Missing something in Kryta World Completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rachiia.6045

Rachiia.6045

I just returned to GW2 after a break of a few months. I had world completion before I left, but just for the sake of completeness I’m trying to finish off some of the places that were added since I left.

I’m missing something in World Completion for the Kryta region and I can’t figure out what it is. The achievement for Krytan Explorer is at 174/175. I’ve found all the POI, Vistas, etc. for the Kryta regions. Specifically, these regions:

Lion’s Arch
Divinity’s Reach
Queensdale (1–17)
Kessex Hills (15–25)
Gendarran Fields (25–35)
Harathi Hinterlands (35–45)
Bloodtide Coast (45-55)
Southsun Cove (80)
Chantry of Secrets

But the Achievement for Kryta still stands at 174/175. Any idea what I’m missing?

Thanks

Is creating gifts and items made from gifts the only way to level my artificer above 400?

Just got back to the game and I’m trying to figure this out. Thanks for any help.

Does anyone have another link they’d recommend besides this one?:

SAB: Ok what kind of game is this?

Game launched and its a beautiful fantasy world, possibly one of the best ive played.
But im starting to see it go down hill pretty fast.

I mean what exactly is Anets goal here? Is it not a fantasy game ?
It had some questionable concepts at first, then back packs and hoodies came out in the store…..really ? theres almost nothing worth buying as is, and 1 of the 3 armor sets looks like a reject from a bad kiss concert superhero convension..

But now theres the super box…..now im seeing people running around with digital monkeys and theres anoying digital effects and clouds……

So what is Anets goal here? some kind of hybrid game ? will I be able to buy a ford truck in the cash shop soon ? maybe a skate board ?

Am I the only one disapointed by this stuff? The game has the potential to be a fantastic fantasy world and instead its turning into some kind of mashup of american mmo game play and nonsensical japanese anime styling .

Can someone explain the point im missing ?

Mostly, I agree with you. It’s not in tune with the world ANet has created with GW2 and I find it more than a bit jarring. It would be like watching Game of Thrones and suddenly have the characters pull out light sabers, or have the screen switch to black and white.

However, it’s just nonsensical fun. People love goofy stuff like this. If that’s the direction ANet wants to go in, that’s cool.

It’s clear this isn’t* suppose to be a grim, hardcore immersion game. Other MMOs – Warhammer, Age of Conan, The Secret World – have tried that and failed. I think they failed for lots of other reasons than being true to their theme, but if the unending success of WoW has taught MMO developers one thing, it’s better to be goofy than not.

Those players who hate this kind of thing will start jumping ship and go to Neverwinter and ESO when they’re available. I know I will.

I do think this kind of thing would be more appropriate if ANet has set the tone for humorous stuff like this earlier. If it had always been a light-hearted, joking romp of an MMO, no one would care.

But to be completely fair, the Asura have always been a bit goofy, I guess.

Frustrated by lack of Black Lion Keys

This is a long article on what’s in a BL chest. It hasn’t been updated to include the backpacks, but otherwise it’s accurate. It basically says it’s not worth it to buy a BL key because there’s so much junk in the chests, now.

http://www.manylaughs.com/2013/01/24/guild-wars-2-is-it-worth-it-to-buy-a-black-lion-key-updated/

So don’t worry about the keys, not until Anet revamps the chests.

Lionguard Lyns gone - not a fair warning?

Rachiia.6045

tbh, I didn’t even see it in the patch notes. That’s the problem. They’re patch notes, where I expect to see corrections to the game, not announcements.

I forget for sure, but I remember seeing announcements about the Wintersday vendor going away in several places. There was even this post:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/festive-lionguard-leaving-tyria/

Was there a similar post for Lyns? I didn’t see one. So there might be an issue with consistency, as well. The front page of the web site is where they posted that reminder about the festive lionguard, why didn’t they do the same for Lyns?

Oh, and those news items show up on your game launcher, so there’s no excuse for missing those. So please put Lyns back for a few days, make an announcement in the news about it, as was done for the festive vendor, and all is good.

Was it stated why she was disabled? Why didn’t they just remove her fully instead of disabling her?

