Matchmaking thought you were good enough to face a top tier player…..or three. Matchmaking believes in you, about time you believed in yourself.

Lol that made me laugh. I actually wasn’t too worried at the start of the match. Buuuuuut it quickly became apparent that we were outclassed as you can see by the result.

They simultaneously have the better players AND have 3 man stack. Why was this game allowed to start? These games are so frustrating and I don’t see how matchmaking should have come up with these teams.

Balance Changes for HoT patch.

Hey guys, here’s some balance changes that I would like to see for the HoT release patch. This is my opinion based on what I saw during the BWE 3 and the classes I generally play. I tried not to make any of the changes too crazy so that they could actually be implemented by or close to the HoT release.

Elementalist:

Diamond Skin: Reduces the duration of all conditions applied to you by 50% while above 75% health.
Reason: Similar changes have been suggested before. Completely countering a condition build with one trait is absurd. This still gives a significant advantage to the ele taking the trait.

Engineer:

Healing Turret: Increase the cooldown by 5 seconds. Cleansing burst remains unchanged.
Reason: Healing Turret outclasses the other engineer healing skills. Despite HGH being meta Healing Turret is taken over Elixer H due to the innate condi removal and water field.

Elixir H: Cooldown Reduced by 3 seconds. Duration of Might, Swiftness, and Regen are reduced by 2/3rds but all are now applied.
Reason: Protection is incredibly strong but regen and swiftness are inconsequential. This change is an attempt to make Elixir H more consistent. It doesn’t remove condis unless traited or produce a water field so I thought the cooldown reduction was reasonable.

Super Elixir(Elixir Gun 5) and Healing Mist(Elixir Gun Toolbelt): Renamed to something else, no longer count as elixirs.
Reason: Engineers are stacking a bit too much might and have a bit too much free condi cleanse. Yes the kit is called Elixir Gun but this will force engineers to take actual elixir utilities if they want the might stacking and condi cleanse that HGH offers.

Guardian:

Glacial Heart in the Virtues trait line swapped with Blinding Jeopardy in Zeal.
Reason: Absolute Resolution is basically mandatory in any guardian build. I don’t have a fix to make AR not mandatory but this may at least allow guards a little more freedom to take the hammer.

Expeditious Spirit: In addition to its current effect; Spirit weapons take 70% reduced aoe damage.
Reason: Spirit weapons are pretty weak at the moment. While this probably won’t make spirit weapons suddenly viable at least they won’t instantly die in team fights and to random aoe skills.

Shield of the Avenger: Shield of the Avenger will now follow the guardian when creating the dome shield instead of rooting itself in place.
Reason: I’ve seen this skill used once in over 3k matches played. Clearly it needs something.

Fragments of Faith and Light’s Judgement: Cooldown reduced to from 45 seconds to 40 seconds.
Reason: These traps are strong and have unique effects but currently aren’t better than shouts or meditations. A small cd buff might get them there.

Procession of Blades: Whirl duration increased by 50%.
Reason: The damage is currently too low. This ups the damage while also giving enemies time to respond and avoid part of that damage increase.

Purification: All allies the light passes through are also healed.
Reason: Currently this trap feels pretty bad. Despite the high heal amount and blind, relying on an enemy to proc your heal is very unreliable and can be frustrating. This is my attempt to turn the trap into a heal for a guardian looking to team fight. This could be too strong, hard for me to say.

Revenant:

Overview: Based on what I have seen from BWE 3 Revenants spec’d for damage are doing too much damage. Many of these changes are an attempt to tone them down.

Infuse Light(Dragon Stance Heal): Add a ½ second cast time. Add a more obvious animation when Infuse Light is cast.
Reason: This ability is often used when the Revenant is being focused not only removing all pressure but usually resulting in a full heal. It is difficult to see when the ability has been cast so you know to stop attacking the Revenant. The skill simply better than the untraited warrior’s Defiant Stance. Adding a cast time will make the Revenant still vulnerable to CC and give enemies a chance to stop attacking when the skill is used.

Preparation Thrust and chain(Sword 1): Reduce the damage by X%.

Unrelenting Assault(Sword 3): Reduce the damage by X% when striking the same target.
Reason: This ability does high damage, follows its target, and provides evade frames for the Revenant. The damage is is fine when the Revenant hits multiple targets but the ability becomes overwhelming in 1v1 encounters. To counteract this make targets that have already been struck by the skill take reduced damage on each successive strike.

Coalescence of Ruin(Hammer 2): Reduce damage by X%.

Drop the Hammer(Hammer 5): Increase the cooldown to 25 seconds or increase the energy cost significantly.
Reason: This ability has too much utility and damage for such a low cooldown. A high damage, aoe knockdown, and blast finisher on a 15 second cooldown is a bit much.

Surge of the Mists(Staff 5): Increase the cooldown by 5 seconds and reduce the damage by X%.
Reason: Similar to the hammer this skill has too much packed into it, very high damage, knockbacks, and evade frames, to warrant the low cooldown.

Scrappers, Reapers, and Chronomancers also seemed very strong to me but I didn’t get the chance to play with them at all. Tell me what you guys think of my changes and add some of your own!

I don’t see why Anet puts on a world tournament but doesn’t throw out a balance patch once a month. It’s like they want it to be an esport but refuse to put in the work.

