Gossamer farming?

in Crafting

Posted by: Pridedemon.3041

Pridedemon.3041

Ok so we have got weapon making crafts had their cap moved to 500 to be able to make ascended weapons. That brought lots of changes to economy, an ancient wood log which used to sell before for 4 silver is now selling for 30s each and they are the main bottleneck for the astounding amount of exotics everyone needs to craft in order to get to 500 in every 3 of weapon crafting professions. Orichalcum also went up in price but the jump wasn’t as much as ancient wood log. Now here is the thing, if you have many 80 lvl characters then you can mine/log mats yourself, there are websites that help you locate nodes and in a week I was finally able to get to 500 and get my ascended claymore.

Now Anet has made it clear that there will be another update that will also allow us to make ascended armor which means Armorsmithing/Leatherworking/Tailoring being also getting a 500 skill cap and if we have learned anything from the recent update we will need to make 25-30 exotics to get from 400-500. Seeing as we are almost to the final quarter of year that update isn’t looking much far away.

It is safe to assume that the new bottleneck will be Gossamer and it will be far worse then wood as it is needed to craft insignias, it is also needed for armor parts in all 3 crafts while tailors need a lot more of those. But here is the thingy, there is no sure way to farm gossamer, there are no nodes for them, no enemy drops them, the only way you got is to salvage lvl 70-80 cloth armor or get them from various bags rarely. The price of gossamer has already gone up and I won’t be surprised if it reaches a lot worse then ancient wood log.

Does anyone know a good way to farm these that isn’t rng dependent? I am planning to get 8-10 stacks of scrap before that update is announced

Superior sigil of air vs fire

in Warrior

Posted by: Pridedemon.3041

Pridedemon.3041

So what do you guys think is better for fractals? I run fractals 40+ lvl and from what I understand sigil of air does more single target damage then sigil of fire, tradeoff is that sigil of air is single target and sigil of fire is AoE. However there aren’t many trash and even if there are I still think single target dps is better because over lvl 40 bosses have very high amount of HP.

Another thing is that I used to run with lots of signets and signet mastery trait but now I run without any signets at all so my crit chance isn’t that high, 57% unbuffed and 77% with fury (I am full ascended) with 30 points in Arms. Is it even worthwhile to use these sigils instead of superior sigil of force? I run with ruby orbs.

D/D or S/D with Celestial Build

>The point here is that elementalist is perhaps the best

this is how anet sees ele but in real life – you are average/bad at everything

>so I am also gearing her in similar armor,

celestial is again average/bad at everything so mixing ele with celestial….yes… its not going to end well

Compared to warrior ele has -800 vit and -300 tou so overal ele has -1100 stats points. To compensate this warrior gets overall better skills on lower cooldowns and better traits ;D

From what I understand ele’s are geared a lot more towards pvp because they have far more utility and survivability skills then warrior. Coming from WoW who main’ed a mage over 5 years since Burning Crusade I thought elementalist will be similar to a mage being the best dps and it turned out wrong. And because I never do pvp to which ele’s are more geared to I rerolled warrior.
Anyway thanks for asking my questions, peace out.

Well I already have a full berserker warrior in max ascended and guard in soldiers/cleric mixed. Basically I have 4 80’s rightnow and they are geared:
Warrior: Full berserker (DPS)
Guard: Soldiers/Cleric (Bunker)
Ranger: Rampager (Condition heavy)
Ele: Celestial

The point here is that elementalist is perhaps the best jack of all trades skill wise so I am also gearing her in similar armor, I do like to play my ele but I don’t bring it for serious play like high level fractals or anything.

Anyway you didn’t answer my main question, what you suggest for weapon choice? D/D or S/D?

Pridedemon.3041

Hey guys, Ele was my first char that I made & lvl’ed to 80 but I rerolled to warrior which shouldn’t come as a surprise. Anyway to this point I have always run with staff and I have tried various builds and armors on my ele but found nothing very attractive. I ran full rampager/earth condition build, a mix breed and even full berserker too but right now I am gearing my ele into full celestial.

I already have her equipped in all 6 pieces of celestial armor and both ascended celestial rings that I had sitting in my bank. Also I have already made 1 dagger and got enough mats for making another so I was thinking should I go another dagger for D/D build or make a scepter?

Before anyone asks or suggests something, lemme say I NEVER DO ANY PVP/WvW, the only time I do any wvw is to complete my monthly and then I get the hell out asap. I am thinking of going 6 superior rune of the traveler for armor (divinity is just too much gold for a character that I hardly play more then gathering nodes or few dungeons a month).

Suggestions or even trait build are welcome.

400-500 Only rich apply?

