Sure the altar can be destroyed by lightning, but Yaks can’t grab it from outside 2 fortified walls, disappear from teh map and magically put it into DB.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
How close is your altar? They just hacked it again, but we snagged it before the fly hacker could grab it.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
And there it goes again.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Well, we tried convincing the orb carrier to drop it off at EH or drop it, but alas, not everyone agreed. We tried.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
We didn’t do this one. We weren’t sure till a minute ago. Yak’s Bend has hacked 2 in the last 30 minutes.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
We will not contest SoR retaking the orb in the north. Any intel on what exactly happened to reset it?
EDIT: Never mind, the orb just magically appeared in DB controlled by Yak’s bend. Pure kittening Magic.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Indeed. Best of luck to both servers in the future!
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
With Spiderpally, Sniffycube, Fubuki and many other fantastic leaders on Kaineng we are having fun in W3. When we take an objective, its time for high-fives and a little dancing..we know a storm of hurt will be coming our way soon enough!
You’re sig cracks me up!
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
@ Kiviar Agreed. But my point about flying off the handle and overtly accusing him of being a liar still stands.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Asking for the data is one thing, and I would love to see it.
I would also like to see that. However the skeptic in me expects that it does not show anything to the scale that Colin is alluding to. If there were really an exodus from the high pop servers to low pop ones this week’s match in the bottom six would have gone differently.
Furthermore what is classified as a winning server? A server which is currently number one in score or a server which won its match last week? You could possibly have a situation if it is the latter where a server won in a lower tier and met a server which lost in a higher one, the resulting migration between lower ranked ‘winning’ server and higher ranked ‘losing’ server would match his claim but be constant with the general theory of constant upward migration.
Finally, is it just me or is it surprising and disconcerting that Colin misspelled queue twice in his post? Or is that just some strange American spelling?
My interpretation of “winning” is “successful.” ET might come in 3rd place every other week, but its a very successful server. His direct data is in relation to queue times which he associated with “winning” and “losing.”
Edit: After some additional thought, high que times would also correlate with short term success as people like to participate in a winning effort. I guess further clarification could be used here.
Also, Americans hardly ever use the word “queue” outside of the MMO world. It is a british and possibly canadian word that has slowly started to bleed over into the US via the internet. I probably would have mispelled it as well.

@Beld Thanks for the clarification. No, I was not responding out of fanboi impulse. I responded to that not because I disagreed with the point you made. I repsonded due to the “logical fallacies” comment. I subscribe to the “skeptical” world view and when people start throwing phrases like “logical fallacies” I usually expect there to be clear evidence brought forth by that person. In the context of JUST that one post, I had nearly no idea what you were trying to say. Also, the evidence brought forth was anecdotal. Your situation and Colin’s data may very well both be true and your experience is in the minority set of data. To straight up call him a liar and jump off the deep end into conspiracy theories is not justified.
Asking for the data is one thing, and I would love to see it.
Edit: As a side note, does the bottom tool bar of each post kinda work on and off for others too? Sometimes I can quote, other times I can’t.

