A Question, why are elixirs RNG?

You are forgetting these are Toolbelt skills. A Second skill that no one else has, the drawback? RNG. Having TWO Elixer class skills per slot would be way OP. Which is where part of your build choice comes in: do I want the RNG of this elixer, OR would I rather have another attack from a kit or turret?

You still have the main skill which is 100% predictable. As an aside you ALSO get an RNG, which with traits like 409 also have predictable outcomes. I toss elixer’s for 409, and get RNG as a side effect. Adapt to the class, don’t expect the class to adapt to you.

RNG is basically in the Engineer’s in-game description. Some people like it, some people don’t. Some people find warriors bland and boring. It’s all in how you play the class. Which is why every class has three main lines of skills. Some people hate Banners, some people run their warriors purely to use banners.

But I was answering the OP: RNG is there for you to ‘see what you get’ and then utilize it. NOT the other way around.

I have no problem if people want to petition for extended duration on Tossed Elixers. That falls in the realm of a Balance change, which I expect they would listen to and consider. It may even already be on the table, as they have already claimed to be limiting the number of changes per class each update, in spite of how many changes they may have planned.

DESIGN changes, on the other hand, are likely to be ignored out of hand, for numerous reasons.

Exactly. Other classes do not get “toolbelt” skills. We have our base elixir abilities, and the toolbelts, or thrown effects are just icing on the cake. The side-affects of a thrown elixir offering RNG buffs is balanced in it’s current state. Taking away the RNG on the toolbelt skill would result in Elixirs becoming too good of a choice for skill spots – which will likely result in a nerf. :P

I am in no way against criticism, as long as it’s constructive. It’s far too common for people to “complain” about an issue in a manner that’s not productive at all. “It’s not what you say, but how you say it,” applies. Perhaps I was feeling particularly fanboi defensive after having spent some time in the Engineer forums. :P There are indeed issues that can be addressed. Particularly the culling, WvW queue times, Engineers, etc.

I am still rather saddened about the engineer thing. I started giving stuff away Friday and Saturday and stripped my engineer of his bags and gold. The engineer was my favorite class (I have a thief, ranger, warrior, ele and guardian at 80 as well). I pretty much gave up and went back to the 360.

I however can’t say this game has not been fun for me. I have over 1000 hours played, to say I was not entertained would be disingenuous. I still log on for an hour to talk to my friends and do a dungeon on my ele or warrior, but going forward I think I need a break.

Is there something going on with engineers? I was gonna roll one, maybe I shouldn’t now?

I wasn’t referencing the most recent fix – although that seems to be what’s bothering most.

The issue with Engineers is a lack of polish. That jack of all trades thing, and definitely not a master of any. Some builds are fun, like Tankcat, or Static Discharge – but in it’s current state, Engineer will never be in the spotlight like Warriors, Thieves, Mesmers and Guardians.

Someone posts a positive thread and the doom mongers jump right in. You lot are delusional.

LOL. Quote for truth!

Don’t like the way it’s done? GTFO!

^ This. Just quit and come back when these terrible and awful game-breaking issues are fixed. Your negativity is not productive.

Actually, comments that provide no context of what specifically Anet did a good/bad job with as well as ad hominem comments are not productive… Like the one I’m currently engaging in.

I did like some of the profession tweaks (those who got them) and some fixes… I think it’s fair to say that we shouldn’t expect any major sweeping changes until the big patch update coming in Jan/Feb.

This.

If you had every comment that was positive that would stunt growth or fixes for the game. People should voice out their displeasure with certain aspects of the game, but they should do it in a constructive manner. It does not help when all people do is fan boy faun at the game when there are obvious issues that should be mentioned. The delusional ones are the ones that think everything is perfect when it is not.

Make it so that Mortar does more damage vs structures, like walls, doors and siege. It’d be so perfect on top of a wall, nuking a ram.

moron

Says the guy who can barely structure a legible sentence.

i am talking about Elixir S Stealth or stability

I believe this ability is meant to assist with reviving or stomping. Both effects granted by this elixir are useful in that regard.

I am Talking pvp not your random crap standing PVE brainless writer

I’m talking about PvP as well. Did you just call me a “brainless writer”?

Just Let the crap kitten kitten give Stealth OR stability
The elite Elixir Am i gonna get the stupid jaggernaut or Tornado

Stealth and Stability when reviving and stomping ultimately help to achieve the same goal. Don’t use Elixir X in PvP, it feels like it’s more of a PvE skill. Supply Crate (or Mortar for WvW at times) are your best bet.

or an elite slot w0000ps i got the jaggeraaut leave the foorm faast waste of spot

See first comment.

they just put random crap without testing or anything

Oh do they?

as long as Engineer has several kits and can switch without cooldown who gives a kitten about damage and if it works or not we got many buttons to click?

