Maybe replace it with a firebomb shot that burns enemies and creates a firefield where it lands?

Bit too much like the mortar secondary fire option. Which by the way, also has problems making it less usefull than the primary fire mode. But that one is easy to solve; Just make the explosion and fire field a bit bigger.

Not to mention the treb primary fire is essentially a fire bomb aswell. Variation please!

The Gravel option is from my experience, entirely useless.

The concept of a wide-spread shot that damages player characters is ok, but it suffers from a lot of problems.

1- The shots bug out, a lot. The gravel projectiles stack on eachother as if it was a single projectile. With no AOE to speak of, the target area becomes so small that hitting anything with it is impossible.
2- When the shot works, it still only fires 4 very small projectiles with no real AOE. The chances of hitting anything at all are very small.
3- Loading up the shot takes too long. Since this fire mode is intended to hit mobile targets, the slow turning, slow loading catapult struggles to aim for something. On top of that, the projectiles are very easy to dodge as their travel time is slow.
4- Even assuming you hit a player with a gravel projectile, the damage is a lot smaller than the boulder, and has no knockback/interupt component. It also cannot hit siege weapons reliably.
5- Does entirely nothing as a counter to rams behind doors.

It needs changes and fixes to make it useful. I could come up with a long list of options, but comming up with idea’s is simple enough, anyone could do it.

I’m really missing orbs as an objective. I’m not missing the buffs they provided, however.

I really hope the 15th patch is more than just PvE fluff stuff, WvW needs some love.

WvW, being made up of different maps, should easily be able to see more maps of different sizes and even playstyles added. A small/medium sized map with only a few holdings in certainly interesting… but as is having a map significantly larger than the current maps. Variation is key to keeping WvW less stale, so I welcome almost any addition as long as it doesn’t mess up the PvP.

No 50% reduced fall damage trait?

The fall damage traits are such big must-haves for a large part of the game they are essentially considered mandatory traits. Try traveling PvE or WvW zones without it, it is a pain in the behind (as any Elementalist should know too well).

I too, did not know all other proffesions had a trait for this besides Elementalists, until I rolled a Thief and found out. Surprised by the lack of balance at first, I became too used to having a fall damage trait, to the point where I’m having a hard time playing without it. Many others would agree.

I actually think this is the only real must-have trait that 7 out of 8 proffesions have, effectively taking up a major trait slot, and if your build doesn’t involve putting points into the line that offers the fall damage trait, you’re kind of forced to change your build so it does, or, like the Elementalist, are forced to take the long way around for just about every location in the game.

So, rather than giving the Elementalist a trait for this aswell, I believe the best solution is to instead make the 50% reduction a base for all proffesions, while still leaving the traits for their secondary fall damage effects. This will make them optional, like all other traits are, and ofcourse Elementalists will feel less forgotten.

Lost Shores: Dignified anticipation!

With the few details we have so far, I can’t say I’m too interested yet.

A small new island (judging by the map) that doesn’t seek to replace Orr ‘end game zones’, a new dungeon and sPvP map, and a 3 day pre-event. Probably some bug fixes aswell.

At this point, it sounds a lot smaller than the halloween update, and I’m hoping the update contains a lot of WvW fixes/additions, but so far we’ve really heard nothing.

And judging by the lack of posts in this thread I’d say the general anticipation is on the low side. Give us more reasons to be looking forward to this update, ArenaNet?

Why is there Magic find?

I’m not really a farmer, but Magic Find gear always hit me as something that goes against the general encouraged playstyles (play well, don’t slack/get carried). As a non-farmer and non-dungeon runner I’m actually slightly confused and I’m sure more people are: Is Magic Find gear considered required for obtaining loot (aswell as mystic forge)? I really don’t like the concept in any way, as a player who would rather play as good as he can, using gear that helps my team or performance.

So, personally, I’d prefer to see Magic Find removed from gear, runes and sigils, because of the way it forces players to use it. The consumable buffs seem ok, they don’t change your method of playing the game other than losing out on a few stats other food would give, although I’d personally still prefer the food buff to also be removed, leaving just the item shop buff. Not to make the game ‘pay to win’, but because the item shop buff doesn’t remove anything in order for you to use Magic Find.

Result: Everyone plays for best team play and personal performance. Gear and food buffs that help you play the role you prefer, with no feeling of being forced to use Magic Find at the cost of the rest, but, still keeping the optional 50% Magic Find booster.

Why Orb Removal Will be Very Bad for WvW

A lot of people fail to see the positive aspects the orbs provided, which I mentioned in the other thread.

Yes, the orb buffs were too powerful, and shouldn’t have affected stats. Yes, hacking is an issue, but just because the orbs are gone, doesn’t mean hacking is. Mesmers will continue to teleport into your keeps and open up portals, siege will continue to blow up from players you can’t target.

