I need A LOT of help on Scarlet's Playhouse.

Quick note, you do not need a full zerker warrior to get the Raced to the Rescue achievement. I ran the playhouse twice, both times solo, to get all the achievements. Both runs were on my ranger who is not wearing any zerker armor (though some trinkets and weapons are indeed zerker, except my longbow which is Kudzu so it came with standard soldier stats). First time around I got the Playhouse Perfectionist achievement – the fights are easy if you know how to evade and use your skills in a timely manner.
I missed out on the Faren achievement for the first time because I didn’t consult dulfy so I was figuring out the mechanics and took too long to get the mobs down. On my second run, I skipped everything till Faren, and just burned the mobs down as fast as I could, doused fires, repeated 2 more times, achievement done.
I find this content easy myself; I do concede it’s not the same for every class, but if you keep failing these achievements I’d say that’s a good indication that either your build or your playstyle with said build need some work. My ranger isn’t zerker, but is traited / geared / played in a way that balances damage dealt with being able to stay quick on my feet and evade / block most damage. My point here: the time limit isn’t nearly bad enough to make this hard, as long as you don’t waste any time in dealing with those mobs.

Karma jugs hoarding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The only thing I find somewhat confusing about this move is that, imo, it renders the karma containers pointless to begin with. There were two reasons to keep karma containers that I can think of:

1) Wait till you have enough, then use with a booster, and
2) Use the account bound containers on another character.

Both points are rendered irrelevant nowadays – boosters no longer affect them, and karma is account wide so all alts can access it from the same pool anyway.

My point is, this renders the jugs pointless. When they award a karma container they may as well just give you the appropriate amount of “raw” karma instead. To be clear, I don’t find this that big of a deal – this game shovels boatloads of karma your way no matter what you do anyway; I got a legendary and enough to make another two, and if I went and made another two, by the time I did that I’d likely have enough karma to make another 5.. I’m just confused that they didn’t just stop awarding karma containers in the first place and just started giving people “raw” karma instead – pretty much the same thing, at this point.

The truth

in Clockwork Chaos

Here’s one that makes even more sense:

An Asuran punk – rock band called “The Intercourse Sidearms” are going to interrupt the Queen’s Speech by performing their number one hit during the speech, “Gods Save the Queen”.

Logan will be instructed to arrest them, Zojja will take offense, and Logan will once again be forced to choose between loyalty to his queen and loyalty to Destiny’s Edge. He will become sad / contemplative and go die all the time in a story mode dungeon, knowing he at least can’t be vote kicked due to being bad in there.

Winner and Champion achievement, or...

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Newman.6847

Newman.6847

..running around maps for hours hoping the rng gods would be merciful and finally spawn you the last champion type you’re missing I would like to respectfully suggest that before implementing an achievement, you just have a short sit down and just entertain this question for 2 seconds: “is this even remotely fun to do, or at least not too tedious?” I’m fine with challenging content, but just running around for hours repeating the same thing hoping you’ll get that last one is boring. Games are meant to entertain, and yes, contrary to some, MMOs as well

Once you have 4 champ types, getting that last one has been frustrating for me. I’ve tried camping him at the monastery at Queensdale, and I’ve ran around all maps twice… it took hours before I finally found the gun champ in frostgorge. So, sure, it’s doable, it’s easy, but it can also be long and tedious – something I believe we could all do without. Basically, most of the events aren’t champ ones, so first you have to luck out to get a champ one, and then you have to luck out again to get the champ you actually need. I suggest selecting 5 balloon towers anywhere in the world and have each always spawn a certain champ type so people can stop wasting time running around like headless chicken, and go do the actual challenging content like the queen’s gauntlet. Or at least have a balloon that always has the champ events so players can camp it till they get the champs they need.

Kiel winning is better for casual players IMO

in Cutthroat Politics

While I might not be the most hardcore player out there, as I do my daily bunch of dungeon runs (all diff paths, not just spamming cof p1) , wearing T3 with a legendary in hand, I don’t particularly consider myself casual either. I voted Kiel and the assumption that all who did that are noobs is kinda wrong.

