Not sure what causes this problem, but I get it occasionally and the only way to fix it is to completely shut down my client and then log back in.

It’s a small application in which I ask a few basic questions and they must agree to our code of conduct. But if they can’t be bothered with filling out our application then I probably don’t want them in the guild anyway.

I feel so strongly about the text I quoted. You’d be surprised (or maybe you won’t be.) at the response I get sometimes when I tell people they need to go to a website and fill out a Q/A / Application and read rules before they join.

What? I have to go to a WEBSITE to join your guild? I have to read? I have to apply? Screw that, too much work I’m not looking for a job. <—responses I get.

Oh I’m not surprised at all. I’ve received lot’s of responses like that, but for me the trade off is worth it. The people who have filled out applications have been great and I’ve met a lot of good folks.

What I meant in my response to the other user was that I see that day in and day out – for a while in my own guild and to this day in others. It’s really unfortunate and couple that with the fact that for some reason everyone wants to be in a zerg guild, it could get bad for some.

I see. Well one thing that I’ve done is in my recruiting process, everyone must fill out an application to join. It’s a small application in which I ask a few basic questions and they must agree to our code of conduct. But if they can’t be bothered with filling out our application then I probably don’t want them in the guild anyway. Our members start off as the rank of prospect and they must Earn the right to access our guild bank they earn that right based on the amount of contribution the put forth to the guild (representing) We hold officer meetings once a week and all the leaders & officers vote on who get’s promoted and who doesn’t. Personally I run a very democratic guild. I make a big deal out of promotions and our guildies earning things. I constantly take feedback about what members are interested in and what they are currently doing. Then we will discuss it in officer meetings and decided ways to handle those things. These are just my thoughts

I made a smilar thread quite about a month ago or so – Being a guild leader my self as well I found it extremely frustrating seeing people not representing as it doesnt really contribute to the guild you are trying to hold together with as much effort as you possibly can dish out, where as even setting up guild events seems to be futile in several ways – and yeah ive tried several times, having to force people onto your guild website to have the otherwise sign up there is extremely ineffecient compared to having an ingame calendar to setup events in, and secondly, actually having people showing up at all, because there’s not really anything they can’t do on their own with just random people anyway, unless ofcourse we are talking dungeons, though these are for 5 man only, and not everyone needs the same items from those dungeons, though that’s an entirely different discussion.

Guild seems extremely pointless at this time, besides the buffs they provide – though I can’t really see why a guy who’s soloing anyway, would want to be part of a small guild, and not just one huge one which has all the upgrades, and could possibly have all the buffs going 24/7 :/

I am going through literally everything you mentioned. Trying to schedule events, trying to enforce representing and website activity. Just seems, as you said, futile in this game so far. I hope things start looking better in your guild beacuse it seems like we share a lot of the same woes.

Sorry I only read the first page of the thread (it’s a lot to read!..lol).

I am a guild leader, My guild currently has 83 members. Of those 83 members myself & my husband are the leaders and we have 5 officers. We didn’t pick our officers lightly. In order to join our guild our members MUST fill out our small application on the website.

Our website is fairly active, I utilize all the tools available through it’s interface including, calender, news(I personally write articles about the events our guild holds), and forums. I’ve also setup a Facebook page, twitter account, and Google + page for our guild. My officers have each picked one activity a month which they organize and run, we have a monthly screenshot contest in which our members have a chance to win 1 gold, 50 silver or 25 silver. One Saturday a month one of the officers has a trivia contest with prizes, on another Saturday another officer organized a jumping puzzle race with prizes(even a prize just for showing up), and on even another Saturday we do a type of scavenger hunt with prizes where we pick one area of the game and the officers hide and give clues to their locations and must be found, whoever finds and officer wins a chance to pick 3 items from the guild stash portion of our guild bank. We also just started doing an official WvW night which is coordinated with another guild in our alliance it was a great success and for the first time since launch our mumble server had 29 people logged in and what a great time we had. My guild is active, fun and friendly.

