GW2 and Quad-sli problems.

err, no, 2 690’s is still 4 way sli. it still uses the same sli modes, the 2 690 cores appear to windows via a pci-16x to 8x bridge chip. so they appear as seperate video cards.

but multigpu cards often have more sli issues than 4 individual cards >.>

well look this is something I have been saying for a while now and it appears that a llot of people are mistaken. I spoke to Nvidia and evga and both told me that 4-way sli and quad sli is diffrent. They specified just because a motherboard supports 4 way sli does not mean it will support quad sli.{meaning 2 dual gpu cards}. I did not ask what that reason was because it did not pertain to me, but the graphics cards work dirrectly with the bios{as explained by nvidia tech support} so if the motherboard is not designed to accept 2 dual gpu cards it may not function properly. They even sent me an e-mail with quad certified motherboards. So despite what people may think, and how it may seem obvious 4cards or 2 dual cards are the same end result, they are not.

in time there will be arena net updates and nvidia driver updates that will increase performance with the 690 and GW2, also make it work with sli, which I have not seen stated on any driver updates to this point.

hehe Quad sli, such a beast. But yea SLI has always been “iffy” and I am still never surprised when a game doesn’t work %100 using it

quad-sli is 2 cards with 4 gpu’s a lot of people keep saying its the same as 4-way sli, but it is not. one example is that you will not have micro stuttering on one card with 2 gpus. so if you have 4 individual cards then there is a higher chance of this than 4 gpu’s on 2 cards.

I was able to see that arenanet were associated with some of the files. why would this be?

Sorry, but how were you able to do this? Checkdsk won’t see any individual files inside the GW2 dat file, and orphaned files are displayed via index location rather than distinct file names.

Btw, that repair and chkdsk both cement it in my mind that the SSD is developing problems.

on the check disk it displays the files that are currupt or being orphaned. ALthough it is verry fast there is a few seconds where you can view some of the files before they said in the sentence guild wars 2 and last night i noticed it said arena net then when I tried to run the game it needed to repair itself. I personally dont care if you believe me I am just stating fact.

Can somebody please help me with this. I have not been able to play this game with crossfire enabled due to huge fps drops when moving the camera. This applies anywhere in game, not just populated cities. Turning off crossfire solves the problem but I want to actually use my second card. I have 2xHD6850’s and the latest Application Profiles.

I have read that cross-fire causes huge micr stutering infact there was an article I read that showed a 70% increse in performance from using just one card as opposed to crossfire.

I currently have a x79 sabertooth with 2 690s installed. When I run quad-sli, and I play the asuran race there is some artifacts and the game runs slightly slow. When I make physx dedicated to 2b on the controll panel, I then have 2 gpu;s running and one dedicated to physx and one not doing anything. This eliminates the artifacts. I also ran the game with physx dedicated to 2a which puts the system into 3way-sli. I also dont have a problem and the game performance increases. I have to assume the quad-sli is causing micr-stutering. I dont see that GW2 is sli certified yet, By Anet or Nvidia, is there anything I could do to help this issue. The game runs fine in 3-way sli with the one gpu dedicated to physx so Its not a big problem, but a problem none the less.

User mode software cannot cause a system crash (unless its compiled with an unsafe compiler using very badly written ASM)

Go back to the basics and check everything starting with the bios configuration(Voltages and dram timings), Drivers(Sata, Video, Sound and Ethernet/Wlan)

The memory is in x.m.p. mode, and I have run benchmarks and stress tests on the system with no failure, any other ways to check?

have you run any actual hdd checks? it could be that the number of writes has been reached on those drives 2 years is a long time so it’s certainly possible with the older gen sold state drives.

I flash the drives at least every 6 months using parted magic. could this still be a problem?

But the same time I installed GW2 I updated my hardware. Sometimes when windows starts a disk check and will find errors. The messages are fast but I notice files asociated with GW2. Im going to install GW2 on /c drive instead of program files and see if this helps. If anyone else has had the same types of issues please let me know. All hardware has been benchmarked and stress tested and is ok.

Quad-SLI With 2 690's

It is really all the same. It’s 4 GPUs interconnected by a PCI-E bus. The GTX 690 have two GPUs each, connected by a PCI-E 3.0 bridge chip.

One 690 is usually around 95-100% of the performance of two 680s in SLI.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5805/nvidia-geforce-gtx-690-review-ultra-expensive-ultra-rare-ultra-fast/19
The GTX 690 doesn’t quite reach the performance of the GTX 680 SLI, but it’s very, very close. Based on our benchmarks we’re looking at 95% of the performance of the GTX 680 SLI at 5760×1200 and 96% of the performance at 2560×1600. These are measurable differences, but only just. For all practical purposes the GTX 690 is a single card GTX 680 SLI – a single card GTX 680 SLI that consumes noticeably less power under load and is at least marginally quieter too.

All I know is that I spoke to nvidia directly regarding this and they told me, to properly run quad-sli, the motherboard has to be quad sli certified. I have seen posts that say if a motherboard is 4-way capable that quad will work, but if this is the case why do some boards state 4-way and quad sli in the description?