Pridedemon.3041

It costs 190g to go from 400 to 500 weaponsmith.
It costs 203g to go from 400 to 500 huntsman.
It costs 215g to go from 400 to 500 artificer.

http://gw2crafts.net/

That’s the cheapeast way to do it.

Actually it is not. The time gated way after 450 is the cheapest way. That assumes you want it and want it now.

Time gated mats is the cheapest way but it takes more time

Deldrimor Steel Ingot and SpiritWood Plank are currently selling at about 1-4 Gold profit.

You are wrong, first you can only refine mats upto 470, after that you need to make like 10 more exotics to reach 500, second it takes extremely large amount of those refinements to level. I made 1 ingot, 1 plank, 1 bloodstone brick and 1 emyreal star and reached 452 (and in doing so I burned through all of my mats in bank and about 40g before finally stopping), so at this rate you need to make about 40-50 of those which again means a lot of grind.

So in my 2-3 hours of daily game time I have a choice, either do my daily, a 40+ fotm daily and a usual arah/coe run or login with 4 of my characters mindless running around Orr gathering mats for ascended. Let me ask which option seems more fun to you? Ofcourse I choose first option but then again I know in 5-10 days I would be gated out of the top notch content (Fotm 50+ which legendary wielders are already doing and posting on gw2lfg) which before this update I was already doing while also enjoying the game.

400-500 Only rich apply?

in Crafting

Posted by: Pridedemon.3041

Pridedemon.3041

I think its extremely poor game design to let the rich players have the best possible item the day of content patch release.
Lets be honest, if you have tons of gold you can get your craft to 500 in day 1 and then you can also make your weapon the same day if you buy the ingots and planks from TP which are time gated but trade able. The only problem is crystal which can easily be farmed in 1 day or 2 days most.

IMO best gear should come with content progression. Seriously, nothing you need to do for getting ascended weapon is skill related, its either extreme luck or mindless grinding like cutting down trees over 5+ characters a day or killing some champions over and over. And whats the point of getting the better gear when the content is almost the same as it was at the day of its release? The only difference it makes is that Fractals 40-49 are now face roll and 50+ are available for average players which were already doable before with some tricks.

This is extremely poor design, make some new harder dungeons first which are much more challenging and drops/give ascended weapons rather then letting us “Buy” ascended weapons and forcing more casual players into buying Gems.

I am not a casual player, I play 2-3 hours daily sometimes more and my current best personal lvl on fractals is 45 but I never farm for gold. I did all of scarlet maps only once for achievement and never went back to do that again. Seriously whats the point in it? I would rather play some other game or go out with my friends and watch a movie rather then sitting killing champions all day with possibly less then 10 frames because of 300+ players there. I have about 200g at me rightnow but I am sure as hell not spending it all to level 1 profession from 400-500. This is for people who either have 1k+ gold, have no problem buying gems and then convert them to gold or sit here all day farming mats/champions.

Giving extremely rich players some cosmetic status symbols like Swift Spectral Tiger mount in WoW is perfectly fine but giving them edge gearwise over others is not.

Forgive my long post, end of rant.

Rampager gear any good for rangers?

in Ranger

Posted by: Pridedemon.3041

Pridedemon.3041

Hey guys, I just dinged 80 on my ranger finally and was thinking of gearing/build options. For leveling I went all the way berserker from 1-80 (although I leveled her mostly from crafting, 5 professions maxed). I felt that ranger dps is well nothing great to say the least.

I have a 80 warrior full berserker and 80 ele full celestial so I was thinking of rampager gear for my ranger (power/precision/condition). Well tbh I only play my warrior for any serious stuff like high level fractals and dungeons.

I did some WvW on my ranger and might do so a bit more in the future but I never did and never will any pvp so please don’t suggest me bunker builds. I want a build which has good damage and adequate survivability for like solo’ing some champions with pet tanking.

Any suggestions?

As far as i know Cobalt’s glow is permanent but only when you draw it out ( sorry bad english)

I’ve heard its the most common champion drop ( from all the other nice skins) but common doesnt mean its easy to get lol

Also when you preview Cobalt from the tp you have 3 options

- Stowed
-wielded
- weapon only

Tick “wielded” check box and you will see the glow

Thanks for the info, its fairly cheap on TP, 25g atm so I guess I will go for that atleast until I get make or buy Foefire’s Essence

I don’t like Corrupted Avenger, does anyone know if the Glow on Cobalt is permanent or does it only glow in dark like the Ascalonian GS? Wiki doesn’t say anything about it and display from trading post shows a non-glowing sword.

