mesmer not even mentioned in balance preview?

I just read the “leaked” preview as well.

All I can say is that my mesmer was my first character, the one I chose because I loved the concept behind it. And it’s currently slipped to the one I play 3rd most often.

With those changes, it will likely be relegated to being played only for the sake of nostalgia.

Really depressing.

The moas this time went from their spawn point to the asura gate.. stood there for a minute, then went right past it and over to the champion wurm queen.. where they promptly got slaughtered.

Not having much luck with getting this one down, eh guys?

I still see most people ressing each other. I run a support build and am constantly spamming AoE healing and raising people whenever I see someone downed.

What bugs ME is the people who are dead (not downed, dead) and are a 30-second run from a spawnpoint but sit there expecting others to try to raise them in the middle of a fight.

I understand you can choose your stat set for them. Can these then be changed, or are they fixed once selected?

I also believe they are account-bound when made and only soulbound after stats are chosen, is that correct?

Thanks.

I’m still a relatively new player with limited resources and only recently got my first crafting discipline up to 450. I have several characters, all of which are using suboptimal back pieces because of the difficulty associated with getting them / my not being around for past events where they were obtainable.

I was excited to see this event might let me make ascended backpieces… but the requirements for materials beyond those in the event probably make them not an option for me at this time.

So, questions…

1. Would it be a good idea to purchase one of the ascended recipes now? Will I be able to use it later?

2. I haven’t seen mention of the stats on any of these items, I assume there’s a way to select them? Is this only done at crafting time or can it be changed later?

3. The actual appearance of the item isn’t really to my taste, is there a way I’d be able to change it? I know about transmutation stones and the like, but I don’t know the details nor if they work on backpieces.

Thanks.

It’s these type of builds that ruin the gameplay of 99% of the player base. It isn’t about a small percentage of competitors complaining about a build.

I’m around 80% percentile right now. On Saturday I played around 10 matches with some guildies and didn’t see a single dedicated-decap engi once.

I do play engi myself and a teammate suggested I try the build, but that was it.

I’m sure they are out there, but they’re hiding from me at least.

If they’re really a problem then fine, fix them. But too often these fixes go overboard and have serious negative effects on builds that aren’t overpowered at all.

Dont nerf it the wrong way. Dont take away from every other engi build that uses those utilities. The issue isn’t with boon rip the issue isn’t with cc or immob… the problem is 100 percent automated response.

A request like this would suggest they should nerf AR to uselessness without giving engis any better anti-condition tools, relegating yet another character of mine to the scrap heap. (And no, I don’t play decap.)

Thousands and thousands of people will have fun builds destroyed because of a tiny number of high-caliber PvP players whose games have little if anything to do with how 99% of GW2 plays.

And the very next line: “Hence, though an obstinate fight may be made by a small force, in the end it must be captured by the larger force.”

This is a game, and death isn’t permanent. There is plenty to be accomplished by an obstinate fight even against superior numbers. That’s what a server with pride and heart works towards, not just giving up because they can’t win easily. Just as there is plenty to be accomplished by an athlete at the Olympics with a world ranking of 20 or something, who knows he has maybe a 1% chance to score a medal.

I’d rather die over and over on an enemy borderland harrassing their keeps and flipping their camps and wasting their yaks, than sit out the fight because “we can’t win”.

Mag has seen a lot more action this weekend from SoR and even (terrible as they are) FA than we saw all last week from SBI and BP. It’s not really SBI’s or BP’s fault, they only have so much population, and by extension – only so many good players.

Funny you say that as I was about to post that I noticed the difference this week fighting JQ/BG players over FA and SoS from last week. I don’t mean this to say FA or SoS players are bad or anything, but I (and others) have definitely noticed the high caliber of roamers from the tier 1 servers.

This business about high-population servers all having bad players who only win through numbers is IME a myth.

Why the choice between loyalty and rewards?

in WvW

Posted by: Qaelyn.7612

Qaelyn.7612

The rewards for participating in the EotM maps seem to be vastly superior to those gained in regular WvW. This creates a situation where players have to choose between being loyal to their servers and doing what gets them the most drops, badges, world XP and so forth.