The way I see it, there were 3 reasons to support a candidate;

- the fractal choice;
- story wise, which candidate you like better;
- least importantly, the temporary reward (key or wp discount for 4 weeks);

Fractal choice; I find it funny how a lot of Evon supporters were dead certain the abbadon fractal would be the best thing since sliced bread, and Thaumanova would be boring, without actually knowing anything about what they’ll look and play like. Without seeing them it’s impossible to know – they may have been right but it’s all assumptions with not much but overall theme to go by. There are many things that make content like this good, and most of them we’re not privy to yet in regards to the fractal choice. In short “battling a god” may sound good on paper but making it really good gameplay wise is something else entirely. Abbadon fractal could have easily ended up as Cliffside 2.0 – as in, a fractal most groups try to avoid and go back to Dessa’s lab the moment they see it come first because it simply take too long. When you have to complete 3 mini dungeons plus the jade maw one you don’t want to spend too much time in each. IMO, the mini dungeon format probably isn’t the best way to revisit the Abbadon thing; a full dungeon would be able to give it justice much better.

Regarding character personality, lots of people said Kiel is a boring goodie two shoes cardboard cutout. They were right, but.. Evon is exactly the same. He’s the generic “villain” where Ellen is the generic “do gooder”. When I saw Evon in the intro sequence introduce Ellen as his assistant then tell her she’ll get her feelings hurt in the elections, I wanted to see him lose. His behavior was that of a person who has a lot of wealth and just assumes things will go his way, always. I see enough people like that win in RL, tbh. But, I think a far more interesting choice would be to have him act from behind using his wealth and connections to pull strings. Seems more his style.

- Temp rewards are almost irrelevant, imo, since they are temporary. Cheaper wp’s probably won’t save us that much over a month, not any amount you couldn’t make up for in a few dungeon runs. However, as a matter of principle, I never buy RNG boxes for real money. If I’m going to shell out my hard earned money I want to know what exactly am I getting in return, not this gambling bs “maybe something awesome, but way more likely a few not particularly useful boosters”. So I don’t care how much of a discount the keys got, I wouldn’t buy them anyway.

I do wonder where they plan to go with Thaumanova, should that Kiel happen to win. What we know about the site is that the “fabric of existence was turned inside out”, opening portals to.. everywhere and anywhere. Sometimes you see those steam mech creatures in there, which makes me wonder..

In the asura personal story, it is hinted that the steam mech creatures come from an alternate future, having been invented by your evil future self who used them to gain power. If that’s something they wanted to explore, it might be quite interesting, it has that Walter Bishop / Fringe ring to it that I like. Then again I only played GW1 and factions so Abbadon doesn’t really mean much to me beyond “ooh it’s awesome” from players who did.

Behind the mask explorer achievement

The theory is that the more hits you get on him, the higher the chance that he casts his transform skill.

Go equip a low-level white weapon and attack him repeatedly. Use a class with fast autoattacks, like d/d thief.

This time I got a white level 12 shortbow, and took off all of my armor and trinkets to further reduce my attack stats. It took quite a few hits but eventually he did transform me and I got the achievement. Thank you for the help, problem solved

Hi, I’ve tried to get this achievement twice now. It is one of those skritt burglar achievements that you get when you find a chest, and the burglar you attack turns you into an animal. There are 3 like this, “A waddle to remember”, “Chicken Scramble”, and “Behind the Mask”. I got Waddle and Chicken Scramble easy. However, I’ve tried getting Behind the Mask yesterday and today, and the same thing happened. I’d find the chest, activate the event, then follow the skritt who would not transform me at all no matter what I did. Yesterday I attacked him, when he wouldn’t transform me I let him live a bit longer then killed him after a while, all without him transforming me. Today, he wouldn’t transform me again so I attacked only so often until he “escaped” and the event failed.

Is this bugged, am I missing something, has anyone run into this problem?

One tip I’ve got for a greater chance of finding a normal, more relaxed but still competent group would be to advertise for path 2. It’s not hard at all, doesn’t take long, and if you like the group near the end of the run ask them if they want to run p1 a few times. Chances are you’ll find a bunch of necros, eles, rangers and whatnot jumping at the chance to farm this for some gold without getting kicked because they’re not zerker warriors.