My biggest concern now that orbs are removed, is that WvW will become a game where the only thing that matters is score. The game is now entirely based on generic score gains in a non-persistant world. It’s just an overgrown sPvP mode right now.

Current situation: Defend holdings? No reason to, nothing of value to protect, let’s just zergball through the maps chain capping holdings to gain the highest potential points income, the server who can do this most hours of the day, wins.

The 15th patch really needs some massive WvW updates to keep things interesting.

A lot of you guys aren’t thinking of the positive game aspects that will be removed with this, but only the negative ones.

- No sense of accomplishment for taking ot defending orbs.
- Less reason to care about a keep, all keeps are now just generic point generators.
- Cross-map communication for orb defense will be a thing of the past. People would rather just keep potential points per 15 mins high, for which they often don’t need to map-travel.
- Those moments where you defend an orb keep against impossible odds at off-peak hours, their sence of accomplishment and importance will be gone.
- Ect.

May I suggest to, rather than completely removing them, you change the buff to 10/20/30% Exp, 10/20/30% karma, 10/20/30% gold reward increase, 10/20/30% gathering node yield, 10/20/30% higher badge drop rate? This will make them powerful, for non-combat reasons.

Orbs are powerful indeed, and a problem for unbalanced matchups, and certainly an issue for hackers. But hackers always find their ways into keeps, orb or no orb. They might be less interested in targetting orb keeps without the orbs in the game, but it won’t solve that problem.

On the other hand, in balanced matches, the orbs are an interesting mechanic. I’d like to see the feature stay but with the change to the buff I mentioned.

Why remove features when a very simple change can provide the same result? Please reconsider!

As mentioned, we asked for a fix, not a removal, don’t take the easiest way out… Orbs add to the game, they add a sence of accomplishment when you manage to take one or defend one for a long time. Just change the buff to one that doesn’t affect stats.

Besides, how will you fix future orb related bugs when bugs will no longer have the possibility to show up ingame? Unless you actually are not planning on re-adding them.

If you still HAVE to remove them, atleast add a new feature to WvW to compensate. Orb control is a critical aspect of WvW… You didn’t remove dungeons from PvE when they were broken, did you?

A recent patch made all borderlands share puzzle rewards as far as I could tell. You can do 1 borderland and the EB and that’s it per day.

I thought it was just me forgetting timers… Can someone else confirm? I won’t be able to do puzzles this match up.

They are what anet makes them and that clearly includes both playstyles.

Including both playstyles is fine. But 4 tiers of dungeon runs is overkill. Many players simply do not enjoy dungeons.

Can you imagine the complaints if they added a jumping puzzle monthly requirement? This one is on the same scale of ‘do not like’ for PvP/WvW players.

I’d really like to have a visible cooldown timer somewhere in the user interface. Happened more than once that I would go to a puzzle only to find out I completed it 22 or so hours ago, and have to wait. In general I also think 24 hour cooldowns are just annoying, eventually you get to a point after doing them every time that it pushes the respawn time out of normal hours. Cutting chest cooldowns to 22 hours would solve that.

They are fine in terms of rewards, I do wish the borderlands puzzles were a little bit…. dynamic. Maybe every server restart, some rocks should change location, ect. Since you need to do this puzzle 3 times, some variation wouldn’t hurt.

Its going to be close this week, although its been full of drama its also been a great showing of solidarity from Deso. Like you have suggested ive already brought this up a few times, a Deso community forum would be well worth it imo, a great way fro our guilds and server to communicate to each other and easier to moderate than here (I would love to do one but i wouldnt have the time to moderate because of RL commitments)

The best form of moderation, is very light moderation. The real problem is non-deso players gaining acces, so acces should have to be granted manually so only verified deso guild members (and solo players that are ‘known’) could read and post. A lot of effort initially, but it should result in minimal moderation needs in the long run.

The WvW monthly is easy to obtain.

The dungeon monthly this month however is a big kick in the kittens for any WvW player… Why do we have to run dungeons? It’s the most complete opposite of what many PvP/WvW players enjoy doing, and I for one, rather eat my own fingers than to do a terribly boring ‘dungeon’. Basically, no monthly for a lot of players this month, thanks!

Monthly/daily achievements should be completable in ANY aspect of the game like previously, not be EXCLUSIVE to one aspect of the game.

If the monthly was 1 dungeon run, I guess I’d be ok with it, as that’s roughly the same in time-spend as 50 WvW kills. But it has 4 tiers, so I’m guessing it is a lot more than one run.

I don’t care a whole lot in the end, but it is just annoying.

