Virtue of resolve question

I have 1001 healing, my virtue of resolve tooltip says Heal: 303 yet my ticks are 193.. what’s the 303 mean? I have 20 in Virtues trait with double resolve effect. I was under the impression it meant I would tick for 303 hp not 193.

I’m with TwoBit.. the past 7 days I’ve spent more time on the forums than in the game. It’s a sign i’ve lost interest in the actual game & rather just see the ideas & discussions of the players.

Yes there is this elitist mentality in this game that hey, we like it the way it is, ascended gear has ruined our lovely game and we want everyone to be the same. I started a thread to ask people what it is they spend all their time in this game doing then, because I have run out of things to do that appeal to me.. so far it’s mostly dailies/wvw & chatting.. Dailies takes like 20-25mins?

A culling option

Culling is in place so that the client-side (graphics card/GPU) doesn’t get overwhelmed by having to render a ton of on screen animations. This basically lowers the requirement of the computer system needed to play GW2 – which is to appeal to more players that hey, you can play our game, it looks great & you don’t have to have a fancy expensive computer.

Now that they are removing culling, it will be more upto the player’s GPU to handle the new packets of information to render on screen. Basically they are undoing what they initially did to lower requirements. They are putting in place options for those whose computers might not be able to handle this once it becomes in effect.

Basically the hardware requirements to play will go up.

The game is designed for casual players, it’s not about subscription based games, it’s about people who want something to occupy their time fully, immersion with rewards & long term goals, has nothing to do with getting your money’s worth. People are bored, they are home or w/e & want something to dive into yet feel like their time is going somewhere.. they want a sense and visual means of accomplishment. This is why legendaries are sought after.. they have no extra stats but people can show them off and feel rewarded for their endeavours. Titles, achievements all mean something because you can show them off.. otherwise you’d be better off with a console game w/ no multiplayer option. It’s about interaction, accomplishment & community.

Upgrade ur graphics card & memory or use the options they are going to institute. You won’t need a whole new computer, but you’ll probably be looking at ~$200. If you want to see everyone as best as possible it’s gonna require solid hardware. For more basic setup try the options or a decent graphics card perhaps $100 one. Don’t get them too cheap or you’ll just end up exchanging it & 1 with good video memory

Yes please sell my ascended ring for 5silver, that will only take like 500yrs to make enough to buy a legendary.
For me personally a legendary would make me play better because I would feel better so in a way it’s a huge stat boost for me & the people who strive for one. A new suit doesn’t comes with stats but when you put it on you gain confidence (+50 to confidence lol) It’s the same way. Its not all about stats… If you’re getting hit for 50k from a special attack would you rather have 500 VIT or dodge and avoid the damage? as far as I know, no class with an extra 5k HP can take a 50k attack. This is where skill > stats.

You post that skill & challenge is “fun” so… what are you expecting from the few extra stats? where is the skill if your gear is carrying you.

So whats the issue with laurels? That’s 40 laurels/month meaning every month you can buy an ascended gear & btw Fotm only gives ascended rings & back, those guys still have to do dailies for laurels like the rest of the gamers. Many FoTm players feel for the work they do the rewards aren’t enough. There are 2 sides to this… They are doing what they like, yet are pingeon-holed into having to run around doing dailies. This comes down to impatience.. if you save up laurels you will be full ascended except back piece in a few months, just as long as it would take to get a legendary if you focused hardcore on it.

Since you haven’t done FoTm or maybe tried it, idk.. it takes a while to complete, esp if you’re with new players. So maybe these players are like you & their WvW = FoTM. But they want a legendary… ur not making much gold in fotm, trust me. So you can’t buy a legendary & people standing around camping world bosses are accumulating rares for ectos & occasional exotics, possible precursors. So.. catch 22.

I’m on the forums posting so therefore I’m not playing, I gave up on legendary long ago & now im bored with the game, so I spend my time on the forums giving advice & reading stuff – none of which usually goes anywhere other than giving people insight on things I’ve learnt.

