Another question: which stats (prefix) would you recommend for the swords?
I’d be totally satisfied with a conjured two-handed axe. That’s all I ever wanted for my warrior.
Seems some of you still don’t get it after all these months : no new weapon types. So no two-handed axes and no land spear.
Correct, no new weapon types. But a conjured weapon is basically no new weapon type but just a skin with a different skill set, pretty much like the shadowy scythe the Reaper is wielding in Reaper’s Shroud or the gun kits of the Engineer.
And are you really going to cry happy tears for some 3D game? wow..
It’s probably just a stereotypical expression. And even if he’s enjoying the game that much, what concern is it of yours (especially if you reply in that arrogant manner)?
Sword sword is better for wvw due to the block and the leap
People generally shy away from dual axes due to the axe off hand being rather lacklustre pre patch, however, now that berserker’s power depends on quickly building and the spending the adrenaline I’d say looks pretty good for pve/dungeons(imo better than mace in maintaining ur dps)I’ll if you require movement skills simple equip a great sword as well as ur double axes for traveling around as both of them are weapons that scale based on power
Sword sword might become the new meta for due to condition changes however, we don’t know that yet and the fact warriors are fairly fast at killing whatever iris with power weapons in pve- it didn’t matter
Imo in this game, looks is everything
Edit: if you think axe lacks in power- you r terriblly wrong(unless ur running a defensive warrior in pve which means ur wrong to the core) 2700+ hours on warrior
Thanks for your reply. You misunderstood my statement regarding the lacking power of axes. What I meant is that the auto chain and the burst skill are very powerful and I love them, but most of the other skills (especially those from the off-hand were pretty lackluster). I still enjoyed using them. Whirling in a pack of mobs is somewhat satisfying. Since you mentioned the off-hand is now more powerful/useful the decision between those two sets is even harder.
I can’t deny the power of a greatsword but I don’t like it’s skills and feel as a whole. I plan to either use Dual-Swords or -Axes and x/Warhorn or Longbow.
I’ve been a fan of Sword/Sword in open world PvE for years, long before the latest patch, because between cleaving and bleed-stacking, swords make it possible cut through huge swaths of mobs, stack lots of bleeds on them, sidestep, duck, dodge in and out and generally not have to worry about finishing them off.
Whenever I run with the greatsword or hammer (which I enjoy mainly for the CC and stress-relief purposes), I constantly find myself chasing down stragglers that have that last little bit of health left. Not so with the sword. Once they get a stack of bleeds on them, they’re doomed..
I like the ranged torment on offhand sword, and if someone throws down a combo field, the leap is nice, too, but for most open world PvE scenarios it’s all direct damage and bleeds, and so far in my initial post-patch testing, things seem to be fine.
YMMV.
Thanks, that’s exactly what I enjoy about the swords (hence the word “dynamic” in the OP").
Indeed rampaged/sinister seems to do verywell, equip a longbow and watch them run around in burning field while u bleed them with ur sword the fire field shngerize with ur sword’s leap and projectile so u can get a lot of condition damage going very quickly
However by going dedicated hybrid or condi, u kitten ur self out of the rest of the warrior’s weapon sets And if u ever plan to switch build, ur gonna have to get another set of armor
Also not sure what kind of warrior u been playing, I can leap block dodge shout but I have never seen my warrior “duck”
Thank you. Locking myself out of the other weapons isn’t a big deal (in case I decide to go with swords and full condi damage) since I’m not interested in most of the other ones (besides that I already have a full set of Berserker exotics for my dual-axes). Greatsword is a no-go in general and I don’t like the rifle skill set either. Hammer gameplay is very fun but rather inefficient in PvE. Mace and shield are not my cup of tea, too. So this decision is pretty much straight forward.
Hey,
I have a hard time to decide between these two weapon sets since I enjoy both of them.
1. I love the mobility and pretty much every single skill of the dual-swords bar. Skill #2 is awesome when just running around, exploring and killing single enemies. This set feels very dynamic.
2. On the other hand I also love the look, feel and vibe of two brutal axes. Aesthetically the skills are perfectly fine, but most of them lack in the power department. I tend to use them nonetheless.
What do you think, which of these two sets is more efficient in killing PvE enemies and more versatile (open world, big boss events, dungeons and maybe even WvW) since the latest update – maybe even in consideration of HoT if it’s possible?
Thanks in advance for reading.
flying mounts in gw2 in the future question?

