Although I don’t enjoy the ideal of adding mounts to GW2 for transportation a meta-game of it could be fun. Like the keg brawl. Though I disliked the way mounted combat was implemented in WoW, if that was your way of thinking, it didn’t seem to flow well….

I actually agree with Ronah. An actual functioning community doesn’t seem to exist outside of map chatting which seems to be heavily plagued by trolling at various occasions. Dungeon groups are usually quiet unless someone did something wrong, then xx person is kitten at yy person. It’s a major annoyance. ALTHOUGH, I hesitate to blame GW2 wholly because I think it’s the MMO community in general that’s been corrupted and headed downhill. I do think that there isn’t enough GROUP content. Everything seems to be a Zerg. DEs are laughable zergs that don’t require any communication at all, in most situations. Wvwvw was a cool ideal but it too suffers from zergers. Spvp same thing. At this point I don’t see what titles matter or not because not many, if any at all, actually takes the time to see a title and strike up a convo.

I agree, part of this can be attributed to poor planning. But it’s how the leveling of it went. Sometimes you just need to mass produce to get that next level in order to make something else easier and better.

I’m using 20-20-0-0-30 to great success. Zerker gear with power/Vit/toughness(or cond) for jewelry. GS main with Sword/pistol for melee/ranged harassment. I also use this in spvp to great effect. You’re still killable, but you’ll take down your fair share of enemies before you succumb. The trait that allows you to shatter yourself is crucial for dps/tagging and functions swimmingly for survival.

Choam, I see your point. But why not enable this for cooking? The other crafting abilities do not produce intermediates en masse the way cooking does. I’m not asking that all crafted food and what not be storable, just the items that don’t have an “on use” that WILL be used again and again. Example dough balls.

LFD would kill community in GW2? I’m sorry. I guess I am playing a different game because GW2 lacks any sort of community outside of regular map chat. Stop being closed-minded. GW2 is quite a great game but many people are still viewing it through rose-colored glasses, it’s still far from perfect. What is upsetting is that when someone points out areas that need work/polishing/function in GW2 there are those that exclaim that person needs to “go back to wow”. So silly.

It terrible seeing developers trying to balance heavily bugged classes that aren’t working properly. I could even stomach more warrior supremacy while devs fix bugs in order to get an ACCURATE standing of where the class is at. Makes me start to wonder if they’re trying to balance with their eyes closed.

Also, is pve supposed to be balanced around warriors or what because I gotta say playing a warrior is a cake walk compared to other classes. Or is warrior the toon to roll if you want to play and watch tv at the same time?

That’s exactly my point. Intermediate cooking mats remain useful for a majority of recipes on the way to 400 and even then still useful.

@Choam
Why would you be ok with punishing people for taking cooking? Why should a cook be forced to pay more in order to level? It doesn’t make sense in the slightest. Cooking is already more taxing due to the amount of discovery and the way to discover. And as far as other crafted intermediates go, I’d like to see those as depositable too but they’re easily discardable after you’re out of that tier of xx profession, so they’re not really a hindrance one way or another.

First a question. Am I doing something wrong? Cook takes up a vast amount of bag/bank space. Why does it not get sent to the “mat vault” like leather/cloth/ore/etc? I ended up buying more bank space in order to keep up with the crafted mats. I’m not talking about the cooked-useable items just the cooked mats that allow you to use it as a mat later on. Seems like its not intended.

Elementalist is kitten, in theory. Terrible in use. As a class we lack definition. Most would say support whereas “support” is an OPTION for the other classes. Not to harp and bully warriors, but the have extremely efficient choices. They can go tank/bunker, dps, support(outstanding ae supporters) and moderate ae heals, all excelling at their chosen line. Ele’s don’t get that choice. We get terrible survival, less than mediocre dps, and trait/utility choices that feel like the aftermath of a garbage disposal. Sure we can trait for better survival but what does that do? It puts in line with base survival of what other classes get when traited for damage/support. This decreases our already lower than adequate damage.

The traits don’t “jive”. It looks, quite obviously, like a perfect example of too many chefs in the kitchen. It seems like everyone wanted to take this class in a different direction per trait line. Read fire- seems like specializing in fire for dmg is the way to go, but wait read the rest and they don’t support that specialization. Read air- lolwut? Wtf is air supposed to even be?! Dmg or control because most of that looks like junk that was left over. Earth- a bit of middle ground of dmg vs utility but still seems quite mixed up. Water- functions smoothly enough. Arcane- hey! One that works well! Why do you think most eles go 20-30 arcane? I just want to emphasize that reading fire it seemed like they wanted eles to function similar to gw1 ele in which you could pick an element and stay with it. In a perfect world you’d be able to trait for either staying with an element OR attunement dancing to pick and choose from a larger pool of abilities. So your choice would be either specialize or jackofalltrades. To me it looks as though one individual had elementalist as a project, something happened so another individual picked it up and finished it his way without go over the first guys work….