You can Q_Q all you want but in the end, you’re 1 side of the story. Maybe ask the FoTM players how they feel… So if you want a break, they deserve a break also. if you make ascended buyable, you have to make something else easier.. maybe FoTM should give honor tokens or more gold.

Let’s be realistic here.. Sunrise is on the TP for 2200g, nbdy is going to put it up for 2g, has nothing to do with how the TP works.

Ascended = laurels vs FoTM. Your gripe is, your playstyle nets you lot of gold so you’re able to buy anything of gold value. Also if ascended was gold value it wouldn’t cost 100g. Also.. so you would pay people to carry you through fotm upto lv 10? Cause if so that could be a market for ppl

This is a business opportunity in the midst to milk rich players & I like it, but alas I’m not motivated enough even if I had all the gold in the game cuz there’s nothing for me to do after I get a legendary.

All you’ve said so far is basically: Yes nobody needs anything in this game but we should all be able to have it. So… why can’t I get sunrise for 2g? You said you bought every tier of gear off the TP right? So you had 2200g for a legendary? You either grinded endlessly, abused the system or spent a lot of RL $ Neither of which differentiates you from ppl doing FoTM 10+.

So basically you’re upset because you cant buy your ascended upfront…

So.. why can’t I buy Sunrise for 2g? Ascended to you is what Legendary is for me, something not readily obtainable without time & effort.. I think you’ve been checkmated

I’ve never played a thief but my friend got one to Lv.30+ and he told me it was hard to level since you take a lot more damage than say warrior/guardian. So it’s also the class has medium armor and depending on your build will be trickier to play. Heck, I find it hard to solo group events on my 3k+ armor guardian. So if you pull that off with thief that’s even more of an accomplishment Good luck!

Oh right, i don’t have 2200g to buy a sunrise.. I thought we’re not about grinding in this game. I have like 20g.. It’s too much work to make 2200g so I think it should be 2g since everyone can make 2g easily.. this is the equality you speak of right? Well let me jump on the bandwagon with you guys!

Please explain to me how you NEED ascended gear? I just proved it mathematically which in terms of science, math is the ultimate proof in life so please elaborate on how ascended gear is breaking the game, enlighten us all with why ascended gear has ruined the game since FoTM is all there is to do and there is no way we can beat the other dungeons without ascended gear and that lone WvW player in ascended gear is just way too hard to kill… please backup your logic as I have done, otherwise it’s just more crying.

Where is my Sunrise for 2g?! 2200g is too much that will take months! Just as will ascended from laurels will take months.. this is not fair!

Around 3k armor ( as a heavy armor wearer you gain roughly 1200 armor from base defense) you have around 40% damage reduction. Toughness pushes your armor further as armor = gear defense stat + toughness.

clay, take your own advice & mature out of your egocentric mentality and stop crying over +10 to stats per piece of gear which nobody can tell the difference.

FYI: I don’t do FoTM but I’m not crying over it like all you selfish “everyone should have the same” players.

In that case, I want a sunrise for my guardian.. I think it should be at a vendor for 2g along with all the other legendaries. I feel it’s unfair that I am unwilling/incapable of spending endless time grinding for a skin when everyone should be equal.. I mean after all, we should all be equal right? Doesn’t sound fair to me.. Maybe I will adopt your philosophy.. Anet please add legendaries to a vendor in LA for 2g/each – it’s only fair!

Okay now let’s examine the difference on a whole with your example, the power/prec/cond. amulet (Coral gear)

Exotic accessories/amulets/rings allow for upgrades.
Ascended accessories/amulets/rings allow for infusion.

#1. We take the exotic item and let’s grab an Exquisite Coral Jewel off the TP for a few silver. Stats on jewel? +15 power +25 prec +15 cond

Okay so now we have an amulet with power 75, precision 105, cond. dmg 75.

