That way seems to lead to some sort of bloodstone madness, right?
Leela: I’m afraid Fry is suffering from ocean madness.
Fry: Every time something good happens to me you say it’s some kind of madness. Or I’m drunk. Or I ate too much candy. Well I saw a real mermaid. And I wish for once my friends would have decency and kindness to believe me.
Leela: [whispers] Ocean madness.
[Fry storms out]
Professor Hubert Farnsworth: He may have ocean madness, but that’s no excuse for ocean rudeness.
pretty clear by their silence that they don’t intend to put any more effort into the title system they set up.
it’ll probably shock you that anet started something and then dumped it, so very unlike them.
not that it matters I guess, from the games I’ve played so far of this season, this is going to be the worst by far to play in. So many gimmicky busted specs right now that I would be embarrassed to have another legendary emblem next to my name.
Why would they invalidate the time and effort of other players that actually met the requirements of the wings? And why would that be right? Just wait for the next set
lol wings took effort
u got jokes m8
People are also saying that their Illustrious got progressed if they didn’t achieve it last season, guessing they screwed up pretty nicely, and forgot to add it back in, so division crossing now gives you last season’s.
It’s free content and they want to produce higher quality work. Good enough trade-off for me.
It’s not free content it’s included in the HoT expansion.
Okay, Free additional content, for everyone who bought the current expansion.
Better?Free is relative.
not to mention when said expansion overpromised/underdelivered
But yes for the most part, your not really invested with the GW2 cast all that much, I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I’m older.
I’m 32 and only until this year, I played The Last of Us; Sarah, Joel’s daughter appears only for about 15 minutes at the beginning of the game, and her fate practically moved me to tears.
15 minutes in.
Talk about characterization done right. Take Belinda Delaqua. She’s introduced in one episode and killed off the next. Disposable character, no emotional impact, no nothing. Eir’s death was better executed, but still.
I don’t think it is a matter of maturity, rather than execution/writing.
Personally I think that Tonn in the personal story had one of the larger personalities in all the story instances. I actually really did care about his death and thought it was very emotional, especially later when you go talk to Ceera. I think that was done excellently.
You’re definitely not the first person that I have heard enjoyed the Tonn branch in the storyline, but I distinctly remember how it happened for me, even on my very first playthrough:
I had long since-realized that they threw in characters and took them out of the story entirely in a completely non-organic way, so much so that I had completely checked out with regards to who each character was, what they were doing in each step, etc. By the the time I was into Orr, and had to deliver the news, I went “……who? what? ok, whatever.” But I don’t think it’s news to anyone by saying that the PS is not engaging or at all interesting.
they never really address the mating cycle of dragons.
not that it matters to me, I find the egg to be the most unbelievably boring plot point going.
Wording in the teaser kind of caught me off-guard…“Come together with your friends to mourn the losses you’ve suffered in battle”
I know this is probably necessary, but does it feels really weird to anyone else? I mean, not only was I never really made to care about Eir or Trahearne, but us playing pretend that we’re picking up right where we were supposed to leave off (you wouldn’t probably still be mourning 9 months afterwords, thanks merging of calendars.)
I guess we’ll see when it launches in two weeks, but it’s going to be really tedious pretending that I’m supposed to care.
maybe YOU have to, but not EVERYONE has to get an organised group.
a lot of people solo Q’d to legend.
I’ve done it all 3 seasons, this one was seemingly the easiest for me to do so.
If you have a free guild slot, peek down in the LFM forum or in the Raids forum for a raid training guild. I was in a helpful one for a bit until I realized I simply didn’t have the resources to regear as needed and left so as not to clutter their roster. They offered training but also did regular runs and consistently put up LFG’s to fill raid rosters.
I’d name them but I think promoting a particular guild is frowned upon here. Just check the raid/LFM forums for a poster with “Random” in his name
I actually just joined this guild like a week ago; had my first training run ever, first time stepping into a raid (in gw2 anyway), walked out with a Sloth kill was pretty awesome.
Why do you care about getting max MF first in order to open them? By the time you do reach max MF you would have some boxes no?
Hoarding them for that long doesn’t seen to be worth it if you don’t even have a space to get the actual loot out of the boxes.
I’m not gonna get to max. I figure around 260-275% base then open them. Otherwise the stuff I salvage will just be wasted Luck.
I’ve long thought that elite specs were basically making a dual-spec from gw1 by via dartboard.
Berserker is Warr/Ele
DH is Guard/Ranger
Tempest is Ele/Guard (as you said, E/Mo)
Druid is Ranger/Mo
Chrono, Scrapper, Reaper, DD, Herald are X/Warr
As the pic shows, there are like 60 billion different boxes that come along with reward tracks (this has now bled over to WvW too, terrific.)