I can’t speak for all, but any of my advice has come from a position of trying to be a good sport and also trying to spur some good fights… Not from pity.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Tyrshar, in a way it is scaled, just not adjustable. Its not scaled to the amount of opponents in the area because that would be unfair to opponents. A supply camp is not a military point, its loggin, farming, etc. The amount of force brought to capture it has to come out of the personel budget of the attackers. The amount of defenders needed to defend a farm from an invading army should be roughly the same as the opposition. The point of guards is to prevent free caps. Guards, also provide an opportunity for upgrades to the point. This is investing supply and silver instead of manpower.
If you make them scale to opposition you change the dynamic of resource budgeting. All of a sudden camps become bunkers. 5 People shouldn’t be able to defend a supply camp against 30.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Well yes, but common sense does. Guilds aren’t sending more than 1 or 2. We can probalby assume that most of the higher tier servers are doing it and for the most part negating the others. Its cheap and unsportsmanlike, but I don’t think we’ll see that traffic stand out in the collected data of all transfers.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Massage to AR and BP
Also, where’s mine?
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Yeah, last night was great fun. Keep it up. Win or lose, with an effort like that you’re bound to have fun. Fun will keep your population playing.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
The last data I saw had an overwhelming majority of transfers from servers with long queu times (generally from winning servers), to servers with short queu times (generally to losing servers). There are some people going to the winning servers, but the simple truth is the vast majority are not.
This is consistent with the theory that players in overpopulated servers are switching to servers against whom they are currently matched to spy on and sabotage them.
The number of accounts transfering to spy would be statistically negligible in this data set. I’m not saying its not happening, it definitely is. This data wouldn’t support that necessarily though.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
NSP isn’t jumping a tier. According to this we’d be advancing 2 spots in the total rankings putting us in the middle of the next tier. Nothing was skipped.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
This is a specious response… at best. “generally from winning servers”. The real information we want is not how individual people transfering are, but filtering out the noise to find the signal. One only has to look at the Blackgate performance 2 days ago versus yesterday to realize that it is not about where the majority of people are transferring to and whether those servers are “winning”, but the number of wvw battles that are being impacted by blocks of people who play certain times transferring together. Blackgate wasn’t a “winning” server when the mass transfers happened. So yes… I am sure you aren’t lying about the statistic. But they are winning now by a large margin and THAT is the issue. Thank you for pretending not to see it.
I know it is common for developers and their forum mouthpieces to think their users are too stupid to notice logical fallacies in arguments… but this one is pretty glaring. To even attempt to make the argument that free transfers aren’t going to impact the top tier or 3 wvw battles is to completely ignore some pretty obvious evidence to the contrary…. and is sufficiently condescending that I would have stopped paying for this game if you had a monthly fee.
Most of the people I know have already stopped playing.
I’m not familiar with this situation at all. I’d simply like to point out a few things. You blast Colin for logical fallacies while providing nonsensical anecdotal “evidence” for your barely coherent point.
Colin was pointing out that the majority of transfers came off of high que time servers which tend to be winning servers. High que times correlate with wins and/or high tier status. He also pointed out that the destination servers tended to be low que time servers which tend to be losing and/or low tier status servers. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Can stability be turned into a condition by a condi necro?
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Protip: Enemy keep fully upgraded and stocked with 1700 supply? Laugh at their feeble attempt to defend as you walk up to their keep with 10 Omega Siege Golems. Note, this requires friends with deep pockets.
Couple of well placed ballistas will cost you 10g. Yeah, you’ll get to inner most likely, but anyone worth a kitten will have that better defended than outer.
There are MUCH cheaper means of getting to the inner. Like Trebbing from a defendable location.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Too bad, we’ve got some SOLID pvp tonight. Too bad you’re missing it.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
And I’m still wondering how we were ranking higher then them!
It is because of the crazy flux in population and structure that NSP has gone through. When rankings first came out NSP was tier 1 and 2, then the mass exodus due to TL drama. So we had almost no one playing even during primetime for a good 2 weeks. Angry Army transfered in and the remaining guilds restructured and got our kittens together and now we are trying to turn it around.
I hardly see AA in WvW, and when I do, they are single players, never running in a group.
I was wondering earlier….is the Angry Army Militia the overflow guild for the not so good players? I spank them 2v1 regularly with a 3 orb deficit.
This.
I have nothing against AA, but saying they’re the reason we’re doing better is incorrect.
I’ve had nothing but good experiences with AA or any affiliates. I was referring mostly to numbers. We were low pop for a couple weeks and really struggling for representation on the battle feild. AA seems to be on all hours of the night (at least until I fall asleep) so the night presence always is nice.
Also, I take little stock in the 1vX open feild fights. Yes they have their place, but WvW effectiveness is about being in the right places at the right time and doing the right thing. How many players you can fight at a time doesn’t affect the map nearly as much. Keep in mind alot of objective minded players have WvW specific specs for mobility, wall aoe coverage, etc. Not everyone is setup for close quarters combat.

Mid tier might be expecting a bit much. Currently we are in tier 7 of 8. I’d expect to be tier 6 next week. Maybe tier 5, but I hope not. Lets get their slowly and adjust as needed.