Idk if it stated specifically why, but some people stockpiled comms due to an exploit with a piece of jewelry. The developers made a mistake and put out a recipe that only required one ecto glob to craft an exotic amulet, if I remember right. So exploiters made the amulets very cheap, dumped them in to the forge for booku comms and turned them in for keys.

You know what your mom said about a few people ruining it for everyone.

There’s a website. I don’t remember the name because I’m not a monster basher but I’ve heard good things about it.

Hey I found it:

http://www.gw2lfg.com/

I use that, but as I said, it’s a really poor substitute for the real thing. It’s just a long list of people looking for groups. It doesn’t match people up or anything like that. Plus, there can be lots of people listed who might have logged. There’s a whole host of problems with it.

It was nice of someone to do this w/o advertisements and such, but the game needs a real dungeon finder.

Rachiia.6045

Why doesn’t this game have a dungeon finder?

Whenever I want to run a dungeon, now, I seem to spend about half my time in-game trying to find a group. That’s a slight exaggeration, but the effort required to get a group is clearly increasing. Last night I was in LA for an hour trying to find a dungeon group.

That’s part of the problem, too. If I want to run a dungeon, it’s best to hang out in LA and either spam Map or wait for someone else who’s spamming Map. So I’m not out doing my daily or other things, I’m just standing around, which sucks.

gw2lfg.com is nice to have but it’s a poor substitute for the real thing. I’m not sure why the game doesn’t have a dungeon finder – it seems like a huge oversight to me. Is it hard to implement? Harder than guesting?

Some people like to run dungeons and being able to get a group – even a pug group – helps keep them playing. Speaking from personal experience, I’ve sometimes given up looking for a group and just gone off and played something else.

Also, I’d like to run some of the less popular dungeons, more. I like the gear from CoE, but not a lot of people want to run it, because it can take a long time. Having a dungeon finder would make it easier to get a group for the less popular dungeons.

So please, please implement a dungeon finder.

Rachiia.6045

I did a lot of PvP when the game first started, but I got distracted by all the PvE aspects of the game. Also, PvP didn’t count in any way for my character – no coin or XP – so it was easy to put PvP aside.

I haven’t PvPed for months, but over the last couple of weeks I’ve been PvPing more and doing my PvP daily, so I’m doing at least 3 matches a day, sometimes more. Here’s the thing: All my matches in free PvP are 1v1 or, if I’m lucky, 2v2. This kinda sucks. These matches really aren’t meant for small teams like this. They’re certainly not as much fun this way.

Is this just the state of PvP, now? Is everyone doing tournaments or are there just not enough people in PvP? Am I playing at the wrong time, maybe? Usually I log, right after work. I’d think that would be the best time.

Fear of Ban

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Rachiia.6045

Rachiia.6045

Oh, I want to add this:

One consequence of my ban, which directly affects ArenaNet, is I don’t spend real money in the gem store, anymore. Before the ban I easily spent more than $15 a month in the gem store, more than the monthly sub of other MMOs. The ban kinda soured me on the game, plus if there’s a possibility I’m going to get banned when I’ve done no wrong, I don’t really want to spend my money on the game.

So these bans and the way they handle them have had a monetary impact on ArenaNet, at least in my case.

Fear of Ban

I was caught in the bot ban. I wasn’t botting, but I was in the Cursed Shores farming. Except for the rather obvious fact I wasn’t a bot (http://www.manylaughs.com/2012/11/09/guild-wars-2-6-reasons-im-an-obvious-bot/), I still got hit with the banhammer.

That made me change my playstyle. I stopped farming, almost completely, and I don’t go to the Cursed Shores like I used to.

While I understand the concerns about botting and exploits that affect the tp, I am concerned with the way ANet appears to handle these issues. The first (only?) response seems to be a “permanent” ban. Then it’s up to the player to appeal and get their account reinstated. I wonder how many people just walk away.

Are there suspensions? Are there warnings? Maybe a more tempered response is needed.

And it would be nice to get some sort of compensation after your wrongfully banned account was reinstated. So far, there’s not even a mea culpa. Heck, I’d settle for an apology.

Monthly - plz stop w/ the fractals!

I have zero against doing fractals. They’re fine. I like running them, but this is the third month in a row it’s been a requirement for the monthly.

I love the fact you included jumping puzzles, this time, for instance. (FYI, I suck at jumping, but I love variety.) So why not shake things up more and have something else besides fractals, again?

