I have a new ssd that is large enough to hold my os and games, but I also have a new 90 gig that I had a warranty for an older one that went bad.

My question is, will I have any positive or negative outcomes if I use one ssd for games and one for the os. The transfer speeds are the same on both but not the same drive so raid is out of the question. Or should I just use the one large ssd for all os and apps and games?

well My cpu is definitly not bottlenecking, I get about 30% usage on the cpu and 75% usage on the gpu. I did change my power plan from balenced to high performance profile. There is 2 diffrences I see between the 2. One is that its minimum cpu % is 5 on balenced and 100% on high performance. The other is something to do with the pci express. I have to look up more on it as I dont know what it means. I did unpark my cpu and dont know if there is a diffrence in GW2 yet, although on many forums many ppl claim they see a huge improvement on battlefield 3.

That being said I dont know if the performance mode on the power management is good for everyone as it pretty much take speed stepping out of the equation, and keeps the cpu at full throttle all the time. Ok for most desktops, bad for laptops. Ill check back after I have done some playing around later tonite.

I checked my resource manager and noticed that when my GW2 is running that my gpu gets to around 70%. my cpu overall doesnt get passed 30 but windows 7 parks some threads to save energy. there is a way to unpark the cpu and some forums say it makes a big diffrence in games. The only problem is that it has to be done in the registry.

I dont advise anyone that does not know about their computer extensivly to mess with the registry, but Im going to try unparking the cpu and see if it makes a diffrence.

Nashiem.8932

One thing many ppl overlook is shadows. They max the shadows and dont know why they have low fps. Shadowing is very graphic intensive even on low levels and with high view distance. Try running the game with low shadow setting, if you still have problems turn it off.

I have a high end system and only run my shadows on medium. All other games I can max everything but GW2 is a very stressing game for any system. It will take some time to make it run correct on all these diffrent system builds. I have herd of older computers running better than even my setup. I like graphics as much as the next guy, but I would rather have no shadows and everthing look great, than poor performance.

GW2 needs option to select which GPU to use

Nashiem.8932

An option to select graphics card needs to be added. My game has been running on max settings since launch, but today it dropped to a crawl at 7fps. My GPU usage was at a whopping 7% usage. After checking different meters, GW2 for some odd reason has picked the integrated HD4000 over my GTX 670. I use my laptop every now and then, which has an ATI card in it. So I assume that was why my graphics options reset, but I don’t understand why the game picks the HD4000 over GTX 670. Please fix this or tell me how to get GW2 to use my GTX 670 again instead of the HD4000.

System:
i7-3770k
16GB DDR3 1866Mhz
Gigabyte GTX 670
2x 128GB Samsung 830 in Raid 0
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4

you need to disable it from the bios. it should be in the onboard device configuration tab.

As the title says. I browsed the other Windows 8 threads and they were all lag and input issues (I don’t have those).

Specifically, GW2 can not open a desktop based browser when running Windows 8. If you type /wiki Something, nothing happens. If you try and buy gems, nothing happens.

I would like to buy Gems with Pay Pal direct from ANET but I can’t! Oh well… Guess I’ll give them more money with they fix it so I can give them more money!

Strange, you already tried this possibly but, alt + tabing out and back when this happens doesn’t change your fps back to normal ? Maybe it’s your gpu downclocking, try ocing it with just 10mhz.

Btw if you’re not already having this, set to Power management mode in Nvcpl to prefer Max perf.

its overclocked 100mhz already, im not sure what the problem is. And it is set to max performance thank you for the response.

I dont know what this blue screen means, I used to get memory dumps on a blue screen when I was running raid on an x79 platform. Now I have a single ssd and no problems.

I also noticed that when I had internet explorer opened at the same time I was running GW2 it would crash. Maybe some type of anti-bot or something.