I am not against multi-guilding in fact a good portion of my members are also members of other guilds. That being said I think it’s really up to the leadership to make the guild a place members want to be an participate in. Your title comes with more than just a title it’s you taking on the responsibility of making sure that all your members have a good time and enjoy their experience in game.

I personally started my guild with the attitude that I want to make friends, and by that I don’t mean just some people who share a guild name with me, I mean making lasting friends with the people I come in contact with. So far since headstart it’s been a great experience.

I quoted my own post to maybe give you some ideas on better ways to get your guildies active & attentive.

We were coordinating with another guild, but some people weren’t in VOIP so some of our force got left behind at the outer gate. Another couple of people or another minute and we would have broken through. Didn’t help that the people in the golems had never been in a golem before xD

Yeah I had a lot of fun in WvW, It was great to get so organized and get some things done.

One-time EVENT in this game IMPLIES it will be an actual in-game PLAYABLE dynamic EVENT! Thus misleading

Because Arena Net is trying to give us a Living breath world MMO, In the real world Events happen that you won’t always be around to witness. Events like this Emulate that.

Every year they Drop the ball in New York City on New Years, I don’t get to be there to witness it. I just miss it, I don’t the get epic feeling of the crowd or get to experience any of the things they do if you are there. That’s just life.

Except it’s not really a living breathing world, that’s just the hyperbolic marketing spiel. Dynamic events aren’t one time only, because that would be stupid. I mean take gw1 event finales, they repeated over the course of the day so that everyone could do them, that didn’t make them less special than if they’d occurred only once, it just made them accessible to everyone.

This 5 second cutscene wasn’t epic, and there really is no reason it shouldn’t be shown to everyone entering the dungeon.

Also, I had my fill of ‘experiencing epic crowds’ in the clock tower.

I never said it was perfect I said it’s what they are attempting to do, and In My Opinion they are doing a pretty good job compared to what other games have done.

I started this game at head start and leveling my first character I saw tons of events reset over & over. However leveling alts and seeing the zones with not so many people in it, has made a big difference on how immersive the world feels To Me.

Why didn’t they just keep the lion statue there, but play a cutscene when you click on it, so that you and your party see the mad king break out before you start the little dungeon.
This would have prevented their servers going fubar because of everyone being logged in and would have allowed everyone to see the cutscene.
There was no point in this being one time only. Just another case of silly design.

There is a huge problem with your logic, actually being in NYC to watch the ball drop is different, different feeling, different vibe, etc. Watching a cutscene in-game to watching a cutscene on youtube has the same exact feeling. NOTHING is different. In the NYC thing there is a huge difference.

No Watching it on Youtube is not the same. It’s not the same as being there and being amped up with your friends and Guildies who are also anticipating the event, and then jumping into the portal Head first without knowing what to expect. So No my logic is not way off or wrong.

But it was a One Time only event, and if they hadn’t Hyped it and got the information out there, than people would have been complaining saying “OMG You didn’t get the info out and I missed it and can never experience it again!”

Besides it’s my guess that this was a test for other real world changing one time only events they will be adding.

Hey Anet

Portal skills from mesmer is a great skill, but, if a group use it at once, they become over powered, and yes it is a nice strategy.

My suggestion for this overpowered strategy is that, only people not in combat can use portal. That is all.

Thanks.

The whole point of the portal is to allow the mesmer & friends to end up behind you and catch you off guard. The whole point to a mesmers existence is to use it’s skills to be befuddle, confuse and generally just cause you to go “WTH Just Happened”.

In Guild Wars you gave us a costume maker where once we purchased a costume from the store all of our characters could go to the costume maker and pick up copies our purchased costumes.

I’m honestly very surprised you didn’t put this in from the get go since you knew you were building the store in from the get go (unless maybe your intent is to get people buy multiples) in which case I never will be buying the same costume twice doing it twice for 2 different characters is insanity.

I’m aware the costumes only become soulbound once you transmute them, but if I do transmute them they should not be soulbound.