In fact, why not shake up all the requirements? I see world invaders is up as a requirement, again. Sheesh. Has that ever not been a requirement? Why not say something like do 15 WvW events? Capture keeps? Lots you could do there if you’re looking for a WvW requirement.

Let’s have more variety in the monthly. That’s all.

“Rebalanced to reduce overabundance of some items” Which items have been rebalanced? Is it just the gathering tools or is the Black Lion Salvage kit less likely to fall? That’s a big statement for no information.

That’s my point. I’ve read that post, but it’s not clear at all about what to expect from a BL chest.

The mouse-over description says, “Contains a random prize, a random buff and mystery tonics.” If ANet would be kind enough to clarify what a “random prize” is, that would help a lot?

What can come out of a BL chest has changed, but is there an official word somewhere on what can be inside? I’ve searched through the forums a little and didn’t see anything. I did find some posts about things that had been added, but nothing that definitively said, here are the things that might be inside a BL chest.

You used to get a consumable or service item, a tonic and a booster. It looks like there’s some money in the chests, sometimes, now. Would that be considered a consumable? Are the 3 items now completely random or is there still a consistent formula? Will I always get a consumable/service item, a tonic and a booster, now, in other words?

If there isn’t an official post, one would be very helpful. If there was something summarizing what to expect from a BL chest, now, I know I’d be more inclined to get more.

Thanks

Is GW2 becoming less and less solo friendly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rachiia.6045

Rachiia.6045

I soloed a level 80 character and completed 80% of the maps but, now I’m finding more and more non-solo friendly content.

- Forced grouping for last of the Personal story missions

- Fractals & monthly achievements can’t be done solo.

- Non solo maps (Lost Shores crap)

- Faster and faster re-spawns, that make solo impossible, my character can no longer even recharge skills between re-spawns in places due to character nerfs.

As long as I can complete all of the maps and ability to get all crafting material solo, I’d be a happy camper but sadly, it seems that this is no longer the case.

How about

- Solo monthly achievements?
- Re-spawn times and numbers based on the number of players in an area (Solo friendly).
- Make all maps Solo friendly.

First of all, you can solo most of the game. Yes, the Orr regions are a pain in the butt. You can’t even stand around in an outpost and read a map without getting attacked. That’s a nuisance. It would be nice to have a couple of safe spots.

You can solo almost all the zones. The only one that gave me serious trouble was the Cursed Shore, but I’m sure there are people who have soloed that zone. However, you only need to get one person to help you get through, so it’s not much of a problem.

You do die a lot in the Orr zones, though, if you go out solo, especially if you’re still leveling and don’t have exotic gear. This is a bit upsetting, particularly if you come from other MMOs where outposts and roads are safezones, and you can solo pretty much anything outside a dungeon.

I think the issue is really one of what you’re used to. Guild Wars 2 isn’t brutally hard, but it’s not exactly easy either and, yes, some things like the fast respawns and lack of safe spots are a bit aggravating. (BTW, Frostgorge, another 70-80 zone, is totally different.)

The final stage of the story, Kill Zhaitan, requires you to group up. I agree with you here: I think they should’ve made the storyline completely soloable. There are a few problems with killing Zhaitan, problems that seem to be getting worse as the game ages:

1) You need a large group of people to clear the chain events to get into Arah.
2) It’s bugged a lot.
3) People don’t want to run Arah story after they’ve done it, so it’s getting harder to find a group. A good guild will help with this, but not always. Just depends on the people.
4) More people are running fractals, so there are fewer people to run the events to clear the way or to help you run Arah story.
5) The daily karma jugs have made karma easy to get, so people don’t run events as much, sucking away more players from Arah events and events everywhere.

Monthly achievements have had soloable elements in the past. For instance, the first month had a requirement to salvage X number of items.

I think it’s a good idea for ArenaNet to encourage people to do WvW or run dungeons and fractals, so I’m okay with this as a monthly requirement. However, the monthly last month was to run 7 fractals – been there, done that. Having it as the requirement, again, this month is redundant.

Having said that, I think a monthly with strictly soloable achievements would be a nice way to mix things up. Maybe you have kill X number of sharks, salvage 25 rares or stuff like that.

