Not that we lost but i actually felt bad for the other team, matchmaker engine really? Getting teamed with randoms might not always be the best idea, this was 3 party (them) vs 2 party (us) today. I queued solo.
(edited by Pridedemon.3041)
Aegis is a very flawed design, in pve like fractals it can be abused to block very high hitting attacks which often 1 shot you however in pvp its next to worthless when there are gazillion of aoe’s going on and faster attacks.
IMO guardian needs a rework from scratch, before they had a defined role of being bunker and support, now they are just meh. Sure a dh can quickly finish noobs but a good player can almost dodge all of their major attacks and finish them 1 vs 1 easy.
I can’t think how someone could lose against a dh as a scrapper, its almost crime.
I think there will be another season before the achievements reset or something, as 4 seasons a year seems like the right way.
However we can’t be sure until we hear something official about that, my guess is that if this was going to be last season to obtain legendary backpack then ANET might have said so but i haven’t read anything about that yet.
Classes with high mobility and atleast 1 good bunker class which can close down your home, preferably who can sustain 1 vs 2 for a long time before dying (if he dies), for close best choices are: ele/scrapper/druid.
Classes with high mobility will help you as you probably won’t have access to mid, this includes a thief, mesmer etc
“When you pug you are also playing against pug” Actually no…..1-2 out of 3 games i am facing as i said above 3-4 grouped people (enemy) vs full pug. It has been increasing for the past 3 days.
That’s not how it works or atleast how it should work.
If you are sure you are playing against someone who are 2-3 group then your team will also consist of 2-3 ppl grouped. You might have solo queued but that doesn’t mean all others in your team are also solo. Match engine doesn’t pit 3 grouped ppl against 5 complete randoms who solo queued.
If you join as a 5 man party you will ALWAYS play against another 5 man party.
Condi warrs are good but dh are not that scary, their traps and attacks are very predictable, if you can dodge/block their traps which are almost always on points you can easily kill them 1 vs 1 on most classes.
Also stacking classes is never a good idea no matter how op a class is, if the enemy has 4 warriors and guards with no support then you shouldn’t lose if you have good support and condi cleanse.
Just had a match on foefire where enemy opened with this tactic, they sent 2 close (scrapper and druid) and 3 far (our home). We went on to completely obliterate them.
Our ele camped mid and 4 rushed far (their home) and killed them and i bunkered there (druid) while our mesmer kept a portal to come help me if needed. I could contend solo against their druid and scrapper for eternity (i guess their scrapper was bad) and we kept onto hold 2 points for majority of the game, even 3 some time.
Anyway this strategy can sometimes work, sometime don’t. I suggest don’t try it if enemy has a mesmer and just never try it on forest.
Your personal skill matters a lot, also your build and your team composition.
When you pug you are also playing against pug, some are below average, some are average and 1 or 2 can be good so it eventually balance’s out for both teams. Yes you get a complete noob or afker once in a while but that alone shouldn’t send you on a losing streak.
Team composition also matters a lot, no matter how good your team is you will have very hard time winning if you are 2 thieves, 2 dragon hunters and 1 necro vs 1ele, 1 druid, 1 scrapper, 1 warrior and 1 necro. So don’t get attached to 1 class but atleast be good with 2 or 3 classes so that you can switch to whatever your team needs most.
Contrary to what most people say, getting win streaks are not difficult if you have the skills and right builds. No matter how good you are, if you are playing power ranger you are not gonna contend with my druid on point. Yes i have seen so many people playing power rangers, gs necros and other bad builds.
I know OP is frustrated because warrior didn’t care when he said he will be fine, but how could that warrior have knew you were good? I mean what if scrapper totally blasted you and then you start rageing “Why didn’t no one come to help me?” that’s the problem at start of the season, and even later in diamond/lege. If you play as a full pug team, how can you trust your teammates that they can handle 1v1?
They don’t get to legendary by doing only 1v1, even that they should know when they can handle it, and more importantly when teammate can handle it. But still this is about teamplay.