Nashiem.8932

I have noticed this problem many times, I have tried GW2 on various motherboards. I was running 2 gtx 690’s in quad-sli, and 3 way-sli. I also ran just one card instead of both 690’s. I have tried 3 diffrent motherboards, asus rampage 3 extreme, x79 sabertooth, and rampage 4 extreme. I noticed that the game runs best with one card and sli enabled on that card, with nvidias latest beta drivers. But something that has always plagued me was after being in a downed state or after res or via waypoint. The fps drops in certain areas to 30 to 45 fps. Normally I get 55 to 60+ constant. I dont know why this is hapeneing, but since I went through so many scenerios and it still happens doesnt sound right. All hardware has been stress tested and all drivers are latest.

This has been an issue since I started playing but it wasnt as noticable in quad-sli. But with a single gpu it really shows off.

Do nodes spawn time increase the more you collect?

Believe me I am sure, and they disapear because they are changing to the way they look when they are mined. I had one disapear and I walked over to it after it disapeared and it was already mined. I also mined things last night that have not come back. For me they spawn about every 24 hours. I farm so much that they dont spawn like they do for others. I feel this is along the lines of discrimination. If its going to take 24 hours for my nodes to appear it should for everyone, and they dont I hear from guildies 45 min. 6 hours. It is not fair that because I put hard work to farm that I should pay for it by having a slower drop rate.

Nashiem.8932

I have noticed that the more you collect the less the nodes spawn. I even had times where I would gather mythrill in one spot and see it disapear from the map in another. In a way its like anet is controlling how much someone can gather, like a cap. This is bs in my opinion, because they are controlling the market. as long as its me and not a program collecting the materials there should be no cap and should be equal to everyone.

One of the things I like about games is collecting and its not right that anet controlls the bltc. It should be a true economic system without anyone person or program controlling the prices weather high or low or the amount of items that is sold or bought. That is what economy is, not a puppet with its master controlling what they feel prices should be. I know there are bots out there, but no matter what you do it will never completely fix the problem, but to make the game experience for me diffrent than the next person simply because Im willing to spend hours searching for nodes is not fair and may hinder my decision to keep playing this game.

I have been gathering a lot of ore latley, last night I did a quick run and gathered 150 mythril ore. Today I sign on and there are no mythril nodes in cursed shore. I like to gather that is one of the things I rteally enjoy that keeps me going in these types of games. I never cheated, and some guildies said that anet may assume I am botting. I dont know if this is a bug or if anet slowed my spawn time down for collecting too much, but if this did happen its not right. I do not bot and enjoy collecting, I should have the same experience as everyone else, even if I do it more often than others. Should someon that does dungeons all the time have a lesser drop rate on rares than me because I only do a few a week?

Should I feel bad about spending real mony on gems

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nashiem.8932

I have read all the comments and here is what I feel. There is an unfair advantage to certain people that buy gems and then trade it in for gold because for one they can get their crafting skills maxed in no time at all. I personally would never use the gem store to help me in the game, but for fun items, or armor/ weapon skins, thats a diffrent story. They do not add anything to the game but looks, and I would consider spending real money for that. But the idea of spending money to aquire what I could from grinding is an easy way out.

In a similar way guild wars 1 eventyally added pvp skill packs. at first I did not particapate in this, but after I started getting more involved in pvp it became a must have. Only bad part, it unlocked all the pve skills as well.

In the end I will always feel bad about putting money into a game where I could get the same result from grinding hard, But for events like halloween I dont have time to make enough gold to aquire enough gems to produce the results I would like to have, stricktly for fun of course, not to help my toon. Skins and fun things you can only get from the gem shop. But just the idea of spending real money for something that I could get from hard work is what makes me feel bad. I guess if you could not by gems with gold than it would be diffrent. But I appreciate anet for adding that feature as it gives the player an option to choose.

actually the name Shujaa is a Sanskrit translation that refers to meeting of the 2 opposing Gods, or as we know them God and the Devil. In this meeting it was said that the Devil had overcome good with good actions and defeated God by using his own words against him. Since then peoplke did not know what to make of this, but it is now concidered a dead language for this reason. Sanskrit is over 10 thousand years old, and is believed to be the first language of the universe.

I have always had issues with this idea. Although guild wars 2’s gem system does not really add anything of added influence to your account with the exception of bank stash and 1 bag slot, and some buffs. I personally would not use the gem store for that reason, unless I traded gold for the gems. But what about black chest keys. They dont give you anything you coulkd use to help your account but add some fun things, esecially with the 22nd in a few days.

