DR still kicks in way to soon.

Just one quick observation. Farmed the grenth event 5 times (4 fails, 1 succes, wasn’t intentional, pugs and all that). After completing the last trash group for the chest, the entire chain of attempts none of us noticed loot DR kicking in.

Previously, loot DR would kick in during the first attemp, usually while killing adds at the boss. It’s a very noticable difference.

Beyond this? I don’t know, not had time to do more farming yet.

While the ridiculous amount of cheating is indeed appalling, Desolation is not losing due to that. Just check the WvW maps and you will see that, at almost every hour of the day (except maybe a couple hours of prime time) we can only fight in EB and one borderland, with the other two having little to no Desolation presence.

We simply don’t have enough WvW players anymore, and this after less than two months from game release.

This is the truth.

Indeed.

I just wish more Deso players realised this and started caring to play better, just a little bit more. We can easily get more organised if people cared to try it instead of just joining, running to a nearby enemy gate to autoattack it, die a few times, and leave. We have almost no queue’s even at primetime anymore so that’s not a factor that prevents organised play like it did 4+ weeks ago. What is preventing us from playing properly, is not enough people caring to do so.

Cheating appears to be getting out of control? I do hope something is done about it. Bans alone are not enough, there needs to be a solid detection system that handles these players before they can do harm, not just after.

Let’s just say the remaining competent players are extremely outmanned by both our zerg mentality players, and enemy servers. Both work strongly against us, and it’s just one frustrating experience.

If it remains like this the entire week, I think I might have to do something else, because at some point the server will reach a point of no return in horrible WvW performance. There is only so much I can handle, and I’m no quick ship jumper by any means, I spend a lot of gold on WvW for the sole perpose of ‘getting the server in a stronger position’, but it feels wasted on a bunch of slackers that never contribute themselves.

As someone who bought this game mainly for WvW, I must say Desolation is not working too well for me. I couldn’t care less if we lost while we fought organised and simply got outmatched, but not this endless losing to complete stupidity of the largest portion of the ‘zerg players’, not to mention terrible attitudes (and a whole list of other issues).

Guilds like IRON and those who follow them are just about the only ones left still trying to keep up the fight, but even for them it is hard to try and direct the mindless zerg at times.

Hopefully it gets a bit better when all our leeches transfer to SR for free wins, then we’re left with just the people that can play properly. We won’t be winning the matchup, but atleast I wouldn’t be having a headache all day.

I guess, games you mentioned doesn’t have half-non-target system, siege weapons, lots of mobs and NPC and that quality of tons of visual effects?

You clearly haven’t seen EVE or some of the other games out there. 1000+ man battles are perfectly possible, but require a very well made engine and network code.

The numbers in GW2 are not impressive. 50 vs 50 is the usual max, and at 20v20 you already start getting rendering issues, at 30v30 you start noticing lag, at a 3 way battle of roughly the same numbers, you won’t be doing anything besides auto attacking and spamming tab to look for invisible targets.

The game is hardly in a playable state with all this.

But thanks for keeping us updated on your progress, ArenaNet.

WvW needs more work, and sPvP needs both more work, and love, as it feels even more lacking than WvW (I’m not even bothering with it).

But, if you want ‘hardcore PvP’ and a harsh world, GW2 was never advertised as a game dedicated to it. Infact it does the opposite in terms of having a harsh world.

I suggest you try a certain game that is relaunching November 20th. I’m not sure I can mention the name of the game here, competition and all that, but that’s where I will be for my ‘harsh world and open world PvP’, try reading up on it.

I play GW2 for WvW mainly myself, and PvE farming as a means to and end for WvW, and so far the game has been what I expected it would be, although more grindy in terms of gold to fund WvW playtime. It’s not going to be the game for me that will fill all my ‘needs’, and probably never will for as long as ArenaNet wishes to please all possible audiences.

GW2 is a good ‘filler’ game however, and the lack of a sub really supports that playstyle for this game. Get your serious PvP fix somewhere else, and come back and try GW2 a bit again a few content patches/expansion later. I’m sure that’s exactly what ArenaNet aimed for anyhow.

Move arborstone away from desolation and augury rock.

in WvW

Posted by: Raap.9065

Raap.9065

Arborstone certainly won this match with superior team play, AND night zerging.

Desolation deserves last because honestly I’ve seen horrible playing on our part. A few critical issues Desolation suffers from:

- Too many people using WvW as a leveling zone, the largest bulk of players are not 80 (seen by the arrow next to their level). Judging by their gear I’d say most are 10-30. In addition to being less usefull in combat, these are mostly the same players that don’t carry supply, don’t do as told when we finally get a commander (more on that later), farm mobs instead to level up, and generally just take up space.