Because i clearly said in team chat that i don’t need help, me and scrapper were dueling on point for about a min with both about 80%+ health and getting no where. I even said in /s chat to warrior to go (in-case he didn’t read team chat) but he didn’t care.
So what happened, at 20% engie’s invul proc and i think from this point the warr should be able to handle him and i try to get to mid as fast as i can and provide support but no, team members were already dead on mid and i guess engie used his healing to get back and went on to finish that warrior real quickly once he didn’t have support and 2 vs 1 advantage.
Anyway, i guess 5 vs 5 is lot more forgiving. As 4 or even 3 average players can carry couple of bad players because pug vs pug usually means 1-2 above average or good and 2-3 below average or abysmal players in both teams which usually balances out itself.
For this reason i think WoW’s rated arena games were much better, as 2 vs 2 or even 3 vs 3 your personal skill mattered a lot more and there was little to no chance of getting carried by other players to higher ratings if you were bad or below average.
Yes, this is totally beyond me. Its still early in the season so theoretically only good players should get into ruby yet right? Wrong.
We all encounter scrubs every once in a while but this one takes the cake, and he is RUBY.
So match start on forest, we wipe the other team on mid and get our beast as well enemy beast. We have 2 points now and about 100 points lead when the enemy respawn. I am druid and i see this scrapper coming close and i go to our point so we get into a deadlock and kind of an eternal battle, now our warrior decides to come help kill scrapper on our close EVEN i said i don’t need help 1 vs 1, we have the point i am on it but he comes and start hitting scrapper (who was definitely good). Now indeed the scrapper goes into invul @ 20% health and this warrior is continuously chasing him while our team is wiping 3 against 4 in mid.
So i decide to leave close as warrior refuse to let engie go and help mid but by the time i reached mid 2 of my team members were already dead so i refused to die in mid too and came back to our close and by that time the scrapper had already killed the warrior and was almost half way to capture point when i got back, from this moment the enemy completely close mid as they had a bunker ele and went on to hold 2 points for the most remainder of the game and won with 400-500 all thanks to the noob warrior.
Ofcourse i blocked him and i hope i don’t ever see him again in this or any other game for that matter.
Sorry about this long post, i had to vent this out.
You are wrong, you could be god like and u could still lose the game because you are grouped with scrubs which has nothing to do with your skill level.
Now anet has said that matches are not 50 50 chance for each team but more like 60 40. So one match u have an advantage and on other u r intentionally grouped with scrubs to have a 40% chance.
My matches are going like the match i win i am winning with huge margin like more then 250 points difference but the ones i lose are always close. I can’t remember one defeat in my past 30 or so games where my team couldn’t even reach 400. I am still maintaining 65%+ win ratio but i can’t stand it when i am grouped with total nabs. Makes me think how in hell they even crossed amber
Last time i played wow pvp (during cataclysm, i left wow ever since) it was heavily gear based. It had something called resistance or simillar on pvp gear which made fighting someone who had farmed that gear just playing more gave u unfair advantage over other.
Wow arena was pretty much always run with healer which made 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3 fights last absurdly long, yeah i am talking to u gw2 players who complain about bunker builds in gw2 and battlegrounds were basically zerg vs zerg like world vs world.
Class balance were also something lacking greatly in wow, during whole cataclysm expansion which lasted around 2 years a warrior had no chance against a mage. Even a bad mage in pve gear could easily kill a good warrior in full pvp gear.
Pvp in gw2 is much better then wow when i played it, i doubt much has changed ever since
Yes i am tired of it, i have nothing against thieves, i am one of those guys who have leveled all professions to 80 but i am tired of getting 2 thieves in almost every single ranked match while opponent has revs, engies and ele’s.
Thieves are good if you play how they are meant to be played, as a thief you are supposed to decap far and snipe opportunistic targets and not meant to be in a 4 vs 4 fight in middle where random aoe’s will kill you. (most noob thieves i am getting)
Also thieves become far less useful when your opponent only plays 2 points and has a druid or scrapper on close which pretty much every team has.
Dishonor or no, i am just gonna afk from now on whenever i get 2 thieves in my team.