Desolation players only should be posting here. If this thread also gets locked because outsiders want to flame at us, I think we as a server need to look at an external solution. Perhaps one of our big guilds can extend their forums for the server as a whole?

Anyway, VS has alarm clocked our biggest off-peak (EU morning hours), to some point of succes. Current scores as of this writing is attached to this post.

We spend all night and morning defending the orb in VS borderlands, and man what a battle, good job to all who stayed up to defend it. As of now, the keep hasn’t been lost in over 24 hours.

If we wan’t to win this match we’re going to have to put in an all-nighter tonight!

Stealth vs. Supply camps

It’s a valid tactic that actually counters zerging. Anything that counters zerging is usually a good thing.

A thief can hold a circle long enough for reinforcements to arrive so the camp can be properly fought over and not just trading owners.

But, it’s also very easy to kill thieves doing this, if your group knows what it is doing.

Siege Golem

Golems are fine in what they do, but I’d like to see their utility skills improved.

Alpha golem:
- Deflect field seems to be broken or not working all the time.
- The pull ability has a too long cast time and too short range. Should be 1500 range so you can pull people off walls with it.

Omega golem:
- Same issues with deflect as Alpha golem.
- Flamethrower AOE seems extremely short in range compared to the animation.
- Missile barrage is kinda ‘meh’. Big charge up animation and what happens? 4 small rockets fall on the ground next to the golem. Could do with a change on the ‘coolness’ factor.

But both their primary attacks are very strong and should not be changed for the obvious balance issues.

I’m going to stop caring and responding to whiners from now on, you lost entertainment value after the 10th time you come up with the same old boring complaints.

Good matchup! Enjoying the fights 24/7, also had some nice battles for ascension bay on arbor BL this morning (30~ mins ago), VS seemed to have a massive force but we called in help from other maps and managed to hold the bay (which had the orb too).

Desolation a small 5k points away from reaching VS in score, so we’ll be having plenty more battles to come!

On a side note, the orb in Deso BL keeps bloody resetting on it’s own, it’s like the 4th time this match. The quaggen don’t kill the altar, the altar just blows up, orb on the ground, and we can’t put it back even with spamming F on the altar. Rather annoying because then the orb respawns up north and basically becomes a free give-away.

Mad King's voice

The game needs a villian outside halloween that can deliver memorable lines like this.

He is, in my opinion, one of the few well voiced characters in the game, and the only ‘bad guy’ with a voice worth remembering. I mean honestly when I try to look back at my personal story… I can’t remember any of those characters, their lines, their voice acting, other than Traherne, and not in a positive way; His lines were so ego-centric, that it has become the only reason I even remember his character.

I’m hoping to see this kind of quality in personality, voice acting and lines in future content, atleast for characters that matter.

Regarding the zoom out bug from the MK dungeon some people are mentioning: This needs to be fixed. It breaks WvW by allowing people to shoot directly on to walls, and around corners they really couldn’t be able to target without this x2 zoom.

For example: I can place an arrow cart outside a wall, zoom out, and fire directly INTO the keep/tower, over the walls. This is why a higher zoom out range likely never will be added officially, and why this bug should hopefully be gone after the dungeon is removed.

WvW is a nonstop gold sink for any serious WvW player. I easily spend 10g or so a week on it, and that’s while trying to save as much as possible.

WvW is expensive for WvW-only players. Wish there were more ways WvW-only players could obtain means to pay bills, upgrades, ect.

I’ve done the Mad King 4 times. Not once did I get any exotics. 4 times was enough for me and I’ll not be doing it again.

Same, although I did get 5 fine transmutation stones out of one chest.

People like to cry nerf after they had their luck-streak so others won’t get the same chance. Thing is though, I don’t feel like particpating in a loot lottery of any kind, it just isn’t fun, mainly because I’m not a lucky person. Infact I got just a single exotic this entire halloween event and that was from a pre-nerf labyrinth chest.

So yeah, I’m on the same boat with the other unlucky people who think this event isn’t exactly giving… Anything of note…

I noticed something now, though. Try looking directly down to the ground, you get a strong drop in FPS when you do this while running this FOV option.

Seems strange since the culling system would normally cull things not looked at, and looking to the ground would result in higher FPS, but with this enabled, the FPS drops dramaticly.

FPS is fine when looking any other direction.

Another issue: With this enabled, terrain reflections in the water are messed up, edges of terrain that touch the water do not connect with their reflections, and leave ‘gaps’.

(Using an Nvidia GPU, max settings)

Great improvement, and at the most crowded area in Lions Arch, only a 2~FPS loss.

Personally, I’d prefer the FOV to be just a little bit higher than this, but, right now it is already a MASSIVE improvement over the previous tunnel-vision FOV.