- People rarely listen, and usually when they do listen, it just comes down to ‘following the shiny commander icon’. They still don’t read chat. If a commander makes one sharp turn, half the zerg would continue moving forward, a completely mindless mass. I often wonder, are they real players or bots? Trying to lead without a commander icon is almost impossible. From time to time people pull it off when we have a group of 30-ish competent people willing to organise themselves, then we end up dragging along the dead-weight zerg behind us, but they often lose interest when something shiny pops up.

- Gold buying/PvE commanders with completely no WvW experience, dragging out the blob to do stupid s**t like farming or camping jumping puzzles, and not working with proper WvW commanders in the same zone. They cause zergs to leave important objectives to do stupid things instead, and basically use the zerg for personal benefit. I really wish the commander skill book had an additional WvW related requirement before being bought. Maybe 200 hours spend inside WvW along with a minimum amount of objective captures? That would atleast tell us “This commander has played a fair amount of WvW and should know the basic mechanics”, where as right now when I see a commander (Unless I know this commander) I think “Oh God please not be another gold buyer with a skill book”. Sadly it is more often the second scenario.

- And finally, a lot of ‘Desolation players’ have no server pride and just transfer to the winning server. Tell me Arborstone, did you not notice guild tags you have seen on Deso, suddenly fight on your side? Have you not noticed some don’t speak French? We got the same issue when Desolation is winning against other servers, the queue’s fill up with people from the two losing servers. Free server transfers with no real limitations, what a great feature…

But all that said, we do have good players, we do have good WvW guilds, but having to put up with the above issues aswell as extreme score gaps, their morale is really low, and most are waiting for this matchup to complete.

Let’s hope next round is more balanced, let’s hope they finally shut down the transfers aswell, otherwise this will repeat. Let’s hope we all end up in a matchup that is fun for all servers involved.

As far as content goes, I liked the solo underworld mission they did one time (did they re-use it later? I can’t remember), and some of the other unique locations and activities.

I don’t remember other MMO’s doing so much as Arenanet did for events so I hope to see that continued in this game.

Hi Jon.

That is all.

Way to exaggerate by getting the camera as close as possible and making it look like the issue is far worse than it is. This is not how the game looks at all times so stop pretending it is. Your post is worthless at best and doesn’t help or contribute in anyway other than to advertise your childishness.

He’s actually not exaggerating anything. Have you tried looking up in this game at all? This is what happens.

Normally you don’t notice it because the game and current tunnel vision FOV force you to look at the ground for circles and targetting, but whenever you have to look up, to aim at a WvW wall or something else, this is what happens.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Raap.9065

A honest and understandable response on this subject. Wish you would have done the same regarding the camera/FOV thread you made, Jon. (Link to FOV thread.)

As some suggested, try speeding up your research of farming by focussing on Orr data collections on the ‘completed the game’ portion of the playerbase, which is growing larger over time and as such more people will become affected by the current DR system. This is the area where legit farmers spend their time, so you could potentially reduce the time frame for DR reduction from ‘weeks’ to something less, atleast for that area of the game.

This goes for both karma and loot drops ofcourse. Karma is nice but most people farm for drops so they can get gold, since karma is only useful for limited perposes, while gold is essential for even the game’s most basic features.

Camera and FOV (field of view)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Raap.9065

I’m sorry, but those are some really bad excuses.

Your first point has nothing to stand on. This is a PC title, where we have graphical settings. If something we like or feel we need (such as FOV) is causing FPS loss, we can just turn something else off, or simply play with less FPS. You aren’t making a console game where everyone has the same hardware, so I don’t understand why you even bring this argument up. Besides, people with triple monitors report no notable FPS decrease.

The art style looks bad using something other than a tunnel vision camera? If I was an artist on your team I’d take that argument as a direct insult. We can’t even see the world properly with this current camera and bad FOV combination, most of the time I am forced to look at the ground, exactly because of your third argument. Further more, having seen triple monitor setups and 3rd party tools that affect FOV, this is again an argument that holds nothing, other than the personal opinion of Arenanet which players do not agree with. You think the game looks bad outside of tunnel vision camera, yet I’ve seen no player that uses 3 monitors or a certain 3rd party tool that also claim this, or infact even the opposite, as the worlds looks better when we can actually see more than the ground. The “fisheye” effect is just an opposite extreme that only happens when using very large FOV settings on smaller resolutions.