There were 4 necros between the 4 teams in the semi-finals of pro-league, yet despite that there were also 7 revs and zero thieves, warriors or guards, you think that makes revs ‘pretty balanced’?
Honestly i think Revenant, Necromancer & Engineer are currently meta tier and there is simply no reason to play anything else at higher levels. You may want to put in a single ele/druid for support but thats about it.
You can’t fix it by nerfing either one, anet either needs to nerf all these 3 or bring others to their level.
But i still think theif has a very good chance against a rev of same skill cap, warr has no chance.
I am sure this game isn’t balanced around professions against profession.
Whenever i see 2 revs in enemy team i switch necro which pwns rev hard so yes revs are not almighty after all. They have their strength’s against some professions while lose to others at the same time. That’s pretty balanced IMO.
Getting to ruby is easy, it will just take more time if you solo queue instead of with friends.
I got upto sapphire with solo queue, was even at around 10+ win streak and then grouped up with 1 of my friend and made short work of sapphire too.
Right now i am 5th tier ruby and still only grouping up with 1 other friend at evening times, sometimes i usually queue solo in morning hours too.
My suggestion, learn which professions are in a really good position rightnow and try to find out what counters what.
See 3 or more necro’s in enemy team? (very common these days) Switch to your ranger (even better if its a power survival build and not druid) and snipe them from range. Lots of engie’s and or revenants? Necro is the way to go, in-short necro counters everything in melee range these days.
Try to get good with 2 or more professions and switch accordingly, know the strength and weaknesses of other professions. Almost every profession has 1 or 2 big spike damage abilities, if you can find out what these are and learn to dodge them the game will become much better. In lower tiers 1 or 2 good players can easily carry the whole team.
Warriors still use greatsword in their meta build as one weapon set in everything pve, not sure about pvp. Its their main weapon, for other weapon set, axe + mace is best. (still pve perspective)
Other professions which can wield greatswords:
Necromancer —-—> With their new reaper elite specialization
Mesmer (Their attacks with greatsword are ranger not melee)
But what you want to know? about engineer or scrapper?
More then 90% engineers in spvp are scrappers or atleast the ones i have encountered so yes i am definitely asking the build which is most popular.
I am convinced at this point that my ranger build is simply not meant to stand against scrappers. The good thing about it is there is usually only 1 engie in teams while there are lot more necro’s and my build can kill necro’s very well. With having access to 4 condi removal skills that also grant fury on a relatively short cd is awesome.
First of all, i am not here to complain about engie so lets get that off discussion.
Now coming to the point, i have been playing spvp recently on my ranger and i am doing fine for the moment, almost to div 3. Won like 12 games in a row today with me and my buddy playing together and it has been smooth sailing so far, i know things will get harder once i get into div 3 and maybe higher.
I run full offensive survival power build on my ranger, i hate bunkering and i find out i can take on most professions 1 vs 1 usually except Engie. Ofcourse i can’t solo kill bunkered builds sometimes like bunkered ele 1 vs 1 but that usually ends up in a deadlock neither one dying. However i haven’t really been able to kill engie today at all, even if you get the jump on them and get them to like 25% they shrink 2x in a row, stealth comes out of stealth with more then 50% health (still healing and regen) while dealing tremendous burst at the same time, at that point i am either running for my life or already in a downed state.
So lets cut the long story short, am i doing something wrong or should i just don’t bother trying to solo a scrapper?
I have all professions, out of them engie and necro is my least played but at this point i am really tempted at bringing out my engie for some pvp mayhem.
Over the course of 3 years+ of my gw2 playtime’s i have tried different builds with different combination of armor sets. I have tried full celestial ele, rampager on engie, soldier guard and eventually i came to the conclusion that zerk is all you need if you never do wvw. Ofcourse this is my personal preference.
The normal world doesn’t pose significant enough danger and every class has some kind of ability if you want to kill that specific hard mob. See a group of veterans and you are on your squishy ele? Summon an earth elemental and send him first to get aggro then fill the area with meteor shower and problem solved. Same with thief.
Not to mention i have been recently soloíng most of HoT hero point champions with my ranger decked in full berserk and highest dps build.