I played for like 2 hours and had to leave. I got nothing. Someone I know told me he fought for 30 minutes, then went afk for the rest of the event and came back to loot the chest. Isn’t that nice?

This was such a bad idea. Everyone who could commit to 4 hours at a specific time gets some awesome loot, but everyone else is screwed. That sucks. I have 4 hours, tonight, so why not have the event then when it would be easier for me and screw the people who can’t make it (Sarcasm. Don’t flame.). You see the point?

Plus giving precursors was a really bad idea. If you’re going to drop loot like that and the 20-slot bags, everyone is going to expect a shot at it.

Such a horrendous event. Very, very disappointed.

But I personally don’t hang out in bot zones because their insect-like behavior drives me nuts.

So you just hang out in LA and the cities??

Bots are everywhere, Gaile. They’re particular bad in the Cursed Shores, but I’ve seen bots running in just about every zone of the game.

You’re essentially saying you don’t play in the Cursed Shores, at all. You can’t go anywhere in the Cursed Shores without at least a half dozen bots running around.

I’m pretty sure she was just giving her personal opinion on the matter. I don’t think it’s a part of her job to ban accounts, just give us support and information after something happens. No need to flame her

Not flaming her and sorry if it sounds like that. But saying she personally doesn’t hang out in bot zones isn’t helpful. A lot of us feel we’ve been caught up in this ban, simply because we’re in the same zone as bots.

She also mentioned that she doesn’t accept random group invites. I happen to think it’s sociable – kinda the point of MMOs – to accept group invites.

The point is I’m not playing this game thinking I should alter my behavior and gameplay because it might get me flagged as a bot. But guess what? If I do get reinstated, I’ll probably stay away from the Cursed Shores except to run Arah and I’ll be more cautious about accepting group invites.

  • Don’t post here repeatedly, or heatedly, or as a call to get everyone to pick up their great swords and make this a crusade. If your posts consist of the same repeated complaints, you are putting your forum privileges at risk. This sort of commentary contributes nothing to our ability to help players or to correct any issues related to false positives and we truly want to help!

Hi, Gaile.

I’m received two infractions so far since this has started.

One was for starting a new thread, which I didn’t realize would be a problem. I had just received my ban and I believe it was the first post I made or the second after my first post was moved. I forget.

The intent was certainly not to bombard this forum with posts on the same topic. Once I figured it out, I started posting to this thread.

The second was for saying “Lucky you. I’m over 24 hours now and not a boo from support.” Okay, the tone is a little snarky, but I would think that’s forgivable given the circumstances. It actually does provide useful information to the community about the status of my ticket. 121107-000186

We’re all understandably upset about this. No, I’m not a bot. I’ve never botted. I’ve never gone afk for extended periods of time nor used a 3rd party program. In fact, memory usage is so important to me when I play, I pretty much shut down everything except system processes and security stuff. I play a thief, a mesmer and a necro. Not exactly botting classes of choice. I use dyes. I’ve bought a lot gems, etc.

There’s a long list of evidence for why I’m not a bot, but I’ve been caught up in this dragnet, most likely because I spend time farming at the Cursed Shores which is jammed full of bots, probably outnumbering the real players.

But here’s my concern. Let’s assume I’m innocent until proven guilty (You know, like most civilized societies.) and most of the people in this forum are suffering a similar fate. Shouldn’t you and all the forum moderators try to be extra tolerant? If we want to post a few extra times, what harm does that do to you and the community?

If you start passing out infractions because you don’t like the things some people are saying, you’re going to shut down the only outlet most of these people have. At least, here in this forum we feel like we have a little bit of a voice. Take that away and we’re going to feel gagged and chained.

I have 2 infractions, now, and if you look back over my posts you’ll see they haven’t been especially bad. Mostly just saying how long it’s been, plus one sarcastic post about why I’m not a bot. One was even a mea culpa.

But now I’m concerned I’m heading for a ban from the forums, too. Maybe this post will get me there.

Is this really how you want to handle a little outrage from the community over what is clearly a serious problem?

One final word, a suggestion on how I think ArenaNet should be handling this problem. You’re better off doing what you can to let all legitimate players back in the game, even if there’s some doubt. If that means a few botters get back in, so be it. You can get the botters later.