Your final argument that it is needed to force positional awareness actually directly conflicts with your second argument regarding a tunnel vision camera making the art look better, as it forces people to look at the ground in a tunnel vision to watch for circles and other gameplay elements, such as targetting. Positional awareness does not change because you have a normal FOV (~90), you still have to pay equal attention, you still have to move and react to the situation, but you can instead do this without having a bad feeling. People with triple monitors can do this, I don’t see why everyone else has to suffer because you cannot seem to agree with your playerbase.

Edit: Just as a note, this goes for both horizontal and vertical FOV. Both are equally important. Increasing for example only horizontal FOV will cause the “fisheye” effect you speak of. Personally, I am actually mostly annoyed with the current low vertical FOV and rarely being able to see more than the ground because of it.

Desolation - current state and queue times

in WvW

Posted by: Raap.9065

Raap.9065

Not very long queue’s. Problem is, that when we start winning again against a more normal opponent, people from the two losing servers will transfer to Desolation for free wins, the same way we got players transfering away from Desolation when we lose.

In short, as much as I would like to see more organised guilds on Desolation, I fear it will never be possible because the free transfers do not allow for organised play to happen without sitting in a queue for hours. All the slackers take up player slots when honestly, I’d rather see them stuck on the french servers they so easily transfer to. Spineless cowards and useless when they actually play for Desolation since they are the same types that never care to read chat.

The best time to do any kind of transfering is when they finally announce they will be shutting down free transfers, or have heavier penalties for transfering, such as a 7 day lockout from WvW post-transfer, not transfering to servers you face in the current matchup, ect.

As far as playing goes with the numbers we still have on Desolation, MagnusLL said almost everything there is to say. We hold parts of maps during normal hours, we lose every single holding at night. We can have good fights, as long as you avoid the maps that have no leadership in them. Playing in train wrecks is slightly more annoying than eating your own fingers, and there is no leading the mindless ones unless you got the shiny commander icon, and even then, the mindless ones will NOT read chat.

But all that said, the number of organised WvW guilds is growing, and in some maps they have formed alliances. It is however not enough to cover all maps, yet.

I was refering to your opinion regarding what is ‘the highest achievement for an MMO’. It made me rather sad inside that people find more enjoyement in killing a mob than other things.

I could write a list of things that can be at the very least equally accomplishing in an MMO setting, without involving raids. In the end, it mostly comes down to opinion, but this was once the general opinion of an MMO player prior to the PvE raid formula taking MMORPG’s into a death grip.

MMO’s are social games, where the real achievement is doing something that everyone else can see. Sadly this is seemingly lost with each new themepark released.

Edit: That’s not to say the system is worse than in most wow-clones, but I was just expecting a little more ‘dynamic’ in ‘dynamic events’. Oh, and please remove hearts, if it wasn’t for the mobs, Orr was actually the only non-boring area in the game as I didn’t have a linear path of quest hubs to follow.

Do as you hyped your game about, innovate.

All good things must come to an end, and in the Elementalist’s case, your only good thing must come to an end. That ability was the only ‘cool’ thing staff air attunement had to offer, outside of swiftness and a highly unreliable stun (and lots of unwanted mob aggro).

I wish they made it 1500 range atleast, it was great in WvW to snipe people and siege equipement on walls, but ofcourse, the line of sight was an issue, but the range was nice. Having it at 1500 makes it fill a niche role without being exploitable like it was.

And ofcourse, right now because of the long lasting time it is very easy for an enemy to see this attack comming and not only timely dodge, but just run out of range.

The only reason that I can think of why we can’t use it is because of the way the world culling system works. Any player expecting mass scale pvp to be anything other than a complete failure in any game ever should recognize it’s his own fault for having unrealistic expectations. I have been waiting 15 years. I am absolutely sure now beyond any doubt – it will never happen.

I could list a few games that did it alright, and one in specific that did it perfectly, and this game is having a relaunch in November. Not going to mention names since Arenanet doesn’t like people comparing games, but I will say that large scale has been done succesfully before.

Regarding Arenanet’s patch speed for WvW, yes, everyone I know noticed it, and is annoyed and concerned about it in terms of what it means for the future of the game.

My personal concern is that their code and/or game patching process is a mess which is why it takes them so long to fix anything besides minor changes. Their live team might be really small aswell, and they are focussed on PvE right now.

Sadly, PvE players that are not interested in PvP or contribute to the server can also join WvW to leech karma for their PvE perposes. These are also the same people that jump servers to farm on the winning side.

