I agree with many other people in the thread that the biggest balance problems right now are due to Runes of Strength and Air and Fire sigils and I don’t believe that thieves are too strong when compared to the top specs from other classes.

However I do think that thieves crowd out other zerker builds. It would be nice if thieves didn’t have such a massive advantage when fighting a zerker mesmer or something similar. How one would change thieves so that they are weaker against squishy specs while not nerfing them against hambow, nade engi, or the popular ele builds I have no clue.

I’ve only seen a turret engi a couple of times but it always ended with a warrior just wading into his defensive setup smashing everything.

If the engi is killing you with condis just switch to a condi necro alt. Then the engi turns into a free kill for you.

It is a very simple MMR based system. You start off at a certain MMR, probably around the middle. Your team has an MMR, and the enemy team has an MMR. Whoever wins gains MMR according to what the team MMRs said “should” have happened (equal MMR = 50% chance to win every game), and essentially your MMR is continuously changed with every game, trying to find that perfect number where every game you play in has an exactly 50% chance of you winning against a team of equal rating.

The reason some people get high so fast is that ANet has an MMR system that has very wide swings on wins/losses. In a game like LoL, you only gain or lose like 10 MMR (average MMR is around 1200 in that game), but here it seems like you can gain hundreds per game. So if you get a lucky win streak you can gain massive rating very quickly.

Thanks for the answer. So the guy in my initial post just went on a 6-8 game win streak. Seems kinda lame to me as that makes movement up and down the ladder far more susceptible to luck.

Right now there is a guy who is 1026/508 at rank 7, but rank 4 is a guy who is 8/4. 12 games seems like too small of a number to be that highly ranked to me. Can anyone explain to me how the system works?

Until Anet implements a way for me to save builds and switch at the click of a button I shouldn’t have to change builds just for one specific map. It’s a pain in the kitten going back and forth all the time.

Wouldn’t the boon strip from a necro be pretty good against the might stacking warriors? Wait for their condi immune to fall off and then load them up. Cleansing Ire wouldn’t be enough to keep all those condi’s off.

I’m getting minor skill lag in GW2 as well. The past three days it has been very noticeable . I never had lag until this week. At first I thought it was only in spvp but now I’m getting it out in the world too.

There is currently a bug with all NPC damage in PvP being higher than intended. We are shooting to get this fixed before the Tournament of Legends.

I knew it! Smokebomb for the mesmer downed state is hitting crazy hard too.

These are exactly the kinds of runes we need to counter the condi spam meta. Because of these runes, power builds are being looked at again as a means to neutralize the favor towards condi builds. You now see more GS warrirors, power engis, and power necros. It’s not the perfect solution, but it is a step.

normal situation. this is downed state skill. Phantasmal Rogue performs backstab or heartseeker i dont remember which one or maybe both. and yeah, it hits very hard.

Yeah but I remember that being a 3k or maybe 4k attack. Not 9.5k. And my combat log said that it was smokebomb lol.

The dude was full glass but I don’t ever remember mesmer illusions doing this much damage. I don’t play mesmer so anyone want to fill me in on what this guy was doing to hit this hard? I’m not running a glass cannon spec either.

The new trait unlocks are soulbound. So I already know it will cost me 120 gold + 800 skill points to unlock for my 8 characters.

Are the new runes, sigils and amulets account bound or or they soulbound too?

Basically, if they are account bound you after pay 31 gold. I have one of each class so if soulbound that’s 248 gold.

Big difference, so it would be good to know?

I just unlocked one of the amulets on my engineer and it was unlocked for my necro. I will edit my original post to reflect that. That makes this much more reasonable.

I would have to win ~475 games in a row just to earn enough gold for all my characters. That’s assuming I win every single one! Instead of playing the next 1000 games kitten I’m just not going to play.

If you decide you want to unlock it here’s a strategy you can use:

Step 1: Play the game. (Any mode/content you want!)
Step 2: Use the resources you’ve garnered from completing step 1 to purchase your new amulets/traits!

If step 1 doesn’t seem possible for you, then you don’t like gw2 and it doesn’t matter anyway.

Would you be fine if we started with one skill and had to unlock all the rest in pvp? Sounds to me like you think that would be an acceptable situation.

