Open World =/= Challenging/Elite

Payadopa.4706

I don’t think open world content should be easy. That said, I don’t think open world content should require team speak or a ridiculous amounts of coordination either because it’s just not designed in a way which naturally promotes that.

To be fair, it’s just one fight in one zone and with a 15 minute timer at that.

Then again, there are whole zones for inexperienced players. The main story line is (usually) easy. And the last few LW patches were more grindy than hard.

Also, didn’t Anet say Tequatl is the hardest boss in the game now? If so then why must it be downed in less then 24 hours or nerf? I’m not demanding Dark Souls in terms of difficulty, but a Kirby Epic Yarn is equally frustrating, though, at other aspects.

First off, beautiful thread, OP. I really like the way you express yourself. Though, I totally don’t share your view. I can understand it, to be fair.

I think the problem is that people were conditioned the wrong way. Over months.
No, you’re not entitled to a reward just because you show up.
No, if you don’t think while fighting you’re not eligible for success.
etc

Once the nay-saying has subsided (a bit) and people start thinking straight again and start to formulate strategies other than just complain (and it MUST be possible, since all servers are on the same page), it’ll get better.

I personally think this game (among many other MMOs) is way too easy.
It totally undermines any tactical thinking (especially in non-instanced PvE).
For me Anet is on the right track.

It’s excellent, and it’s a shame that the game has trained people up to this point to think they deserve rewards just for showing up.

That’s today’s gamer for you I guess. I don’t get it either. People feel way too entitled.
I finally have a reason more to rethink my build and strategy. I welcome more tactic in my games. If a trained monkey could play the game then there is no satisfaction.

A More Rewarding Exploration Experience

in Suggestions

Posted by: Payadopa.4706

Payadopa.4706

Something I find not as well developed is the exploration aspect, especially in NPC ghost towns like the vigil (just been there). Before exploring I kind of already know that’s basically just NPC chatter I’ll get (often just like one sentence, too). I still go to these places ‘cause I really like the lore and mood they try to convey, but it’s basically just empty space.

I hope you guys develope something along the lines of hidden quests/ events that kind of reward the behaviour as discribed above. Would really spice things up and reward people like me. As it stands now, it’s not enough in these areas.

Other than that, thank you, Anet. I really enjoy pleaying (especially LW, even though it’s a bit grindy).

cheers

I’d like to see an in-game explanation on at least the basics of how the Mystic Forge is supposed to work. I know I can look it up but it’s tedious. I have so many pieces of gear that I want to use but it’s the same as throwing stuff away in my book. I’d really like to delve into the finer parts of it but it’s not at all encouraged by Anet. I also don’t want to watch like 3 hours of YouTube footage.

Bag UI Options

in Suggestions

Posted by: Payadopa.4706

Payadopa.4706

I don’t like either options where you can see the name of the bag in the inventory list or where you only see blocks. The former makes the inventory too long and the latter one is impractical the moment you buy special bags as you can’t distinguish the tiles from one another.

I’d prefer something along the lines of coloured tiles. The first bag has tiles outlined in white and the next one in black (or whatever) and so on and so forth.

Payadopa.4706

I’d like to know if there are any plans to better the Mystic Forge UI.
I would like to see something along the lines of the general crafting UI (with a tab that shows you your stowed away items in your bank etc.).

I never really tried the MF before (lack of guidance from the game, I guess) and the process (and I just mean the mixing, not the actual obtaining) is cumbersome.

Since I don’t know the way the forge works (and yes, I like to find out on my own how it works, I dislike looking stuff up on Wikis) it leaves me with stuffing my inventory and try.

Like I said, it could be handled way better (unless I’m missing something here).

Living World - The Story So Far...

in Living World

Posted by: Payadopa.4706

Payadopa.4706

I have to agree. It’s either taking way too long (waiting like 2 weeks to get a few new sentences) or is plain out boring/ generic …or both.

I can see Tyria is full of potential and history but so far the most I see from that is from blog posts or GW1 players. The game should tell the story, not external sources,
but at the moment it feels just like that.

I must admit I’m sharing that sentiment.
I do play a few hours in a row if I have the time, but I can’t nor do I want to keep that up all the time to get enough achievements to get my prize.
It creates a bit of stress over the time since I’m doing nothing but do LS story content before it goes away.
My mesmer is 40 now and I stopped doing my personal story at 26 or so as I’m not having enough time to do both.

I really don’t know how to better this, as I like the flow of new content really much.

Without attacking anyone, I don’t understand why people don’t get stuff like that.
You get mail that tells you exactly where to go, yet people ask (you even see a giant envelope on your screen when you log in).

The item discription says a node will start to appear in your home instance, yet people ask where it’s going to be.