Warrior or Guardian in detail

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Pridedemon.3041

Pridedemon.3041

They both are highly wanted in PVE, be it dungeon or fractal. You will never get turned down if you are bringing one, warriors are more wanted in a sense that you can stack them in a dungeon group. A group of 4 warriors and 1 guard is far better then a group of 4 guards and 1 warrior.

Although warrior can also be a tanky build but 99% of the time, if you are warrior then you are considered as a dps. Similarly, guards are expected to be more defense oriented in dungeons then to run with berserker (damage) gear.

But overall warrior is much better IMO because it has the highest dps of all professions no question asked. You can level a warrior really fast, its great for soloing and farming for obvious reasons, you can complete 100% map completion on warrior almost twice as fast as other professions etc.

You can still use AR infusion on utility slot. And at 20-29 15 AR is the minimum to survive any agony without healing.

Really? That’s great then, I thought you could only use those laurel infusions for utility slot. And we can also replace infusions like other upgrades right?

And getting ascended equipment isn’t easy, I would be able to buy 1 accessory in the next 6-7 days but then again its another month of waiting.
Rightnow I have 15 AR with +5 on 2 rings and +5 on backpiece. I went with utility slot for neck, yeah I know my bad…….

So I have recently started doing fractals and I am at level 11, that’s like 10 fractals done so far and I have got only 1 Vials of condensed Mists essence dropped for me so far.

Does anyone know their drop rate? At this rate I would roughly need to do 50+ fractals at over level 20 before I can make my first infused ring. Just did my first level 10 fractals today and bam, had the zerk ring dropped for me from the daily chest.

I was running almost all of the fractals with 0 magic find, now I hate running non-farm dungeons with MF gear but superior rune of the pirate is looking very tempting rightnow.

Chantry of Secrets, via Bloodtide Coast. You have to enter it and get the POI inside.

Assuming that’s the only one you could be missing. Divinity’s Reach doesn’t show right on the big map so the mouseover isn’t useful, so it’s worth checking that one again too I guess.

Yes it was chantry of secrets, many thanks for the quick reply

I have all POI’s in eternal battlegrounds and all 3 borderlands, I am 100% complete in all locations, just rechecked all zone’s but I am not missing any POI, I have completed the personal story so I have claw island POI too, don’t know if I missed any there but I can’t seem to go back to claw island now since it’s a story related instanced area.

Does anyone know of anyother POI I might be missing, perhaps that’s not needed for area 100% completion like inside an instanced JP?

I am seriously lost here and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am definitely going to buy berserker neck (power/precision/crit damage) and I want to ask that if there is a reason why not to buy an amulet which has a utility slot? I am looking at defensive and offensive infusions and they are well bad to say the least. +3 toughness infusion for 5 laurels, are you kidding me? On the other hand utility infusions cost 20 laurels but they are atleast decent like +20% increased gold or magic find etc.

So is there something else to know about these ascended jewelery that I need to know or just go with utility slot?

Dragon coffers worth investing gold in?

Pridedemon.3041

If you were so good at making gold in WoW, figuring out whether or not dragon coffers are a worthy investment should be a breeze for you. Market savvy doesn’t suddenly vanish when you change markets.

Oh really? I am gonna bookmark this page then and I will be playing this game after a month (hopefully) so I can come back and quote you again. I have seen people paying as much as 50000g for a Glorious Chestplate in wow for transmog which looks totally ugly IMO and I don’t see any reason why new players or spoiled kids will not spend 100s of gold to obtain that jade skin which looks bad/good in “your” opinion.

There are two possibilities, either you have no idea or you are trying to sway people away with your comments in hopes of reducing the competition. I have dealt with your kinds (AH/TP junkies) and survived for over 5 years, however I am not here to argue and I am not gonna post anymore here until after dragon bash is over. I gave my opinion and what I think will happen, you agree with it or not its all up to you. You can’t make anything if you don’t risk anything. Do CoF p1 couple of days and be happy with it….

Dragon coffers worth investing gold in?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Pridedemon.3041

Pridedemon.3041

I am a multi millionaire and gold capped over several characters in WoW. Most of my gold there was made from AH (Auction House) by following a simple tactic, buy low and sell high. But of course its always risky and you need to have a very good knowledge of in game economy and know what will go up in price or go down. For example, its always good to start stockpiling raw ore’s and herbs dirt cheap when a new raid patch or expansion is upcoming and then reap the profits.

From my Month and a half experience in guild wars 2 so far I have noticed that ANet introduces new stuff and small patches much faster then blizzard does so more patches means more possibilities and opportunities. However in GW2 trading post is global and not realm specific so its very hard or almost impossible to try controlling the economy.

