They’ll be back. I felt the same way about some of the permanent picks and, sure enough, they rotated them back into the store. I think I’m one of the few people who actually missed the Star of Radiance, so I’m hoping that makes a return next Wintersday also. Just gotta wait these things out.

I don’t think the karka extermination achievement ever goes away, so I see no reason not to take your time with it. More generally, the entire game (and in fact all MMO’s) are essentially Skinner boxes, purposely designed to sink your time into oblivion as you run a virtual treadmill. GW2 is one of the more casual grinders out there. Look at it for what it is. You don’t have to grind out Princess or Mawdrey II or whatever. Do it because you choose to do it.

Anet could introduce a “legendary crafting kit” in the gem store for a fixed number of gems containing account bound alternative components for converting a precursor to a legendary, much the way many recipes now have alternate versions. This would pin the real cost (dollars, euros, etc.) of a legendary to a relative stable value and allow them to introduce more precursors.

I can’t do more than a run or two at a time without going stir crazy. It becomes exceedingly dull and repetitive very quickly. I am impressed by the sheer tenacity of folks doing hundreds of runs. It’s just not something I could do over and over.

ah, seems like a waste of time unlocking skills, though

He needs access to his bank to fetch the prepared armor and weapons that are required to run the key farm quickly. You can overspec the power of level 1 characters to one-shot ordinary mobs and sail through most of the farm. With the Digital Deluxe edition, you get a mail message with the bank token after you create a character. You click on it immediately after you load the first time, replace the noob gear and weapons with your prepared stuff and then move through the farm.

If you don’t have the bank token, you have to leave the starting instance and go to WvW to grab the stuff you need out of your bank. This burns time.

So, the price is of a precursor is 5 times what it used to be, but that price is “much fairer” than when it was 300g?

It is the same for each player. If you average it over all the players. Everyone likes to talk about how “unfair” it is that the precursor is solely based on RNG.. I bet if they got one as a loot drop today they’d be a lot quieter about the prices.

Sure, everyone walks around with that same 0.07% chance (or whatever it is) of getting a precursor from the MF. But that is a far different thing than what I am talking about. I want to remove the volatility completely by removing all non-determinism in the pursuit of a legendary weapon.

The core problem that I would like to see addressed is that the relative effort (and expense) of obtaining a legendary should be about the same for each player. If I see a person with the GWAMM title from GW1, for example, I know what was involved in getting it and, furthermore, I know that the effort was about the same for anyone wearing the title. It doesn’t bother me that the title is relatively commonplace. It is simply a marker to me for the loyalty and effort that that person put into his/her gameplay.

Some people argue that legendaries must remain a scarce item and thus relatively few people should have them. I argue against that. I feel that the only thing they should represent is the effort and tenacity expended to obtain them. If, over time, more and more people have them, I have absolutely no problem with that.

Anet could, if they wanted to make a weapon truly scarse, create unique legendary weapons that only drop from the world. These would be incredibly rare and expensive, but at least people would be spared the misery of trying to get lucky in the MF.

The bigger picture here is customer satisfaction with the product. Everything else is meaningless. I recall quitting Aion some years ago over the Miragent Pants quest in which you had to grind for ages on NPC castle guards with an impossibly low drop rate in a high-risk PvP gank zone in order to get the mats for an RNG chance at crafting the end-game armor piece. Some people got the pants on the first try. After three or four failures (which took months) I quit the game.

I stand by my assertion that anyone arguing for the status quo is on the inside looking out not on the outside looking in. If a price/scarcity problem would be exacerbated by making precursors readily available — who cares — these are just adjustments in the drop rates, loot tables and other tweaks in the economy.

In understand your argument that it would put upward pressure on T6 mats, as you have made it repeatedly. I think the argument is specious, however, and completely akin to one arguing against purchasing a car because it will put upward pressure on the price of gasoline. Let people obtain their precursors. 500g is plenty. Farm T5 mats instead of T6 and then roll them up to T6.

Put a precursor vendor right next to Milani! 500g each.

Be done with this problem altogether. They would still be relatively quite expensive, but at a stable price and you still have to get all the other things for the legendary.

[Bugged] Devouring the Brand-Iron Marches

Phibes.4128

With all of the attention in Iron Marches being spent on fixing the new LS2 storyline issues there, I notice no fix for the Devouring the Brand meta. With the LS2 ep 3 patch of 7/29, the escort quest (“Escort Sentinel Scalebrusher”) which triggers the meta either doesn’t start at all or doesn’t progress once started. Prior to this LS2 update, the Sentinel Whiptail would get stuck on a ledge in the quest “The Sentinels at Branwatch Encampment are preparing to assault the brand,” so the chain is broken even earlier than before.

This meta event gives a master trait at the end and should be fixed with some priority.

The only thing I was hoping to improve is the fairness aspect of obtaining a legendary. Keep that in mind. It is not fair that some people get lucky in 10 tries and some people still have nothing after 1000 or more tries. By smoothing out the fairness problem and saying to a player: “If you keep at it, you’ll finally get one.” you remove the anger and frustration that is associated with this crafting effort.

Legendaries are nothing so uncommon anymore. A lot of people have them. Anet should perhaps think of introducing some really stunning, unique, ascended weapon drops that cannot be crafted (think: Crystalline Sword Q9). It’s still hard enough to obtain a legendary — but the relative effort and expense in obtaining one should be roughly equal from player to player for a single legendary.