I don’t see why this needs to be the case. In fact, I’m very puzzled as to why such lucrative rewards were put into what was supposed to be an “overflow map” without simultaneously increasing the rewards in standard WvW to match. Why create a disincentive for players to fight for their servers? It’s hard enough, especially for servers in lower tiers or ones in mismatches, to motivate casual players to participate. Why have you made it worse?

Please correct this imbalance. And please do so sooner rather than later: it shouldn’t take that long to change a few numbers and drop tables, as opposed to making us wait for months for a grand “rollout of EotM features to WvW”.

Thanks.

I’m on TC. I’m not aware that we have ever “bought” anything, we have no real chance to win this week, but we’re still out there trying hard.

In fact, we’re trying hard despite facing two servers that have had a ton of transfers, and have paid for at least some as I understand it. So that’s not an excuse.

Last night a guildie and I were 2 of less than 10 players on JQ’s entire BL, but we still killed yaks and flipped camps despite getting jumped and slaughtered several times.

It’s about doing your best, not only playing when you can win. Well, at least for us it is.

Dealing with stacks of ascended ingredients?

Qaelyn.7612

As a relatively new player I had avoided crafting for a while but just got myself up to 450 in part to level a character I was bored of leveling, and in part to deal with my growing stacks of dragonite ore, empyreal fragments and bloodstone dust. TBH, I’m not sure I will even do ascended crafting as it seems very slow and expensive and I don’t even know what character I will play long term. But I didn’t want to throw those ingredients out and they were clogging my characters’ inventory.

I had assumed it would be 250 per brick but turns out it’s only 100 which stinks. And what’s worse is the need for these obsidian shards. The least painful/expensive way of getting them seems to be with karma.. but even there it gets expensive. I have been collecting karma since I started playing and got up to around 700k because I never spend it on armor.. but I just used up around 1/6 of it and still haven’t even gotten rid of my piles!

Is there a better way of going about this process I’m just not seeing? I don’t run fractals enough to get relics sufficient to blow on this, and while I do have ~150 laurels, those are so heavily time-gated it seems unwise to use them here.

Thanks.

I was merrily leveling crafting (leatherworking in this case) for the first time using one of those nice efficient guides, when I decided to do some minor “optimizing” in the order in which I did stuff to try to maybe save a few ingredients, since I had had a couple of critical successes that put my level above where the guide said it should be. Not sure what I did, but at the end I found myself at level 441 instead of the 450 I should be.. and now I am not sure what to do to get the last 9 levels without breaking the bank.

Can someone more experienced suggest something? Basically I’ve discovered everything on here already ankitten ot sure what else I need to do: http://www.gw2crafts.net/leatherworking_400.html

Hey guys, thanks for all the responses!

I’m probably going to start out with something that’s a blend of many of the ideas in your various builds. I’m currently leaning towards Sword/Warhorn + Hammer, with Longbow in reserve for when I need to range. Probably shouts-based with the elite warbanner, and for gear, soldier’s armor and both soldier’s and berserker’s trinkets that I’ll swap around to see how much defense I feel like I need in the mix.

Then I’ll adjust seeing how it goes.

I’ll miss the GS but it does seem like it doesn’t offer a lot in the way of support, and the sword #2 is better for mobility than I realized.

Thanks for these and any further suggestions.

Sturdy WvW build?

Qaelyn.7612

I’ve played warrior before, and while it’s not generally “my thing”, my guild is very “squishy-heavy” and so I’m trying to push my warrior up to 80 mainly for small group roaming in WvW. Can anyone recommend a good build for me to start with? I’m currently level 50 or so but I’d prefer a level 80 build, which I will adapt downward while I continue leveling.

Since the point here is to offset the many casters/thieves/rangers that everyone usually runs, I want something tanky.. but not too impotent to deal damage at the same time. Group support would also be great. (And yes, I know I might do better with a guardian, but a couple of others are leveling guardians. )

Thanks!

