I’ll will say this, the drop rate has been fixed as far I am concerned.
I ran several events, killed a lot of things and felt I was rewarded as normal.
I got 4 rares, a ton of green and blues from Dragons, not to mention all the G&Bs from normal critters, I even got a rare from a shelk that started a fight with me. That is 5 rares tonight along with the B&G loot, all told I made a bit over 2 gold and when i added my harvesting loot I was close to 4 gold.As far as I am concerned, this is a resolved issue and I am satisfied it was an honest mistake.
My thanks to Anet for the fix and all of you folks for adding your concerns.
I’m out of here, got things to kill and loot to bank.
30+ people complaining and one says it works. Personally I tend to say otherwise. Regardless of this, still no official response about this. I’ll keep bumping this until someone actually decides to not ignore paying customers.
This is at least so far a decent thread where people are ASKING if it’s a bug or not. That at least should make someone who knows more about it post.

@gamingtito.4709 Despite some questionable decisions being made by ANet regarding this game (from which most of the complaints arise), it is worth playing and overall it will give you a nice experience. So stick with it but my advice would be to try not to put any real money into it.
From a dev’s perspective (not for ANet so don’t lynch me) I somewhat disagree with what it’s said above. Indeed there is a problem with this game but the people to blame are not the developers. I’d rather blame the people who are a few levels above them in the hierarchy and who call the shots. You can’t really blame someone that implements what he/she’s told, buggy or not. So the devs no, but the management gets a +1 from me on this.
They’re called stealth nerfs for a reason. This is probably the third thread of this nature I saw since the last update. I’m not sure what happened to the other ones (died/deleted) but I’m fairly sure that this one will share the same fate. No one bothered to answer before and I’m fairly sure no one will answer this time either.
IMO the 25 batch of BL keys is such a lame attempt to sell useless stuff it’s actually sad. Why would anyone want to open more BL chests since aside from the RNG they have just normal drops now?
I’ve noticed a reduced drop rate from mobs in explorable and world bosses as well. Then again the dungeon drops and dungeon chests seem to be bumped like they said in the update notes. I don’t really think that the decreased drop rate was unintentional and honestly I feel like this game is leading us more and more to play the content that ANet wants us to play (cattle style). If anyone else can find a better explanation for the increased dungeons/decreased world drops I’d like to hear it.
I went from about 5-6h/day to about 1-2h. The fact that every single piece of new content they put in it’s insanely buggy and frustrating, the gem store is such a big money scam it’s not even funny (yeah I’ll just go buy the 25 BL keys for the modest price of 1500+ gems to drop more mystery tonics). I’ve finished my storyline, map completion, I got my gear, I’ve pretty much done every dungeon in the game, WvW, PvP and in 3 months I feel like I saw everything worth seeing in this game. Will I grind for a legendary or full ascended gear, probably not. And aside from that everything becomes kinda boring and repetitive.
I guess it depends on the definition of “fun”. I for one enjoy a bit more a proper story than mindless killing that I can do after this event as well. I’m not really seeing the fun in the Shores to be honest:“defend the beach”, “cut trees”, “gather eggs”, etc. Granted the jumping puzzles are fun, those are not part of the event.
Also what happened last night brings some major concerns about the finale. Are we gonna have the same thing happening and ANet coming to the forums and saying “There was a boss, we killed him, we got a chest. Have fun!”?
It’s mind boggling the fact that so many people reported this broken and yet the answers were a copy paste of “Events spawn with delay. Keep an eye on the kitten”. Way to take responsibility for a bunch of consecutive broken events…

After the weapons were readied, and the karka attack, Captain Magnus and others needed help bringing the battle to the karkas. You should have a piece of mail that helps.
You can also just go near the Sanctum Harbor Waypoint in Lion’s Arch. There is a transporter NPC near the boats/docks that will transport you to Southsun Cove.
Have fun!
And for us that were unlucky enough to be in an overflow that didn’t trigger the initial event, tough luck right? “Here’s the story, go talk to the NPC”.
and after all this you’re pretty much useless.
Backstabs aren’t useless.
Look at the build as well. No Hidden Killer, and all the traits are used for stealth increased duration, hp regeneration in stealth, and condition removal in stealth. This is not a BS build, this is a survivability build. BS with those traits and 49% (at best) crit chance is a prayer. Even on a crit I’d be surprised if it hits for more than 4k.
Yes proof of concept that leap finisher in smoke field gives you stealth. Good job, we knew that already. Aside from that I’m not seeing anything interesting. That thief has so little initiative left trough the 5min of mindless jumping that she’s pretty much useless.
[Edit:]
Quote from the reddit post: “This team knew has faced me before, and figured out how to catch me (spread out, follow my smoke trail, lay traps to locate me, and try to trick me into hitting them with a Heartseeker).”
I’d rather call this tread “Proof of concept that if people know what they’re doing, even something that seems overpowered is not really that hard to kill”.

I agree with OP. The amount of kitten going on on these forums really makes it hard to find any useful information.
@Pantheon.4230
Agreed. All that’s missing is a thread “Thiefs should be deleted as a class since they’re overpowered” and someone from ANet will probably read and think it’s a good idea (like they did with all of the nerfs so far).
Give it a break guys.
Costumes, if they look interesting enough maybe. BL keys probably never.