Bottlenecking for us is not the issue, nvidia has to update some drivers that will increase performance with GW2, like they do with every game. In a few months all the kinks should be worked out. There will be updates to GW2 im not even sure if the game supports sli right now which is why so many people with sli have the issue where the game runs the same in or out of sli. And with quad sli it is a new ball of wax, people are saying quad is the same as 4-way, but its not. although it may appear to be the same. If you have 4 cards, with 4 GPU’s. the motherboard will not see 2 cards with 4 gpu’s the same.

As far as any PC on earth is concerned it functions identical to quad SLI.

Even one 690GTX core is overkill for this game, the problem is that this game is ridiculously CPU intensive. Even areas that don’t necessarily have tons of players can be very CPU intensive so you will hit tons of bottlenecks. I have a i5-2500k @ 4.8GHZ myself and I experience frequent frame-rate drops on my 690GTX.

I have checked the cpu usage and it is only running about 13% usage while GW2 is running. I dont know why there are framerate issues in quad-sli but im sure soon we will see and update from nvidia where gw2 will have mote performance in sli systems. Also if you look at past updates there are notes on 4 way sli and quad sli. If they were theoretically the same, why would they have seperate related updates to the drivers?

the difference is 690’s use SLI micro bridges…

There is a big diffrence in compatability, some motherboards are only 4way-sli capable while others are quad sli-certified when the asus rampage 5 extreme comes out you will see the specs will say quad-sli certified. unlike the rampage 4 extreme which is only 4 waylsli capable. My MB the sabertooth is quad certified. But if you do the research you will find out there is a diffrence.

not to mention the performance boost you get with one 690 over 2 680’s. just do the benchmarks or search for them. You will see the one 690 is 60% better than 2 680’s.

quad sli and 4 way sli are 2 completely diffrent things,if you would like to check call nvidia and speak with them. They will tell you. although to have someone tell you in detail what the diffrences are, you will have to talk to one of the better tech guys there.

also I have not seen much cpu usage while palying the game, not anything abnormal. could be a north bridge bottleneck issue but I doubt it, with the x79 motherboards.

Framerate issues, and there are some screen images flickering in the character creation screen. Sometimes I only get 40 fps. I know GW2 is a little graphic intensive, but 2 690’s come on quad-sli. It should run any game out.

Alviss.1256 obviously you are missing the point. Its not about the fact that I want to know all the spooilers in the game, in fact its the opposite I dont like spoilers. But when content is added to the game or, is already in the game but not explained well, it makes it hard to find out about how to do certain things.

This is what manuals are for. If someone wants to know how to do a certain in game special quest or dungeon ect. you can ask the map you are in, but the responses are very broad and most of the time leave you wondering what to do. Maybe the finding charr starting area wasnt a good point, because the gates are readily in game, but that does not negate my point. If it had been pointed out that Lions arch was the center hub to all the starting areas it would have been a lot easier.

I did not get any mail regarding this, and I read all my mail, and play the game at a good pace. I dont try to rush through it. But when some new content comes out it would be nice to know about it when it comes out and not a day after it is over.

This is a good question. If someone does not play all the time they would miss a lot of new content and not know about it. One way could be a e-mail to all active accounts with links to the appropriate place where the new content is discussed in detail. I took a look around and still have not come across the article on the mystic chest. there is a description on guild wars 2 wiki, but i did not find anything that states when it started. If there was an e-mail sent out saying new content with links, detailing the new content, I would have definitly known about the mystic chest. I dont see this being a huge issue, but at the same time maybe I am just not looking in the right places, so if anyone can point me in those places please do, as I have always had these types of issues. I feel like I have to search through tons of useless articles to find the answeres to questions that should be readily avalible.

I have to say that this is one area that I have seen an issue with on most mmo’s. New content is created or added and sometimes certain people do not know about it. This was the case in GW1 where sorrows furnace was added, but because I did not start playing the game until 8 m onths after its release I did not know about it for a long time. In GW2 I just saw a mystic chest ending today. I didnt even know about this until I happened to come across it online, and now its too late for me to even take part in it.

There has to be some way to explain certain in game changes or add-ons that some people have no knowledge of. Personally I dont play GW every single day and if something is added I dont know about it. One quick example of this is last night I was looking for ascolonian catacombs. I am a lvl 40 ele, and I was walking all over trying to get to the dungeon. I did not know you could access the charr area through Lions arch. There is a lot of in-game content that I still dont know, and the mystic chest really bothered me because I had not herd one thing about it. The forums are good but you have to post questions look for answeres, it is a hassel, there should be an easier way to know exactly what is going on in the world we play in.

1.An ever changing world, the dynamic events are good, but are always the same if they had changing dynamic events it would make for a better playability experience.

2.High lvl cap not easy to achieve. The 3rd day I played gw2 I saw lvl 80’s walking around I remember when I started playing wow it took me 2 months to get to lvl 20. (I got so bored I only played for 8 months. played Guild wars for 5 years)

3.Almost endless lvl cap content. when you do get to the top of your class the game should expand to almost unlimited possibities. I like side games like in FFVII. (for instance) there were so many things to do besides playing the game it made it so much fun.

Looks like there is so much info I see an expansion in the future.

Sometimes in game you just need a break, and sitting down off some cliff on the edge of the water isnt a bad idea.