[Suggestion] Precursor Crafting

in Crafting

I’ve looked at the numbers enough on this for it to be clear that it would not benefit the median player.

If you used a linear increase in the drop rate with each failure, starting at effectively zero, that would mean that the drop rate would be lower than it is now until you’ve had roughly 100 failures.

Precursor Magic Find would be an additional probability on top of the baseline chance that alright exists. So if the baseline chance now is 0.07% (or whatever the number is), we would begin to increase from that number, not start at zero, as you suggest above.

[Suggestion] Precursor Crafting

in Crafting

Phibes.4128

Ideally, there ought to be a deterministic way of obtaining a precursor, but in lieu of that, many people may find the following idea appealing: Create a “Precursor Magic Find” metric that is initially zero, i.e. the probability of a successful precursor craft in the Mystic Forge is exactly what is it today.

With each crafting failure, your account-wide probability of a successful precursor craft increases ever-so slightly. Over time, as you fail to craft one, again and again, this “precursor magic find” increases. Eventually you reach the point where you have a good, great and finally superior chance to craft one. Once you get a successful craft, this magic find resets to zero and you go back to baseline probability.

This will give players some sense of closure in their personal efforts to obtain a legendary. It does not make it easy. It simply smooths out the fairness curve a little. It is hard to argue that crafting a precursor in 10 tries versus 1000 is fair in any sense. I am in total agreement that getting a legendary should be both difficult and expensive. But, after you’ve sunk hundreds and hundreds of exotics into the Mystic Forge, the very least the game could do is begin to increase your chances of finally getting one.

I just now realized that if I wanted more dev eyes on this, I probably shouldn’t have posted it on the weekend >_<

Anywho, has anyone been able to get that event to work and get the Commisar to spawn? I’m not sure how guesting would work now with Megaservers, but if pretending I belong to another server in a time of day none of my guild are in Dredgehaunt Cliffs will let me unlock the trait for the characters who need it, that would be something I’d like to try.

This one is really frustrating and I suppose it is a bug. I’ve done all the preceding quests per the wiki and he does not spawn. This event (boss kill) unlocks a master level trait and should be fixed (or clarified if there is something more we need to do to spawn him).

Do you really think I want to look at that every single time I harvest a node? Guess I have to wait three weeks and hope the consortium sickle comes around again.

Don’t add additional taxes to the TP — remove the existing sales and listing fees altogether. That will improve liquidity and tighten markets. People should be grateful that others spend a lot of their time creating markets for goods. It’s perfectly fine for them to profit and handsomely. I’m bitterly disappointed that you put up a “7 day only” sale for the permanent bone pick and then a few short weeks later you put up a “7 day only” sale for the BETTER watchwork mining pick. That pick also yields watchwork sprockets and is thus better than the bone pick. You really let me down here and I have supported the game by purchasing gems on more than one occasion.

^They sent me a generic “post your suggestion on the forums” response to this support issue I submitted, I would like a refund of the 1000 gems I wasted on the lesser pick since the better one came out almost immediately afterward.

I will never buy anything tagged “7 days only” again.

Legendaries without RNG

Introduce a recipe for precursors. Require that the account has a very high amount of achievement points (and max weaponsmithing) to use it. If you set the achievement bar high enough, you’ll still keep the weapons rare enough and possessing them would be associated with an extreme level of achievement in the game. Yet acquiring them would become a deterministic objective with no RNG.

Official Response: Drop Rate of Legendary Precursors

RNG for precursors is demoralizing and unfair. Can’t believe Anet didn’t learn this lesson from games like Aion, released by NCSOFT, the parent company. Make the Legendaries hard to acquire, in fact very hard, but make the process deterministic. Just look at the damage to “goodwill” toward the game that is done when players grind endlessly for a chance to proc and get nothing. Made worse by the other player who says they “got it on the first try.” And the whole argument that the stats of other less prestigious weapons are just as good is irrelevant — Legendaries are THE thing to acquire in the game. Such a pitiful mistake.

Dungeon completion acknowledgement button

Create a dungeon completion acknowledgement system, like a popup that each dungeon runner sees with a button to press. The acknowledgement is seen only in proximity to the final chest and increases the reward for each player, the more players press it. So, vote kicking players still works, but the reward for opening the final chest is reduced if fewer players acknowledge completion. This creates the incentive for a full party to open the final chest.

Trading Post – I would like an account option ‘Confirm Trading Post Orders’ that I can toggle on/off. Sometimes the BUY/SELL buttons “stick” in the depressed state during heavy traffic/lag. I have, on several occasions, pressed the button AGAIN thinking my first order failed to go through and the result was a double or triple order. An optional confirmation popup would alleviate this.

Dynamic Event Content – I would like some kind of DE gauge or meter that would allow me to get a sense of how much of the DE content I have completed in the zone. This one may be hard to implement but it would be a very helpful cue for me to seek out DE content that I may have overlooked.

Recipes – Some non-soulbound and openly tradeable recipes produce items that are soulbound on acquire (SOA). This makes very little sense to me as any items you produce can only be used on the character creating them.

The one thing I notice that’s different today, the only day I’ve had these errors, is that I am not seeing any overflow server popups at all. I am not seeing ANY of that today.