That would be totally awesome. I love flying through the air in RPGs.
P/p thief for pve was good?
What have I been doing this whole time!?!?!?/!/!/
“Good” is a matter of perspective. In terms of killing efficiency it wasn’t but I and a lot of other players liked it nonetheless because pew pew. No need to be sarcastic.
Well, I lost my P/P thief but I got a D/D condition thief. The upside is a bit lacking but I’m OK with that.
What do you think about Resourceful Trapper instead of Panic Strike and using Needle Trap instead of Caltrops? Wouldn’t that be even more damage (more condition damage, might and vulnerability)?
Here’s the code for your specializations:
{{Specialization/Deadly Arts|top|mid|top}}
{{Specialization/Critical Strikes|top|mid|top}}
{{Specialization/Shadow Arts|bot|bot|bot}}
Thanks for the guide. I love it already. Conditions are finally awesome.
it has not even been confirmed Sniper/Gunslinger spec is what we are getting. (Though it really seems that way. Lets hope!)
It looks like Thief gets a staff and not a rifle.

I see the image you where talking about. Monk spec could be cool but if that is true then ranged thief is not is a good place.
Yeah, exactly my thoughts (even though I like the idea of a melee staff wielder). Hopefully they’ll change the balance of our beloved pistols in an upcoming patch.
Before finishing my kitten long post, I would like to remind you all something. Especially to those who claim that thieves are meant to be “melee only”; " Robin Hood was a bloody THIEF.
Best part of the whole thread! You, Sir, deserve a medal.

So, my berserker axe/axe is not viable anymore? Screw this
It never was. lol
In PvE? It always was and will still be viable because pretty everything is in PvE. Probably not the most efficient build, but effective and viable.
Anything is viable in WvW and PvP by that definition, too.
Yes, it’s viable but not efficient.
I am hoping that this is their way of addressing the Ricochet situation (with a really bad excuse) because thieves will be getting a gunslinger-esque specialization and they can’t reveal it yet.
I hope so, too. This would save the class for me. Otherwise I doubt I’ll play it anymore.
Too bad, I loved my dual pistols. :’-(

OK, after I saw the Thief part I revoke a part of my statement. My favourite thief build P/P got nerfed. WHY?! :’-(
I’m currently watching the Twitch stream which hosts a few independent streamers which show us the new traits/specialization system. And I have to say: it’s awesome, thank you ArenaNet!
Finally conditions are far more viable in PvE and some of my favourite weapons and builds became more powerful and (nearly) dead even with all the previous meta stuff. Also I like the new specializations a lot better than the trait system. Hopefully we’ll see a lot more diversity than before.

The reason is “more money is good” and as long we’re willing to pay everyone’s happy, right?
Besides that, our (European) money goes to a company in Ireland, Digital River Ireland Ltd. Therefore NCsoft/ArenaNet/Digital River has a lot of tax advantages. So they’re even more happy.
I’ve tried all the builds suggested in here and I like Sagramor’s one the best. I play it with dual pistols and it’s a lot of fun. Thanks for all the advice.
If you wanna camp FT, just run FT with HGH and Bunker Down. Really doesn’t matter which weapon you use since in all likelihood you’ll rarely be leaving FT. Build doesn’t flesh out until late game, so may not be best for leveling.
Give it a shot.

Seriously. If you are so bitter about it, why are you even still here? go find another game you’ll enjoy more and stop being such a sour lemon.
Probably because they care about the game but have different kinds of issues with the recent announcement. I have a question for you: If you’re ok with everything about it why do spend your time writing this comment and insult people in an objective discussion (at least most of them do) which just express some different kinds of objective critique? You could instead contribute something constructive or let those, who want to discuss, discuss.

EU countries usually have higher taxes , amng other things because we usually have real health care and social security systems, and they must be paid.
And so prices are usually a bit higher around here, and you often see the same value in € and US$, the extra cost compensates for extra taxes.
True, but that doesn’t explain why that applies to the special editions but not to the standard one.
Do the forums really need another thread regarding that topic just so a different person can state its opinion as the most important? The OP is totally redundant because this could have been written in the other threads and instead of reading and differentiating all the different opinions and perspectives it’s just another “colour everyone with the same brush”.
But I have an advice, too: instead of “advising” others about what they should think and feel you could try to think outside the box.