I am currently doing world completition on my 4th character to get those gifts of exploration and when you have seen all and you know the ins and outs of your profession then berserk just makes it go faster.
EDIT: To answer the above guy, i am from India so my average ping is ~180ms, never had a problem dodging stuff and running full glass canon gear and build.

Ok this question comes to my mind many times that why ANET keeps introducing new armor combinations when you ONLY need berserk gear if you never do WvW.
I have 11 character slots with 1 character of every profession and 2 ele’s and all of them are FULL berserk (some with assassin trinkets).
You can choose whatever the heck you want for pvp without actually wearing that armor and for dungeons and solo’ing world content berserk is always the way to go as its faster. Why would you run soldier’s gear so you can absorb couple of hits from a normal or veteran mob while you can run berserk gear and kill the same mob before it even reaches you.
I haven’t done fractals since HoT but i had a personal level of 53 before ascended armor was introduced when you could only have 45 max AR (or was it 55?) and i always ran with berserk gear, no problem.
Haven’t done raids (the reason i probably left wow, i no longer have the will of using headphones and sit all night long trying to kill boss and getting wipes over and over like i had 8 years ago when i was 20, probably never gonna do raids in gw2) but i think that might actually be one pve format where more tankier gears would be useful.
I had couple of professions for world bosses with soldiers gear like tequatl and tri wurm but ever since ANET changed that you could now crit epic bosses the usefulness of non-berserk gear reduced even more and they also use berserk gear now.
I say those various combinations are only out there to confuse newer players. Even WvW players who run condi build use very specific gear usually like dire, rest are only there just for the sake of it.

Just started having this problem, tried exiting the game completely twice and relog but no avail. You would think that a problem of this scale would be addressed by now in patch since it seems almost a month old reported issue but no.
Makes the ranger class virtually unplayable in spvp.
Sorry about the clutter on-screen, here’s my main ele dyed in celestial/golden lion with a fitting title (Light in the Darkness). Have Liadri as active mini.
Just what i wanted to know, thanks for the confirmation.
I still haven’t got around infusing my mawdrey but i plan to at some point, question here is if i change mawdrey’s appearance then can i still infuse it later?
It says this specifically on Tempered spinal blade that if you transmute it then it can’t be used in mf but no such note on mawdrey, still i want to confirm it.
Can’t Wait Seriously
a) again burst skills are not super useful for pve, they are primarily for pvp, in dungeon (especially for boss fights) you want to keep your adrenaline at max because it gives damage boost to you for the amount of adrenaline you have build, you only use burst when the mob/boss is about to die and the burst will finish them off.
b) the tradeoff to moving fire field is that you are forgoing the superior dps of either greatsword or axe/axe mace/axe build for a might stacking field which isn’t needed because you already have 25 might stacks, it might be useful for solo’ing purposes but for a dungeon/fractal parties, world bosses i don’t see it as something better then what warrior already have.
Hmm. Yeah, can’t see how BECOMING A LIVING FIRE FIELD MIGHTMIGHTMIGHT would be of any help to power builds.
A single warrior running phalanx build with 2 staff ele’s in a dungeon group has near 100% of 25 might stack uptime, i don’t see what this new build brings to the pve scene.
Its a condi heavy build for spvp, ele’s and guardians can already inflict upwards of 10 stacks of burning in an extremely short period of time on you if you are not careful so i don’t see this as game-breaker either.
I don’t know what you mean by even bigger damage, do you mean more dps for pve?
Because if so then that’s simply not correct. From what i understand after reading the latest update, the berserker elite specialization is focused around torch and burning build (so in other words, its a condi heavy build) and we all know that Condi is just inferior to pure ppf build, so no its not even bigger damage for pve.
Where does it make warrior stand in spvp, we will have to wait until we can actually get the hands on experience during beta.
You can’t buy the Ultimate in game, then you’d be buying gems with gems. That’s been there from the beginning, so it’s unrelated to the frauds.
I bought ultimate in-game and it worked like a charm, i just had to exit the game and then relog back and everything was delivered immediately to my account including gems.