Honestly you should give us our costumes with an NPC who performs in the same manner as the HOM NPC where you get the skin and can use it unlimited times on whatever character you like.

I’ll happily continue to purchase costumes you create but I will only ever purchase them once.

Listen Folks

The word Raid doesn’t always have to = Gear Progression.

Raid Doesn’t even have to = Better Loot

But having some instanced content which allows for bigger parties could be nice especially for guilds.

In Guild Wars We had 2 Elite Missions in the Game, The Deep and Urgoz’s Warren

You took a party of 16 (Double the normal party size) into those missions to complete them.

You know what the rewards were for doing them?? Most of the rewards were things you could get without even touching those missions

  • Faction (rep) for either Kurzick or Luxon depending on which mission you were doing. It’s attainable in many other ways outside the missions but having it counts toward your titles.
  • A Summoning stone (Summons an ally for 30 minutes to fight by your side it’s a consumbable) Summoning stones are available in many various forms through out GW and there are multiple ways to attain them.
  • A Passage scroll to re-enter the the dungeon. These are also purchasable from an NPC outside of the mission with Kurzick or Luxon Faction (rep), available via coin from another NPC and you can trade for them with another token item.
  • Amber Chunks or Jadeite Shards (Depending on which factions elite mission you were doing) which you turn in to earn more faction(rep) also attainable outside the elite mission
  • A chance at a rare skinned inscribable weapon. There are a ton of inscribable weapons througout Guild Wars these just had rare skins attainable only from those missions.

So as you can see, there is nothing wrong with having larger instanced content. As long as you’re not required to do it. You can call it a raid you can call it an elite mission either way it’s not meant for smaller groups and can be fun for those that enjoy attempting them. Arena Net already has lot’s of experience with making content for players that is both fun and not required so before you get upset at the word “Raid” just remember that it doesn’t have to mean what you have come to associate it with.

P.S. I myself am not into gear grind, I played WOW, RIFT & LOTRO and never played their gear grind games. I explored the content but I Never got into silly gear grind.

you guys saying you don’t want raids, I wonder if you’re aware that gw had 16 man dungeons (meaning double the normal party size) they were actually pretty fun to do sometimes. Anyway my point is that it’s not out of the realm of possibly that they would do that same thing again in GW2. Just remember if they do add something like that it won’t be required content just like the current dungeons aren’t unless you want the armor from them.

PVE/PVP Splits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrsAngelD.6971

MrsAngelD.6971

Nor have you even tried to argue with any of those points. Only MrsAngelD did. Your posts don’t seem to be contributing very much in fact.

Darmikau has argued your original post, and has made a pretty compelling argument. I for one can’t see where you have made a compelling argument to convince me that Splitting skills for PVP/PVE was the cause of your perceived PVE unbalance.

Just because a few people can Speed clear certain area’s does not mean that the game play is unbalanced. Some people can win a chess match in very little time, but we didn’t call that unbalanced and re-make chess boards.

In a game where you are fighting AI the human will always have the upper-hand and can always outsmart the AI else there is no point to playing the game. I mean why play if you can never win. But for some people their enjoyment comes from even further outsmarting the AI and they will attempt to do it even better and faster than it is normally done. There is nothing wrong with that, and where Arena Net found it to be unbalanced in PVE they sought to fix it, such as removing Ursan and changing Perma Sin.

You really need to prove how Skill splits were the cause of your perceived unbalance Because after all that is what you are saying. So far all you have done is stated that you think it was, but you have not proven it. Because honestly in GW the PVE was horrible for some classes before they split the skills and improved greatly after they split them, because they no longer had the concern of overpowering a class in PVP because they needed a change in PVE.

I understand you’re afraid of unbalance but I think you’re barking up the wrong tree in trying to blame any perceived GW unbalance on the splitting the skills for PVP/PVE.