Hopefully the new specialization won’t have these bags.
i actually never said grenades in my posts in here. nor did i infer it. grenades are crap while levelling. you cant use grenadier till 80. only use them if you want to get a feel for them.)
What I meant is: “I thought you’ve read”. Before your post I saw the words “grenade” and “meta” more than I prefer even though I stated I don’t want to play with grenades. Your post started with “meta” in the first sentence and that’s probably the reason why my brain overcharged and interpreted the rest of your post instead of reading it.
Thanks for your extensive explanation regarding the build.
you can use the stuff you mentioned and still be meta, there is a good bit of wiggle room. stop being so dismissive of people advising you.
I have to apologize, I’ve read “grenades” in your post which is a no-go for me and the reason I became annoyed of your post. But bombs sound OK. Sorry again.
So, with the bomb kit I can stay on that kit, plant bombs, rush around, kite mobs and feel good, right? How about the traits? This as a base frame? http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQFAUlUUpvrtbxPLseJSbhMqwfdRAA
Where to go from there on?
And should I just spam skill #1 and sometimes #3 and #4 for defense or which weapon kit skills are useful, too?
I run around camping FT in open world PvE sometimes just for the fun of it, what’s better then a big flame thrower??
DPS wise, FT isn’t terrible if you couple it with Rifle 3n5 and Static Discharge. It throws a good fire field for might stacks. It doesn’t supply a lot of Vulnerability like Grenades though. I wouldn’t mind running dungeons with an FT engi as long as I saw him hitting Rifle and Static Discharge a lot. You’d prolly get kicked from ‘meta’ groups though.
For open world PvE though, just play anything that is fun. Options are what I love about GW2. I hope they do something with Conditions in PvE, I’m so disappointed in how bad they are currently.
Try a 0/6/0/4/4 FT build. Static Discharge is important to kill things quickly in open world.
Thank you very much. This looks interesting and I’ll definitely try it.
if you come in here saying i wanna be efficient, we will tell you go meta, because thats how this works.
I said I want to use that stuff I mentioned in the first post and be somewhat efficient with that. Instead of arguing the way you did you could read what I wrote. Thank you.
Guys, I don’t care about meta, most powerful builds or how my playstyle would suck compared to that. I just want to have fun leveling something different (and be somewhat efficient at that), something I like to play, instead of playing something I can’t stand. That has nothing to do with learning. I know how to use multiple kits efficient since I played an Engi on my girldfriend’s account. And I hate it even though I “learned” it. If you came here just to say I should reroll or play meta and don’t want to help me in that regard please stop posting. Thank you.
Thanks. I’ll try your recommendations regarding FT, Bomb Kit and Elixir Gun. How would these builds ideally look like?
If you wanna play Engi you’ll want to learn to love kits. To master Engi you’ll need to be swapping kits and weapons constantly to take advantage of the almost 0 ‘swap’ cd that kits give you, it allows you to hit your highest damaging abilities almost all the time.
I just try to hit 80 to be able to get the new specialization because these mobile flying thingies and a big hammer are exactly my cup of tea. I’m not interested in playing dungeons, fractals, whatsoever before HoT/with the standard Engi.
Hey,
I try to find an open world leveling build for my old (but still level 20) Engineer. Maybe you’re able and willing to help me in this regard. There are a lot of things I don’t like about the Engi, and a few things I like.
I don’t like:
- shield
- stationary things like turrets (I want to be mobile)
- grenade kit
- kit swapping
I like:
- dual pistols
- flamethrower
Everything else falls in between.
Ideally my build should have dual pistols and no kits at all but that doesn’t seem viable. A pure flamethrower build would be ok, too. Maybe you have an idea of a build which doesn’t use anything mentioned in the list of things I don’t like and is still fairly efficient.
Thanks in advance.
Hey,
I was told that S/P is the #1 weapon set for leveling (open world) but I’m not sure how I feel about the root of the dual skill. So, there are three alternatives:
- D/D is either a condition set which I don’t like or you have to rely on stealth and backstab which I can’t stand either
- S/D seems to be a great set for PvP but not so much for PvE
- D/P looks very interesting, especially because of Shadow Shot
But how does the damage and survivability of D/P compare to S/P?
Definitely off-hand sword. I want a true Blademaster/Blade Dancer/Swashbuckler/etc.
No, not for this kind of reasons.
You gain might and adrenalin if you’re blocked.
Would the 33% vulnerability trait help keep enemies from removing bleed stacks through condition removal?
it does – plus the bleeds do more dmg.
Vulnerability doesn’t affect condition damage, only direct damage.