Your story missions lead you to your home instance and I’m pretty sure it says home instance on the map in every capital except LA (as there isn’t one), yep people are oblivious to its existence (though, I blame Anet for that as the home instance is pretty much just an empty space).

I can imagine it can be quite frustrating on Anet’s side seeing that they provide as much info as they can but still that seems to never be enough. ^^’

The game has potential and I wouldn’t mind seeing it around. But only if they fix the issues with idlers, as well as people being able to switch off of the team that already has less players.

Otherwise, we’ll just end up with ridiculous stuff like 5v0 matches with 20 minutes remaining on the timer…

I played for an hour and almost all matches were won because one team basically gave up or swiched teams. You shouldn’t be allowed to switch to teams that already have more members!

I really like the short stories as well. It’s just a shame that they are told outside of the game.

Now, if something like that were to happen in-game (maybe as CS), I’d actually love GW2. At the moment it’s sorely lacking good story-telling.

NPC dialogue is either too short or meaningless, let alone the myriad of NPCs that are completely forgettable.

I am having a hard time finding people for any story mode dungeons.
I’m level 80 now and I still haven’t been able to complete more than 3 of them.
Just did Sorrow’s Embace (I got lucky, I guess) and it was really cool.
It’s kind of annoyed that I’m only given the opportunity like once every few months,
even with lfg.com (which in itself is quite sad).

Is there something ArenaNet wants to do against that or is everything working as intended? Am I to be expected to lfg for hours? Everything else in this game is leaning toward convenienve (for better or worse), so I’m confused.

Why so hard?

in Flame and Frost

Posted by: Payadopa.4706

Payadopa.4706

Its easy actually. I thought why can you take 5 people in if its mindnumbing easy alone already.

Yeah. It should scale up at least a little bit. While it was fun soloing, the moment you duo it’s painfully easy.

And about soloing:
You can’t actually loose in that instance as long as you kill at least one enemy before you go down. When you think about it that way it’s quite disheartening, really.
This game already is too easy.

SAB is pretty good in this regard.

Story Mode and You Tube

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Payadopa.4706

Payadopa.4706

I’m mildly annoyed to say the least.

At first I was not. But things sometimes turn out that way it seems.
I finally found some people to do some TA story with and bam I got told to skip all cutscenes. After me saying ‘Um.. no.’, I was kind of ‘threatened’ by someone in my group, asking if I want to get kicked. I was even told to watch it on You Tube!

After that, I left as fast as I could. For just having some fun and maybe some nice conversations/ meeting interesting people (social element in MMOs, anyone?), this surely left a sour taste.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand, why (some?) people are like this. Why even do story at all, if you don’t want to see the actual story? And even if they have seen it already, but not completed, what gives them the right to tell others what to do?

It’s an increasing trend in todays gaming comunity, I’d say (you know, short attention span, general unfriendliness and the likes). Sadly, as GW2 is concerned, I have the feeling this has also to do with not needing to talk to each other in everything PvE (except for said dungeons, maybe), but that’s just my two cents.

I’m just putting this out here so the people at Anet can discuss this trend and maybe find a solution (if interested). For me, it’s a huge setback. After all, dungeons are the only thing (at least in my oppinion) that are not too easy (in PvE at least) and I really like them for that.

Thanks for reading!

Seriously. This is just a game. If someone proclaims it is work, said person doesn’t understand the meaning of playing a game.

Maybe the OP has been playing too much. I can’t complain. I just got my first 80 recently and I’m at <40% world completion. I think there should be other things than just playing an MMO. Y’know, another single-player game, another MMO, or , dare I say it, even real life. ^^

Edit: Also, I really like Anet. They do listen to complaints and stuff like that, but if you feel the way you say you do, it’s probably best to take a break. Content doesn’t develop itself.

I can fight up to 5 mons and more without breaking a sweat.

Evolving the world, what about difficulty?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Payadopa.4706

Payadopa.4706

I toally agree with the OP. I love walking around uncovering things, even if the reward is lackluster (honestly, I couldn’t care less). On the other hand, as a lvl 80 char, everything (unless it’s tagged as group event and sometimes even then) is too easy.

So far, the only way to really get in danger is to either fall off a cliff or aggro like 5 mobs.
I’m not saying the game should turn excruciating difficult, but as it is right now, I can’t enjoy it. The moment I find an awesome quest I kind of already know that I’m going to win anyway. It’s kind of discouraging even before I have started it. /sigh

I was really looking forward to the changes made with down-/ upscaling but it feels the same as before. Especially when I duo with a friend of mine we don’t even bother to heal that much. For an elementalist water attunement is almost pointless in a non-dungeon situation.

On the other hand, I really like the way you can solo/ group up in this game. Just slightly increasing most of the difficulty would do wonders, though.