If you ban a legitimate player, they’re gone. The botters will be back next week, if not already.

My apologies if this is already your intent and I hope you let this post stand.

But only a handful, a small number, are terminated in error.

One is one too many :/

GW2 is an amazing game and I would like to keep playing it.

Obviously one is one too many, but this is a human process and in any process there will be the occasional error. If you demand perfection, you will never find it. If you expect excellence, you’ll find it in Guild Wars 2, from the game to our commitment to serving our players.

so all this mess is due to poor logs reading?

What? Where did you get that idea? Thousands of bots are terminated a day. A few — a very few — are errors, and we deal with them as quickly and as fairly as possible.

The delay in a official response makes it worse

As I have said, most of these are dealt with within hours. I don’t know how quickly you’d expect them to be addressed, but reinstatements due to error are a priority and will be handled as quickly as possible, as fairly, and as thoroughly as possible.

Well, I’m at the 24 hour mark and still no response.

(Warning: In case it’s not obvious – like me not being a bot – the following post is intended as sarcasm.)

5 ways to tell I’m an obvious bot.

1. My level 80s are the best botting classes – thief and mesmer.
See how clever this is? All those obvious bots are rangers and warriors. ANet would never suspect a thief or mesmer class. You’d think they’d die too easily as bots, wouldn’t you? To keep from dying, you might think someone would almost always have to be playing those two classes, right? I’m so clever.

2. I like pretty colors.
That’s my mesmer in the the link, below. I figured if I used some valuable dyes instead of selling them, it would act like I’m-not-a-bot camouflage. I even went to the trouble of getting Hall of Monument rewards in Guild Wars so I’d look less like the obvious bot I am.

Who would ever suspect a purple mesmer as a bot? Fooled you all, didn’t I?

3. I spend about 20% of my valuable botting time in WvW and PvP.
I’m a Deer in PvP and I have more than 200 Badges of Honor. Some day that glory and those badges are going to be worth something and all those other bots are going to be sorry they didn’t spend their valuable botting time in WvW or PvP. Yeps, they’re going to be extra sorry.

4. I do dailies.
This is another area where my other botting compadres have it all wrong. Those karma jugs are going to be worth big money someday. So what if they’re account bound?

I’m saving those mystic coins, too. Maybe they’re worth something on the BLTC, but I have every one I’ve ever earned – over 100, now. They’re going to be worth the big bucks someday. You just wait and see.

5. I make sure it looks like my character gets bored.
I might do the events at Penitent Way, but you know what my obvious, super-clever bot program does? It gets bored standing around and waiting for the event there to go off, again. It runs off to gather or it starts the event with the Gorillas and the scientist. Or it spends silver tping around trying to find another event (Maybe Arah is up?) or maybe goes off to look for the orichalcum nodes.

Do you see how super-genius-Wiley-coyote-clever that is? No one would suspect a character who doesn’t stay in one place too long as being a bot. But those clever people at ArenaNet caught me. I guess I wasn’t clever enough.

Do people in charge not check players accounts before they are banned or is it just an automatic ban what they use ?

Looking at the posts here, I’d say, no, they don’t check. Based on the fact WvWers are getting banned, I also suspect the algorithm for detecting botters is simply this: X reports = banhammer. Since I never see bots in WvW – What would be the point? – WvWers are probably getting reported by the opposing team. Get enough reports and you’re a bot, I guess.

It seems to me the simplest, best way to detect botters is to play the game for 10 minutes, but I don’t think ANet does this. If you’re down in the Cursed Shores, it’s pretty obvious who the botters are. FYI, if hordes of rangers with bears and ugly armor are running back and forth along the same narrow route – just long enough for respawns to start – it’s likely they’re botters. Oh, and if they’re doing this for 18 hours, you can be sure they’re bots.

Maybe ANet could focus on getting rid of those obvious ones, first, before casting their bot net wide. Nyah. I guess not.

I see my posts for a new thread are getting deleted, so I just wanted to add to this thread.

I’ve been banned for botting, too. I do farm from time to time, but i’m active in all phases of the game and I’ve never botted.

I’ve submitted my ticket and I updated it with the information that was requested for all tickets after reading another post about submitting tickets.

