound and wherever the latest “Living Story” is. Everywhere else is pretty much dead. This will breath a little more life into other areas. Along with adding more progression.

Skills
———-

  • What: New weapons, more weapon skills, more racial specific skills, more class skills
  • How: Allow each class to explore other weapons/new weapons, racial specific and class options. For each weapon there can be quest to unlock it. There can be quests to unlock the specific new skills like GW1. Once you have those skills players train them through usage. Special skills like elites should have special quests for them. Spread the weapon and skill learning across Tyria.
  • Why: New player skill progression is the best type of horizontal progression. It adds utility and options to player builds. Players are always looking to tweak and improve their player or learn new tricks for them. Spreading the skill learning across Tyria opens the world back up and gives players reason to log in and travel around. The more options the more to unlock and try out.

Minis With Actual Utility
————————————————

  • What: Minis serve absolutely no purpose, even cosmetically. They’re just THERE. Give minis a utility.
  • How: Let them do things like increase cast animation speed, area of effect size, or some light protection. Make players have to feed them to keep them happy so they’ll perform better. Let them evolve after a certain level. They can function like mags in Phantasy Star Online/Universe
  • Why: Why NOT? It’s more content. Taking care of a pet can be a constant source of content with a reward/pay off. It gives people a reason to actually try to get them and maintain them. They also add a level of meta to builds.

That’s all I got for now.

A question to help direct the discussion a bit:

What are some of your favorite progression systems of all time in others? Be they horizontal, or vertical, just which ones really got you excited and were fun for you to continue to progress in?

For me, Final Fantasy Tactics is one I loved, where I was able to continue to unlock new jobs and advanced professions for my characters, as well as level up their abilities within those professions. It remains one of my all time favorite games, and one of my favorite systems of progression in any game. I’m also pretty darn fond of that Guild Wars game and skill collection.

The Secret World
———————————

I do like – That appearance is independent of gear attributes
I do like – The wealth of many passive skills and active skills that one could combine in numerous ways
I do like – The fact that anyone could use any combination of weapons in their own way
I do like – That they have a gear/build manager (though it’s buggy)
I do like – That they continue to expand player skill progression with Auxillery Weapons, Augments and in the future Aegis System

Is there a way to make money from the Gem Store without making it so obvious you’re putting the squeeze on your player base? Listen, I understand the fact that some of us are tickle pink with everything. Props to you guys. Be happy. THIS player has to vent a little here.

Since day 1 of playing GW2 I never understood why stacks of items peaked at 250. I also never understood why Legendary weapons and Ascended Weapons required way more of an item amount than you could carry in a stack. At first I thought it had to do with adding (foolishly) a “grind” to the game. After seeing the idiotic amounts of “Pile Of Bloodstone Dust” (no trade or sale) and the convenience item to increase stacks I know now I was being kind in my assessment. I paid for bank space, I paid for inventory space. Stacks too now? I would have preferred that from the beginning.

I would rather be charged a subscription fee or some up front DLC fee for content + bells and whistles than be yanked around so I have to (“oh but you don’t HAVE tooooo”) spend money in the gem store. I personally feel it’s two-bit and low brow. It gave me that nasty cheap F2P feel I got from Neverwinter before I cleaned that brothel bed sheet of a game off my HD.

Be creative, make your revenue but don’t be trashy about it. I feel like what ANet has done with Ascended Items, increasing crafting levels (like it was some accolade) and all the other grindy stuff is lacking class. You can write my words off or move it to another forum or moderate it, but come 2014 players are going to have some other AAA title options. Keep it classy. Thanks.

Ranged weapons seem to suck in this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrDmajor.7084

MrDmajor.7084

They really need to address this – and it is a huge issue. The ranged weapons do pitiful damage, and have virtually no tools to maintain range. Conversely, the melee weapons are devastating, and (afaik) every class can close the 1200 range gap in 1-2 seconds, rendering your attempt at ranged combat moot.