Take dragon coffers for an example, the day Dragon bash patch went live coffers were selling above 10s per piece and I made quite a bit of gold in first 3-4 days from them and then they have gradually degraded in price that they are no longer worth the time farming. They are now floating at an average of 1s for a week now because of the major flood since they drop very frequently. However its gonna change I believe since dragon bash will soon come to an end, coffers will no longer drop, Rich coffers will disappear from the gem shop and the only option to obtain a jade weapon skin will be the already available coffers.

Considering it takes 1000 coffers or so on average to obtain a jade skin the supply will quickly run out on TP and the price will skyrocket. Of course you can’t expect to buy them for 1s on last day and then expect the price to be 10s the very next day, change will happen slowly. Give it a month or so, see what happened to Azurite Orbs, they were selling for 2silvers during the patch time and now they sell for anything between 90s and 1g.

There is only 1 risk in stocking these beauties up and that is if anet changes that coffers no longer drop a jade skin after the dragon bash time is over but chances of happening that are very low. I don’t think investing 40-50 and buying 5000 of these wil be a bad idea as long as you have the bank space and patience for them to gradually go up in price.

Dying 100 times while levelling up one of your first character through 80 levels isn’t a bad thing, is it? I mean, GW2 isn’t a game like WoW where dying is like “ultimate fail” – you are expected to die a few times and 100 isn’t much, to be honest.

And is dying 100 times over 80 levels really ruining your fun? I die a lot (I’m not very good), and don’t find it more than slightly irritating if I’m very far from a waypoint or if I was just about to win the fight but did something silly.

I usually steer clear of balance arguments, but I hear just as many people complaining that the Warrior or Guardian are difficult as I do that they’re “easy mode” and the same with all the other classes. Some suit different playing styles better than others. I am terrible with melee classes and get far better results with caster professions, while others cry foul and say they’re nerfed beyond all recognition. It’s different for each, but I’d say that if dying a few times ruins your fun, then it’s a bit of a shame.

You don’t get the point, dying 100 times or even 1000 times isn’t relevant and by 100 times I didn’t actually mean exact 100, it maybe more or less I didn’t count. It mean that I died a LOT as my elemantalist. However the point is that if you continuously die or get downed with every 3rd pull with 1 profession and don’t die at all with other profession then there is definitely some balance issue there.

For reference, mages in WoW are similarly squishy if enemy gets into melee range but they have lots of tools like slows/roots/stuns/blink etc to keep enemy at range while doing superior damage. GW2 lacks such thing, an elementalist wearing cloth armor has got to be squishy and is getting downed if 2 normal mobs close in to you but the problem is that they don’t have the dps and burst anywhere near to warrior to kill mobs quickly.

A warrior carrying a greatsword isn’t sturdy either but his power comes with his superior dps, the normal mobs and some veterans around him doesn’t last very long to be a threat. I charge 5-6 mobs regularly with my warrior and kill them in a single Hundred Blades strike without them getting the chance of hitting me more then once.
Try that with an elementalist and report back your results.

Ever think you just got better at the game? 80 levels of anything would teach me how to dodge telegraphed attacks and how to level up quickly.

Just saying.

It maybe true yes, with experience comes better gameplay no doubt but I wasn’t a complete newbie when I started gw2. I am a very old mmorpg player and have played many mmo’s including wow for over 5 years.

However it also can’t be ruled out that warrior is far superior to every other class out there.
My ele has 30 points in earth tree that improves toughness and full exotic gear while my warrior has 0 trait points in survivability, fully specced into berserker trait/gear wise, has 2 pieces of exotic and 4 pieces of rare gear but still has way more armor then my ele, about 5k more health and deals twice as much damage while also having twice as much survivability without having to rely on defensive cds all the time like arcane shield/earth shield/mist form etc.
Fine some may say that elementalist is more of a team player, but let me ask you this how much you play in groups then you play alone? This is not WOW where healers are highly sought of in raiding and dungeons where tanks/healers are mandatory for progression. In this game every set up works and tbh when I am farming cof ppl are specifically asking for warriors/guardians and rarely mesmers. I never ever saw in more then a month of my gameplay someone saying “Elementalist needed” or thief/ranger/necro.

Agreed, I started with an elementalist as I always prefer ranged casters over hack n slash but I ended up rolling a warrior. During leveling my ele I was defeated more then 100 times and I had to use my defensive skills like arcane shield all the time, as a warrior I was defeated less then 5 times and I never used any defensive skill. Took me grand 4 days to level a warrior and now I am destroying everything.

Completed personal story and only died ONCE due to my own mistake (the quest where you have to kill mouth of zhaitan). This game is no way in hell balanced.