I am stuck, I want to get some cool things from the halloween event, but I dont want to feel bad about spending money on gems because I dont want to feel like I am having an unfair advantage to the game. I never really liked the games where you could spend money for gems, but I understand why its there. But should I be a part of it?

Legendary is too many hoops, just like bosses that are 1000000k hp = the new hard.

Yes Similar was in GW, but the road to these bosses was fun. Never hear anyone saying in GW that the dungeons were boring en-route to boss.

Alas we have a different fanbase now. Peeps with TDKR posters allover their walls, ah well, I got 5 years out of GW. Thats good!

A lot of people are complaining but what a lot of peopole dont know is Guild Wars. I played the first one for 5 years as well and one thing I know is content is always added. Rest assured there will be new free content to keep you entertained over the nex few months, and Im sure some kind of expansion is in the works for a whole new area maybe not to release next year but it will release at some point.

The first guild wars had endless content that was alway being added to keep the fun alive, im sure GW2 will be no diffrent.

First for some reason my ssd’s that are 2 years old were having some trouble with the x79 platform. I purchased a corsair nuetron gtx and have it alone instead of raid0.

The other thing is I installed nvidia driver 306.02, I remember having more stable gameplay with those than the newer whql drivers. So far game is running perfect 60 fps constant and no crashes, (fingers are crossed).

I also made changes in my Nvidia control panal like it says in the dev topic on frame rate issues, I changed the option for monitors to performance for one monitor, and I changed the option for power management to max performance. Any one of those 3 could have helped, my guess is all 3 had some hand in the matter.

The tech guy at nvidia specifically told me that the motherboard bios ties directly to sli, I dont know if he was just talking to try to make me feel like he may have given me an answere, or if he does not know what he is talking about. Basically for me, its trial and error. Ive been building pc’s for 12 years now, and never had this many problems happen. The quad-sli, the raid0 issues. I herd it may be an x79 issue with asus boards. But Ive been using asus since I started building systems and never had anything like. I have only been experimenting with sli in general for less than a year now so not only am I new to it, I have to take in everything I read and decifer statements from reality.

let me ask how do you feel about evga motherboards, specifically the x79 classified. Toms hardwars guide compared it to asus rampage 4 extreme and lost by a small amount, but I have read some tasteless reviews about it.
this is true and untrue at the same time, the bios must have a sli cert to allow SLI, the cards you have would work(1 at a time) in boards without, but you couldnt use both and get quadsli, You can inject an sli cert into a bios using mod tools but, its hit and miss if it will work….(i have done it, sli worked better on older amd chipsets then on nvidia chipsets funny enough)

Asus have an uneven rep, their bios support dept sucks, i have dealt with them many times over the years, they are worse then msi, and thats pretty bad….

Asus also has a bad rep of cleaning up bugged boards, post testing them and sending them back still borked….(happened to me os many times i now fully kill asus boards i rma just to avoid getting the same borked board back)

the best board maker I have dealt with in recent years has to be gigabyte, I found a bios bug, their bios guys contacted me, worked with me to fix it, even buying the exect hardware I was running(was a problem with a common sata add-in chipset) they got a test bios out, sent it to me, it worked, they then tweaked it 5 or so times and had me update and test each time, they managed to get the perf up by almost 50% and fixed the inability to boot with the card in the system.

worst has to be MSI in my exp, getting them to fix very basic bios issues is like trying to convenes the risen in orr to not attack you as you run around……

biostar gets an honourable mention because they have worked with me and others on bios issues and have even hooked me up a couple times with an extra bios chip for shipping cost….

that said, i really love my sabertooth 990fx, I just wish asus would have paid for the onboard audio to have the features my 790x board from gigabyte had……considering this board was like 80bucks more expensive at retail then the gigabyte, you would think it would have dts encoding and the like……oh well, i got a killer deal on my xonar

Ah oki, 3500$ should work for WvW, obviously not everyone is committed to such a investment to play GW2 WvW, if they have no problems with other PC games. My friend can play WoW/LoL/WoT/BF3 just fine (med/low settings), so ofc he won’t upgrade for GW2 if he isn’t already sold.
The other problem is that even if he wants to upgrade, most other PC games are GPU bound, so while he may boost BF3 performance with a GPU upgrade, it wont do any good for GW2.

