To keep this relevant to your GvG episode however, you may want to try discussing the actual meta, discuss what is was in the early days, how you feel it has advanced, and perhaps what styles of play you would like people to perform in the future. For example I really like the stealth play in Tpvp and I would personally like to see players spiking out lone targets in GvG with specs like S/D ele or Backstab thief, although on the flipside such playstyles are inferior to the mass AoE nuking due to the ability to rez so fast through banners or players, or ranged being able to collapse in their melee train damage forcing those targeting them to follow etc

If you want the gameformat to have complexity, it is an idea to get people thinking about where the complexity lies aside from “tight melee train, good water fields” because thats just mechanical ability, not really meta development.

Ditto, but I thought it was a good beggining for deeper discussions. Acknowledgment of the whole format past the name controversy.

In regards to the meta we see, I honestly think we’re just dealing with an embryo of possibilities. The meta is stale and mostly cookiecut, with almost all crews running variations on the RG classic. It works and everyone knows. But it can be countered. Also, it can be refined inmensely. The game changes with each patch but players are slow to adapt to these, most prefer to stick to bulletproof & traditional setups.

Skys the real limit in these, I can give some examples from the top of my hat… like fielding a dps warrior clone heavy setup that rampages in unison on command (5-10 guys opening with hammerstun>rampage 5 on 25 stacks of might could be hilarious. Burst squads countering periphery dps and cc already happen, usually a one man thief job, but in todays meta refining this could be a definitive edge.

Full berserker squad that vaporises on first pass? You guys did that back in the day, its incredibly effective. Just because a very select few managed to counter it on occasion it shouldnt have been dropped. It takes skill both ways, and is very flashy and interesting. Makes up for awesome fights too.

Again, embryo state & skys the limit. we’re in need of some man power tho, and an official turf. Till then we are a true footnote.

Also, I think you confuse popularity with skill, a mistake many young gamers make today. The key to the finnese of a games meta is the number of ppl involved in the competition. In those regards, for example, a MOBA like LoL or a format centric game like GW1 sure as hell beat the crap out of our fight club. More ppl, more skill, more competition. Pretty sure that if we had 100k players doing this every day, the skill ceilling would skyrocket.

On another note, most of the competitive gaming scene ignored this game based on two things: the monetization fiasco of early release, and the overall dominance of other game formats such as mobas or rts. Its as simple as that. People go were people (and money) are. it’s the cool party law.

Thanks for the support and the nice feedback it really keeps me going. Wont lie to you, I kinda work my kitten off, was never a videogeek pro to begin with… these past weeks have been a learning storm. Im kinda discovering a vocation here, sort of. I’ve been watching some old GW1 GvGs out of curiosity recently. Decent.. but to me it looked a bit static and disperse. I dont see coordinated movement as intense and pronounced as in GW2. I see people fighting in 2 to 5 man clusters. Im talking ESL finals, not some random chums… these guys were playing the game as they should. Dunno, I must have played like 10 games with a similar competitive format (MMORPGs, mind you) and I coudlnt see what was so special. Typical stun/burst/kite meta. Lots of healing too. NPCs involved, objectives involved, not a true deathmatch since they respawn… really. It was ok for the time, and what sealed the deal must have been the added features to spectate, tourneys, and the awesome community this format must have brought together. But thats nostalgia ppl. Dont let that blind you and miss out the deep, complex and deadly meta of mass combat deathmatch in GW2. Give us half the stuff you guys had in 1 and this would be a powerhouse.

15v15 is a format the old angry veterans should have ease to dominate, yet I dont see them in any way shape or form represented in the GW2 GvG community. Just a fair warning, cluster fighting wont cut it in this one… better have a crew that does the throng ballet daily or you’ll be toast.

This is an issue I rly cant beleive hasnt been looked into.. I have several friends that actually left the game on the basis of beign unable to tell dead enemy from live enemy (all wvw centric ppl). Grey and black sounds like a plan… colorblind mode, the ideal.

Omg i just saw the GD vs Scnd scraps and almost peed my pants, holy ghost, insane rounds. The game evolves, the meta sharpens, i could see it. Incredible technical details, insane lvl… long exhausting rounds that put crews to the test…

Too bad you dont go official, those were without a doubt the highest lvl bouts ive seen… maybe ever. Im featuring the hell out of that if i can get some HD fo-sho!

Rumor is GD proposed and Scnd declined Runty… leader on hiatus or something. Truly underwhelming.

Think mya deserve a mention. TUP have been quite a bit stronger recently too (hard to say how much of an impact their recent higher numbers have had though).

I see Mya at least as the strongest middle tier competitor, but in all fairness they need to down a baller crew to confirm their ranking. The other crews I mentioned, specially the first 3, have big names in their pockets and they are in shape as of today.

I know little of this TUP you speak of… better get to it.

Oh, and btw, VotF registered in GvG.com!!! Omg im hyped Real crews that have a serious aspiration for the crown WILL HAVE to travel to face the oponents they need to prosper in the ranks. Im looking at you Mya.