Protip: matches are won and lost via supply
This is so true. Oh, you’ve let your opponent fully upgrade the keep and stock 1700 supply. Yeah, you’ll totally take that one over in 15 minutes. Even when not on the offensive you need to harrass your enemies supplies.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
How is there no mention of Condemned quitting on this thread yet?
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
EVERYTIME I upgraded a camp, I would turn around and see a zerg of AR coming to take my precious supplies. I wasted alot of silver last night, lol.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Honestly, last night on BP BL was some of the most fun myself and the guys I play with have had in a good while. We were running here and there trying to put out fires on all corners of the map. EH, then DB, then BL, then we assaulted garrison, got it barely just as we were notified of server maintenance. Oh but we lost both BL and GB in the process! Good times. Keep it up!
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Late night bump for new members!
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Other crap aside, we had some great battles tonight on BP BL. Hopefully we get one more night of it before Friday! Cheers.

So we’ve heard, Rusty, lol.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
I look forward to losing, honestly.

On every reset I push TFO to take and hold keeps. Hell after this last matchmaking TFO put 30g into holding our side of the map, just to lose everything at 3am. Everyday we try to push NSP and after getting owned by BEEFY towers and Keeps (upgrading overnight)…
I know we take a lot over night, but to be fair, we had Etheron Hills and Dreaming bay upgraded to waypoints by midnight on Friday. We do a good job of protecting supply lines and prioritizing upgrades.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Having fun fighting TFO right now on NSP map. Bring it!
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
We get it, we have a bad apple or two. We’re looking for it. Now quit grouping us all in with the cheater. Getting really old.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Looking for new faces for the upcoming match!!
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Yeah, we break zergs by suddenly jumping off the wall (into sight) and group sprinting to the back or past them. Chaos insues. You don’t need a mesmer portal. Infact a portal renders quickly and can draw attention to itself, all you need to do is aoe the hell out of it and you’ve just crushed your enemies.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Change your guild tag, Wind!
Also, I love how the BP map has evolved into a game of trebuchet chess during prime time. Great learning process! Both servers will benefit in the long run from the placement studies.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
simple fix for mesmers: give it a cast timer or make it channeled.

Is it that hard to see the big pink portal on the ground and drop all aoes on top and kill 30 people in 15 seconds as they get adjusted to the new surroundings? I’ve seen this done many many times. All it takes is one person in TS yell out that theres a portal, every turns and blows the hell out of the self-imposed choke point.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
I absolutely love WvW. My favorite aspect of the game. I don’t pay attention to the score. The score has no bearing on my ability to capture or defend a point.
The only thing that matters is the next objective. Whether that’s building up defenses or helping a supply run or taking down a keep, that’s the only thing that matters.
Besides, what does “winning” really mean in this context? Your server score is relative. If one server is rated at 100 and another is rated at 10 does it mean the higher rated server is more fun? Not in the slightest. The server rated at 100 may go to a bracket where they are hopelessly outclassed for a week and the lower rated server may goto a bracket where they are far more competitive. It’s all relative.
My advice for the average player is to stop looking at the score and have some fun. There’s alot to be had out there when you band together and fight!
This exactly. Our server is a 24/7 server and we are currently playing against 2 primetime only servers. The winning part is not the fun part. The competition is where its at. If people ignore the score and focus more on the “how dare they own that tower, that belongs to US!” aspect of the game, then you can have some fun. The score is a tool that will eventually even out the playtimes and seriousness of the servers so that everyon can have fun. Don’t stress out about the score as much, just play and have fun.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
I love it. I keep trying to pry myself away from it to level my alts, but then I just get sucked into it on my alts and spending my entire night in it every night. We are winning lately, but I look forward to the match we start getting beat. The hard situations are the most fun. Having to use the guild/group hivemind to problem solve in real time with real consequences. I LOVE it.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
I really like the idea of communal upgrades. Our server has sort of evolved to this by de facto. When its time to upgrade the 1.5g keep fortification, I usually just announce that I am dropping 1.5g for the good of the server and ask for at will donations. I usually get a good portion of it back. People are always willing to donate for waypoints. If it were communal you could even add achievement incentives for lifetime donation towards upgrades or the like.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
Let us remove player movements as well! Also fun.
AKA: Darkshines, Schroedingers Mesmer
I watched this vid last night. Some good information in here, especially the first 10 minutes. This basically outlined my entire reason for rolling a necro. Sheer wall domination and cover fire for offensive seiges = win. If you want to wreck people 1v1 then go to sPvP. WvW is a different game.