Exactly right, they kept the odds hidden, therefore increasing the profit they made off the suckers (myself included) who thought they werent just another cheating RNG japanese MMO company. This was wrong, horribly wrong.
Correct. Honestly I’ve been actually playing NCSoft games and never encountered anything like this from them (maybe except the Gameforge Aion crap they pulled which made me actually quit that game).
As for OP, yes you’re right, it was our choice, we were the suckers for trusting a game company. I’m disappointed with them, I still don’t agree with the method used, I still think it was disrespectful to the people who support them by spending money in this game but I guess it’s a lesson learned the hard way.

I want to give you even more money ArenaNet but you really have to make it worth my while. Why have the rates so low? It’s like you don’t want us to buy keys.
No, they do actually wanted you to buy keys. In my opinion this is purely taking advantage of what the GW1 players were used to. Event skins were not a pain in the kitten to get, they did require some effort, but at least they were obtainable. I expected (as probably most old GW1 players expected) to have a fairly decent drop rate from the chests not the joke that this was.
Did it work this time? Yes, they probably made quite a decent amount of money from this and most likely a fat CEO is extremely happy. I’m not sure this will work again next time. While I congratulate you on the good marketing skills, I find it disappointing that you had to stoop so low for this and show a total lack of respect for the people who choose to support you and buy this game. But I guess some people would do anything for an easy dollar.
This whole chest random drop thing for Halloween seems like big money scam to me. I’ve opened 12 chests and not even something useful from them, just the usual crap. Honestly I would have rather spend those 20$ on buying the skin from the gem shop. This basically makes people gambling real money if they really want a skin which in my opinion is not OK.
All and all I’m disappointed with the way ANet handled this whole thing. Being a GW1 player as well, before GW2 was released I had the impression that ANet was somehow different than all the money-hungry game companies. Turns out that in some regards you’re actually worse. This is gonna be the last $ you’ll ever see from me.
Thanks.
If this is bugged in the same way as the monthly survivor title then that might be the reason… Apparently changing maps, using waypoints, logging off (basically anything that triggers a map load) bugs it. Indeed it’s stupid and probably very easy to fix, it’s a shame you’ve pot so much work into it for nothing :|
@ Paranoid.9542 My mistake, you’re right with the crit
Glass cannon builds are just as the name says. The tradeoff is not nice. Also backstab doesn’t constantly crit, and personally I’ve never hit 15k (11k max – maybe I’m doing it wrong
). Even with the 15k, considering the setup it needs just for one hit, where you basically need to pray for a crit and the fact that if you don’t crit you can be extremely easily picked off after all the preparations, I’d say it’s ok.
I found it hard to fight against some condition builds, 100b warriors (you need to be quick to escape that and they’re hard to kill if built right) and rangers sometimes. Other than that can’t complain.
Leap Finisher. Sadly there are still people who spam it (terrible waste of initiative) and give it a bad name. I find Shadow Shot a nicer gap closer, unless you go D/D I guess, so I’d rather use that.
I have a feeling most people in this thread did not get the irony in the OP… Especially the ones who seem happy to insist that those nerfs should come, and argue about which one should come first.
I haven’t really played a PW build unless in Orr when it came in handy with multiple mobs. PvP wise I found a P/D venom share build to be a bit more effective than PW burst or even backstab. That being said the PW nerf doesn’t bother me too much.
As for the skills in the OP most of the people complaining don’t understand that they’re very situational.
- Haste has a long enough cooldown and as of now it’s mostly viable with unload. Other uses as well but in my opinion the cooldown makes up for it.
- Backstab I disagree with the “it’s possible once every minute”. If you’re willing to go D/P you can get invisible if you’re willing to spend some initiative. But it still makes it very costly. Yes it hits like a truck but if you see a thief going invisible and you’ll just park there waiting, you had it coming.
- Unload, dodge is the simplest answer to that. While a lot of classes have reflect projectiles this can backfire ugly if it’s not used right. Instead of complaining rather learn how to use your own skills. Also 900 range while most classes have at least one 1200 range spell. Enough said.
- Dagger storm – 1vs1 not really worth having as an elite anyway. The main use for this spell is PvE or maybe WvWvW. Bind + get out of range. God knows there are worse elites to worry about in this game.
- Basilisk venom – What surprises me about this spell is that people keep saying it’s an awesome setup for backstab and it’s overpowered. Let’s see…insanely long setup time, 1.5sec stun, and as of yesterday stun breakers work on it apparently. If a thief is good enough to go invisible and backstab you in 1.5 sec, while you can’t interrupt the preparation of Basilisk venom or break stun then I don’t see the spell as being overpowered.
All and all after playing a thief and warrior since launch I’m not seeing the thief as an overpowered class. Looking at my warrior, I have twice the HP, almost twice the toughness, and a lot more hitting power. As a thief I have to work a lot harder in order to get a kill (and no I’m not complaining)

Bugged for me as well. After the “‘clear beach of undead” part. Objective is completed and the story doesn’t advance.
What’s the point of asking what’s wrong with it since 5 days later is still in the same state? Aren’t you people receiving the bug reports?
Me too. Could we please have this fixed? 12 days since OP.
I suggest a new armor skin to go with the shortbow: http://imgur.com/hJigi
Since we’re getting unicorn bows that shoot rainbows might as well go all the way >.<
(edited by Piriel.5197)
Agreed, legendary unicorn bow that apparently shoots rainbows? Seriously please change that.