ETA: If it matters, I am currently running GS/Hammer with Warrior’s Sprint for mobility. I love mobility. GS seems really handy in WvW and hammer sorta speaks for itself.

Black, I’m still a relatively new engi and I run a build similar to yours… only power-based instead of condition. I find it quite useful in both PvE and WvW, and in PvP even moreso. In WvW I don’t find I’m very good at solo roaming; the build works much better in a small group, which is my preference anyway.

I haven’t played guardian yet, probably should since I enjoy these sorts of defensive characters. But I think the support engi is quite viable, and I even do a decent amount of damage, if not a lot.

There are no problems to solve.

Perhaps for you, but others want to actually enjoy proper WvW the way it was portrayed when the game launched, and that means solving some of the many problems that have been laid out numerous times.

I have no idea what you’re trying to accomplish with your posts, but they uniformly come across as incredibly self-centered and childish.

What it seems like is Anet has an idea of what they would like to implement next. They start a feedback post. What they hope for is that their idea is suggested in the feedback post. Then they can implement it and say “see, we listen to you”

If their idea isn’t introduced in their feedback post they implement it anyways.

I don’t think it’s anything that nefarious. It’s just a simple manifestation of the usual clash between plans and reality. I’m sure there are a lot of things they’d like to do but don’t have the resources for, and other things that are in progress but they aren’t allowed to talk about.

Years ago I worked as a programmer for a company that had its own in-house development platform. The first time I went to my boss with feedback for improvements, he put it on the “master todo list” and showed the list to me. It had hundreds of entries, and he basically said that anything with a priority below “A” likely would never be addressed. And that was a much simpler piece of software than GW2.

That said, I think it would be good for Arenanet to be a bit less coy about what’s coming in the future and give us more of an outline of their broader plans. There’s just too much “we want to hear what you want to see!” without follow-up, and too little transparency about what’s coming down the pike.

While making specific promises can lead to disappointment and anger, they seem to be leaning too far in the other direction now. There are serious issues with WvW, many of which have now been made worse by EotM, and a lot of folks who might have stuck around if they knew major improvements were coming are just going to wander away because of the lack of proper communication.

Once those people leave, it’s very hard to get them to come back. I started playing GW2 after leaving my previous MMO over these same sorts of issues (only to a much worse degree) and haven’t been seriously tempted to return. If WvW is allowed to rot on the vine, that’s not going to leave much reason for me to keep playing, given that PvP is even more neglected and there’s no real PvE endgame in GW2.

Stacking & Zerging

It’s pretty ridiculous to suggest that groups standing close together was not intended when virtually all group buffs, heals and defensive support skills are small radius PBAoE.

The problem is when a particular strategy offers numerous benefits but has no drawbacks. The AoE limit breaks the traditional risk/reward relationship that normally exists in this sort of game, by removing the danger associated with having everyone in one place.

I mean, you can go all the way back to P&P D&D. Would any DM create an encounter where all the monsters were one square away from each other? Would any party of player characters stack in one spot? Not likely.

I guess we’re a bit puzzled that the last WvW CDI on Commander tag functionality was LOADED with feedback and what we got was our own tags blocking our view (NOBODY asked for that…) and an increase in the price to buy them that specifically contradicts what was discussed about tags having value in both WvW and PvE situations.

All delivered in complete silence as to what was the goal of these changes is and without patch notes to boot.

This is a pretty legitimate complaint.

Asking for feedback is great, communication is helpful to all sides. But a valid argument can be made that asking for feedback, then ignoring it and in fact doing things contrary to what was requested, is worse than not asking for feedback in the first place. It’s frustrating and demoralizing.

The problems with WvW are manifest and well-known. A lengthy CDI process at this point strikes many players as simply kicking the can.

All green servers as alliance A, red B, blue C.

Even just picking, say, pairs of servers to complement each other balance wise might help. (Though could lead to squabbling and finger-pointing I suppose.)