So i have all 8 professions to 80 and out of them engineer was the last one to reach level 80, after leveling him to 80 (charr engie) i haven’t touched him ever since. My question here is to people who alsp have all professions or atleast most professions and have played/experienced all of them for a while. Do you find engineer more useable or better suited for some specific role in game?
I am mostly a pve player, doing dungeons/high level fractals and i will never bring a engineer in my group, i insta kick engie’s from my groups (no hard feeling but it just can’t compare to dps against say Ele/Warr/thief and have no way near the utility and usefulness of a guardian. As a matter of fact Engie’s/Rangers/Necros have no place in dungeon/fractal parties and mesmer’s have very limited/situational use.
For spvp i love my ranger and mesmer, both have great dps, good survivability and lots of utility, i never ever had a problem against an engie 1vs1 in arena, doesn’t matter if i am holding or attacking a point.
That leaves wvw and tbh i have never done any serious wvw, is it any good in WvW then other classes? Like say a thief 1vs1 or a staff/support ele hanging behind zergs and doing massive aoe dps/healing?
I did try revenant for an hour or so and yes i don’t believe it outshines in some specific roles but i think its too early, no one has had enough time yet to test different builds and its still in BETA so most skills are bound to change/rebalance.
I tried sword/axe build and with shiro legend it has extremely high dps potential with almost perma quickness however its totally glass canon and isn’t recommended for wvw/structured pvp at all.
Revenant skills has no CD, its energy based so you can probably spam it atleast 3 times before you run out of energy, that’s probably too much evade.
ANET is definitely testing it internally and prolly know’s better then most of us here and there’s a reason it isn’t evade yet.

Thanks, i am kinda relieved to hear that my 3 sets of ascended armor and 2 legendaries will still be best.

Hey guys, i am returning to GW2 after like 6 months of break after stumbling into news of heart of thorns, i am prolly gonna pre-order it in first week of August.
I haven’t been following any news about heart of thorns so i thought it would be easier to just ask then dig out expansion details so here’s my question:
When i quit i was almost 2.5/4 into making my bifrost, need pre and gift of color so almost there, now my question is will heart of thorns introduce better armor/weapons? Does it make sense to invest into legendary weapon at this point or will legendaries be upgraded to higher stats if new gear comes out like it happen back when ANET introduced ascended gear?
Hey guys, i am almost finished leveling my necro (78), my 8th and final profession to be 80. Honestly first i never liked necro (because i am usually a dungeon/fractal) player and necro’s are not very good in that dps wise hence i leveled it last. But i must say i REALLY enjoyed leveling her, almost as much as i enjoyed leveling my warrior and ele.
The DPS is there, huge amounts of cc, insane survivability , never died once leveling (besides the usual fall damage deaths) with masterwork gear changing almost every 10-15 levels. I never had any problem aggro’ing groups of 5 or so of simillar level and aoe them down. When i leveled my thief, pulling anything over 2 was a death sentence.
Anyway so i am now looking at my options about what gear i want to run when level 80.
Few things, i am NEVER going to use my necro for any dungeons/fractals (i have full ascended berserk warr/ele for that), neither i am going to do any PvP (Never done any pvp in my over 2 years gw2 time). Some WvW but mostly for world bosses, Tri-Wurm/tequatl etc so i am looking at condi build. Killing husks etc…
I am thinking Rampager as necro already have tons of health (20k) and huge survivability and cc like fears/stuns/death shroud which is basically a long invulnerability and minions which can take aggro off you so i am thinking i don’t need gear like dire/carrion. Does rampager makes any sense? I don’t really see any good use for precision for a necro.
Also is Axe + Warhorn a good combo? I really enjoyed leveling with it with staff for heavy aoe.
When i started hearing those random voices i immediately rechecked the date, it’s not 1st April so maybe this slipped in a couple weeks early by mistake?
I remember blizzard did this prank way back in WoW and trade chat went all cuckoo. xD
Yeah same, got booted out of game due to patch and then started getting connectivity problem and now couldn’t connect at all.