Don’t expect any changes until HOT. Also the guys who work on balance are not the guy who work on the world tournament. The WTS is done mainly by marketing while balance has a very specific and important task to make the specialization $$ inducing.

I wish they’d drop some of the marketing guys and hire more for the balance team. If they put more work into pvp it might not be such and insignificant portion of the playerbase.

Revenant Downed State 1 Skill is too Strong

The slow that it provides is nuts makes their 1 skill as strong as most professions 2 or 3 skill in the downed state. It should be changed to chill or some other condition.

Ive been having similar skill lag. My ping also jumps around between 80 and 700 ms. This only happens in GW2. I’m fine when I play any other game.

Anet doesn’t balance teams with TS, Vent, or Skype in mind. This gives really kittenty match making when some teams use TS to roflstomp solo queue players and some teams use no communication at all and lose to solo queue players because they are also basically queuing solo. The solution is to take teams out of solo queue but Anet doesn’t want to do that for some reason. Maybe the population is too low.

I was on red team and we were all solo queue players. They had a four stack.

You can right click on names before the match starts and if it shows you the option to “Join Party” then you know they are in a group. Easy way to find out if you are matched against or with a premade.

I strongly agree with most of what Nova said. However:

“Gear Shield – Cannot move while casting.” -Disagree. Gear Shield is incredibly strong to make up for Engi’s terrible condi cleanse. If Gear Shield takes a nerf more condi cleanse will need to be baked into an engineer’s kit, but this weakness to conditions helps make the professions diverse and interesting.

“Necromancers – Help them get an identity before the Revenant replaces them entirely.” -Disagree. Power necros and terrormancers seems to have solid identity to me. Not sure where you are going with this.

“Engineers – Make viable without Tool Kit and Grenades.” Emphasizing this. I dislike turrets so I’m ignoring that build for the moment. The tool kit and grenade kit totally overshadow bomb kit, flamethrower, and many of the elixirs. I think a balance pass is needed to try and bring the strength of utility skills in line with one another.

6:43 PM Mountain Time, 2-5-2015, Battle for Khylo was when the match ended in unranked on NA.

I was playing on this account queuing solo. We lost 500-180 or something like that. Two players from the other team were at least from the same guild, I don’t know about the rest. My team had had THREE players that would all stand together on one point to cap it. Felt like a huge mismatch. The game before this one I lost pretty freaking hard too but I don’t remember the details.

Just played a game 1 minute ago. It was pugs vs a premade and we were completely rofl-stomped. You need to seriously increase the mmr rating of a group of five if they are a premade. Pugs have no chance at the moment. Or just match premades against premades, that would be fine too.

My three matches before the most recent one were also very one-sided losses but I didn’t check to see if the enemy was a group of five.

Seriously, condition burst is a concept that should not exist. You can be very tanky and have lots of DPS as a cond semi bunker class. You need power precision and ferocity to do good power damage, but seriously, you only need condition damage to condition damage. how fair? Condition should be a Damage over time concept: you have cleanse, ok you are safe for now, you dont have cleanse??? take damage!! But not this way that someone that have lots of vit and toughness can hit you for a huge amout in seconds!! oh wait!! And it AoE, i repeat, AoE!!!! What is happening to this game

That is not true. Play warrior or ele and give yourself 20 stacks of might. Now you are tanky and do good power damage.

Wind I am glad you are enjoying pvp! I think it is gw2’s best feature by far. I’d say that after you know what your skills do and a basic rotation ditch the hot joins. You will learn much faster playing with stable teams that are focusing on objectives over kills, even if you get smashed the first couple games.

Also I thought your mesmer clone comment was funny. I dunno why these guys are ragging on you so hard for it.

I enjoy it when I’m fighting a turret engi on point A, cluttering up my screen with 6 turrets and explosions, and a stealthed thief comes along and scorpion wires me for an instant kill. I usually have to stop playing because I have way too much fun when that happens.

I have two friends who bought the game and never made it to level cap.

-One said it wasn’t as good as WoW and went back to playing that.

-One thought the leveling process would be similar to guild wars 1 and didn’t want to spend the time to level.

Both had clearly played mmos before so maybe this update wasn’t targeted at them despite them not reaching level cap. However I can say that this update would have made them less likely to reach 80 for whatever that is worth.

I already do this. It’s annoying when I don’t play with my guildies and I am matched up against a premade. I was 100% expecting this feature pack to come with changes to skyhammer. The response to Blu’s question was so disappointing. They don’t even have any concrete changes in place and they think that most people like the map. Anet is so out of touch with their players. I don’t even understand how it becomes this bad.

The range nerf to turret knockback was totally warranted. Turret engi is such a stupid spec to fight if you don’t have access to lots of stability.

It´s pretty much the same for all zerker builds vs thieves, but other classes don´t rely on zerker amulet like mesmer.

I really dislike the new trait system. It feels like it goes against the “play how you want to” philosophy that Anet said gw2 has. Now if I want to level through WvW or PvP I have to unlock traits with gold. How lame.

On a related note:

I was invited to a team sPvP earlier and we faced a 4 turret engi + necro on the enemy team. As expected when put up a fight but eventually lost. See attachment for more info.

So here I’ll ask a “l2p” question:

How can one beat that comp? Or was the match already lost?