Its actually a little sad, we really tried to find a cheap way for him to upgrade for GW2 and the lowest “good” we could come with was around the 400$ mark. The problem is he compares GW2 to WoW/BF3 so ofc its hard to convince him to upgrade, if those games run “fine”.

asus x79 sabertooth, I tried actually using the one card on a fresh install, then addin the other card after installing the drivers. Windows detects the 2nd card and nvidia begins installing various drivers for the second card, but it never finishes the insatll. I noticed the best setup was in the controll panel dedicating gpu2a to physx which puts the other 3 gpus in 3-way-sli. I get the best performance from that. Likewise, a hard lockup can be achieved by sending a PCI call to change a device state into the state it’s already at (eg GPU D0 -> D0). What this does is overwrite the current memory space with what the driver defines as ‘fresh’, and will have extremely unpredictable effects (usually driver problems).[/quote]

Please dont leave the game Im sure things will get better, anyone that played GW1 knows anet has a bag of tricks that always makes you come back for more.

Everyone talk about wow but that game is not graphic intensive, even when it first came out, and its been 8 years now. Stay with GW2 it will get fixed trust me.

nvidia and evga people you talked to are most likely marketing people, the same ones who told me and H that there where no problems with the 8800gt’s when they came out, despite it later coming out that there was a bad batch and that nv knew about it…

that said, it may be better for you, but, your still cpu limited as are all gw2 players…..your not getting the most out of your system even with quadsli.

microstutter is really an issue that has a few causes, to much for me to type here but, you can get it on any multi gpu setup be it on a single card or multi cards….

long story short glad your enjoying it, but every time i have messed with it, the laws of diminishing returns kicked in and the gain from 2 cards to 3 where less then 1 to 2 cards…..and the move from 3-4 gpu’s was less then 2 to 3…..

but hey, its a great boost to you kitten to have quadsli….hope you have an extreme edition chip as well….even quad sli cant help if you dont got the best kitten cpu to do with it :P

No reason to get the 3960, got the 3930k overclocked to 4.4, that should eliminate any bottleneck. I could clock higher but dont want to, I have great temps and great bandwidth on memory. According to sisoftware sandra in quad-sli I am ranked 4 for memory bandwidth.

I really dont think that would be the best idea. Even if its not in the eula (wich it probably is and we should know cause were supposed to read and accept before we buy or download the game) you cant sue anet for what crimes others are commiting. lol but its good to stir the pot every once and a while.

quad-sli is 2 cards with 4 gpu’s a lot of people keep saying its the same as 4-way sli, but it is not. one example is that you will not have micro stuttering on one card with 2 gpus. so if you have 4 individual cards then there is a higher chance of this than 4 gpu’s on 2 cards.

wrong, you can and do see microstutter with dual gpu cards, I have seen it myself, and fixed it in some cases, others we couldnt get rid of it.

dual gpu cards on both sides(amd/nvidia) have this issue just like using 2-3-4 cards can have the issue, the only reason it tends to happen less and be less noticeable is the motherboard chipset isnt quite as big a factor…

long story short quad sli/quadfire are still hit and miss, be it dual-dual gpu cards or quad-single gpu cards……tho, from my exp, quadfire tends to be less problematic then quadsli no matter if it dual-dual cards or quad-single cards, not that its ever problem free just tends to not has as many headakes…i wouldnt go quad personally….just not worth it…..

The microstuttering was something I read, but if you have any proof that 4-waysli is diffrent than quad-sli I would like it because than Id like to call nvidia and evga and ask why I was told this on 2 seperate occasions. And I see a big differance on GW2 with just the one 690 and 2 690’s even in 3-way sli it has better fps, but I do agree for the money it may be better for some to wait until the game has been out a little longer and they can make performance enhancements with the drivers. But 2 690’s looks kick kitten