#2. Okay let’s take the ascended amulet & let’s spend another 5 laurels and add +4 to precision, since it’s our highest stat & we like crit rate %

Okay so now our stats are: power 85, precisions 130, cond. dmg 85.

That’s a big difference in precision! However, let’s go ahead and work out what does this extra 25 precision do for our character’s crit chance? I personally have found ~19 precision = 1% crit (at least on a guardian, assuming all classes are same). So with this 25 precision we’ll gain roughly 1-2% extra crit chance.

Okay that’s all good but it’s been a month & we want to switch our build up a bit & we still like our power/prec/cond. dmg but we want a bit more power or bit more cond. dmg…

Let’s goto the TP and buy a different Exquisit jewel and replace it in our existing amulet: the bonuses will always come as 25 /15 /+15

No let’s try this with our ascended amulet… let’s spend another 5 laurels and get +4 desired stats.

CONCLUSION:
Ascended Amulet = +10 power / +25 precision / + 10 condition damage

How do we determine how much better off we are with +10 power/condition dmg & 1~2% crit chance? I leave the decision upto you ladies & gentlemen /bow.

Correction, lowest HP gains more aggro than highest HP… allow me to expand on Infernia’s post from wiki:
reviving a player
closest target to them
ranged attacks
top damage dealers
lowest hp
who is using a shield / has more overall armor

These are all factors which affect aggro/threat. You can help pull/peel a boss if you start to revive a player within proximity of the boss.

This is why guardians make better “tanks” than warriors with their naturally lower HP and ability to get high armor. But since there is no taunt mechanic it’s hard to reliably “tank” in GW2.

The game isn’t for a lot of people, esp if you’re fond of big named MMORPGs. The problem is that there’s not many new games & people get tired of their old game only to discover the grass isn’t greener on the other side. I will probably go back to WoW or hopefully FFXIV (A realm reborn is in beta currently) as will many other players. GW2 is setup for the casual gamer, those with limited time, or those who want a simple yet beautiful game to play. that’s just how it is. It’s not a successor to GW1, it may have most of the same professions but it’s not the same.

Wow, you guys are all hating on the few pieces of ascended gear that give a minimal, undetectable increase in stats (outside of VIT 1:10 ratio)… Can anyone determine if someone has ascended pieces over exotics? Absolutely not. You’re not gonna say “wow, if I had ascended gear I’d be just as good as that guy” You will not tell the difference of an additional 50 power unless you pay close attention, 50 vit is another story.

WvWvW is about running in packs and ganking/ambushing players.. how is that skill based? Sometimes you get a 1v1 and sometimes 1v2-3, but many times you’re doing 1v1 only to get jumped (which is why it’s a good culling is being removed).
sPvP is a serious grind to rank up, do you have any idea how many hours it will take to rank up to end up looking just like a PvE player. sPvP has minimum appeal with very little reward & many serious pvp players either quit or moved to WvWvW.

I think you guys are selfish.. you want to say “everyone should play the way they want” yet out of your own selfishness want to restrict others from doing what they want for their sense of accomplishment. Why? so you can feel better about yourself? You certainly can’t tell the difference unless you’re inside FoTM and need AR, so what’s the problem? You’re not running FoTM obviously, so why not “play for fun” in whatever manner you’re doing. Ascended gear isn’t hurting you any & ascended gear doesn’t even exist in sPvP. WvW is about the only place it could make an impact & yet if it’s 10v10 you’re not going to tell a difference on 3/10 players in ascended.

You guys are simply selfish, that’s my take on this, there is no valid excuse on your part. If the stat increase was noticeable I would agree, but it’s not, so I will disagree with this entirely.