Oh well, off to play Far Cry 4 i guess.
No love for the ranger? Everyone busy playing zerk warriors/ele/guardians I see.
Hey guys, can anyone suggest me a best condition build for ranger to handle husks in Great Jungle Wurm world boss event? I am not looking for a berserker build for dungeons neither I will be doing any WvW or PVP oriented content, this is solely for handling husks who are weak to condition damage. So purpose of this build is to stack as many strong conditions possible quickly on a single target.
I am currently looking at Carrior gear (Power/Vitality/Condition) as my best choice for this purpose. What I need is a good build, rune suggestions and weapon of choice. My current weapon set consists of a shortbow & Longsword + Warhorn.
Also what pet would be most useful? I guess devourer for stacking those bleeds?
Hey guys, so after playing guild wars for around a year I finally found a guild that do Guild Missions.
Yesterday my guild did guild bounties and rush, I participated in both but didn’t get any commendation at all. I was there hiting bounties when they died, no commendation. Also I successfully completed guild rush too, was able to loot the grand chest in the end but I still didn’t get any commendation or extra chest.
Is this because my character is on EU Underworld server and my guild is on EU Seafarer’s Rest or I did something wrong? Getting commendations was the whole point for leaving my 1 year old guild where I have been since day 1 and if I can’t get them with my current guild then no point staying there.
This is a forum where people can share their opinion so that’s exactly what I am doing.
Trying to get an idea what most people think as the hardest boss in current content. If you don’t like sharing your opinion then there is the next thread for you, keep moving no need to stop here.
Including fractals, for me its definitely Legendary Imbued Grawl Shaman at fractal 40+. Even with now 55AR he is still hard and without a perfect party setup can either take forever or impossible to beat. Rabsovich is also fairly annoying but it has more to do with the sheer amount of time needed to clear the dredge and hey you can atleast glitch him.
I have done all other dungeons and paths except arah and I don’t find any other boss particularly hard. I have only been to Arah once and gave up on Lupi after 4-5 tries. (mind you that group had 4/5 first timers).
Well I just got full stag armor set for my norn female warrior and the abyss/gold dye I was using on my previous armor doesn’t look as good on Stag armor. Black color seems faint while gold is just passable.
Currently my color schemes are all messed up, Black/gold armor, red claymore (zojja’s claymore) and fractal capacitor that’s quite glowy blue. I will have to bear with my sword for now until I get eternity which will atleast be another month but I was thinking of going blue’ish on my armor to atleast match with my back. Can anyone give some suggestions or better yet post screenshots of their characters on that armor. I do have celestial but I am trying to stay away with generic white/black shade for this set.
Lets do the math shall we?
Silk to gossamer conversion: (all prices are current tp prices buyout)
250 silk = 22s 50c
1 gossamer = 4 silver
5 philosopher stone = 0 (not counting skill points)
5 crystalline dust = 70s
Total = 96s 50c
The result I got in my couple attempts was:
13 gossamer scraps = 52s approx.
19 gossamer scraps = 75s approx.
which both is a net loss, not to mention the money I will lose in TP if I list them for sale, you will only gain realistically if you get 30 scraps+ each attempt, anything lower is either breaking even or a loss, its called a mystic toilet for a reason. Anything you putting in there is gamble but then again you can get a precursor on your first attempt or burn through 300g+ and never get anything good.
Yes it is true the recipe will be beneficial if you buy silk now and turn them into gossamer after the update goes live but then again why waste your bank space with stacks and stacks of silk when you can directly buy gossamer for cheaper or same price?
Please enlighten me if I have missed anything
(edited by Pridedemon.3041)
Nope. Guess why everyone bought tons and tons of silk scraps already?
Silk scrap isn’t much better, I tried twice and the result was 13 and 19 gossamer scraps….
Hmm… has it been like that all the time? Good to know, though.
Yes it has, for example there is a max of 5 ori nodes you can mine on cursed shore. You can mine either 5 on a single server or for example mine 3 on aurora glade and 2 on desolation but as soon as you hit 5 on that char all the nodes on that map will become un-mineable.