Really, wouldn’t it be possible to get by with less boxes? I know that I could open them, but I have nowhere near max MF% (even though yes, it’s a lie), and would like to boost it to higher before I go on opening all these boxes.
Maybe I don’t understand the loot system well enough to ‘get’ why this is a thing, but honestly, I find it tedious at hell that I can’t stack boxes effectively. For example, there are what, like 10 different colored ‘bunny’ boxes in the Jungle Rabbit reward track alone? What the hell is the point of that.
strike this i guess, it just popped on my most recent character swap. well played anet
so, title.
it didn’t pop when i logged in, so I thought oh, i’ll just log over to the character that has it: nope
maybe unequip/reequip? nope
oh, it’s transmuted to Mad Memories, i’ll just swap that back and it’ll pop: nope
maybe unequip/reequip again? nope
relog, unequip/reequip? nope
idk about anyone else but this doesn’t seem to have been resolved.
top 100 on old non-farm LBs
having done the same, I’m not aware of any LBs that weren’t farms. Old solo/teamqueue boards were mostly just farming terrible players.
not that anet cares, but i’ve had 3 games in a row that people have admitted to trolling/losing on purpose to troll teammates because they don’t care. And it’s not like reporting them actually does anything
or a flute song to return you to your most recent checkpoint. that’d be cool.
I’m stuck in a cloud in 2-2 trib mode (near the very end)
naturally, I fight to get out and then eventually /stuck.
Response?
“Your position has been logged.
Please use the button to the right of your skillbar to teleport back to the hub.”
Nothing like wasting 45 minutes of my time for absolutely nothing though!
(I still love SAB, but let’s be real here, this would have been a much better option.)
I appreciate your forthcoming and open attitude towards upcoming changes. As an achievement hunter, I especially appreciate you going out of your way to mention achievements that are being removed with enough time to finish them.
With any luck, you guys will have made some headway on making HoT playable, because personally, I am so incredibly bored, and have been for months.
Jesus.
waiting for development to actually deliver on anything at all. The last 14 months have been incredibly disappointing.
The reddit AMA just confirmed that we won’t be seeing LS3 until late May/June at the earliest….youch.

full rank points as I only care about 15s vs. 30s and the reward track progress.
rank pts are what give reward track progress
Take a look at the timer. For the full points (500loss/1500win) the game has to take a special amount of time (I think it is 7minutes, but not 100% sure on that). You get less, depending on how much shorter your game was.
Since a lot of stomps and facerolls happen in this league that seems to be the most reasonable explanation. Just try it out!
If your games are longer than 7/8 minutes (timer down to 8/9minutes) there must be something else.
The uncropped screen shows that the time left was 8:30, so idk.
Not sure, since the scoreboard was doing its cycle thing. I imagine that it doesn’t actually play a role if it’s above zero, but it was a pretty active game of capping/defending/rezzing since I was holding far pretty consistently with a rev helping gank
As you can see in the attached, I got 1410 for a ranked win, with a couple top stat bonuses thrown in there. This is a consistent thing for me, that I get less than what should be the win bonus, whether in hotjoin, unranked or ranked matches. The same thing also happens for losses.
Honestly, I’ve long-since run out of fun things to get out of reward tracks, so it really isn’t that critical, but it seems like a very long-standing problem I’ve been having.
I appreciate the feedback that I’ve gotten in this thread.
I am quite surprised that more people seem pleased with the expansion than I expected. For me, the story lasted a couple hours, mapping and doing adventures maybe took 2-3 weeks and since then I’ve only been pvping for lack of anything to do that isn’t ‘pay 3k of every map currency for this useless item for a collection you don’t even like’.’
I understand that a lot of people didn’t care as much for LS2, but also consider that they were already knee-deep in expansion at that point. I can appreciate it for what it could have been, if they didn’t have a split focus. I can’t appreciate that they came up so short (yes, again, imo) in the expansion, when they left us with nothing else to do for 10 months while they worked on it.
I, honestly, loved LS1 as a few others did in this thread, but I can also appreciate the sentiment that after a certain patch is gone, the game essentially had no more content than it did at launch, which really hurts the amount of things one can do when the devs go on vacation.
I was, and am, of the mentality that with respect to expansions, ‘fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.’ Well, with how little I believe there is to do in this expansion, and with how long we had to wait, before and after, in order to get what we have, is not worth them doing it to us again, paying for it again, and for the term “as big in scope as HoT was” to even remotely be a good thing.