There is an aggression/threat table in the game presently, which I’m guessing quite a few people don’t realize since a “tank” warrior doesn’t really work as well as say a guardian “tank”. Here’s how it works:
reviving a player
closest target to them
ranged attacks
top damage dealers
lowest HP
who is using a shield / has more overall armor

Building a “tank” in this game, IMO doesn’t work. Warrior has the best shield abilities, but if there is a guardian with low hp/high toughness the mobs will gravitate towards them (as I’ve seen happen to me MANY times & I don’t even use a shield). I also tested this out with my warrior friend had 30k hp, 3200 toughness + 1h/shield & we tested on a champ and it was glued to me whether I wanted it or not. I have 17k hp and 3030 toughness, no shield. Which leads me to “tank” warrior is a waste of dps.. (yes play how you want) but theoretically a warrior going tank is the top dps in the game gimping their dps for what can easily not go according to their desired plan of not holding aggro. There are no peels/taunts so you can have a “tank” setup and the monster goes for someone else & all you can do is swing your weapon, mace gets a short interrupt but that’s it. Secondly you cannot face tank all mobs, there are no heals & some mobs just hit too hard or gain frenzy which will literally tear you apart quickly.

And we’re not talking pvp anyway. Many players go for berzerker gear in PvE aka glass cannon, etc. You can evade (once again evasion) many mechanics if you understand them moreso if you’re a ranged character. Meleeing everything is looked upon as risky, kiting is the preferred method of takedown.

Actually you can heal from near death in GW2, if you’re setup for it. I main a guardian and you do have serious burst heal potential + regen/protection. I can pop instant 3k+ heal & 3 sec later another 3k+ heal & im not even full support (6k+ in 3sec, not counting regen ticks). I’ve had a warrior say on a CoF run “wow i’m usually dead by now, how am I gaining HP?” My friend and I both thought it was funny. But once again, it’s from someone not going all out dps & understanding their class’s mechanics.

I just personally would like to use my shield more & it’s very unattractive other than to revive players with knockback support.

Last note: gw2 is psuedo teamwork aswell, it’s setup that it works because there are no target skills, buffs are either radius or individual & not limited to party members. Most players do not develop situational awareness to see what’s going on around them during an intense encounter as your character is setup to be self sufficient. As long as you’re dps with some survival it’s all good, that’s my basic summary.

You do know that thieves currently have a lot of access to blind & evasion moves? Has nothing to do with magic stats. In it’s current state everything is about kiting, both PvE & PvP. It’s either kite or melee zerg. Just like most players think cleric gear is garbage, yet it’s in the game. 95% of the community is dps based it’s only the utility of the class & the fact you have to bring a self heal that gets things done. It’s those rebel minority who strive to go more support that will pickup cleric gear or go more support.

I’m gonna make a bold suggestion here, just to see what ppl think… Yes trinity has been brought up before but I haven’t see it suggested in this fashion, pretty much just using the game’s current setup but with more emphasis!

Further define the roles – add trinity but possible for all classes. Every class should have a more definitive layout for tank/heal/dps.

Currently every class can become tanky/supporty/dps – correct? It’s all a matter of stats & traits (toughness, +healing/boon duration, zerker gear, etc). Why not push it into a more defined role. We won’t be stuck with LF tank or LF healer for hours, but instead, just as things are now, all classes can fit the role. Make using a shield more attractive, I’d personally give thief the ability to evasion tank. probably Mesmer/Ele/Necro would be more CC/aoe dmg oriented setup – light armor class.

Of course in pvp such things would have to have reduced effectiveness for obvious reasons, but in PvE would be fun & probably allow for better strategies in content battles other than zerg-fests.

just a suggestion Wonder how many “boo’s!” i’ll get.. we’ll see!

It does.. & once you understand (I’m not going to explain, some things are better learnt through time/experience) you can use it to accomplish far more than you could normally. The only problem with downed state is in PvP, in PvE it’s a wonderful feature. You’re either undergeared/over extendending/not playing your class optimally. Sorry but this is definitely a player-side issue, not a design issue. Most games, once you’re HP hits 0, you’re dead K.O. Sorry to say but can’t justify this.