Three main runners up, if were talking GvG here. GD, VII and Scnd, in order of importance, imho. Too close or soon to know for sure tho. Any of those three can take it. Plus dont count GH or VotF out.

Is this something you plan to do on a weekly basis Ogre? Expect a lot of new subs if this becomes a regular feature. A place to check all the scores and see some matches from the week is just what the GvG community needs to keep up to date and raise the profile. Very impressed with this idea.

It may even be a step toward Anet doing something about a pvp format that is sorely missing from GW2.

Well Aphix, youre talking to a thug that took little interest in formations and strategy and did what was told… I can only give you some guidelines. Regardless, know that Sacrx is preparing a video where I believe he might touch subjects like this.

Everybody knows the mass combat meta revolves around 4 classes atm… Guardian, Necromancer, Warrior, and Elementalist. Additionally, 1 or 2 mesmers are a must. My perception is that the rest is kinda optative… In around 13 gvgs I was fielded in, we never used less than 3 warriors… guardians were always the most numerous amongst us.. 5 or 6, the norm.

Sorry if the info is not simple and straightforward, its what i got.

@ Aphix: just try to aim for as close to 3k armor as you can, id say minimum hp 22k+applied fortitude… theres freedom so mix it up according to your needs. Both GM 15% means both grandmaster traits that give a 15% boost to either dmg or crit chance based on adrenaline lvls.

@MilKzz: all valid points friend, altho we’ll have to agree to disagree on the lemongrass… I’m always thinking more defensively tho; this type of warrior is mostly only killed by roots & snares so…
Cleansing fire is rly rly tempting, but 50% uptime for retal is crazy (remember +30% boon duration). I can endure slow adrenaline for that… in raid mode you will be perma retal, like nobody else. And yeah, someone has to go for empower allies definetly.. workers are not selfish but you need to find a balance. This was mine.
One thing I love about GW2 is that rly, theres not just one “better” way, it’s all about finding your own way. Feel free to overwrite any of my choices with yours if it works for you

Veritas, I used to rant a lot about this, b4 the Lemongrass poultry was introduced (flat out best choice atm on current wvw meta imho). Thing is the mango pies are the safe bet food… and especially good if you are piling regen effects on your char (88+world buffs per second is BEAST) Think about it… they have no condition to give u benefit, theyll always be there, ticking, whereas your on kill food will fail you when kitten hits the fan, or when you are using siege/banging a door. But who can beat the mitigation of -40% cond duration honestly :/

PS-Dolyak runes SUCK, in case someone had a brainfart. Its known to happen to the best of us, chill. 30/s not worth it vs other choices.

@bambam: heh, its clear you “get it”… thats a pretty clever build. Unblockable tremor every 25s sounds very interesting. Im honestly loving it, but id go (V) dual wielding and sword/axe instead of GS.. its more or less an equivalent and makes u more balanced. If you have a tough time with conditions you can always sacrifice empowered for dogged march.
Rly Rly lovin the double stun break and double stab coating. It definetly has wheels. Bit low on crit dmg but crit happy, so it can work out. Try to juggle some all stat jewlery, it might help. Otherwise, hf & enjoy your surfing

About the destroyer warriors… Id recomend to you the channels of other RG warriors who were specialist destroyers, like Zumos or Empyre. I can give some hints myself i guess…
The main thing to have as a destroyer is Melandru etc combo, so you can drop the horn (and the whole cond game) and focus on pain dealing. Feels unstopable with decent stab. Having a leap is recomended, as always.
Recomended weapons? Hammer, GS, Axe, axe offhand, mace offhand (no target limit on mace 5, its a pulse!!!). There is freedom here finally but choose wisely.
Forget shouts, horn, boons, and crap… grab as many dps tech as u can.. the obvious targets— Empowered, both GM 15%, Destruction of the emp, deep strike. Lots of freedom but remember to be somewhat tanky or ull melt. Dead dps dont dps.
A full signet build would prolly be the most optimized thing for dmg nowadays. Stun break, adrenaline on demand, unblockable bursts… its a faceroll build.

@ Wanze: i had 5%dmg myself, but some good friends recommended it to me and im not going back. Dmg is insane. Altho if i had maybe less than 40% buffed crit id go dmg.

@ Haz: the smaller the groups the less impressive your support skills are. This build is more of a “bulk buyer”, id say a minimum group of 5 is required to shine (team battle). Note that I have not been downed by a single player in all 2013. This build can handle the pressure of 10+ chasers. I gave up on duelling long ago, since I cant seem to die or finish most of my good opponents. I used a variation of this then, tho.

Sigils:
GvG set: hammer fire – sword fire – warhorn 5%crit
Throng surfing: hammer restoration – sword restoration . warhorn stamina
Extra hammer with bloodlust

About banners: too static and clunky for me. Gr8 support tho, and the full support path includes banners no doubt. About ultimate banner, many ppl get it, its handy for your raid, but I think raids should have max 2 wb to res up the leader or if kitten hits the fan. More is giving up a lot fo damage in favor of a CD that barely gets used. Its hard to guarantee fury and decent might on you in long battles if your raid is not boon heavy and you have no signet.