PVE/PVP Splits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrsAngelD.6971

MrsAngelD.6971

There is no question TO ME that splits are bad and that they will lead to poor mechanics. So many people here go out of their way to differentiate PvP from PvE (and vice versa), leaving devs to either ignore it completely (that’s how GW2 started) or drive a wedge between the two. With each split, you’re going to see an increase in 1) game imbalance and 2) stupid mechanics. I only need cite World of Warcraft. I’m sorry, but the imbalance in that game is absurd and has never even been remotely addressed and the mechanics (I mean really, the cata boss fights? seriously?) are dumb. If you’re gonna split, create two different games. Otherwise, keep it one and let skill be the primary differentiator (is that a word?).

There I fixed that for you,

Splitting skills is not a bad thing, it does not creat game imbalance, in fact it makes both playstyles easier to balance because PVE & PVP are already two different games. Arena Net Split skills in GW and they still update and change both PVE & PVP skills as needed even as recent as September

Maybe you didn’t play Guild Wars, but PVP was it’s own game, and PVE was it’s own and that’s just as it should be, because mobs never react the same way a human player does. Already classes have suffered in PVE in GW2 because of nerfs that were made which were aimed at PVP play. Right now they say Mesmers are Over powered in PVP well I can tell you that simply isn’t the case in PVE. Solo Leveling a mesmer is difficult and frustrating. Splitting the skills and adjusting them for the type of game play they are aimed at would GREATLY help in the mesmer situation.

WOW probably could have saved itself a lot of headache had they adopted arena’s net’s skill split long ago, imho.

PvE is non existant in this game anyway.

You cant even farm in this game because of DR.

Wheres the PvE at? leveling to 80 through hearts and some dungeons no one does?

People play this game for the WvW not the pve, they will never beat wow’s pve, ever.

So because you can’t farm and you can’t figure out what to do with yourself at level 80 PVE is non existent? Give me a break.

Mammoth, the fastest solo fow was ~52 minutes.

I agree with MrsangelD. Content cannot stay difficult for all players forever, it’s a really bad point you’re trying to make with this whole “not nerfing pve skills will make content a joke”. The more time players spend doing the content, the more likely they’re to discover or think of ways to complete it easily and efficiently (see: gw1 speed clears).

A split was in no way responsible for what you seem to think was so bad in GW1. If skills needed to be nerfed in regards to PvE, they were. This works both ways. How would you feel if core skills were nerfed in PvP because it was being abused in PvE? I imagine tears.

Balancing classes for PvE/PvP by splitting them stops either one from being hurt by the other. It’s not the splits fault gw1 PvE ended up like it did, it’s anets lack of care to nerf what needed to be nerfed i.e. shadow form, energy surge, sliver armour, whirling etc etc etc.

Sorry which premise or conclusion that I posted are you disagreeing with?

He is disagreeing with the same thing I am. The skill split has nothing to do with what you perceive as being unbalanced the only thing it does is keep skill changes that are made for one style of play from affecting another style of play.

I disagree that gw pve was unbalanced, with the two exceptions being pema-sins & ursan which no longer exist in those forms because arena net saw the unbalance and fixed it.

Those are team builds meaning they take a full group to run. It actually proves my point, somebody took the time to see what the mobs in those areas had then looked too see which skills could counter them and do it fast. That’s not unbalance its simply using the given skills to accomplish something as efficiently as possible.

Oh, sorry.

Anyway, I don’t think FoW was designed to be completed in 7 minutes. I don’t think it was meant to be soloed. I don’t think DoA was meant to be completed in 17 minutes either. That’s not balance, that’s ridiculously easy. Might as well play farmville. If your ‘elite endgame’ areas can be cleared, on hard mode, with 99.9% success rate, in less than 20 minutes, and usually take about 30, your balance is probably a little out.

More to the point, if 5% of your available skills make their way into 95% of the builds people run, your skill balance is probably more than a little out.

yeah sorry still not seeing what you’re saying. The builds you linked too are either solo builds meant to farm one type of mob (not complete content) or team builds.