Caucasus…Caucasians? Casuals?.. Anyway this game is already HIGHLY casual as is, leave fractals of the mist (fotm) for the few who wish to have something long-term in the game to do. You can obtain everything except the back-piece from laurels (as far as I know). Also unless you’re doing FoTM exotic gear works more than sufficient, ascended only really helps for AR, otherwise the stat boost is not noticeable unless you’re talking VIT since it’s 1:10 ratio.

There’s Waypoints & if you’re just traveling, using swiftness/travel skills doesn’t hurt. Increasing default speed would also imbalance PvP & would take away from the game overall. Personally I just want combat reduced speed to be removed as I don’t see the logic.

Basically you’re saying there is no endgame, which is the point where I am at now – lack of goals to achieve. Basically you’re going to get the same response & realization I’m slowly getting to – time to play another game or play more casually like say 1-1.5 hrs max/day. Log on, get your dailies done & “housekeeping” your characters, chat to ppl, etc.

Its a great game for casual gamers – which I’ve been complimented on stating, so yeah, that’s what i’ll stick with Also I agree the game is really beautiful & has a lot of nice features. It’s simple enough to grasp rather quickly which is the 10 skills we get to use at a given time. More customization would be great but that’s a short term fix, mechanics/endgame is what will sustain playability.

An idea for dungeons

I think we should have separate ways of making gold & by combining farming with dungeons starts to lose distinction. Dungeons should carry their own allure & uniqueness away from the rest of the game. 25% chance is also really high for mobs you’re killing in fairly large amount. Also for classes not dealing lot of aoe damage (I play guardian) that limits my drop chance if my warrior gets there 1st.

I find NPC chat to be so hilarious in this game & I enjoy it, it does get old after a while, but it’s a really nice touch, IMO

OKay here is the belittling then: No, crafting is a joke in this game. I would rather there be a master crafting NPC you bring the materials to if you want it crafted then. Which I guess is the mystic forge in this case. If you recall in GW1 the master crafter had to be unlocked by reaching it in a dungeon to obtain Fissure of Woe armor.. now u simply walk upto the mystic forge/browse the TP for items.

“the crafting guy people go to” is the prestige reputation you obtain when crafting means something. I’m not putting words into anyone’s mouth, I’m just pointing out crafting in GW2 is a joke.

Raf stated it took lot of time/effort to level crafting & therefore should have a reward (in this case precursors) for this accomplishment. He didn’t say anything else, it’s a short 2 line statement. I’m addressing the crafting.

  1. Google = friend for ANYTHING, prob best site in the world.
  2. Most crafts will require roughly ~4g to get from 1-400. At Lv.23 I never had 4g so I don’t see this happening, unless you have a lot of materials accumulated & being Lv.23, not possible, esp. higher end materials.
  3. Level up your character – Gather along the way (mini map displays nodes)
    Pro tip: upgrade your gathering supplies (axe/sickle/pick) asap! Copper>Iron>Steel>Darksteel>Orichalcium are the grades for each, as you get into higher zones Copper won’t allow you to get materials they will say “ruined” so grab the higher level ones as soon as you have the silver for it (don’t go broke buying tons, buy 1 stack @ a time).
  4. Decide between selling materials/keeping materials.
    Pro tip: when you open your bags (shortcut key “I”) the top-right gear symbol has option to deposit all collectibles – this will automatically store all the crafting materials in storage (upto 250) if you notice items not being deposited, means you have 250 already.

Crafting in this game is very easy. When I first started and saw people in my guild 400 in a craft I was like, wow, maybe these guys can make stuff for me… It takes a few gold to PL (power level) any & every craft to 400. Being 400 in a craft isn’t as prestigious as you would expect. you cant be “that crafting guy people go to” because everyone can have 400 crafting, easily.

Emotes is top of my list for RP… the lack of emotes is horrific, not to mention if you target a player the current emotes don’t state you have that person targeted, it’s just a general “you wave.”