To anyone out there, if you aren’t playing a warrior or got one maxed then you are really missing this game, as much as I hate playing melee’s but you have to be a warrior if you want any sort of fun in this game and not frustration.

I am assuming you are a pvp’er because your traits allocation is more favored towards survivability then dps. Would’nt it be better to go fire/air route if you want to maximize your damage and crit chance?

And 2ndly you said either go Power/precision or condition, do you mean that power doesn’t play any significant role for earth spec? I know earth is based on bleeds and DoTs but doesn’t power increase your eruption damage and eventually dots? Maybe wrong here….

Thanks for the input guys, I really do appreciate you taking time to help me.
Ok I have tried different builds, when I started my ele I was all fire so I was speccing for power + precision in traits but recently I am shifting towards earth as I think fire has way too low survivability even for a cloth caster dps.

For traits, I am 30/10/30/0/0, max points in fire and earth tree and 10 in air tree. I also tried arcane tree but think air’s Bolt to the heart perk is better for dps. Upto rare all of my gear was power/precision/condition as I was regularly swapping between fire and earth but now I am getting power/vitality/condition gear since I am planning to go full earth. For earth traits, I am using +5% damage to bleeding foes, +20% bleed duration and 20% faster earth skill recharge.
I am using 5% damage increase sigil in weapon and using most of the +magic find runes in gear until I get all exotic gear.
My current attributes listed are:
Power: 1828 Attack: 2939
Precision: 1423 Crit chance: 28% (I am ditching this)
Condition damage: 989 Condition Duration: 30%
Crit damage: 10%

I have thought of using superior sigil of corruption (condition) but I don’t think it would be worth it considering how often I get downed and get revived back due to bleeds I have on mobs.

Ok guys this is going to be a long post with some possible rants, if you don’t like such posts then you shouldn’t be here.

I bought this game the 2nd week of its release but couldn’t play it much because of Mists of Pandaria, I started with elementalist as I always play (Mage) type characters first in any RPG/MMORPG. Leveled it to 20 and then left gw2 for quite sometime because I got more busy in wow with progress raiding t14 then 15. Recently I got bored with wow so picked up my ele and started lvlving her again and dinged 80 couple days ago.

Needless to say I got downed countless time during my lvling process and I kept telling myself it will get better as I reach higher levels and get better gear. Now I agree I don’t get downed as much often if I am careful and don’t pull more then 3 mobs but survivability isn’t my concern here. I choose elementalist who wears light armor and I understand he/she is relatively weak if enemy gets in melee range but my real concern here is dps. I am completely specced for dps trait/gearwise. Almost all of my gear is power/precision/condition for swaping between fire/earth attunements. I tried power/precision/critical for fire only but fire’s survivability is just horrible and isn’t viable imo. I run with staff, I am also aware there are tank type builds out there with 0/0/10/30/30 and dagger+dagger but as I already said I am not seeking survivability. I am seeking ways to maximize my dps output. I have run CoF part 1 recently and I just know my dps was abysmal needless to say I died with just couple of hits from NORMAL mobs in dungeon.

Mind you my gear is all level 80, with staff/coat/leggings/shoulders/necklace/trident being exotic and rest rare yet. I have tried Superior sigil of earth but currently running with +5% damage sigil. And here I was today in Frostgorge Sound teamed with a warrior for holo’s and I was just amazed to see that he/she can take 75% of mobs hp it took me to cast a single fireball + flame burst. For holo’s all I did was to cast eruption + shockwave and couldn’t do anything else because well, mobs were dead….. So I couldn’t resist and asked him what was his gear and he told me all exotic, I asked if he had any legendary weapon or ascended gear and he said no. He also told me he had nearly 150% magic find so its safe to assume he was gemmed for magic find as it was clearly evident from his 25 stacks of increased magic find sigil which I could see on him. Also when he was killing holo mobs all of them were ganging on him and I never saw him get down to 50% health ever.

I have teamed with a ranger before see him out dps me while his pet tanks the mobs so he can do anything he wants freely. So here I am, asking if I am doing something really wrong or did I pick a bad class to play?

I have played wow for about 5 years and I have seen classes gets overpowered/underpowered a bit with every patch, I have trolled and be trolled many times in wow official class balance forums but I can honestly say I haven’t seen anything like this in wow. Recently in wow patch 5.1 fire mages were overpowered and now warlocks are topping the dps meters but I am talking about 1 or 2 percent dps difference here. I am just glad GW2 doesn’t have such kind of coordinated high end gameplay like heroic raids with dps meters (recount) etc to track individuals performance or else I don’t think why anyone would want elementalist in their group. I sure as hell won’t if I am the group leader…