Perhaps in WvW, karma needs to stop being rewarded, and more badges and silver instead. Makes WvW less grindy, cuts out farmers, and reduces the queue. Triple-win scenario?

EU login server down, again.

If you’re still ingame, don’t leave the map you are in. Changing map will boot you.

We hardly have queue’s on Desolation anymore. At peak, the Eternal Battlegrounds queue can be around 2 hours, and borderlands about an hour. At any other time, I get in instantly or in about 15 minutes. (Edit: Why does the filter filter out ‘EB queue’?)

Our ‘nightzerg’ is in reality a single group of players, about 30-40 people max, going from map to map. If we got too much competition in one map, we simply retreat from that map, claim holdings in other maps, and try again later. This gives others the impression we got zergs on all the other maps, while really it’s just the same borderlands group going around the maps, aiming for the weakest defended holdings.

Anyway, sh**talking aside, it was an interesting matchup for us when compared to fighting the two 24/7 servers – who have queue’s at 5 AM in the morning. We’ll see if we can play a bit beter this comming matchup, if not, see you next week.

Question: Is anti-farm code implemented in WvWvW??!!??

in WvW

Everyone I speak to in WvW noticed a strong decrease in the amount of badges that are dropping, since a few patches ago. I’m not sure which patch, but it might have been the one where the first loot changes got added.

It’s not a question of if it got reduced or not, that is for certain. The question is, will this be undone? Right now everyone is doing jumping puzzles and trying to burn down holding lords as those two methods are the only real way of obtaining badges now.

The problem is that badges not only provide (extremely expensive) WvW gear, they also make playing WvW exclusively without PvE farming slightly more managable as you could buy blueprints with them. With a reduced droprate, I have the need to buy blueprints with gold, and since I don’t like to farm a day of PvE so I can do a day of WvW, I feel slightly forced to start using the item shop to stay floating in terms of money, or, alternatively, contribute a lot less to my server like the other gate-auto-attack-only-crowd.

This should be looked into, along with the amount of silver you earn in WvW. Perhaps make holding upgrades cost badges instead of silver, and still increase badge drop rates to higher than ‘pre-nerf’ (let’s just call it that for now).

[BUG] Annoying alarm sound in WvW. Requires force quit.

How to prevent getting the sound bug in the future: Set your audio quality 1 level below max. It will not fix ongoing audio bugs, but after a client restart you will not have it ever again.

Ugh, tonight was just terrible, both AR borderlands and Desolation borderlands were swarmed with people not listening to leaders and just doing their own thing, and generally being worthless. I had to put another 5 or so people on my ignore list for being complete *******. People whine, b*tch and complain in chat all the time, people flat out decline orders from commanders telling them to “f*** off I play WvW my way”, and so on.

Judging by today’s score I’d assume this was happening all day.

Seems like we’re making a jump backwards again.

Honestly, all this nonsense makes me less interested in playing the game. Why can’t people that don’t intend to play properly just stay away from WvW and do PvE or something? Ugh.

I did a little bit of testing with these aswell and noticed no difference. I hope it stays that way though, so let’s not give them idea’s for more “it’s not an advantage it’s a convenience to earn more in the same timeframe than others” cash shop items.

Lot’s of nasty things are happening all the time now. People walking through walls, attacking people inside keeps/towers from underground, altars being destroyed and orbs and keep lords being bugged out this way, people flying in plain sight…

On top of that, a lot of bugs are still in WvW since day one. It’s becomming really frustrating to play WvW with all this stuff going on, and meanwhile Arenanet is not saying a word, and patches are practically dedicated to slowing down the rate at which PvE players farm things, on top of the already slow patch rate everyone is complaining about.

It’s called WvW armor (power/vit/tough). The fact this is only available in WvW is the entire perpose, it’s good for PvP (survivability).

As for crests, I see runes as the superior option. It doesn’t help that crests don’t have an exotic item rank, however. If they had an exotic rank, I see them being used more often.

Not a lot to report. Organisation is on the same level as the past few days but I’ve started seeing a few more commanders that I haven’t seen before.

The Gunnars Hold and Augury Rock perposed alliance between the two servers seems to have set us on fire, we’ve been beating both servers the entire day, and even now at 5 AM in the morning we have about 80% of all the holdings. Common chat subject is the linking of the infamous thread where a GH ‘leading guild’ is asking AR to team up.

I haven’t seen this many Desolation players in WvW in a while…

In other news, GH Garrison keep lord is still bugged.