I don’t want to give the wrong impression. I probably spend maybe 10% of my time in the game farming. The rest of the time I’m crafting, doing dungeons, WvW, etc. I farm because I need money or mats for stuff I want to craft. I believe this is a common problem for anyone who crafts or needs money.

I have a couple of questions, though, if someone would from ArenaNet would be kind enough to answer them. I did notice support has been stopping in on this thread, occasionally, and that’s great.

First, presuming I get reinstated and the reason I was reported was because I farm, sometimes, how is anyone playing in GW2 suppose to avoid being reported as a botter when they’re farming legitimately? I don’t play a hunter with a bear and bad armor, and I don’t have a jumble name, so what else should I do? That’s actually a serious question.

Second, why can’t ArenaNet get rid of the bots?

Sure it happens in other games, but bots always seem rampant in NCSoft games. They aren’t this bad in SWTOR, TSW or WoW. Just about everywhere I go there dozens of bots running around. Will GW2 turn into Aion where bots in many area frequently outnumber players?

Anyway, thank for any response and I hope to be reinstated.

Wow, nice.

We’re caught unfairly in some sort of dragnet and we have to wait 24-48. Was everyone who played near a bot at some time banned? Won’t have many real players left in the game if you keep doing this.

Hi, my account was banned for botting. Sorry to repost a popular issue, but I’ve never, ever botted. Wouldn’t even know how.

I’ve submitted a ticket, but this seems to be a popular issue, atm, so I’m posting, too.

My account’s been banned for botting. I never, ever botted. If you look at my activity, you’ll see I gathered and farmed. Unfortunately, I gathered and farmed in the Cursed Shores and I’m sure I got pinged as a bot by someone because they couldn’t tell the difference. I would’ve thought it was obvious I wasn’t a bot, since I farmed and gathered and did events, but I guess not.

There are so many bots in that area, there’s no way to tell the real players from the bots. Or rather, there’s no way to keep the real players from being reported as bots if they’re nearby. I never, ever botted, but my account is now banned for it.

I’d really like it if you can fix this. Yes, I’ve created a ticket.

Plus, I’d really like it if you can tell me how I can avoid this in the future. It’s almost impossible to avoid bots in the Cursed Shores. Should I not farm there?

Yep. Just think calling it “projected profits” is a little misleading that’s all. Anyway, minor point. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.

If I list something for 1 gold, the “projected profit” will be 90s. That’s because the TC takes 10% of the sale, but they also charge 5% of the price to list an item. Strictly speaking my projected profit is really 85s for a 1g item.

Hate to be a stickler, but when you’re calculating costs it’s an issue.

A lot of things are fun. Your PvP activities compete with them.
Flicking rubber bands into a bowl can be fun. I’m probably not going to be doing a lot of it any time soon while I have triple A videogames on my PC. Likewise, I’m not going to play your casual PvP activities “for the heck of it” unless either (a) they are competitive with my other PvP options (such as League of Legends), or (b) I am invested in your brand.

Brand investment
I will play your PvP over its competitors if I am invested. I am invested if either (a) my friends are playing it, and I can play with them socially, or (b) it provides a reward which I value which you are uniquely able to deliver as the custodians of the Guild Wars 2 brand, which may be the satisfaction of seeing interesting Guild Wars content, or just some titles or loot for my GW2 character.

Unique content
You can make casual PvP attractive by adding unique content – that is, by making it something you’ll want to see. WvW has a little bit of that flavour – watching a castle get sieged is pretty epic and is eye candy as well as fun. But on the whole this takes work and development time, so is probably not a great option. The Halloween PvP was, while not ugly, nevertheless visually bland and there were not a lot of memorable moments coming out of it.

Rewards
An achievement per se is not a strong reward. All it gives you are points. You can also get points from dailies; these are interchangeable. You can’t do anything with points and you can only show them off to guild members, as far as I know.

A title is slightly better. It at least allows you to demonstrate what you’ve done to others. However currently titles are underwhelming at best, printed in tiny text, without displaying how you got them, and only shown at all after someone has deliberately clicked on you.

Cosmetic armour, unlockable emotes, and unlockable miniatures are better still. They are push-advertising of your prowess, in that the choice of whether someone sees them is in your hands, not the viewer’s.