I’m one of those players that misses raids(from multiple other MMOs(let’s not be closed minded)) so when I was approaching 80 I felt let down and that the game would be quickly over as the mission would be done and for years of raiding it was all about the next story/boss to beat. Gear was a non-issue for me since it came along, occasionally, whilst having fun with a set group of friends in a difficult instanced setting. So I completely understand where OP is coming from. Alas, I value your positive outlook on the subject and will try to adopt something similar for myself to keep me interested during my times to come. Thanks for sharing.

Ride the lightening. Burning speed. Fire grab. Long as sin cast on e5, if your target is still in the area while you are quite obviously are casting this animation he deserves instant death. Drake breath being clunky, cast bar in melee on a class that is dependent on dodges when they’re available. Lightning seems like a damage/control attunement that lacks damage. (I see fire as aoe/dot and air as single target/direct dmg.)

Ele is fun as hell. But. It feels like an unfinished class.

Need advice on general ele play

Rafe Mathews.2308

I love, LOVE, ele play style. However, I feel it’s either too squishy or puts out too little damage. I’d like to see a light-modest buff to either survival or damage potential.

DD is my play style and if I bring in 2-3+ mobs and come out with a dodge available I did something wrong. I most stay in fire, occasionally engage in air for rtl/shield/weakness then into fire. My ohkitten is popping into water for heals and a breath then into earth stacking bleeds and knockdown back into fire to finish the kite (burning and fields). I’ve tried 20-0-10-10-30 in spvp to great success utilizing the shields in earth and arcane, but I still feel like I’m made of kerosene soaked toilet paper compared to the damage I sacrifice in order to compete. I just think something should be buffed, dmg or survivability. Pve is also quite a kitten if you pull a veteran+x as they often have an immobilize and can sufficiently lock you down and since you can’t take more than 2 hits (usually) the fights are over fast. Downed state just sucks.

Now that everyone is realizing how stale pvp is getting...

I see a lot of praise towards GW2 and rightly so in most areas. The game is extraordinary fun in nearly all degrees, HOWEVER, a complete lack of things to do post 80 (endgame) is telling and ANet seemingly attempting to balance classes to spvp and tournaments is also telling. (Without separating pvp/e content like it was previously, makes pve wrongly “taxed”) especially eye opening that they attempting to balance prior to fixing a majority of often class/weapon breaking bugs…. Thus MY issue with the game, or rather development team. Why are they nerfing classes that may be inappropriately strong due to bugs or other classes are inappropriately weak due to gaping bugs in traits/weapon abilities/etc? I feel as if pve isn’t looked at fairly but treated as a sideshow. “This game has amazing pvp functions and its getting better all the time. Oh yeah, we have a little pve too, in case you get bored of pvp but that shouldn’t happen!”

Overall, I love the game. But I’m worried about the direction that its going. I’ve played my share of mmos and was onboard for a number of new launches and I’ve noticed that sometimes it’s these issues that, if not repaired quickly and effectively enough, will be taxing for the game’s life-span. Especially attempts to balance when a majority of the classes are numerously bugged, and creating new content on the side. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there can be more than one team employed to work on buggies AND content but the question is there.

What would it take to convince you ele is good?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Rafe Mathews.2308

Rafe Mathews.2308

I think ele could use either a defensive buff or damage but definitely not both, on top of the various bug fixes plaguing all classes. I’m still a noob in spvp but ele and Mesmer make it fun. My Mesmer can go in and throw the gauntlet killing a majority of the opposing team, my ele can prevent death to team members set up fields and provide sufficient damage to help get the job done. They feel totally different in spvp and wvw. I’d like to think of myself as skilled, not the best by far but appropriately skilled. Dd ele is a blast to play IMO. I especially enjoy locking down thieves who are trying to flee.

Aye. Dynamic events are found everywhere. They do absolutely nothing for fostering a community. Raids would. Currently dungeons are the only way to promote community and I feel that dungeons take a back of the bus seat. Raids (for unique skins NOT stats or gear progression) I think would further help to establish a community relationship. Not all events are equal and raids DO NOT equal DEs. Give us 1-2 10man raids with a handful of bosses that are strictly tuned for a 10man content.

I’d like to see more things to do post 80 besides the same crap you can do at pvp 10 (spvp/wvw). While I enjoy spvp and wvw it’s sad to realize that that’s all the game really offers. Raids would also provide a reason to cultivate a community, another thing that this game seems to be severely lacking.

Is Mesmer the worst class in the game for Dungeons?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Rafe Mathews.2308

Rafe Mathews.2308

Just to add a tidbit I’m shocked hasn’t been mentioned much. 10sec aoe haste. This can be invaluable to some groups making up for our occasional lackluster dmg between shatters/building illusions. Also a moa’d mini boss does considerably less dmg often times preventing wipes or aiding in recovery. Mesmers have tools. Useful things that can be applied a variety of different ways. If someone is looking for a face roll type play style I’d urge them to give warriors a shot. I’ve heard that guardians can be facerollable too but I lack any personal experience with that class.

Quick edit:
As far as rangers go, the pets are a huge liability for a dmg role ranger. But get a ranger built and traited for support and there is a world of difference.