5 new traits: 15g + 100 skill points

I haven’t played gw2 for several months but I came back after hearing about the new patch. The only thing I did when I played before was pvp. I have 88g and 54 skill points on my main. I also have four other characters that I enjoy swapping to. If I want to unlock all skills, just to fight evenly with other players on all five characters, I would need 106g(I thought the gold cost was more at first) and 500 skill points. I can’t even unlock the skills in pve because my server isn’t running the events atm or my characters are too low level. Not happy right now Anet. Justin what the hell man! These costs aren’t at all reasonable!

honestly, it depends on players….i had matches where my team had 3 thieves and we lost really bad and then i had matches where we also had 3 thieves and we nuked those matches by decaping all day

I think that classes should have some weaknesses that can be exploited, and if there is 5 of one class on a team it should be easy to switch and take advantage of. I don’t feel like hambow warriors have such a weakness.

Thanks for the reply Evan! Good to know you guys already have something underway. And there were definitely some better ways to implement the normalized character models that you guys came up with. After reading the responses I’m partial to having the option so that only you see normalized models. Kind of a mix between my original suggestion and Sunshine’s idea. I don’t know if that is feasible but it would be nice.

“A really fun way to do it would be to give a gold reward based on your placement on the ladder.
eg. Split 1-100,101-500,501-1000,1001+ into seperate ‘divisions’. Higher divisions like 1-100 would earn 1G per win, 1001+ would win 10S.”

Hey Anet, add 25 silver to each tournament chest reward.

We pvpers constantly complain about not having a way to earn money and rewards that are usefully outside of the mists and you have said that you hope to address this. Placing money in the toury chests is a super easy way to do this. I personally average about four tpvp games an hour, and win only 50% of those games. 50 silver for an hours of play is not the most efficient way to farm gold. Aside from the initial influx of players who have saved up chests this shouldn’t hurt your economy very much. And if tons of players start playing tpvp to make gold that’s a good thing! We need more people in the pvp community. It can’t be abused in hotjoins like skyhammer glory farmers and it’s probably pretty easy to implement.

Another pvp improvement I think you guys could make would be to normalize character sizes in pvp. This wouldn’t be a quick and easy change, like adding silver to tourny chests, and it could kitten a lot of people off but I think it would help the game out overall. Lower the size of Char and Norns, increase the size of Asura. Humans should be the standard. All races should not be the same size, but in pvp they should be closer than they are currently. I also think it would be beneficial to lower the size of some of the larger nerco and ranger minions, pets, and spirits. Two of the biggest complaints I see on these forums are screen clutter and not being able to properly see casting animation. This should help both.

Now I can more easily pick out that Asura necromancer from his minions and interrupt his heal. Now when two Norn mesmers are on one point I can see where my ally is to drop my water fields, ect.

When you are in SPvP and come across a guild group of 3 giant norn mesmers that fill up your screen with illusions because you cannot possibly zoom out enough to properly target anything, that is not a learn-to-play issue.

No offense but you just have to learn how to play. Yes i know it’s the age old phrase, however you cannot complain about the Mesmer at this point.

I don’t want to make assumptions, but I feel as if you’ve been playing for only a few months judging by your posts. I don’t know why you are saying Mesmers are frustrating to face “at the moment”

There has been nothing, and i mean NOTHING that the devs has done to truly buff the mesmer in many months. Go and read the past patch notes and you’ll see that between the elementalist and the Mesmer, those two classes have had several nerfs.

Oh and if you think confusion is a problem now, then you’d have a fit if you had played the game in the first few months.

They are frustrating to fight because I almost never had to deal with this many before. And I never called them overpowered. Actually read my post. Fighting 3 mesmers on a point is insanely annoying, because of the mechanics of the class and this game, not because they one shot me or some bs like that.

I would like a ready button. Queue pops and if you don’t hit ready you are just kicked out of the queue. Also there should be an option to report afk players, and players that leave matches part way should have harsher penalties. It happens far too often imo. Make it so that they cant queue up again for 2 hours or so.

There was a single Mesmer in the last tournament…it’s pratically not viable in tpvp and you are frustated for targeting one, in a game dominated by aoe damages?

So if they are frustrating to fight and non viable wouldn’t that make them a good target for a rework? And part of my frustration comes from confusion, which I know other classes have but most of the time I see it coming from Mesmers.

Yeah. Hopefully the new patch will help with that. But I don’t think it will make it that much better. I still don’t like the idea of being punished for using my skills.

I find mesmers incredibly frustrating to fight against at the moment. I don’t think they are overpowered, they are pretty squishy and die if I can catch them in a net. But I do know that after fighting a team with three mesmers on it I just want to stop playing pvp for the night. Being unable to use my skills, taking damage for using my skills, and constantly losing my target and having to try and retarget among a myriad of clones is just not fun. It feels like I am fighting the mechanics of the game and the class instead of the person behind the keyboard. If anet would tone down the number of clones/phantasms and reduce the skill lockouts/confusion and buff mesmers in other ways I would enjoy the game a lot more.
