One of the things about being able to fight from range or making meleeing with you an unattractive proposition with mid-fight trap drops is you don’t need or even want the same tools you carry on a medi-Guard.
Will Dragonhunter builds be as potent in the first month of refinement as a build that’s been polished for years? It had better NOT be, because that’s just nuts both as an expectation and as really crap design work. But, give it three months and you’re gonna see both the play-experience and the build-craft mesh to generate some real threats on the field, threats that will kick you’re backside if you try to counter them like every Guard with a bow is just a handicapped medi-guard.
Sorry I don’t have a complete playstyle to lay out in front of you, yet. The class is still in flux and the DH fans have only had six days compared to 2+ years. But keep an open mind. You’ll be fighting against and alongside the real deal very soon.
The only real threat last beta from DH was that trap. Even with it being bugged, killing a druid or scrapper wasn’t easy. All the other traps are lackluster. Test of Faith doesn’t even have initial damage. For it to land damage, someone has to walk over it, trigger it, and then cross it.. like seriously you’re better off taking something with self sustain like drennon said. Now LB damage is going to be nerfed because thieves can’t dodge right after they steal or at all.
Alas, it was indeed a bug and needed to be fixed. A single skill that deals that much damage (from being CC’d, nonetheless) was a bit much. Sleight of hand was your best friend this last weekend in PvP.

Yea, I made several posts on the BWE thread about making f3 an instant cast. The fact that it gets interupted, then we lose out on stab, the blocks, prot/aegis just makes no sense, especially when its on a long cooldown. Another big issue is f2 being interupted, anyone can CC you mid leap and you basically lose out on everything and that can get you killed easy since virtues are our main source of survival.
Another issue is Test of Faith, when dropped it does no damage. Only damage from this trap is when someone crosses over the aoe. This should be made like Ring of Fire where there’s initial damage when dropped, then bonus damage for every enemy that crosses it, that would make it slightly more viable.
Longbow is really strong atm, only needs some minor tweaks, maybe unroot us when we true shot and lower the cd/cast time of hunter’s ward.

DH needs a reliable stun break. F3 has a cast time so if you get focused and locked down you’re dead. Contemplation of purity is our main condi cleanse, can’t waste that trying to stun break. None of the traps are stun breaks. So where’s our stun break? This is crucial especially since dragonhunter is an offensive line and we need the survivability. Anyone who is going to take shouts to stun break would rather go honor line than dragonhunter. So yea, give us a stun break. Whats the point of having our stun break/stab(f3) if it has a cast time, how does that even make sense.Dragonhunters will be locked down and killed so easily without it.
I would like to see some of these trait changes for guardian this upcoming balance patch(prob not but worth a try). I am approaching this from a PvP perspective.
1.Move Glacial Heart back to Valor. With all the dmg/stealth buffs thieves and mesmers got burst guardians could use a little more dps to compete with them.
2. Communual Defense should give you aegis aswell not just allies since its on a 15s ICD.
3.Change Might of the Protector to what it was, no ICD and 1 stack of might per block. Let us decide if we want to use shelter proactively or reactively. Plus it makes for some good counter-play if we time our shelter with a burst properly.
4. Change the damage % of Power of the Virtuous from 1% to 2%. There are 11 total boons, so if its at 2% the most dmg we could get out of it would be 22%, which is never going to happen in pvp, it will probably be around 12-14% buff instead of 6-7%. If you’re a bunker guard you will get more boons but the dmg won’t really mean much anyways so I’d like to see this get buffed.
5. Binding Jeopardy and Retribution should swap places. Retribution fits the zeal theme more of symbols/retal so you would get more use out of it there. Radiance is more of the blind/immobilize theme so binding jeopardy would be better there.
6. Right hand strength should have a cooldown reduction for all one handed weapons not just the sword.
7. Zealous blade should have a 10% dmg buff, not 5%. Gs on burst guardians is very weak compared to mesmer shatters/thief burst.
8.Move Writ of Persistance away from Pure of Voice. Bunker guards should be able to use both not have to pick between the 2.

I’m only talking from a tPvP perspective here. 3 things I would like to see changed.
1. True shot should not root us in place, guardians have a hard time surviving with low mobility and its going to make that worse with 2 of the LB skills completely rooting us in place(true shot/hunter’s ward).
2. Hunter’s Ward needs a shorter cooldown, 45 seconds is way too much. The CC aspect of the skill is OP, but it roots you in place for a good 3ish seconds and its not that hard to avoid the CC by avoiding the aoe while it casts. I would like to see this at 40 seconds like ring of warding/line of warding.
3. I like the cooldown changes to Spear of justice and Wings of resolve. I would like to see 2 things happen to Shield of courage. First, reduce the cooldown from 75 seconds to 60 seconds. Secondly, make it instant cast(only courage, spear/wings keep their cast times). This is mainly because Shield of courage is the main stun break for medi/offensive pvp specs. If you get locked down and constantly CC’d you need to be able to pop f3 instantly to break stun,get stab and shelter/rf. Having a cast time on our stun break/stab makes it extremely hard to get out of Oh kitten situations. If you make Shield of Courage instant cast, it will make these DH virtues much better than the original ones.