To The Dev: Any Plans to make phantasm stay until out of combat

^^

Not to mention during events stay targeted on the mob that will lie the longest. Spawn phantasms that you can, drop aoe field, spawn clones. This will dump dmg and bleeds on main “boss” while stacking confusion and when the life span of phantasms are about up or they’ve fulfilled their key usefulness splode them for more confusion and mass aoe damage tapping everything in range.

Mesmer, IMHO, is a class/profession that is currently in a really good state. Not op but not up either. Still it has its buggies but most can be worked around without much grief.

I haven’t had any issues in situations where I was able to kite. If I was surrounded by mobs or brought in 5+ mobs than intended then it gets hairy. I’ll give sword sword a try and since the second set of weapons is just for swaps while GS is on cd I’ll give focus a shot. Worse comes to worse I may just use a GS/staff combo for max range options and I don’t think anyone can argue staff’s versatility.

Oh don’t get me wrong. Staff is awesome for its abilities and how well it jives with Illusion tree, however I don’t enjoy it nearly as much as the GS. Maybe that will change in the later part of the game, but I don’t think it’s highly likely. I will say that I do think most are correct that the staff is in many ways superior to GS for my build, but I’m maiming mobs with GS to great efficiency many times pulling 3+ mobs and an occasional veteran and mowing them down.

Sword and pistol is the only thing I’m unsure of, does the pistol really work that well or would something else be more effective? Friends said torch or s&s but torches long CDs has me resistant in the regard.

Also my stat weighting will be focused on power while maintaining moderate crit% (35%+/-). The condition dmg from Illusion is just the jelly to my builds peanut butter.

I’ve been thinking s&p is not working so well. At most ill use it for my third set of clones/phantasms by dumping GS clone/phantasm swapping for iduelist replacing first clone and swapping places for #2 dodge out hit with #5 swap back to GS and MW and immediately bring out next full wave of clones/phantasms. Is the torch really that good, the long CDs really put me off. Same with pistol, tbh. I really, really, enjoy the GS and while staff is amazing for conditions/all around I’m not a huge fan of the feel, though I do keep a staff I’m my bags with near regular updates to it.

The process of thinking for me on this build was spawn my 3clones/phantasms let them do their abilities and bleed the mob MW then bring out a refreshed set. After second set F2 for confusion. Start third set, weapon swap for iduelist, continue damage swapping weapon when up MW rinse/repeat. I gravitate towards faster combat which made GS fit naturally. Plus the Asura animations>rest of game.

Wall of text and story inc.

I’ve been playing since just after release. Created multiple toons and leveled most simultaneously. Didn’t really fall in love with any, all had weaknesses and strengths some more appearant on one side or the other. Then I rolled a Mesmer. Got to say it kickskitten I nabbed sword+pistol and have a GS. GS by far and wide my favorite, not sure I enjoy s&p so much. I’m looking for a mostly pve leveling build that’s suitable for wvw, not looking at doing spvp until after I hit 80. I’m hoping for a GS-centric build with a focus on clones and/or mind wracks. My current theory crafted spec is as follows: 20-20-0-0-30. Priority being given to Illusions during leveling with secondary being Dueling for the crits/mobility/bleeds in mostly that order. Majors would be: mental torment/GS training, PFury/DEvasion, PWrack/haste/IP. With MT being substituted with empowered illusions(advice?) and compounding power being a leading competitor.

I just wanted to ask whether or not I was on the right track and I this build would be acceptable for both leveling and endgame play. Any advice is appreciated.

I always keep a staff around because nothing beats its support/heals in group content. But I focus on dagger/dagger and I’m quite good with the finesse of the play style of it. My gear priority is power=condition damage>precision>crit damage. Been thinking of a spec along the lines of 30-0-20-0-20 for damage and survival. As to the lack of crit I realized I don’t need to focus on crits to keep my targets burning utilizing the lower CDs on fire abilities will keep them in flames aplenty.

Is tune-dancing required?

Rafe Mathews.2308

I’m relatively new to gw and newer even still to elementalists. The way that I’ve been playing is:
Pve- dagger/dagger// fire attuned as much and for as long as possible. Focus on putting and keeping the mob(s) burning. Switch to water if low hp becomes an issue, utilizing heals/ slows. Air for control/debuffs and shield. Earth for sustained life while I can swap back to fire putting bleeds on as many mobs as possible until the atunment is possible. I mostly focus on fire, as I said and lament switching to anything else unless its to support team-play/events.
Wvwvw: lolstaff// focus mostly on debuffing opposing team while buffing mine. Heals- lots. Earth for dots. I mainly try to either support zergs or try to sustain walls/doors/groups in water while laying out sustained aoe dmg.
Spvp- no plans, no experience.

I enjoy pve the most on dbl dagger and want to focus heavily on pve/dungeons when at endgame. Does this mindset still work then or will I likely be underperforming due to being focused more heavily on fire damage? I’d rather ask now than make it to 80 and the toon be a waste of everyone’s time.

I’ve been switching on/off what profession I want to main between Ranger, ele, Mesmer, necromancer(to some degree). Just trying to decide the most optimal path for me and asking for advice from the ele community. Thanks.