Can’t possibly disagree more with OP. the problem wasn’t that we had an expansion, it was that is was pathetically small. On top of that it was far more expensive than most expansions, & all of the rewards were turned into Gem Store items.
If they can’t create normal sized expansions for a reasonable price & have normal occasional updates they’ve created a product that, from the beginning, was unsustainable. Having 9/10 of the reward content in the gem store absolutely doesn’t make up for not having a sub fee. All it does is make the content in the game needlessly repetitive & grindy because they need to stretch out the meager rewards to make them seem substantial.
So you disagree with me entirely, but feel the expansion was lacking.
Do you not think that they tried to put their best foot forward, and failed anyway? Do you think they just phoned in the expansion in order to cash in? I’m legitimately confused.
I don’t post in the forums often. Yet I found I wanted to post this time because I tired of being somehow included as “the masses”. I am really tired of other people deciding what is good or bad by their standards, not mine. Sorry I did not mind the cost of the expansion. Still find it fun and worthwhile playing. Sounded to me that the OP was more about telling us despite his claim otherwise at the start by using words like “not capable” towards ArenaNet or worse inclusion words like “the masses” of which I am one and heartily disagree with you. I like all the new specializations, well most of them, and like where the game is headed. Sorry if you do not. However, please stop using words that try to include us all as if we agree with your opinions or using language that is disparaging to the game or other players. I tend to believe someone if they outright say hey I think this or that instead of trying to use others (falsely) as their base of argument. Plus, understand this My Opinion will not change even if all the rest do. That is just me.
I literally don’t believe i could have used the phrase “in my opinion” more. It’s in the title of the thread for crying out loud.
So, you said Yes, and how many different “foundations” have they laid at this point, only to completely ‘revamp’ the system again later? and now you want them to drop this foundation they’ve laid for the rest of the game and revamp it again to only LS.
No. The foundations they have already built can be improved and iterated on in Feature Packs just like they were before the expansion ever came along. They introduced plenty of new systems with that method, and we didn’t have to deal with enormous content droughts to receive said content.
I would say they should beef up to a monthly content release schedule just to strike a balance between these two methods they have employed. Work on an expansion but release unique content once a month.
In a perfect world, I would like this as well, but I worry that we will be worse off for both if they go this route—whether it be because of not enough manpower or some other barrier, it seems that this split-focus has struggled to make this game flourish in either capacity, in my opinion.
You said what they shouldn’t do after nicely telling them they are incapable of learning from their mistakes and doing better next time.
It isn’t a personal attack in the slightest. It’s business. Anet, as a company, should do what is in the best interest of their player base. I am of the opinion that what is best is not an expansion. It is a true focus on Living Story. LS2 was quality above what LS1 was, objectively, it was better in just about every fashion. That was even in spite of the fact that they were half-focused on LS2, and half-focused on HoT. What I propose is for them to go back to LS, without the added distraction of expansion development that
P.S. I doubt LS alone is sufficient for game and character progression.
LS was the most consistent and valuable story they’ve contributed so far. If the past is any indication, they should go with what has best been received, and IMO it was LS2. They could do even better LS3 and beyond without the split attention between regular patches and expansions.
1) they said this expansion was content light because they were laying the foundation for the future expansions.
Yes, and how many different “foundations” have they laid at this point, only to completely ‘revamp’ the system again later?
2) I’m not unhappy with the expansion. You are.
Yes, that is the title of the thread. I asked you whether you were comfortable with another 1+ year of no content for basically what we could have gotten in the same amount of time if they just produced it via living story.
3) all expansion based games have content droughts
and my opinion is that they didn’t handle this expansion well enough to be worth another drought. We’re over 3.5 years into the game at this point, after 5 years of development at this point, and they’ve ‘finally found their feet’ with respect to development cycles?
4) temporary content was hurting the game. People would find out that they can’t access any of past content and leave because there wasn’t enough to do.
LS2 wasn’t temporary content, and that was while they were half expansion/half living storying the development cycle. I’m saying they should just shift to full LS cycle.
well OP, its a bit like being at a party where you are tired and not having fun anymore and just want to go home – except you want to switch off the lights on the way out even though other people are still parting.
Not at all. I just don’t believe the expansion model is a good fit for Anet, for the reasons I outlined.
New motto proposed for ANet by the OP.
If at first you don’t succeed, give up. You’ll never make it.
You’re willing to go for another year forno content on the risk of similar results?