I’m not even sure I understand what you’re trying to say. Are you now complaining about the number of buttons you need to click?

You can always pick the leader that you know is good, right click and join squad. Then you won’t see other Commander icons.

I’ll agree that Thieves and Mesmers feel like they need to be toned down. Warriors and Guardians , at least in PvP don’t usually prove to be that much of a problem.

All of your posts are just sarcastic post-fix/nerf QQ. The fact is, grenades were broken. The weapon sigil fix would have made grenades even more broken. The grenade “nerf” came with a decent fix that Engineers have been crying about since day 1.

As for Elixirs, and RNG – as I said, I feel like it’s necessary. Giving them random attributes is what allows us to have such a wide variety of effects available. If Elixir B were to always give all of the listed buffs when thrown, it’d be ridiculous. Between the thrown/self elixir, your uptime on B’s effects would be too much. So, to balance this, it’s CD would end up being changed, or even worse, some of the effects from the thrown elixir would be removed.

If they were to remove the random aspect of thrown elixirs, then it’s likely that we’d just flat out lose access to some of the effects that some of them provide. I like them the way they are, and I don’t seem to struggle with them at all in WvW or sPvP.

Don’t listen to anyone.
If you like the profession – go for it.
Things will change anyway. And the balance of power will never be the same.

This. In MMOs, it’s completely normal for a “gimped” class to become overpowered overnight with minor tweaks, major changes, or even just the discovery of some synergy in a little used spec.

Don’t listen to the naysayers.

My first character was a Warrior. By level 40 I was bored, and by level 60 I couldn’t bear it anymore.

Rolled Engineer and zoomed to 80 because it was way more fun.

Depending on spec and setup, my Engi can tank, OT/support heal, or DPS in instances just fine. Not sure why everyone seems to be struggling, but I have not experienced any problems.

In PvP, TANKCAT and Static Discharge builds are super fun, and I recommend trying them in sPvP and WvW.

In short, it’s not as bad as people say it is. It just seems that way because complainers have a louder voice than the complacent. :P

Eles, thieves, mesmers, and warriors are too hard to execute. It takes too long, and it’s stupid that they’re so quickly able to use their stealth/get away abilities. I added Warriors because of Vengeance, or whatever it’s called.

Engineer down state is a joke, and I’m surprised it’s been this way for so long. The skills themselves are okay, although 2 is pretty stupid. I’d say lessen the CD on 3, and/or change 2 to a smoke cloud, or slippery oil or something.

To the OP, there were and are a lot of good (PvP) engineers that do not use the grenade build.

Actually I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that good (PvP) engineers don’t use the grenade build. You occasionally see some throwing them at their feet, but they always keep it as utility and vary it up afterwards (alternatively it is more common to see bomb kits being used).

But then grenades were gaining popularity as a PvE build for leveling and dungeons, especially with the vulnerability stacks. They can still be used for vulnerability support, but they’re no longer intrinsicly better than other mediocre builds; I am finding very little difference in performance between grenade-rifle and a much easier to play (but still mediocre performance) might-stacking juggernaut build, which makes me somewhat sad.

Wow, thanks I must be good since I detest using grenades and I do think I’m good.

I’ve watched teldoo on twitch, hes damn good and he doesn’t use grenades.

Teldoo is a good person to watch. Look up Tankcat and Static Discharge builds as well

OP – outside of leveling, I hardly used grenades at all. They’re novel at first, but your other kits are more effective/interesting.

For PvP and WvW, nades are, and were, worthless. They might be useful if you’re sieging a keep, but even then I wouldn’t really bother.

For PvE, like dungeons and stuff, I’ve found bombs to be better than nades – if you’re looking for nuke and utility. Personally, I enjoyed an elixir gun bunker and healer build – plus you can spec to make your bombs heal. It’s a small heal, but if you’re spamming bombs, you may as well give them the heal. :P

So far, the best builds I’ve played have been bunker (TANKCAT!!!) and Static Discharge. I’ve been pvping/wvwing since the “nerf” and I have had zero problems. The sigil fix is a big buff, so play with that a little.

I like these ideas!

I was also thinking it may be cool to have Engy’s use the torch in their main hand as opposed to their off hand. Coupled with a shield, it would be an interesting style of play.

I don’t believe you can edit chat colors yet, which is unfortunate. Breaking away from the norm (Party = Cyan, Guild = Lime, etc) makes it really hard to read for me, and I’d really just prefer that we have the option to change our chat channel colors.

Also, why is there no officer chat? o_o