Rewards as Unique to the Activity
Trick or Treat bags were a terrible reward for PvP because you could get them from other places. That prompted the obvious question, what is the most efficient way to obtain these items? PvP was among the least efficient ways, as it turned out. Players wouldn’t be playing PvP for bags unless they were ignorant of the better way, so effectively there was no reward-related reason to play the Halloween PvP. Rewards for an activity need to be unique to that activity, or else it will be competing with the other way of getting that reward.

Rewards as Unlocks
Probably the most important thing is that rewards should be unlocks, not items. Items require you to store them in your bank. For an average reward, being forced to store it can turn it into a punishment. A much better system is to treat rewards as unlocks, accessible either from a menu (like titles) or from a special vendor (like Hall of Monuments stuff), allowing you to obtain an instance of the reward for free on any character at any time, without having to manage the storage of it.

Rewards as Conversation
The other key thing you need to work on for ANY reward is to make it part of a player’s conversation with other players. The easiest way to do this – and I can’t believe you haven’t already – is to announce achievements in either or both of guild chat and local chat. E.g., it shows up in Guild Chat, “John Smith completed the November Monthly Achievement!” It prompts chat about the achievement, promotes envy from those who don’t have it, and increases the desirability of achievements as a whole.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Best post I’ve read all week.

Second that. An extremely good post.

Glory is for competitive PVP. It’s purpose is to create prestige for people who are good at killing other players on a level playing field. Activities, on the other hand, are a grab bag of mini-games that shake up the gameplay for a bit. Yes, it’s—**gasp** —fun. The fact that the glory bar is even displayed is just a side effect of us leveraging our awesome competitive PVP framework to host them. (It is really cool by the way. For example, did you know that you play activities with players from other worlds?)

But now that we’ve got that straight, I’m super interested in learning what you guys think you should be getting out of activities. Trick or treat bags were sort of a trial, but I think it worked out pretty well so we may do similar things in the future. Keg brawl doesn’t have anything like that, but it does have achievements. Would that compel you to play? Something else?

Thanks for your time!

Wow. I didn’t expect this post to turn into this long discussion.

It’s great that so many people are doing something just for the fun of it, but let me ask my original question in a different, maybe less controversial way.

Why should PvP and PvPers be treated like crap? Oops. That might be controversial. Let me rephrase. Why should PvP not yield rewards at least equivalent to other activities?

Every other activity during the Halloween event yielded some pretty sweet rewards: Explorers got a scavenger hunt and a nice back piece; platformers got the clock tower and exotics; and PvEers got lots of cool rewards, including exotics, karma and gold. PvPers got the equivalent of a Charlie Brown rock. Why?

@AnthonyOrdon.3926 Now, all that said, glory is not a gauge of your ability to kill “other players on a level playing field”; it is simply a reflection of how often you PvP. It’s much more a measure of how much time you spend in sPvP.

You get it for all sorts of activities in sPvP, not just killing other players. To GW2’s credit, it’s a much better measure than pretty much any other MMO, but the fact remains it’s less a measure of how good you are and more a measure of how often you play sPvP.

i did them all except for tower. i tried, but couldn’t do it. That’s okay, though. I kinda like that they have something not everyone can ezmode through.

But maybe they could put it in the game where there’s more time to work on it and try to beat it. And maybe it could be something else besides a jumping challenge. : )

Really? I don’t remember getting them. Maybe it was such a paltry reward for the time spent it didn’t make an impact on me.

I couldn’t do it. Tried about 12 times. Not that much.

I think it’s a good idea to have something like this in the game, though. It’s good to have things that not everyone can do. If I want to be able to beat everything, there are plenty of mmos like that out there.

I thought Reaper’s Rumble and Lunatic Inquisition were fun, but what was the point? I only did them a few times because they didn’t even reward glory.

Since the Halloween event only lasted so long, I ended up spending my time on the other parts of the game that gave Halloween loot. PvP for it’s own sake and fun is fine, but not if an event is going away, soon.

Unless I missed something, this seemed to be a huge failing of the event . Both these matches were fun, imo, and could have been a huge hit if people had more reason to do them.

Why didn’t these parts of the event give rewards? Why didn’t they give glory? Even something like candy corn, ToT bags and the occasional cool item would’ve made them more popular.
