I’m writing this while waiting out yet another Lunatic Inquisition, maxing the repeat APs before the event goes away, and it occurred to me that minigames are entirely defeating their own purpose when it comes to their respective achievements during the Living Story arc in which they are introduced.
Mini games are a fun diversion from normal play with quirky rules that apply only in their respective arenas. I’m all on-board for that type of activity. In and of themselves, they’re a great time.
However, when it comes to the grindiness of the achievements, it puts the absolute worst taste in my mouth regarding the games that I otherwise would probably enjoy. This isn’t a new development:
Crab Toss, Sanctum Sprint, Southsun Survivor, Aspect Arena. ALL of them had ridiculously grindy achievements that went along with them. Now, I don’t mind the permanent activity achievements. Those, being always available, I view more like the WvW achievements. Still stupidly high, but at least in manageable chunks, I could imagine getting there eventually.
I believe this is defeating the purpose of minigames because people should be able to come and go as they please, with reasonable requirements to the achievements, people will be able to come in, get their feet wet and understand how you play the games. Then, they can play AS THEY CHOOSE TO.
The difference is, as it stands, I get entirely burned out on the minigame in question until WAY after the event has ended. I have done all of the achievements for all of the Living Story updates so far, but the only memories I have of the minigames are frustration and total apathy by the end of them. That isn’t right. I should be excited when I run up to the daily activity NPC, and after the horror (har har) that has been the Lunatic Inquisition grind, I will. not. be doing activities for a good long while.
As an update, it appears that the only way to get credit is to kill someone as a Ghost? It seems to have been the only way I’ve been able to, anyway. But it definitely isn’t a sure-thing, as I’ve been highest scorer as a ghost during rounds and not gotten credit, still.
The counter is still bugged after the patch 30 minutes ago. Point 2, yes though, is fixed
Two issues with this achievement, recently added to the Living Story branch of the achievement panel:
1) when you do play and complete games, you VERY OFTEN do not get credit for games completed, and cannot replicate why. I’ve been on the winning side, I’ve been the highest scorer, leaving the arena and coming back, and the first game still not awarding points, it’s totally screwy.
2) when you click on the available number of ‘repeats’ for the achievement, it reads:
“repeatable: +5
Total: +0/4,294,967,295”.
Assuming that neither of these are intended.
For all we know everything that has been happening since Flame and Frost has been planned by an Elder Dragon, perhaps Scarlet herself is actually an avatar of an Elder Dragon, or she serves the dragon. Personally I hope this is where the story is going.
since we got a story about Scarlet’s birth, and Sylvari aren’t affected by Elder Dragons’ magic, I wouldn’t hold your breath.
Saying 10,000 items needs more context. There is a difference between 10,000 really easy items to obtain that one can get 5000 in 8 hours of gaming, compared to 10,000 hard items to get that you can only get 100 in 8 hours of gaming. So need more context in this regard.
Can someone please answer the one above. Really need the context in all of this.

which you need 15 of to get

20 of to get

and feel free to take a look at all the other mats for those Cob recipes in the first link…they require 10 of a 1000 collection of rare drops (nougat, fangs, skulls) for a total of 10,000 of those, plus 10,000 candy corn.
(as an aside, this is all total bull to me.)
OH AND I FORGOT, LOL.
That’s just to get the recipe to make them. To make the actual weapon,

You want to know why he got stronger?
Because there must always be…a Lich King...a Dragon Aspect of Death

No. There was even a chest where baubles (also) respawned, and the chest was opened.
Wait, what? Which chest? If there really is one, that’s exploitable. If people start exploiting it and collect baubles from it over and over, they might patch it straight away. They’re usually really quick to patch anything exploitable.
they also typically ban the exploiters :p

I think they really did wrong by muting Josh…you could tell he wrote with his soul, and believed everything he said, and I think we need more of that in the video gaming industry, not less; to have muted him through his forum interaction was a mistake because he not only was one of the most reactive designers on the forums I’ve ever seen, but he also knew full well (and admitted it) when things didn’t live up to his expectations.
Not everyone has to emulate Blizzard’s completely vapid CM response style. It makes it come off like you don’t really care when there’s no ‘voice’ to your writing, whitewashing all of your interactions to just tell the facts, and to put no emotion into what you say. Josh had it right, and those above him have it wrong.
Now, we’re at this point where we have absolutely no interaction on this sub-forum, because the person who cared the most has been censured from his own beloved project.
How is that better? For the players who have to suffer in silence instead of actually getting a response from someone who obviously cares a great deal for the content? Players have wasted hundreds of hours trying to get this one achievement and have absolutely nothing to show for it, not even an acknowledgement that there’s an issue.
How is this okay? How is this better for the community, to think that the only person who really cared got cut off at the knees because the higher-ups were scared that there was the possibility of it looking poorly on them.
Utterly contemptible.
Josh wrote that he was worried that they lost players, maybe forever, because of the way his content was received, and maybe that happened.
But worse? Worse is when we come to the forums, trying to lay out exactly what an issue is that should have been caught in QA, hoping that we can help fix the games we all love to play, and getting radio silence back. That frustrates players into thinking they’re right in not needing to come back, when people don’t care enough to even acknowledge the problem.
I would like to ‘second’ this issue…I also have 31/33 completed, and have ran it a few times to make sure I hadn’t missed anything.
This must be a bug…according to the dev playthrough:
@ 12:30 he says all the dig sites from world 1 should still be there, and they aren’t.
(edited by Pinkunicorn of Dethecus.3217)
would be pretty odd to have that be the only changes made to W1
Even with the change going through saying that “you can only get diggable baubles once a day”, i figured it would be good to go through and get them as a basis for continuing into W2 and eventually trib mode, but there are none at any of the dig sites
So I’ve been stockpiling unID dyes for awhile now…wasn’t really sure whether I wanted to sell them or keep them…I found another on one of my characters, ran to my personal guild bank, pulled my stack from storage to add the new one to the stack (I don’t know why it can’t stack IN the guild stash panel, but that’s an aside) and it literally disappeared, gone from my cursor and never ended up in my inventory. It’s just gone. Gone, gone. The heck am I supposed to do about this?
I should also note that according to my guild stash log, it was never “officially” withdrawn from my stash and should still be in there, but it isn’t.
EDIT: This can be disregarded I guess, relogging solved my issue.

I just did the same, and I’m assuming that it will begin to be awarded with February, to not unfairly punish those who completed this month’s monthly before this patch was released.
Same…(15characters)