(edited by Pinkunicorn of Dethecus.3217)
I fully appreciate that these are only my opinions, but I don’t believe further expansions will be to the benefit of this game. I understand that there are ‘overhauls’ that are best left for expansions, but this game has also done several different overhauls in the form of ‘Feature Packs’, and I believe that the player base is adequately primed to understand that these feature packs will sometimes change the ways that the play the game.
- While LS2 was of a high quality, it was pretty apparent that they were regularly taking breaks and cut back on releases in order to work on HoT. So, we were experiencing regular content droughts before HoT was even announced.
- ‘Point of No Return’ was released Jan 13, 2015. We’ve been in content drought because of HoT for roughly a year and 2 months.
- HoT was, imo, very rushed. A very cut-down story, coupled with mostly only meta events on rails for 4 maps.
- A lot of grind in the form of collections trying to make 4 meta events “last” for as long as possible
- Expansion cost was as much as a full game.
- WvW update still not in-game nearly 5 months after launch of HoT
- Power creep via elite specializations hurt build flavor, fun, and viability in PvP
These things demonstrate to me that for whatever reason it may be that all these things happened, Arena Net is not capable of delivering an expansion that the masses find appealing. My (albeit anecdotal) experience to others’ opinions seems to be in-line what I’ve said here. For these reasons, I don’t think that it is in the game’s, or the player base’s best interest to continue to develop expansions at this point.

I appreciate your forthright communication and clear intentions, Gaile and the dev team at large. We are in a much better place now than we have been in the past with respect to communication, and I very much want to recognize it.
Scribing has been a huge outlier and I’m glad that steps are being taken to correct it, because I have had zero interest in making a push into the new profession in its current implementation.
While I understand that these are just the overarching goals and not specifics, thank you. I also look forward to hearing about what Colin alluded to in Guild Chat, insofar as making HoT content less grindy in general, and what that specifically means.
feedback:
pros
love the arena achievement changes, shatterer ones are very reasonable
love the gliding, look forward to the possibilities going forward
cons
it’s been since october since anything was released that was new content, and that content was very rushed even so.So much so that many question if just continuing Living Story wouldn’t have been better, and we wouldn’t have had to wait a year for an expansion/pay for an expansion that left a lot lacking.
still no point on staying on losing side in dragon arena
volunteering dragon arena still gives no win credit, despite this issue being well-reported on during wintersday
As for what changes would most improve leagues, you’ll have to wait for more info on that.
Ugh. terrific.

i can’t believe that just worked. Thank you, Abomally. Why did this work? i’m so perplexed.

So, I’ll admit. I was pretty dubious that re-seating the graphics card would fix anything. but I was at the ’I’ll try anything’ point in my diagnostic… and that seemed to fix it!
Thank you so much!
That’s still so strange. Any idea why that would cause an issue in just one game in particular and not another? What made you think to suggest that?
thanks for letting me know, i’ll go try this next I guess. Agreed if it works, very weird.

I have the exact same issue. My computer locked up last night at the end of a pvp match (causing a loss no less, but still got a pip). When I came back in, everything was lagging horribly. I wondered if my video card had crashed and that was the issue. I was exhausted and said screw it, went to bed. This morning, video card seems to be working great, can also play any other game no issues, but even on lowest settings, getting 20-30 fps when i typically have at least 50 on near-max settings except supersampling.
geforce gtx 650ti boost
intel 4670k
8gb ram
windows 8.1
even though they left with 2+ minutes left in the game, and the game should have counted as a forfeit by that point, no?
It’s not even the leagues. It’s the fact that, if you want to be successful in solo, you need to either play Bunker Mes, Condi Rev, or Tempest. Playing either of my two favorite classes is basically saying, “Yeah i dont expect to ever win a match up.”
there are always classes that fall out of meta. Necro was useless once upon a time, eles, mesmers too. hell, rangers were out of meta for 2.5 years.
once i gave in and played the elite specs, figuring I’d rather have pips than self-respect, i started to enjoy it a lot more. Helluva lot more than playing non-elite specs.
And always more than I had arenaing in WoW.
You don’t know me, you don’t know my life.
Noticed that from progressing amber=>emerald didn’t progress this as the achievement seems to hint that I would have. Anyone in a higher, non-pleb division confirm?
i used a GSHam warr maurader/durability, was fun though not the most solid build i’ve ever run, I died rarely w/ GS mobility.
I also did solider rifle engi which was pretty successful.
I’ve heard DD cele ele is also moderately viable, though haven’t tried it yet.
I also played my kitten off doing 5 wins as a maurader power ranger. Amazingly, it was a 5game winstreak iirc, but that’s probably a fluke. EDIT: And i got some serious dramasalt from my teammates to class switch before games.