A vertical camera position slider also won’t hurt, as other people mentioned.

It’s rather annoying they keep nerfing things post-release.

I ‘farmed’ it briefly, got one exotic out of I think 4 chests. My first exotic drop ever. Apparantly now I am told that this was ‘too much’ and has now been nerfed? That’s just plain unfair honestly.

Not only are lucky players now sitting on a few exotics, for most players, this was also the only way of getting exotics drops, and potentially something where, for once, players that don’t farm 24/7 could get something.

Now it’s on a daily timer? A daily timer to have a slight chance for a random exotic… Wonderful. What next, you make the jumping puzzle easier and give less?

Guess for most people who ever played SNES its is.
Ages ago when games weren’t easy as hell…

It reminded me a lot of donkey kong’s toxic tower level where acid kept rising and you had to keep jumping like crazy to reach the top. I failed so many times on that level, just as I did here, but that’s great!

I thought it was great, completed it on all my characters. Yeah, it’s a little annoying to do on a Charr, I wish there were consumables that made you smaller for a period, but other than that, it’s fine.

As someone from Deso since the start id like to point out that making our ques +1h and keeping everything capped so that we cant recap things for karma/money is simply moronic.

WvW is not a PvE farming zone. Try Cursed Shore in Orr for farming karma/money. If you prefer to farm over doing well in WvW, consider joining a server with a like-minded view, lower down the tiers.

Desolation has too many dedicated WvW players right now to care about people’s farming needs, when most WvW players already got more karma than they know what to do with it, anyway.

10/19 Desolation vs Far Shiverpeaks vs Kodash

Good news everyone, I’m back on the forums again!

So I’ve been reading the last few pages and still see a lot of FS complaining and saying “Desolation would do the same if the roles were reversed.”.

I’d like to tell you that we have been there, several times, and eventually it got us dropped to a low tier bracket. Then all the leeches left the server and the remaining guilds gained valuable time to organise themselves into what you see today. Even a lot of our ‘random players’ got better understanding of how WvW works and which commanders to follow.

We got pushed down and instead of complaining about it, we rallied and came back. During the bracket vs Seafarers Rest we we’re 3rd, but re-organised and got 2nd, we would have had a good shot at 1st but the 7 day match was too short to allow us to close that gap. The following matchup we continued this progress and then RUIN joined in aswell.

Desolation has been nightcapped upon plenty of times, to the point where it looked like Deso was no longer a viable WvW server. It looked grim, but we rallied thanks to the efforts of our WvW guilds. We didn’t complain about it, we never gave up, and now here we are.

So this makes me wonder, why are FS and Kodash not able to do the same? Chances are this is your first big blow and you need a week or two to recover and re-organise, just like Deso had to. Taking a blow like this is good, it purges the farmers from your WvW queue, and gives you time to re-organise.

But do everyone a favour, re-organise yourselves ingame, and don’t use that enegry to instead complain on the forums.

i do believe we came in through 2 doors (both the north ones actually) and took it less than 20 minutes after “commander” gray left after saying he couldn’t do it because there were 5 arrow carts on a door…. it wasn’t as heavily defended as you guys have claimed in the thread, there just wasn’t anyone attacking it in a solid enough force.

Kodash had a ton of siege inside, the hacking group cleared them all, and then RUIN arrived on the map to ‘take over’ once Gray asked people to leave the keep because we had a cheater portaling people inside.

Kodash defended really well and it’s a shame the cheating happened, but we still don’t know who did it.

I dont mind the nightcappers, happen to use with VS and then recently with VS and ER. Point is Deso are nothing without Ruin, and you guys acting your all mighty coz you might beat FS for the first time and get back into T1. Where was this before?

We beat you with hardly any RUIN members online in the evening. Last time I’m saying it, since apparantly you got problems reading. Perhaps I need to translate it to russian?

Regarding the hacker: Report his username to leaders of IRON and RUIN so we can figure out who it was.

I can confirm the presence of a hacker/exploiter who then created a portal for our zerg to get inside your keep. Our commander ordered everyone to leave the keep when we realised this was happening. Sorry about it, but it happens to all of us.

I haven’t seen this ‘bad behavior’ from RUIN yet, rather the opposite, I’ve enjoyed playing with them. I’m a one man solo guild not part of any alliances, so if this was as kittenome claim, I should have noticed it, right?

I’ve also never seen RUIN members pick on other guilds, anywhere. Not saying it isn’t happening, but I play WvW all the time and I’ve simply never seen it.

When you’re playing on a map where one of our large guilds is present, you really should (if they allow it) join their voice coms. Chat communication does not work well in many situations where fast action is required.

If you’re a serious WvW player, join their coms, it helps everyone if you simply communicate and be a little social.