A large part of this is the weakness of the CC skills. Ranged CC should be long lasting, and it’s not. 1-2s of chilled, 1s immobilized, 2s cripple, and mostly on 30-60 second recharge. There’s nothing at all keeping the axe wielding warrior from strolling up and embedding his axe in your frontal lobe.

I disagree with the word “pitiful” but outside of that this guy gets it. 100%. It’s not about the damage it’s about how there is no compensation for the reduced damage. NO, ranged shouldn’t do more damage. Ranged should be able to maintain spacing, without perma kiting backwards .

It goes back to my feeling about the missteps in combat design. Between the lack of enmity, true crowd control, and negative reinforcement for having good timing GW2 is button mash melee dps centric.

ArenaNet needs to acknowledge the issue and let people know if its working as they intend or if they every plan to address.

Worst Legendary in the game by far.

Ranged weapons seem to suck in this game

Ranged weapons would make a little more sense if there was a tiny knock back effect to them (depending on weapon type) like Torchlight/Torchlight II. Mobs and people tend to just bum rush no matter what CC or KD you use almost making them mean nothing. They’re within melee range nearly as soon as the fight starts depending on their vitality.

I'm waiting for Ascended Armor

If Ascended armor is going to be anything like the Ascended Weapons I’ll pass. They should have separated cosmetics from gear stats in all honesty.

At least we won’t have to worry about horrendous color coding on the armor.

the difference between a living story event and an actual expansion is after the initial event weeks of the particular LS, no one is compelled to do it.

Right. After you have got your achievements done there’s no reason. Living Story is cool for garnish but is by no means proper nourishment.

Not to be a passenger seat driver, but if I had say in how things were deployed I would have done it different. I would have:

  • Had at least 1 additional zone with all needed components dev’ed under the original budget OR held on to one of the original zones for later release.
  • Offer the additional zone as an affordable DLC expansion
  • Use the revenue from the already funded DLC to finance the next zone.

If there isn’t enough capital to fund development you let the players know “hey we can’t open up new zones because not enough people bought into the last one yet”.
That’s more acceptable than “Naaaaah, we don’t plan on opening new zones anytime soon”.

The natives are restless… rightfully so IMO. It’s not like we’re 3 months in.

I am bored and sometime disappointed, but I’m realizing compared to other games I might be taking GW2 for granted. At the same time, the expectations aren’t the fault of the player because ArenaNet did a lot of posturing and dream selling up until this point.

My current experience in Guild Wars 2 is:

  • Do dailies… because I have to if I want laurels so I can catch up to current ascended gear creep.
  • Try to do fractals (I don’t really like GW2 dungeon or combat mechanics), because there is some sort of variety there and I have to if I want to catch up to ascended gear creep
  • Do whatever living world thingy that’s available, because at least it’s new and I could use the achievement points
  • Join the Frostgorge Sound Train for a couple passes until I get nauseous from it.
  • Try to do a little more world completion (but I have no real motivation to do it). I hate doing vistas and the small POIs. It’s tedious for me.

For ME, getting a Legendary Weapon isn’t realistic. For my class, they are flat out horrible and ad nauseam farming just isn’t fun or engaging. The same goes for Ascended Weapons, so I’m not hell bent on taking crafting from 400-500. I’ve never had more than 25+30g in my bank. WvW and PvP in a mmorpg has never been my thing. I play actual competitive game types to scratch that itch.

I like developing my character, I like trying different builds. I wish I could train more skills or weapons to my character so I could spend lots of time trying to tweak more and make adjustments. I wish I had a bit more freedom to do certain builds but I’m kinda stuck based on the gear and look I have.

I wish there was more interactive story and lore available at this point and I wish I could see more of the map and the story attached to them.

I wish combat had a better tempo that required better timing. Everything happens so haphazardly fast it’s all about button mashing and hoping for the best.

With all that said, no other game is really offering ALL this at once either, nor as close as GW2 has reached. I AM bored with GW2, but I’d rather be here at the moment. I think ArenaNet knows this about the general player base and they’re being lethargic due to that knowledge. I think the jig is up in 2014 and they better poop or get off the pot.