Emotes like /cry don’t end unless you make it.
Sitting – I agree
AFK tag – I’d stick this in with emotes also as /away or /afk or even being idle for a set period of time should place you into an AFK mode (even if just on your contact list)
Town clothes & more skins in general.

Personally not a fan of name changing as I find this is about all you have for an identity in-game, you should be able to change sex/race/redo appearance, name change i’m not a proponent on.

Or you could swap into MF gear before you loot boss/open chest & still skip the mobs = faster run & more rewards over time until u cap DR.

Additional MF would be more beneficial if you farmed through the dungeon hoping to obtain more items from the many mobs (mostly trash) you will be clearing. MF works best when dealing with large number of kills.

The debate of grinding is just kitten & needs to stop. For those saying “1.5-2hrs/day” srsly? You’re expecting to be fully geared in a couple days with 1.5-2hrs/day.. That would make everyone geared within a week and then what? Sit around in LA (lion’s arch), twiddling our thumbs. If you expect anything to occupy people it needs to have longevityGuild Wars 2 is SUPER casual friendly & I will stand by that for the current status of the game.

Guild Missions: – Screws over small guilds as things cost 50k influence & days to unlock. This is just a fact, smaller guilds are screwed over with the design.

Why are you listing gold for every piece of item to be obtained? 98% of all gear can be karma/dungeon farmed.

If you have the real $$ for it you could simply buy gems, convert them for gold, buy in-game boosts, etc. (another fact why casual friendly).

This topic needs no further discussion, it’s just now a matter of:
I want it easy & fast like a drive-thru versus I need something to occupy my time

I don’t see the issue with fotm as ascended gear is limited and you can buy pretty much all except back piece from the laurel vendor. It also takes all ascended pieces to see the slight stat increase, 1-2 pieces aren’t that strong.

The issue im having is longevity… unless you’re going for legendary/fotm bragging rights/fotm skins everything is rather short & takes about 1-2 months and you’re done unless you happen to like every skin in the game. Obviously some have been playing since launch so this isn’t the case for all, but I’ve watched my guild members lose interest, myself & my friend are losing interest. Guild missions screw smaller guilds (we have roughly 8-15 active on a busy night) Also guild missions aren’t very attractive. Perhaps it’s getting to that point where I will move on shortly. It’s been a good month the game has provided me with but when you start making alts after a month, cuz you have nothing to do on your main, that says a lot.

No real grinding in this game unless you want a few ascended pieces/legendary. It’s actually a really short game if you’re not into that stuff, it’s been little over 1 month and I’ve kinda run out of goals to achieve :-\ Needs more long term pull, IMO.

Killstreak is visual in sPvP across the screen.. wvwvw this wouldnt work very well.. so it’s kinda already in place. Some people have weird names so would be hard for it to be pronounced.

Don’t you think dungeons have enough lore as is and where would these DE (dynamic Events) be placed? all zones are pretty packed with DEs as is. The current dungeons are all super short & quickly become oudated. Some of us just sit around LA with nothing to do cause we’ve alrdy gotten the tokens we want from the 5-20min dungeons they have currently.

Okay so I gave it some more thought how about scalable dungeon 5-10 player; 10 players = optimal loot possible but more challenging. This way still possible to complete just not optimal.

Game needs a lot of mechanics changes overall, IMO.

They should do a “notes” system instead of just nickname for guild members/friends list in addition to allowing you to see class/lvl of friend list (for those following/not mutually added).

sPvP needs a lot more than just dyes, needs an overhaul.

Or they could remove de-aggro for dungeons & problem would be solved. if mobs followed you throughout the entire dungeon, skipping would not be possible.

Heck, add that slot for anything we want, weapon/consumable, etc. I made a post about this myself, maybe like 3 action bars that can be placed by the player on their screen (horizontally/vertically) + keybindable so we can be more diversified instead of opening character panel/bag to use/equip items, it’s very prehistoric in this day & age.