Basically, while CoF p1 can be a very efficient gold farm, it’s not the only way to do it. The day I finally completed my legendary, I ran CoF a few times, SE p1-p3 a few times, TA fw/fw then up, some CoE.. etc. Personally I find just repeating the same path over and over for hours mind numbingly boring – I prefer to mix it up a bit with other dungeons even if the gold farm takes a tad longer. I bought the game to have fun, not to repeat the same thing all day because it makes me most gold..

why is the new dungeon so hard at the end

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Its hard with a pug easy with people who know what they do.

Exactly. First time I did this was with guildies on TS. No wipes, smooth run. Second time I did it with randoms, we did complete it but there have been several wipes and it took much longer. But it’s completely doable with a random group as long as you don’t get like 3 bad players in said group..

Jormag goes to full health in second stage

Newman.6847

I can’t be 100% sure but his health seemed to melt quite fast in phase 2. I’m not sure, but it’s possible that in phase 2 his health bar starts considering half of his health as 100% then goes from there. I can’t be sure because the event still took forever due to a self fulfilling prophecy taking place – lots of players simply left when they saw the reset to 100%. One went as far to say “I’m AFK will come back when he’s almost dead”, then came back after 15 minutes to complain he’s still not at 10%. At this point I honestly wished you could use knockback on friendly players so those of us who actually worked the event could prevent that guy from getting his reward for akitteng while others do the work for him.. Till ANet confirms I suggest everyone stays next time and let’s see how fast his health melts in phase 2. I honestly think he has the same amount as before and the longer time to do this is due to impatient players.

Did this one with guildies, we got it on the first try. If you know how to dodge the red circles you shouldn’t have a problem, really. If they didn’t introduce challenging / “hard” / fun sort of content every so often, they’d lose more players than if they made everything super easy for the casuals who don’t do dungeons because they’re “hard”, imo. I found running that place to be very fun – another nice content in a stream of what I consider quite well designed stuff – SAB, molten facility, and now this.

100 Southsun Supply Crates Opened

in Last Stand at Southsun

Newman.6847

Always nice to see some research done in the name of science I guess I got really lucky – I never bought and crates, and maybe had 10-12 of them drop so far (honestly not 100% sure about this number I didn’t count, but it can’t really be more than that).

The notable loot so far included:

- 1 Sclerite weapon claim ticket;
- 1 Mini Faren;
- 1 Mini Kasmeer;
- 1 Consortium mobile crafting station.

And of course a bunch of Southsun related mats, karka shells, passion flowers, etc. I honestly thought the drop rate for the minis was higher since I got both after not that many crates opened. It’s really too bad I don’t even like the Sclerite weapon skins – wish I could sell that ticket! Not sure why would anyone ever want the mobile crafting station either, but the minis are kinda nice. I’ll sell Faren, but I’m way too shallow to ever sell Kasmeer

Update – I can now log in and get back into the game. I tried guesting on Piken Square and that worked. Then I returned to my own server (Ruins of Surmia) and that now seems to work as well, don’t see any lag atm.

we defeated the first boss and suddenly got ungodly amounts of lag.

All your fault :P tease

Heheh, must be. Dang it, and the group I got in was like super efficient, everyone knew what they were doing.. of course this won’t happen when you hook up with a noob squad trying to do a dungeon exp run

Given the mass DCing going on I hardly think Anet aren’t aware of a massive drop in the number of actives players in the game.

We don’t know how massive a drop we’re talking about. Before I DC-ed I managed to ask my guild mates if they were experiencing lag, and managed to get two of them to respond that everything’s fine before the client went down. While you’re probably right, it’s also possible that this affected a smaller number of people, it’s not like there’s thousands of posts in this thread. In any event, contacting support can’t exactly hurt.

Its the weekend isnt it? Alot of people are playing.. I’m out too still having trouble.

This is a mmo, however. A mmo that can’t handle a bit more people over a weekend wouldn’t make much sense. Besides all the weekends before this one were fine for me.

Anyways, I can report the same issue on Ruins of Surmia. I just got in a Twilight Arbor exp run group, we defeated the first boss and suddenly got ungodly amounts of lag. Shortly after that my client dc-ed. I tried to restart it but couldn’t log in. After many attempts I was able to get to the character select screen but everything was still really laggy. When I tried to get into the game itself the client crashed again. Can’t log in again.

I reported this to support. I suggest everyone with this issue does the same if they haven’t already. More reports = more exposition = potentially sooner fix.
